Had a lunch next door to J&B on a Saturday afternoon and decided to give them another look. There's a mix of prepared stuff such as chicken breasts, burgers, wings, tri-tips in marinade, and steaks. We ended up picking out two tenderloins, which were great reverse-seared. I did have to trim off a tiny bit of silverskin off the outside of one of the steaks, but that's generally a good sign that they cut the meat in house. There were five folks behind the counter to help get things out of the case, so that was easy and fast. We also got some local-made roasted pork buns in the frozen area made by Dumpling Daughter, which were also a nice treat. Will probably be back. Would recommend this place if you want locally butchered meat. read more

I stopped by today at 10:30 to buy a steak for my 14 year old pup who we are saying goodbye to today, but didn't realize they weren't open until 11am. I saw someone in there and decided to explain the situation a bit and see if they could help me out anyway- they let me in straight away. I can't say enough thank you's for how kind and understanding they were, they are always really nice in here but in this case really went above and beyond for me and my dog. Purchase by the pound: I often get a couple types of steak tips to try or different marinade in chicken to test out before I come back for more. They have prepped stuff to grill like stuffed jalapeño and other tasty sides. I strongly suggest you make this part of your bbq repertoire. read more

Staff was helpful and their selections are great, plus all the food was a hit. I'm looking forward to trying some of their prepared foods and other rubs/marinades. Best butcher shop I've ever been to. Filets, ribeyes, strips, and all other cuts are fresh and perfect for grilling. They have plenty of options and the staff behind the counter are very helpful and will go out of their way to help you. Their marinated steak tips, chicken breasts/tenders, pork are all incredible. Plenty of options. Football season, if you want to be the hero of the "tailgate", pick up some of the caribalo (hope I'm spelling this right) wings. First, the wings are gigantic. Second, the caribalo marinade is the perfect spice for chicken wings. It's got the perfect amount of heat perfect for a chicken wing with a nice smoky flavor to it. This place was not at all what I was expecting, but that was fine with me. This place is not really a butcher shop (at least my idea of what a butcher shop is). They didn't have large hunks of meat, they didn't chop up meat in the store. Instead it was more like an upgraded deli. They had standard deli meats and cheese (and by standard I mean good quality standard. I like Boar's Head meats, and that was their predominant line). They also has marinated chicken and beef in a variety of marinades. They also had fancy chicken breasts rolled up in good combinations. In the freezer section they even had some options for marinated fish that looked good.I wish this place was in Chicago, because I would have tried all of the options! I go here every Sunday during football season and pick up steak tips or chicken tenders. I'm a bit of a stickler for good meats, and for the 3 years I've been coming here, J & B had always been great. They have so many awesome flavors of tips, it's hard to pick just one but the Caribalo tips are my personal favorite. I've had probably almost every flavor of steak and chicken and each is absolutely delicious. The meat and chicken is so tender you don't even really need a knife. I know this sounds ridiculous and exaggerated, but it's honestly true. I host a lot of football parties and literally every time a guest will rave about the steak tips. Small butcher shop that has nearly everything you could want. They have a very friendly staff and they even went out of their way to cut up a few extra cuts of NY Strip because we needed more pieces. You get what you pay for here, but it is going to be more expensive than a regular grocery store. They also have huge arancini. Heated them up that night and they still were great. I can't even count the amount of marinades that they had going for all of their wings and steak tips. We came here to get steaks for father's day and were not disappointed in the least. Some of the best marinates steaks around - teriyaki and carib are my favorite. Also have a fine selection of premium non marinated steaks, chicken sausage, pork sausage, Chinese sausage. Plus single serve stuffed clams which are ok, could use some more clam less stuffing, lobster risotto, rice balls, wrapped asparagus, etc. I haven't tried their pre-marinated/wrap meat yet along with their frozen fish and pasta. My go to butcher shop for steak tips and wings. Location: right in the middle of stoneham center across from mcdonoughs liquor store. Parking on the street or in the lot beside the liquor store. What to get: Tips and wings. Teriyaki tips are mouth watering, caribelo tips (Caribbean/buffalo combo) one of my favorites! Caribelo wings very flavorful and always good. Other items such as sausages good and other flavored meats also tasty. The meats are high grade and I find better quality than the supermarket. My recommendation is to get tips or wings and cook them within 48 hours. Don't freeze them as I find they lose a little flavor. read more

Cari-who? I'm sorry, I'm foaming at the mouth and I can't even tell you the marinade I'm in love with's name right now. You know why I can't though? Cause we're having a love affair and I'm afraid you might interfere. I'm serious, it's that good. I'm not one for pre-marinated meats, I totally enjoy doing it myself so when I was in here one day and saw these chunks of amazingness in a tub, full of visible flavor and although it was not cooked, I wanted to just take a chunk of it like a barbarian to my face. To. My. Face. Kehd. Don't judge, you would too. It's seriously Caribolo or something and I've been there how many times, get the same one and still can't tell you which one it is. Winner, winner, keeps me coming back. They have a lot of other things though, the various chickens they offer look good and although I have yet to venture out of my comfort zone, I will be soon. They've got it all if you want to cook but without the mess because they offer a lot of prepped items, ah man. This has been a pit stop before Stop and Shop but I've noticed different things for when I don't want to go to Stop and Shop. The staff, ah boy; the guy is helpful who is behind the counter that I've been assisted by and they ladies in there are just as cool. It's small, family owned and it has a good vibe. It's bright and clean, right in the center of town. Parking is fine, street or there is a lot next to the fire station, that's never been an issue. To top it off, the market the introduced to Stoneham is new, there hasn't been a butcher shop here, just Stop and Shop (and Shaws, RIP); so to bring this in, although they are really new (April), I can see them being a prefect addition to my town, especially their location. I really think they couldn't have chosen a better spot to be and I am really glad they parked themselves right there because it's helpful for me, verses going to Davis or elsewhere for a selection of meats verses traditional Stop and Shop. read more

I found this place on yelp as there is no butcher shop in the neighboring town of Reading where I live. All I can say is it is worth the short commute over to Stoneham for the quality meats available at J&B. In the few times I've been in it's been steak tips and sausages only so far. Ok, I love this place. It's not very big but the quality of the meats has been fantastic so far. My favorite is the Caribbean Marinated Steak Tips. They have a really good selection of pre-marinated beef, chicken, turkey, pork... you get the picture. The Delmonico steaks are next on my list as well as their Chicken Cordon Blue, Stuffed Scallops, Lobster Risotto and I absolutely have to try the Al Capone Beef Roast. I also like that they sell affordable meat packages that start out at $56 and range up to $185. I have a feeling I'll be on a first name basis with everyone that works there. This butcher shop is small, but it has a nice selection. I have seen many quality brand names here from Davios philly cheesesteak rolls to Boar's Head dry sausage. I tried the dry sausage soppressata and it was great. It is sort of like a salami, but with more fat. But tasty. They also have a nice selection of cheese, including my favorite buffalo cheddar cheese. The buffalo cheese did not disappoint me at all. Most of the things from this section are in the 5,6,7 dollar range. Then there is the section with the freshly cut meats. They have a nice selection of steak tips here amongst other things. If you are looking for appetizers, they do make huge fresh stuffed mushrooms. I found the staff here to be knowledgeable and very helpful. This butcher shop seems like a great place to get a snack or to have an event catered. It is always good when you can find a nice butcher shop outside of the city. It's nice to have a quality local butcher in town. These guys won't replace Stop & Shop as a place to get cold cuts, as they don't offer them. Instead, they carve out a much needed niche of ready-to-cook meets such as stuffed chicken breast and steak tips that have been marinated to perfection. I used to buy their Filet Mignon, which is fairly priced at market average for retail. But if you want something different that you won't always make yourself, get their steak tips. These things are so incredibly marinated full of flavor. I bought the teriyaki recently and it was the softest beef I've had in a long time. They also have a bunch of nice random sides available. Anytime I'm running errands around town, I stop by to pickup some meat for the weekend or for day to day like to put on salads and whatnot. The workers are nice, nothing special, but nice overall. No complaints so far. Oh, BTW, they have a huge sidewall full of k-cups if you happen to use those. Kinda random, but considering I'm thinking of getting a k-cup machine, this is a nice add-on. read more

Including the ground beef, nothing seems terribly special. Some of their prepared foods are good. Again nothing special. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I went in yesterday with my Eversave vouchers. Good selection of marinated meats. We got the Pedroia package, which seems to be their most popular at $54.99. Everything tasted delicious once we got it on the grill, especially once the caribalo (hot and sweet) wings. The only slight disappointment is the broccoli rabe, garlic and cheese sausage. Cheese is so unnecessary in these! The taste would be better without it. The woman working gave me a little attitude about using both eversave vouchers, even though I split my order up into two transactions. I might decide to blame these guys completely for deciding to go back to eating meat. Now lets talk for a second about business hours. I accept that a small family business deserves to have reasonable hours - especially on the weekends. BUT um the weekend is all about cookouts right? (in the summer anyway) and these guys close by 2PM on Sunday, 5PM on Saturday. Oftentimes I am looking into my fridge at 5PM and realizing that I need some steak tips. This butcher shop is amazing! Once you try it you won't want to shop in the supermarket meat department. I have tried the Al Capone Roast, the Caribbean steak tips, & this week the Cordon blue. I am not usually fond of chicken meals, but this was delicious. It was stuffed with loads of ham & cheese. Everything has been excellent! You don't have to drive yourself crazy what to make for dinner. There is a big selection to choose from & all you have to do is unwrap it & put in in the oven. They will tell you how long to cook it. They also have items that are frozen and prepackaged. The place is very clean & the prices are reasonable for the quality you get. They also have coupon specials. We decided this morning we were having Roast Beef for Sunday dinner (wasn't really my choice but the rest of the family as I'm not a big fan of Roast Beef)! I've lived in Stoneham for a while but have never gone to this shop. I went in to J&B early this morning, spoke with the Butcher, how many people to feed, etc. He recommend a certain cut and I said fine. As he rang up the meat at the Register, I have to say, it was a little pricey. I served the meal this afternoon and I have to say everyone was raving about the meat! It was probably the best roast beef I've ever had, again, I'm not a big Roast Beef eater but this was really Delicious! I guess it's true, you get what you pay for, but for a few bucks more, this meat was well worth it! I'll be back!!! read more

Stopped in last minute to get steak tips and sausage for a BBQ. The staff were very friendly and the selection of meat, chicken, and pork was really good. The sausages were great, I bought the red wine and provolone and garlic and cheese, they were a hit with my friends and the Caraballo steak tips were amazing! They have a little kick to them which was unexpected but great. They also have the largest selection of k-cups I have seen at a non-keurig store. If you're looking for a typical butcher, where you select your cut of meat and it's cut right there, this isn't it. They are somewhere in between a specialty meat shop and butcher but very good all the same. read more
