I've actually been a customer at McKinnon's going back all the way to the 80s. Back in the day my dad and I used to drive over to Everett and get truckloads full of meats for our barbecues. We roll up with a truck loaded up with ice. We used to purchase about 15 pork roasts 50 to 100 pounds of hamburg, same for chicken wings, sausages etc. as we used to have huge Fourth of July parties with approximately 400 people at our house and we purchased all the meats here. Always a good experience, always good quality never any negativity at this store. Onto the present I still currently stop in a couple times a month to pick up a porterhouse or some of their specialty marinated meats. They also have killer homemade deli roast beef behind the counter for sandwiches. As most markets, they have the miscellaneous, a little vegetable section, some dry goods, etc., etc. but I still consider this a butchery. They have fabulous meats, chickens etc. go by you might get lucky with a special. There's about 8 or 10 offstreet parking spots so hopefully you get lucky and get one. The staff here are either seasoned veterans or high school kids all which are very respectful and helpful. I usually get an American or Italian sub and they tend to be excellent, well-stuffed with the good meats, and on nice firm sub rolls. A reviewer claimed the rolls are old but I've never once gotten a stale one. It's possible the reviewer confused good crunchy Italian rolls with day-old rolls. As a connoisseur of good Italian bread, I look for rolls that are crunchy outside and firm inside and DiCara's are exactly that. They have a friendly staff who make the subs very quickly and never make a mistake on the order. The store has a lot of other food, for example, olive salads and tuna salad which my Mom liked. Also sometimes, you can find various cuttings left over from when the salami sticks near their end sealed up in plastic. Yum! They also have a number of imported products (not all from Italy). I like their imported pastas such as the big Rigatoni and Fusilli. They have some spices too--I always get the Rosemary from Cento. Oddly, they also have an excellent variety of potato chip brands--Utz, Cape Cod, Wachusett, Zapp's, Dirty, and sometimes Wise. Finally, they carry some nice cupcakes & desserts from nearby bakeries.

I researched local eateries that had outdoor seating and made my way down to Zuzu's. Though most of the tables were roped off to the side, I noticed a couple open ones in the front, so I proceeded. The small shop is quaint and cute, but the menu is ample. The sandwich selections sounded scrumptions and I had a hard time picking just one. I finally settled on the French Chicken that includes grilled chicken, goat cheese, asparagus, tomato, greens and herb mayo. You get your choice of panini, sandwich bread or a wrap. Not many places offer flavored wraps and I am happy to report that Zuzu's does (white, wheat or spinach). I got the spinach. I asked the worker if the patio was open and she directed me to the same two patio tables I had seen when I first approached. She seemed a little stressed or preoccupied, but no matter, I was content to enjoy the day. I waited at my table for the sandwich to arrive and got to do some people watching along main street in the crisp air. My sandwich arrived in less than 10 minutes and I dived right in. Delicious! I love how it was laid out, every layer provided an even bite. I'm a sucker for anything with goat cheese on it, so it was already a win, but I hadn't seen the asparagus listed on the menu, so I was a little taken aback. But I have to say that it provided a perfect little crunch. The chicken was tender and the herb aioli was uplifting. I read a previous review about the Zuzu's pickles, and I have to agree. I actually make my own pickles at home and would prefer a more fresh sliced pickle on the side than the one that was provided.
