This past weekend I got some catering from Zuzu's Cafe for a family event. Dawn and I communicated by email for the ordering, followed by a quick phone call to confirm. The day of, I picked up the food cold and heated it myself according to Dawn's instructions, and every item we ordered was fantastic. Literally every single person at the party remarked on how great it all was. I highly recommend Zuzu's for any catering needs, and thank Dawn for helping me pull together a successful family event. She couldn't have been nicer or easier to work with (even when I was inadvertently slightly a jerk during pickup because of a previous and completely unrelated interaction I had had earlier that day). I was taking a mental health day from work last week and just had to get outside and enjoy the spring air. I researched local eateries that had outdoor seating and made my way down to Zuzu's. Though most of the tables were roped off to the side, I noticed a couple open ones in the front, so I proceeded. The small shop is quaint and cute, but the menu is ample. The sandwich selections sounded scrumptions and I had a hard time picking just one. I finally settled on the French Chicken that includes grilled chicken, goat cheese, asparagus, tomato, greens and herb mayo. You get your choice of panini, sandwich bread or a wrap. Not many places offer flavored wraps and I am happy to report that Zuzu's does (white, wheat or spinach). I got the spinach. I asked the worker if the patio was open and she directed me to the same two patio tables I had seen when I first approached. She seemed a little stressed or preoccupied, but no matter, I was content to enjoy the day. I waited at my table for the sandwich to arrive and got to do some people watching along main street in the crisp air. My sandwich arrived in less than 10 minutes and I dived right in. Delicious! I love how it was laid out, every layer provided an even bite. I'm a sucker for anything with goat cheese on it, so it was already a win, but I hadn't seen the asparagus listed on the menu, so I was a little taken aback. But I have to say that it provided a perfect little crunch. The chicken was tender and the herb aioli was uplifting. I read a previous review about the Zuzu's pickles, and I have to agree. I actually make my own pickles at home and would prefer a more fresh sliced pickle on the side than the one that was provided. Overall, my first time at Zuzu's was a 4 star experience, and I look forward to enjoying many more delectable menu items! read more

One week before Mother's Day I decided to order food from Zuzu's catering menu. I didn't want to cook, nor have my wonderful Mother in Law cook either! Ordering was a cinch, quick emails with Dawn and we were set. We ordered the Caprese Bites, Garden salad, Mediterranean Chicken and Eggplant Parm. All really delicious and were big hits. Although, the chicken was the clear winner and the flavor was so spot on! It even heated up well for lunches the following week. Usually I don't give flat out 5 stars for trying something the first time, but I am confident that when we order again next year, it will be just as amazing! read more

Zuzu's is a cute lil' lunch spot right on Main Street in Wakefield. Don't let its quaintness fool you though - this place has quite a sizable menu. Big bonus points for breakfast served all day! On my latest visit, I got a breakfast sandwich (egg/bacon) on an English muffin. It was a simple choice, but it was wonderful! On past visits, I've had various combinations of sandwiches with chicken / bacon / cheese / lettuce / pickles. All were solid. Portion size is reasonable - a big enough sandwich that you can *probably* finish it all in one meal, but can also stretch it out into two meals if you really want to. My one food-related complaint is that their sandwich pickles are basically dill spears cut up into long thin slices. This may sound like a small thing, but I love my pickles... since this is a sandwich place, it would be great if they had some actual round, sandwich-stype pickles that didn't fall right off the sandwich. Gah! Okay, pickle rant over. They also have an awesome collection of pre-made salads and tasty proteins like salmon, chicken cutlet, etc. that you can order up solo or as part of of sandwiches / salads / wraps / bowls. This place seems to be generally willing to accommodate most build-your-own style sandwiches (and more), so get creative! Prices are OK - I've seen cheaper, but given that this place is a nice local business, I don't mind paying an extra buck or two to support it. The outdoor seating space here is nothing fancy, but it does the trick if you're looking to soak up some sun while chowing down on a fresh sandwich. Glad we discovered this place! read more

I have not utilized their services since the café/deli closed, but when it was open, it was absolutely amazing. The food is always fresh, delicious, and staff is always friendly and kind. Small local business doing it right, and there's nothing more you could ask for. The layout of the business definitely looked like it thrived more in the summer than in the winter. There's a giant patio that was closed due to the season, but I can imagine how busy this place is when it's warmer outside. There is a pretty big menu, all varieties of sandwiches, which is perfect for lunch. I grabbed the zuzus chicken salad sandwich, which came with chicken salad, cheese, a slice of apple, and greens. I opted for it to be put on a croissant, because I wanted something different. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It was very full with chicken salad, and the apple slice was refreshing. The cheese also gave a great balance to the whole sandwich. My boyfriend got a French dip panini, and he wish he asked for it without the horseradish. It was a tad too strong for him. The space inside is a bit hallow and empty; because it's so cold outside, I was hoping the bench seating would have little pillows to make the space warmer and homier. The menu is large, you are able to customize and mix and match to order a different meal every time. So it was a no-brainer for me when looking to order a few trays for my one year old's bday from the exclusive catering side. Except, they do not pick up the phone. Like ever. I also submitted an email inquiry because there's just so much to choose from and I'd hoped to either stop by or pick their ear briefly on the phone. No reply. I was recently at the Floral Way Festival in Wakefield on the lake sponsored by The Wakefield Garden Club. The club had sandwiches from ZuZu Cafe and they were outstanding! I had a ham and a roast beef. The sandwiches were in the form of a wrap and were delicious with abundant greens and a smooth cheese and meat. I felt transported to a gourmet world. We ordered from Zuzu's for our Christmas Eve dinner. I had the tenderloin, which came with brussel sprouts and potatoes that were kinda like au gratin. The meat was cooked very nicely and was tender and well seasoned. The potatoes were tasty, and the brussel sprouts were excellent- they didn't have that bitter aftertaste that you sometimes get with them. I would definitely order from them again! read more

Stopped here today, did not know it existed. Was surprised by the menu. Check this out, CRANBERRY DILL TURKEY swiss, asparagus, greens and cranberry dill mayo, odd? Yes but wow, oh so tasty. Had lunch here today! The food is beautiful and fresh, the salmon and quiche were cooked to perfection. The outdoor patio to the front is a super cute place to overlook downtown WAKEFIELD and the lake. Dogs are allowed on the patio as long as they behave. Very enjoyable lunch. This place is so cute. I have been a couple of times before and really liked it, so I took my mom for lunch today. If you are looking to enjoy a gourmet, relatively healthy lunch (outside!) then Zuzu's is definitely the place for you. The patio is a little small and the food takes a little while, but that's only because they get busy and the sandwiches are made to order. I had the turkey and Brie as a panini on Tuscan wheat (thick slices of turkey, Brie, apple slices, fig jam, greens... added side of pesto). So fresh and delicious. My mom enjoyed a vegetable panini with goat cheese and added pesto. Also fresh and delicious. I am a pretty tough reviewer and I am so happy when some place comes around that I can really enjoy. If a place sucks, I will say it sucks... but if a place is bomb, then I have to give props. So far I have eaten at this cafe about ten times so I got a very good sample size of the food and atmosphere. The five stars is for the food mainly, but the seating area is really cool even though there isn't a ton of it. I would have probably eaten more of the dishes if I didn't fall in love with the beef tenderloin panini. It is made from real beef tenderloin / filet mignon style with a wonderful tasting horseradish sauce that I want to buy bottles of and slap it on meat at home. I can go any place to get a roast beef sandwich, but I haven't found any other place that serves real beef filet on a sandwich. It's pretty damn amazing and it doesn't want a ring to prove how much I love it. Even though I love the tenderloin, I did try the chicken salad with cranberries in it... damn good. I also had the turkey sandwich with some sort of pesto sauce on it that was made with chunks of turkey... not that deli sandwich stuff I can get at Stop and Shop. Last time I was there I tried something I never heard of... a crabcake panini... why the hell aren't these things sold on every street corner? They are foodgasmic! When it is nice out, the patio area is the only place to be. I think it's the only restaurant to have outdoor seating besides picnicking by lake. Came to Zuzu's while looking for a nice place to get both coffee (for my friend who already ate lunch) and food (for me, because I hadn't eaten. And also because I am basically a human vacuum who is always hungry and always DTE -- Down To Eat). I was pleasantly surprised by the large, panini-heavy menu! They put the DELI in DELICIOUS (yep, that happened). It took me a good fifteen minutes to make up my mind, but ultimately I decided on the Chicken Caprese Panini, and a half casear salad. I sat outside and the food was brought out to me. Everything was really fresh -- the bread was absolutely delicious and well panini'd. The whole thing cost me $14 including my soda and it was a LOT of food for the money. I couldn't eat most of the salad, which was a bummer because it was super fresh lettuce, good parm and a nice classic casear dressing with homemade croutons. Yum. The sandwich was good, but just shy of that 5th star. The cheese wasn't melted in my panini, and it wasn't buffalo mozzarella, which I would expect in a "caprese" anything. The chicken was flavorful, but very dry. It took away from the overall flavor of the sandwich. The mixed greens and tomato in the panini were delish and the pesto was yummy, too. I wonder if the sandwich hadn't had chicken maybe the heat from the press would have carried through to the cheese? A mystery for another day. Zuzu's serves breakfast all day, as if your life wasn't complicated enough with all the amazing menu offerings for lunch. They close pretty early -- 4pm on Saturdays -- but it's worth getting over here for lunch because it is just a tiny haven of all things earthy fresh homemade delicious. Best place for lunch in Wakefield hands down! I mean, Wakefield has some good eats, which I hold dear, but Zuzu's is my number one pick. The owners are pretty awesome and know me by name. Btissam is also awesome. And if you're lucky, you'll get to meet little Zuzu! She's the daugther of the owners and is adorable. Anyway, the place has a sweet patio outside, but I really wish the place were bigger! Either way, the focus is on local ingredients, organic/natural food and in-season produce. You can even see them preparing the delicious food in front of you, and the foods are displayed prominently in the display case. My personal favorite here is the Lobster Bisque soup, which I get every time they have it. Also, their salads are made with organic greens and are HUGE and well-made. The price you pay is worth it for what you get, as the portions are also huge. You may get two meals in one. I am always impressed and constantly look for the daily specials as there is always something new to be had. Zuzu's is a family affair with the focus on quality, and I will continue to support them as long as they keep this emphasis. You also can't go wrong with their macchiato and iced mochas, though the other coffee/espresso drinks are also well worth it. I don't usually give 5 stars but I love ZuZu's! The catering platters are phenomenal. We've placed orders with ZuZu's on 4 occasions now. We've ordered different items each time, ranging from hot dishes to salads to chicken/beef skewers to calzones to quiches and sandwiches. The food has been consistently outstanding, not to mention very well-received by our family and friends. We have also enjoyed meals from the cafe (mostly take-out) and love the variety of items on the menu. We typically look at the specials online and call ahead so our order will be ready. For lunch and dinner, the meals are maybe a dollar more than a standard pizza/sub shop, but the selection and quality of ingredients are far superior - there's really no comparison. My husband calls this "grown up food" (even though, as another reviewer mentioned, there are good options for children). It's a great location in downtown Wakefield, an easy walk from the Common or the lake, but parking in front of the cafe is sometimes tricky. I usually have luck finding a space across the street in front of Artichokes. I highly recommend ZuZu's to anyone looking for something delicious and different, especially for catering platters. read more

Based on Yelp reviews we picked Zuzu's for lunch today. We were excited to find fresh food and an interesting menu and when you first walk into the tiny reception area...if you can even call it that, you are greeted with a cooler case stocked with appetizing plated prepared entrees (think steak tenderloin salad, curried tuna, etc) in front of a busy kitchen area. For some reason, maybe it was the joggers running past the front of the outdoor seating, we chose green salads. Both of us had southwest salads which came out attractively plated. My GF's unseasoned chicken breast was cooked perfectly and although served at room temps, was moist on the inside and tender on the out. My salad had a piece of salmon that was also without flavor, overcooked and on the dry side. As Alton Brown would say: "not good eats". Both salads were served without dressing but with a small portion of salsa. I get the healthy idea, but flavorless was the theme with these, despite looking great on the plate. They needed dressing, or salt, or spicy something (isn't that the SW part of a SW salad??). For dessert there was a tray on the counter with cookies and a cupcake or two. These were under a glass cover with fingerprints and grease smudges and the desserts appeared picked over. It reminded me of Grandma's house after my brothers and I were done vulturing. Not appetizing at all. Despite the flavorless food we are determined to give Zuzu's another try. The rest of the menu looked great and the items in the cooler case were enough reinforcement for that idea to bring us back to eat under the awning outside. read more

ZuZu's has amazing sandwiches, let me start there. I first tried them after a nice walk around the lake with my mom. She wanted to grab a quick bite and ZuZu's has outdoor seating (a little brick patio) so it seemed like a great place to rest and eat. We both ordered panini's from their specials. Mine was the curry tuna and hers was a chicken salad type (cannot remember exactly). Together they weren't the cheapest sandwiches, over $20 for just the paninis and two drinks but in terms of "gourmet sandwiches" it is moderate. The cashier was extremely nice, he was very energetic and repeated the order several times to make sure he had it right. After paying he said we could have a seat and they would bring it to us. So we sat... and sat... and sat. Personally I consider myself someone who is very patient with restaurants because I have worked in many of them as both a waitress and a bartender - I understand when things get busy. But this was a verrrrrrrrrry long time, so much so that every table around us (even groups of 4 that walked in a good 10 minutes after us) was nearing the end of their meals before ours had even arrived. The cashier came out to check on us and explained that it would be arriving shortly. He did not come out and say that it was forgotten but that seemed to be implied. I'm still giving ZuZu's a 4/5 star rating because when the food did arrive it was very good! Hoping next time the wait will be a bit shorter though. read more

Just finished up meetings the other day and the office used Zuzu's as their caterer. I was so impressed with the food that I inquired about the caterer. I was told that Zuzu's is a lovely, family run cafe, which use fresh ingredients and have a true love of food and their business, which is why they use them all of the time. The office staff could not stop raving about the cafe. The food was so good, that I ended up going to the cafe the next day for lunch and I am really glad that I did. Delicious. I absolutely love it here and have now had both their breakfast and lunch options. The first two times I came I was meeting friends for lunch. Each time I went I had the turkey, Brie & fig sandwich. As I was pregnant at the time I was so excited and impressed that it wasn't deli turkey, but rather real, roasted turkey. It was delicious and I recommend that as my favorite item. I also loved their lemonade as a summer treat. :-) This last time I went, I met someone earlier with my newborn and we sat outside. The outside seating is MUCH BETTER than their indoor seating, as indoor is cramped. It was perfect for a morning meeting and I enjoyed the chicken sausage, 3 eggs & an English muffin. My mom & her friend had the breakfast sandwich that they both throughly enjoyed. They have mediocre coffee (only complaint). This is a really sweet little local find in Wakefield. I wanted to give a higher rating because the owner, who also works there, is incredibly hard working and trying a really great concept. While I do like it a lot, I do like Zuzu's, but it is not as great as I think it can be. I have eaten there about 7 times and have sampled a bunch of items. Meatballs are salty but really good, steak and cheese sandwich was great, quiche is good. High quality ingredients go into everything. The problem is in the details. About half the time, something is wrong with someone's dish in my group. Nothing fatal, but still too frequent. That said, the owner stands behind her product. When people hiked their way back to the shop if the problem was significant enough for them to do so, she was gracious and generous in rectifying any issue. The final meal quality kind of depends who actually assembles your food and how long items have been sitting in the cases. Everything is pre-cooked in very small batches and then re-heated if appropriate. With consistency, Zuzu's could easily be 5 stars. Slightly pricey. read more

I used Zuzu's Cafe for catering for my Mom's 60th birthday party. The food was amazing: we had the herb-grilled salmon, teriyaki steak tips, and pesto pasta. Worth every penny. Dawn even delivered it to my Mom's house with the food all still hot. I received many compliments on the meal from the 30 guests who attended the party. One suggestion: I think communication could be clearer in the days/weeks leading up to the event. I know as a small business there is a ton going on, but at times I wasn't sure of the status of my order. Probably could be easily solved with either someone managing the catering calls separately or through a web portal/eStore that would allow people to pick their items and amounts as well as delivery options. read more

This place is a small and quaint establishment that has a colorful lunch menu and it also serves breakfast. I got the breakfast burrito for 7 dollars. While I waited, I dined on a lemon square and it was delicious. When the burrito was served, it had egg, sausage, onion, tomatos, peppers and cheese in a plain white wrap. It was very good, but I wish there were more egg than other things in it. It is a very messy burrito and I had to get napkins for it. Napkins should be served with the burrito. I would recommend this place. Maybe I will try other things like the buffalo chicken and the salmon, but based on first impressions I recommend this place. Despite only one visit, I think this place is worth trying because they give you very decent quantity overall. read more

I love this place. I hang out here often. Love the patio seating. Love the turkey, brie and fig jam sandwich. Best grilled cheese ever. Light and fluffy quiche. Delicious cappuccinos. I adore the plates and mugs my food is served on/in. Used them several times for catering for parties and they never disappoint. Nice presentation. Saved me from a stuffed mushroom disaster. I made stuffed mushrooms at home, left the kitchen for one second and came back to my cat licking them. Called Zuzu's and they made a batch for me to take to the party I was attending.
