Above and Beyond Catering (ABC) was a good vendor. We worked with Marcus over the course of 2.5 years to plan our event. We originally planned to only do a cocktail hour with ABC, but due to the pandemic, we had to re-plan multiple times to include dinner. Marcus was so helpful with all of the changes and made very thoughtful suggestions, down to the little details that we didn't even consider. Special shout out to Nelson (manager) and John (bartender). Nelson was very responsive and attentive to our day-of needs and requests. He demonstrated great flexibility and ability to pivot when unexpected issues developed during our reception. With regards to John, our guests couldn't say enough about him. He portrayed a true aptitude for customer service and a genuine enjoyment for working with people (all while working quickly and efficiently). We only had one operational hiccup with regards to timing from the kitchen. We were running ahead of schedule which added a wrinkle to the day. The Missouri swim team used them to cater meals while at SEC Championships. The swimmers obviously liked their food. Then, one evening, they set up a huge charcuterie table for the parents with a very nice speech about the importance of supporting the team and being there for your children. Class act. I'm a professional event planner who has had the pleasure of working with Mark and his staff for 7+ years. When I got engaged I absolutely knew I was going to ask him to cater my wedding. My bride and I actually decided that one of the priority factors when choosing a venue was that it had to allow outside caterers. Although I'm an event manager by day, I wanted to be able to fully enjoy being a groom at my own wedding. We decided against hiring a wedding planner for the day of the event so we relied heavily on Mark, his staff and a few good friends to take care of all the details. From set-up, timing the wedding party procession, coordinating announcements with the DJ, and packing everything up - we didn't have to worry about a thing. An incredible gift for me, who was in charge of planning "logistics", and my bride,who was in charge of "design". Mark was extremely patient with us as we selected a wedding menu that was very non-traditional. We eliminated the plated dinner and chose to have 3 stations instead. Make your own: pasta, taco and sliders. This invited our guests to interact with each other and extended the fun they were having at the cocktail hour. I heard rave reviews for the food - and each station was beautifully decorated and really fit our rustic chic theme. We tried to control many of the details that day, but left the specifics of catering decor to Mark. He really listened to all of our ideas and executed them in a really beautiful way. Everything in the room looked like it was in a magazine. One of my favorites was the cupcake table. We chose 3 kinds of cupcakes in lieu of a wedding cake. We asked him to incorporate a really interesting fold out sewing box, chunks of wood and our Scrabble themed cupcake toppers. The result was stunning - and delicious! The level of service that they provide is extraordinary - ranging from the excellent culinary skills of their chefs, to the friendliness and high level of creativity of their mixologists, to the ability of their servers to read the room, choose the right pacing and to know when to approach attendees with hors d' oeuvres vs. when it might be an interruption. I started to work with Aubrey at Above and Beyond Caterers in September to plan for our Thanksgiving Dinner in Boston at two adjoining Sonder apartments. Fifteen-strong, my family is a bit demanding in food preferences and Aubrey was incredibly patient with the changes I had to make over time. The food was FABULOUS (thank you, Hunter)! The cook worked in one apartment and the staff set up for the meal in the other. Ok, maybe you think it's crazy to review the guys I didn't hire, but their attitude speaks volumes to me. I spoke to Kirby at length about our small wedding with a very limited budget. When he send me the proposal, the (vegan) menu he came up with awesome, it was very professional and the pricing was very fair. The only problem is that the bride's crazy parents had cut their contribution to our already limited budget to the bone, so it was becoming closer to a real DIY wedding. (I'm the groom's mom). I emailed Kirby to thank him and tell him we couldn't hire them, and he called me to see if he could help, and offered me great information on getting some kitchen staff to help with the event. I contacted A & B on relatively short notice (3 wks) to cater a surprise birthday party in my home. At every stage the people I interacted with were superb. From Shannon, the event planner who actually came to my home 3 days beforehand for a site visit so that all could be anticipated, to the site manager Michael and the Chef Cheryl and bartender Steven. Not only were all the individuals completely and utterly professional, hard-working and pro-active, they were also nice, interesting and personable. Although everyone was fantastic, Michael deserves special recognition for his organization, anticipation, and endless energy- he puts the energizer bunny to shame!!! What about the food? Fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. And the birthday cake....I am always dubious about large cakes, but the coconut creme cake with buttercream frosting was out of this world. Moist and delicious!! I can't wait to host another party- just so I can see the crew again!!! I believe that one of the biggest tests of a catering company is whether or not its employees would hire the company for their own event or wedding. Not only have I seen employees at ABC hire Mark Haley to cater one of the most important days of their lives, but I myself would hire him to do my wedding if I still lived in the Boston area. Mark cares deeply about every detail of what he does, and hires some of the best service and kitchen staff I have seen anywhere in my 10 years of food service and event planning/management. Everyone at ABC is hard-working with excellent customer service skills! I certainly miss the fantastic energy at ABC, and wish Mark and his team all the best. We had a party 20 miles outside of Boston and Above & Beyond was happy to accommodate us -- which was fantastic. They were extremely well organized in their pre-event discussions and planning. Fairly priced, good menu planning, and great ideas. They arrived on time -- prepped the food very efficiently and prepared a delicious and beautifully presented buffet. All the guests were impressed by the quality and taste of the meal and the extremely professional manner of the staff from Above & Beyond. Everyone said 2 thumbs up and we certainly agreed. Above and Beyond Catering catered my wedding at the beginning of April. I had the pleasure of working most closely with Mark (the owner) and Jenn. We had looked at two other companies, and found the whole "tasting" process to be super awkward ~ making small talk with strangers while trying to eat and enjoy the food and service they are trying to sell you. Though we did enjoy the food at Above and Beyond more than the other companies, the real reason we chose them was because Mark and Jenn were normal people and they made our tasting at Above and Beyond the least awkward by far! They were both true professionals, and we loved that they sent some leftovers home with us so that we could really enjoy the food in a more relaxed environment and take our time in making our decision. The professionalism we saw in the initial meeting carried through in every interaction and we felt very confident that our wedding was in good hands. Jenn was incredibly helpful and easy to work with during the planning process. Though i made some unusual choices around linens she went along with everything I asked for and carried out my vision perfectly. Between her and Mark, I felt that every little detail had been thought of and attended to. The day of the event the food was just as delicious as we remembered. I worked with Mark and his team in July 2019 for my sisters bridal shower brunch and wanted to share the postive experience we still talk about! I had never personally worked with a caterer before, much less organized an event like this, but Mark worked with me every step of the way to help me understand my options (everything from food/menu prep, rentals, and budget), to accommodating my many changes during planning the event (inclusion of rentals, addition of alcohol (and the needed bartender), overall size and menu of the party, allergies and dietary needs (gluten/vegan, etc), to making changes to the menu to be sure the bride was happy and excited AND that the food items' presentation connected back to the event's theme (I Love Lucy). He and his team were TOP KNOTCH and I was pleased that the bride and her guests raved the whole time about the food (appearance and taste!) and the professionalism of the staff. The only minor glitch was the oatmeal got cold during the event but everything else was great, down to the cake they made. Even in the midst of my throwing the party, they were discrete in coordinating with me on the pacing of the food/buffet and the clean up for minimal disruption in the background. This is late in leaving the review but they had such an impact on the event and I always intended to leave them a review so others could know all that this company really adds to your event! read more

From the first point of contact, Above and Beyond Catering was fantastic on all levels. The catering managers are creative, accommodating and extremely responsive. The food is excellent and they can work with any menu and restrictions. I hired them for a surprise 50th birthday party. They completely took the stress of planning all of the details away so I could focus elsewhere. The staff was friendly, accommodating and fun. We had the event at a unique venue with some limitations such as bultering alcohol in; not allowing open flames; etc. Above and Beyond came up with easy work arounds that were seamless to anyone including myself. I sent a picture of a customized cake and asked them to recreate and also recommend filling options and everyone was raving about the cake as well. My fiancee and I worked with Marcus from AboveABC on planning the catering for our fall wedding. Our guests loved the food options and everything tasted great. Above and Beyond were also able to provide unique and filling vegan options, which was very important for us. However, we were disappointed with the overall cost of their service. When we initially reached out to the caterer with our budget ($100 per person), we were told that they could make it work. We provided the cake and alcohol which should have kept costs down. We also asked whether we could rent everything ourselves, but were told that it was against their policy, as we wouldn't know what type of kitchen items to rent. Makes sense. We received the final invoice a month before our wedding, and after providing our lowered headcount (8 fewer people), we were shocked to see that this had very little effect on the overall cost. The final invoice literally only decreased by $20. We asked for a breakdown of the rented items to better understand, but they were reluctant in providing it. In fact, they went back on their word, saying that we could rent our own items if we were not satisfied with the cost. This was less than two weeks before our wedding! There was no transparency when it came to rental items and the caterer applied a number of flat fees, so even if your headcount decreased, it would have little to no effect on the final rental cost. This practice is incredibly unfair and made our experience extremely frustrating. All in all, the food was great, but you are better off renting your own items, assuming that the caterer actually allows it. read more

This caterer was hired by Nascar for our Daytona 500 Day house party. The food was fabulous and beautifully presented. Pulled pork sliders, thinly sliced prime rib with carmelized onions, and grilled romaine were just a few of the offerings. Our guests were thrilled. Not only did they manage to set up efficiently amidst camera crew and production staff, they came back the next morning and picked everything up...including the trash! I hired Above and Beyond Catering for our company Hawaiian Luau event. Our Event Coordinator was Will, and I have to say I was very impressed! They came in on time, and set the food station on their own, and even brought fresh flowers for decoration! Will was very thoughtful and even brought over some containers for people to take leftovers home. He called a couple of hours later to make sure we were happy with the food, which everyone was impressed with the quality of the food. Will came back at the agreed time and cleaned out the station completely and brought even more containers for staff to take food home. Only because of Above and Beyond's resourcefulness, professionalism, and generosity, were we able to actually have our wedding.
