I worked with Soraya at SYB Event Planning and Catering for our department's annual three-shift holiday event and it went really well. People loved the food. We had thick ham slices, mashed potatoes, green beans, grilled chicken with sauce on the side, ziti pasta and rolls. The next day, people were still talking and complimenting the good food. The catering staff was very nice and did a good job serving the food at all three shifts. We also had strawberry shortcake for dessert and it was delish. Everyone loved it. "My mothers 60th Birthday Celebration" They catered at a hall for about 130 guests. The experience was fantastic! They arrived two hours before the event and were completely independent and did everything themselves. When the food was out, everyone kept raving about how GREAT it was. Our guests continued to rave about the food a week after the party! Not only was the food delicious and exactly what we wanted the staff were extremely professional and courteous to our guests. They smiled and went the extra mile, which made our guests feel even better about the time they were having at our party. Their clean-up was perfection and they did not leave a trace behind. Planning a destination wedding in Newport, RI in 6 months while living hundreds of miles away, working full time, moving once cross-country, finding a new job, starting a new job, etc, etc, is no easy task, even with a wedding planner! With everything going on in my life, plus the short timeframe (the wedding date we selected was 6 months out from the day we secured the venue), and the fact that I am a perfectionist, I knew I was going to need help. I was lucky enough to come across SYB Event Planning while on Thumbtack. I interviewed a few companies and ended up selecting SYB because Soraya, the owner, and I really clicked while talking on the phone. While I wasn't necessarily looking for a cultural wedding, I knew she would understand some of the nuances with our families because my husband and I come from different cultural backgrounds. Soraya specializes in taking the time to understand different cultures and she goes out of her way to embed as much or as little as you want of you or your partner's culture into your wedding. I'm so glad I had Soraya for the entire wedding planning process and for the day of the wedding. Our wedding was absolutely beautiful and totally exceeded my expectations (this is a perfectionist speaking...just for some perspective). I don't think that could have been possible without having Soraya helping along the way. She challenged me to think about things I would have never thought of and took care of all the details. She went above and beyond to make sure the wedding was as successful as it could be. She even drove over 90 miles each way to get us a cute favor that we really wanted for our guests...without hesitating! Our daughter's wedding was now just over a month ago. It was amazing! And this is saying a lot for a number of reasons. The wedding itself was on a small island in the middle of a lake in New Hampshire while the reception was outside a private home in the woods near the lake. 92 guests were shuttled out to the island and back to the house. This involved rented school buses and somewhere around eight or nine boats. While we were out on the island, Soraya and her assistant were doing incredible things in the very meager kitchen. They had driven all the way up from the Worchester, Mass. area with all they needed to feed us one of the best wedding meals I have ever had. I still don't understand how they did it. They fed 92 hungry adults, under a tent down the hill from the house with delicious hot food, never ran out, and there were only two of them. They performed a miracle. By the time they left, they had cleaned everything up, left us the extra food in the fridge, bagged all the trash and then left no trace that they were at the wedding beyond the happy 92 guests and the leftovers. I'm sorry that this is our last daughter's wedding. We'd hire SYB again in a heartbeat! read more
