The Catered Affair was THE CHOICE for our wedding day! Food is so important to us, so at the time of the tasting we were nervous (our one and only wedding day how could we not be?!). Upon arrival to their main office, we had an "almost newlyweds" spot reserved right out front. Dish after dish that came out for us to try was so good, it was hard to choose what to not include - we loved it all! TCA was open to our feedback, and customized one of their dishes to exactly what our vision was. They also went off menu, offering pirogies to speak to my polish heritage. A month before the wedding we did a walkthrough with all vendor teams at my venue. Their expertise & professionalism shined. The TCA team asked questions that I never even would have ever thought of, and all the while further strengthening our trust and decision in them. Come wedding day, all we can say is WOW. The food was most spectacular, even better than the tasting! Each piece from the passed bite, to the charcuterie, to the plated dishes and the hand made desserts, they were each a true work of art. It was all beautiful and so tasty. Our guests are still raving about it! The open faced tenderloin gave us a bit of nerves in how it would come out temperature wise - IT WAS PERFECT. Our only regret - we didn't need to rent those steak knives, it cut like butter! You cannot go wrong in enlisting the TCA team on your event journey. Knowing that we wanted to get married at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in Boston, we quickly found out that The Catered Affair was the exclusive event planner for the ICA. I cannot say enough about how helpful this team was throughout the entire wedding process! They provided a preferred vendor list, coordinated with the rental company, organized the day-of timeline with each vendor, created an incredible menu, and ensured our wedding day went perfectly! Amy and Kelly had incredible attention to detail and helped our wedding vision come together. On top of all of the event coordination, TCA truly delivered EXCEPTIONAL food! We had six incredible passed apps, a mezze spread, signature cocktails, a two-course main meal, and late night snacks. The Catered Affair catered my wedding in Cape Cod, MA at my parent's beach house this past summer. I live in California, so logistically I thought it would be a problem planning a wedding from across the coast. The Catered Affair made every effort possible to make this as easy and seamless as possible. We did numerous tastings and altered the menu several times to finally come up with the final menu. Andrew Marconi (who I believe is the owner) was AMAZING. He did several site visits and met with me on several occasions to make sure my special day was just that. If you have the money, splurge and go with these guys. I had about 90 guests and it ended up being about $500 per head I think. They went above and beyond and I couldn't have been happier. They gave my husband and I a gift basket with champagne, glasses, cheese, grapes, and cookies with our names on them when the night was done. They really think of everything and the food tasted delicious. All of my guests commented on how they had never had wedding food that was of this caliber. The Catered Affair is absolutely wonderful. The food is delicious. The service is top notch. They were hired by my bridal party for my shower and we couldn't have asked for anything more. In fact, I've been hearing from people who weren't even at the shower who've been told by attendees how wonderful they were. We had a lot of food, but it included mini waffles, salmon hash, scrambled eggs, assorted muffins and breads. And, everything was great. The service was incredible. Every time someone new arrived they were greeted and offered a beverage. And, as soon as a drink was finished, they whisked in with another. I cannot say enough about how great they are. read more

We needed to organize a "micro-wedding" on short notice from long distance. Very, very professional. Erica did a great job working with us and Jen was terrific on the day of the wedding (including getting soaked to the bone in pouring rain without complaint). Erica and her team went above and beyond the entire process and day of. She was such a pleasure to work with. She made us feel so welcomed and understood our vision for the big day. The food was THE BEST most clean, organic, fresh, delicious food I've ever had. We even got to meet the chef during our tasting. My hubby and I want to go back every year on our anniversary so we can have the delicious food again. The presentation and attention to detail was also 5/5. Erica went over every single detail with us even how they'll fold the napkins for the reception tables. She is very detail oriented and the absolute best at her job. I was a guest at a wedding shower catered by The Catered Affair and had a terrific experience. Is was a party for around 30 guests with a small brunch buffet, cocktails and cocktails. It was absolutely delicious! The front of the house wait staff was very helpful and was very attentive to the bride (and groom who was there). They put all the tables and chairs away afterwards and the bridal party didn't need to help. They were really great. And I can't say enough times how good the food was! read more

I first approached the Catered Affair in September/October of 2011 for a wedding in September of 2012. Right off the bat, I felt like I was being rushed off the phone and that the company didn't really have time for me. I realized it was a busy time, but I felt like the service could have been better. Ultimately, they did put a proposal together, but I'd say it took them at least a month to respond to my initial request. When I called to try and ask them to expedite my request, I was basically told that I was needlessly concerned about the timing. Finally, we got to a point when it was time to set up a tasting. Because they were so busy, the company was unable to accommodate my schedule - I am from out of town so I needed to do a tasting on a weekend. In late October / November, they said that their only availability was in mid-January and they could only do my tasting on Saturday. All other caterers I spoke with were much more accommodating about scheduling and were willing to compromise and do a tasting on Sunday due to the fact that I was traveling over the weekend for specifically that purpose. So, finally, the tasting was scheduled. I must say, the food and presentation were excellent. No complaints. However, the price differential between this company and their competitors was over $10,000! This included all rentals, staff, etc. There was some back and forth with my sales person on this point. They reduced the price about $3,000, but because their original estimate did not include everything I needed, the overall quote I got back came out to roughly the same spot. When I spoke to my salesperson about this differential, I was told that there was no way they could come down on pricing. I was truly disappointed. I thought the food was great, but there was no way I could justify the huge differential and the poor value proposition. In particular, I had problems with the fact that the mark-up is about 30-40%. This is HUGE and to be told that it can't be reduced at all just felt like a ripoff. There was an 8% admin fee which they did explain, but the services that it included should have been covered by the enormous mark-up priced into the estimate. The icing on the cake was that throughout the whole process, my salesperson kept referring to their excellent staff and service - service that I didn't experience. My fiance and I ultimately ended up going with a caterer that had great food, was very accommodating and offered excellent service. I would say that if you're just looking for great food and are not very value conscious nor very sensitive to differences in service, this company would do a great job and has delicious food. However, for me, even though I could certainly afford the difference, the fact that the value proposition was so inferior and that the company refused to compromise on price just left a bad taste in my mouth. At the end of the day, even though we could pay the extra $10,000, I realized that I would not enjoy working with the team due to their lack of flexibility. read more
