Woke early this morning to get in a few bakery stops before my tart class later today ... and The Emporio in Stoneham, MA is the absolute star of my product research field trip! A completely adorable young-ish Italian baker (with a familiar familial accent) creates the most lovely and wonderfully tasting delicacies from her homeland where she was a baker in Turin. I highly recommend this off-the-beaten track little bakery that exudes the love of Italian cooking that I grew up with... smells divine! This bakery is located in Stoneham but I overheard her saying that she is looking for a larger place soon. Yay! I love seeing people with passion that produce excellent products do well! Brava!! Brava!! I'll be back!

(The best) chocolate croissant and an espresso macchiato

I moved to Stoneham earlier this month, and little did I know that I'd be within walking distance of what is quite possibly the best cafe I've been to since first moving to MA over ten years ago. I've been going once a week and the espresso macchiato takes me right back to the cafes of Florence where I'd drink the same before class during my two semesters abroad many, many years ago. So far I've only had pastries - croissants and sfogliatella - but they've been absolutely top tier as well and I'm beyond excited to someday try the restaurant! Please never change!

Forget about the overpriced and overcrowded little Italy! This, Hands down THE BEST pasta in town! Simply incredible! The taste and smell still be rolling in my mouth an hour after I finished it, you know instantly how much work they put in their dishes. I'd give em 10 stars if possible thats how good it is :)

Within the past 6 months, this husband and wife team packed up their belongings and left behind their home country of Italy to bring their little cafe of delicious food and coffee to America (previously they ran a cafe located in Italy / and there they were serving up American desserts). They struggled with the difficulty making ends meet in Italy due to high taxes and government overhead and are super excited to be in Massachusetts. They make the breads, desserts, and the other food in house. This is primarily a take out shop focused on breakfast and lunch, but they have a couple of sit down tables as well. They had originally planned on opening shop up in Providence, but after that property lease fell through, they heard about the availability of this space and leased it sight unseen from Italy. Make sure you check out this little gem of a restaurant. I tried out an iced americano, a sandwich, and a pastry during my visit, excellent food across the board.

Excellent food and stellar service! What a special little gem tucked into downtown Stoneham. You can literally taste the love, care, and expertise that goes into this food. Everything is made in house and there is something for everyone on the menu. I cannot wait to go back. Grazie!!

    Homemade pasta

I've been home from my vacation for nearly a week and cannot stop thinking about the amazing food, coffee and service I received at The Emporio! My sister and I literally stumbled upon the quaint shop in Stoneham. What a lucky surprise! We had a coffee and Italian donut filled with cream. The donut melted in my mouth! We could not stop talking about our discovery. So, the next day we went back for lunch. And, it was even BETTER! Homemade pasta, Italian sandwiches and of course a cream filled donut! If you are within driving distance of Th Emporio, GO! You will experience an authentic taste of Italy! I will be back!

My sister and I were visiting Boston from Texas and we stumbled upon this perfect little cafe. We went for the a cup of coffee ....which was delicious. We also treated our selves to a delicious pastry full of Italian cream. It truly melted in our mouths. The owner and her friend were just and sweet as their desserts. The next day, yes the very next day we went back. This time we had brunch and our meal was amazing; sandwiches, ravioli, and more pastries. Every town needs a place like this. Where the love of cooking is evident in every bite. Thank you for making our trip even better. I will think of this place often.

My wife and I made a reservation for a Saturday night and upon arrival were seated immediately. To…read morestart, we ordered a perfectly cooked octopus antipasti, followed by tortellini alla norcina, and for a secondi the vitello alla petroniana (we were debating between this pasta/secondi combination and the pasta bolognese/swordfish special - will have to come back to get these next time!). I don't typically eat veal, and this cutlet was perfectly balanced - rich, savory, crispy, with a pleasant (but not overwhelming) salty kick from the prosciutto and parmigiano reggiano. We also ordered the spicy broccolini, which I highly recommend for the garlic lovers out there. For dessert we had the dark cherry (amarena?) gelato, which was delicious and creamy, with the perfect amount of sweetness. We shared each dish, and it was certainly plenty of food for the two of us. Prices felt reasonable for the amount and quality of what we ordered (all of the above + 2 drinks from the bar totaled approx. $160 pre-tip). The restaurant space itself is relatively small but has enough space to move around comfortably, which made it cozy without ever getting too loud (it was a pretty full house when we went), with a balanced dim lighting. Additionally, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the server patiently walked us through the menu and shared suggestions at our request. On a personal note I am especially appreciative of the staff, as I accidentally left without my hat, and the restaurant responded almost immediately to the message I sent through the restaurant website that same evening. Tl;dr - great menu, rich & hearty but balanced ingredients/recipes, and comfortable vibe. One really gets the impression that the husband/wife owners had a specific vision that they successfully brought into reality.

The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, so it's a great place for date night. The Fantastic: 1. Service -- our waiter was amazing, he took great care of us. We wanted for nothing! 2. Tortellini Alla Norcina -- this was delish. It was creamy, a little funky, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. 3. Cacio e Pepe -- also delish. 4. Mussels -- perfectly cooked, big and plump, and the bread to sop up the broth was also yummy. The plates are beautiful, but I think that plating and presentation takes priority over the food sometimes: 1. Bruschetta -- this was supposed to come with a balsamic drizzle, but it was served on a wooden plate and the drizzle was tiny and thin, so there wasn't really any balsamic. The dish could have used it to help cut through the cheese. 2. Bombolone -- dry, there was not a lot of custard in the pastry, and the surrounding sauces were more decorative than helpful. We did not enjoy the mixed drinks, they were all on the sour side and watery. So I would stick with wine or beer, the wine we had was excellent. Overall, we had a really nice time and would return.

Especially the home made biscuits. These were amazing. Hot, flaky, very much home made with a maple butter that is sinful. Entrees were mushroom tortellini and eggplant parm. Both portions were large and delicious. Very classic red sauce restaurant. For dessert it was limoncello cake and tiramisu. Both, light and tasty. If you want to stay local and have good Italian food, with a very nice ambiance, then this is the place. FYI -- park behind the building, there's plenty of free space and take the elevator up. We started our evening in the outdoor dining area as the main dining room is a bit loud and it was a beautiful warm evening with the sun starting to set as we arrived. We salivated over the drinks menu but decided not to imbibe and save our use of calories for later. We started with the Stuffed Mushrooms, which were 5 large mushroom caps stuffed with a meatball like stuffing. They were really yummy and somehow escaped into our bellies before I could get a picture. Whoops. For entrees, we ordered the Pasta Louise (penne with chicken, artichoke hearts, and more n a creamy sauce) and Steak Pasta (penne with thin slices of steak, feta, and a light dressing). Both were delicious. The Pasta Louise is popular for a good reason - it is full of flavor and definitely worth ordering again! The steak pasta was good with a much milder flavor profile. The ingredients for everything tasted fresh. The only disappointment was the bread and butter which was a white scali-style bread with little plastic butter packets; I prefer dipping olive oil and spices with a heartier bread. The service was prompt, personal, and friendly. The main indoor space is a bit loud for my taste, so I will prefer to go again when I know I can sit at one of the pleasant outdoor tables. Of the many Italian restaurants in the area, this has been here for decades with good reason - they have a solid business. Enjoy!
