Franny's, connected right to Patrick's, is one of those spots that feels like a hidden gem the second you walk in. I've eaten both breakfast and lunch there and the food is great every time. It's got that old school comfort feel, portions are solid, everything comes out fresh just how you want it. SOOOOOOO UNSANITARY!!!! I never saw the cook wash her hands! EVER!!!! I really wish I had followed my first mind to just get up and leave before I ordered. When I first saw her go back behind the counter after sitting there playing with her, writing things down, sipping her coke and talking to an elderly man customer. She walked right behind that counter and just started preparing food. NO GLOVES!!!!! She then drove a customer home (very nice of her) but she came back and started food immediately... at least she put on gloves this time. When she made my food, she reached right into the container of walnuts (NO GLOVES) and sprinkled some into the pancake batter. I don't remember seeing a grade in the window. Health dept probably never goes by! I'm sure this is fine for cooking at home for your family, but disgusting when you're serving the public. I felt like I was gonna throw up the whole time. Quaint diner in Malden, stopped in for breakfast. When we arrived we seated ourselves, the place looked clean and the service was quick. However, I couldn't help but notice none of the employees -especially the cook who was enjoying a boisterous conversation with another customer while cooking, wearing a mask. The food was satisfactory. It's breakfast if you are hungry. I had the French toast and home fries. The home fries were a bit too seasoned for my enjoyment and the French toast was satisfactory. My sister told me she loved this place, and went often with her kids. So when my friend and I wanted to grab an early lunch, this was a no brainer. Of so I thought. Walking into the restaurant the first thing we noticed was the floor covered in leaves and other assorted trash. After checking out the tiny room we found ourselves in, we found that the only patrons seemed to be regulars and well over 50. We didn't fit it. Lol. We found a seat at a Sharkey table and waited and watched the wait staff have a long conversation about figuring out their cash out before being acknowledged. My sister had told me she loved the eggs benedict, so of course I ordered a plate. My friend got a burger cooked medium and onion rings. This is where we sat back and waited. And waited. And waited. What ended up being a little over a half hour for this simple order. But that's not all, as we sat and watched whom we assumed was the owner lady cooking our meal. We observed a couple things. 1. The cut and I'm assuming blanched fish bucket of potatoes sitting next to the flat top, not covered and for the life of me I don't know why but not iced down. 2. She places a burger patty (looked frozen, but was unsure from the distance) on the grill with her ungloved hands, then with the same unwashed hands grabbed a couple hot dogs and throws them on the grill. 3. At this point she leaves and goes in the back for about 5 minutes and returns with a plastic bucket from Sysco, opens it and scoops out a thick golden yellow goop into a bowl and tosses it in the microwave. This ended up being the pre-made store bought Hollandaise that seemed more like silly putty then sauce. 4. When she is taking the burger OFF the grill (after 25 minutes for a medium burger) she places the bacteria infected potatoes on the grill. This made for uncooked, soggy and luke warm potatoes covered in paprika. 5. When making an eggs benedict, it is wise to TOAST the English muffin and not place it on the plate fresh from the package. This is something she obviously didn't know as mine was untoasted. 6. When frying onion rings, before adding them to the fryer, make sure the fryer is at the proper tempature. His onion rings were so saturated with grease that we took a napkin and squeezed a ring in it and soaked the napkin through with grease. No lie, we actually did this and it was pretty disgusting. 7. Putting a full 16oz cup of hollandaise sauce on top of poorly prepared eggs benedict does not cover up the shoddy work, just makes it worse with the oily and broken store bought sauce taking over the entire plate like big people at a free buffet 8. As you probably guessed, 25 minutes on a grill is WAY WAY WAY to long to cook a burger when the requested temp is Medium. The burger was so well done it looked like a hockey puck and the cheese actually was burnt black on the bottom of the bun. 9. Learn to SEASON EVERYTHING!!!!!! Season the eggs, season the potatoes, season the burger. Salt and pepper is a chefs best friend. There is a reason for that. Needless to say, I will not be going back to Franny's. My thought is they need to get someone in there that knows how to cook and spend a weekend cleaning from top to bottom. Then after everything is clean, take a Servsafe course or three. read more

Franny's is a terrific place to go to eat. There are three rooms - a small room with tables and some stools, the middle room with booths and table and another room that is the bar. The food is great, especially breakfast. (The pancakes are yum!) If you have a large party (10-15), they will put the tables together in the middle room to accommodate you. The prices are unbeatable. What a very strange and unfriendly place. Given the few good reviews I assume some people get good service, some don't, and why is anybody's guess. I got really grumpy service from the start from the dark haired waitress who seemed more interested in chewing on her own breakfast than doing her job. Giving an order where two items were to eat in and two to take away seemed too much to comprehend for her. When towards the end of my visit I was given the check, I noticed one of the to go items was missing off the check, and I asked for it, nicely, again, I got the stinky eye, muttering and head shaking. I was truly feeling threatened at that point. The place is Godawful dirty. The stainless steel appliances are covered with a thick layer of grime and splashes of previous cooked substances - egg mixture? Sauces? Who knows? Food actually tasted OK, I've had nicer breakfast in comparable establishments, and it was a bit yucky thinking that it was cooked on the dirty grill, but the attitude left me with a truly bitter taste in my mouth! I've just moved into the area and was looking for a nice place to have breakfast. I'm never coming again and will share my experience with all my friends. I have no idea how this place survives, maybe they should put a 'regulars only' sign or something like that to let revently moved in residents and visitors that they're not welcome. And that would be for the better, they would at least get the heads up to give this place a wide berth.... read more

Tasty omelets overshadowed by dirt and refuse - everywhere. If you like a clean table, or a clean floor, and clean walls and windows and to be asked how your meal is, or for your waitress to eat her food out of sight and not continue chewing it as she delivers your food to your table, you'll be fine with this place. I just could not get over the fact that customers sat and were served at dirty tables and countertops that were neither wiped down nor had the dirty settings removed from previous diners. Disgustingly dirty! The local regulars seem to ignore the overflowing trash barrel, the chewing waitress who chewed while bringing food to their tables, who also used her smart phone for personal calls during her shift, and who never bothered to ask how anything was. I really wanted to endorse this single unit business, but to do that I'd have to be without a conscience. If Yelp had not suppressed the other reviews of this place, I would have gone elsewhere. read more

Franny's is actually now my favorite breakfast place. They provide a large portion of food for around 8-10 dollars or less. The first time I went I almost couldn't finish my plate. If you happen to go, for a breakfast choice I recommend the "Hungry Man". It's an item on their menu, it comes with your choice of French toast or pancakes with, eggs, bacon, sausage, and potatoes. The staff has always been very kind as well so I don't know how I couldn't give 5 stars. read more
