What a great spot for breakfast! My mother-in-law took myself, my husband and my son for breakfast today, and we had a great time. Peter, the owner is very special. I am very big on esthetics, the place inside is not cute. It looks like the decor hasn't changed since 1986. I am not a current business owner, but I would image you that if you are doing well you can and should invest in a little bit to make your establishment look nice. The food tasted like it was prepared in a wet basement. Everything felt wet and stale almost exposed. The people were truly nice and great, but the food was basically inedible. Oh my gah! Why no love for Pete's???Well, one....it is in Everett.. I almost don't want to review it, because this is *my* favorite place to eat breakfast......my little secret. This is one of the BEST places to get breakfast /brunch EVA! Well if you live in Cambridge, Somerville or Medford....Trek over to Pete's Very close to the Target/Costco plaza...only a five minute drive.... If you go on the weekends...go early! This place is always packed. You may have to wait outside or in the doorway...It is a little uncomfortable, since the people waiting are literally standing in the front of everyone only a few feet away...oh well. Oh and it is on a main street (right off the rotary) so I would suggest to take your first left onto the residential street (I think the name is Everett Street HA) and park there.... Also, if a table opens up. Just sit there. Don't ask, don't hesitate...just sit there. even if there are dishes (they will be cleared in one second..I'm tellin ya!) I love this place for the following reasons: Huge portions coffee constantly refilled at no charge service is fast and to the point menu has variety but isnt too overwhelming the prices are CHEAP! Not reasonable, not moderate. CHEAP...my two girlfriends and I can eat here for under $15.... They have egg beaters and will do any substitution you desire (within reason) The food TASTES good....I mean, it isn't necessarily diet food, but it isn't dripping in oil,,,,,,,it is just nice big yummy, fluffy, omelette's, crispy, salty homefries and golden buttery toast. I usually get tomatoes and cheese omelette w/egg beater, x the home fries and replace with extra wheat toast. They even bring skim milk to me for my coffee!! Went there for breakfast. Told the server it was our first time so he explained some of the dishes do not come with toast. He said " I tell you that because if your like me I always have to have toast with my breakfast" LOL So we ordered our meals with toast. The food service was fast and the meal was good very filling. We waited for our check then waited some more. Then I waived to the server to come over so we can get our check and he waived back saying hi. LOL LOL then noticed somebody paying there bil up at the register. So went to the register and found out it is cash only. But there is an ATM in case you don't have cash. Good food, good price. Can't get an order right, loud obnoxious regulars, and piss poor service. We waited over ten minutes to get our check, the good was wrong, and there was a very loud, very obnoxious regular on the other side of the place that made it almost impossible to hear a conversation with with dining companion over him. You might want to scream and shout about baseball, but I could care less! Ordered eggs scrambled, got over medium, then the waitress doesn't come back so I can say something until I've eaten everything else and my companion was done with her food. We ate and waited for the check to arrive....waited some more and waived at the guy kind of to signal him to for check...he waved back as an saying hi. We waited some more. We finally saw a party of 2 walk to the register to pay for their meal. Sooooo we did the same. I wish the guy would of told us we had to pay our meal at the register when we told him it was our first time there. Very disappointed in my recent visits to Pete's. Last time, my eggs were not how I ordered them but decided to go back again this weekend and really wish I didn't as the wait time was ridiculous. It took about an hour or so for the food to come out, An hour!! I didn't walk out because after waiting for at least half an hour, I figured I might as well stay. Looking around the place, everyone's food was taking extremely long to come out. I must say it was the first time that this has happened so not sure if they were shorthanded in the kitchen or something. It is not a good look though. As i walked in, it had the feel of a diner with Greek paintings and sports photos scattered amongst the walls.. Leaving no wall bare.. I ordered the Pete's Omelet, which consists of 3 egg omelet + bacon + sausage + ham, homefries and toast.. The omelet was very dry, as if it was forgotten about on the stove.. The homefries were good but not great.. The toast had way to much butter and made it soggy.. The waiter was to busy reading the newspaper then tending to the customers.. A totally decent brunch that won't knock your socks off. The pancakes were thick, not fluffy. The omlettes were okay, decently made and decent size. The toast was excellent, and the homefries were blah. The coffee and service were excellent, but the place is a little run down and not spic and span. I prefer my brunch places a little divey, but the food didn't make up for the drab decor. They do carry spleda, a plus, and the prices are very affordable.
