The service was fast and I like it when you get to watch them make the food. The ambiance was a little bit dry but good. I got the steak and cheese taco and iI thought it was ok the portion was small and the cheese was too gooey but it went well with the pico de gallo and guacamole. Last 5 times I've been have been just out of the park. I've been a tough critic of Tenoch for years because some days are better than others. Sometimes you'll get a brisket taco and you'll feel like that the brisket was from the night before because it's kind of tough. However, 9 out of 10 times this place is rock your socks off. Taco Asada 8/10 : Super flavorful and a tender, just needed a little more cream bc it was a little dry. Taco Pollo 9/10 : So so so so juicy! Nicely marinated and I loved the seasonings! A little hot but not spicy at all and it's a nice kick of flavor. Tacos Carnitas 10/10 : I loveee carnitas! Juicy and flavorful! The meat is tender and melts in your mouth! Torta Carnitas 8/10 : Could use a little more meat and a little more cheese, but overall the flavor was great and the bread is nice and toasted. Overall, I need more of that green crema! We came here on a Sunday night after our absolute favorite Taqueria was closed. We walked right in at about 630. It looked like it was a little chilly in there, but it was very inviting food wise. The staff was very nice, smiled attentively and let us place our order. It came up very quickly and we were sitting at a table by the window. The food was OK. I've actually had better tacos, but these were definitely a good second to our absolute favorite. The only thing I found? All of our tacos were room temperature or a little bit warmer at best. Nothing was hot hot. I like hot hot. But the flavor on each one was pretty good. I probably won't get the chicken won again. That was very basic. The carnitas and chiccharon ones were stellar. Love the food, most of the staff are friendly and accommodating. Wish they served breakfast after 11am on the weekend - adding eggs to the fillings menu with a surcharge would be a welcome remedy. Today 1/27/18 was charged $9.63 for a Quesadilla de Maiz. Nothing extra. Menu clearly says $7. When I mentioned the disparity to the clerk ringing me up, he said it's $9. I probably would have still ordered it if it said $10. But the bait and switch followed by the cavalier attitude is inappropriate. Any explanation or a simple "sorry, we have to change the menu" would have gone a long way. Left wondering if it was deliberate and/or systematic overcharge. I'd give this place a 4 or 5 if one or two of their staff were more cordial or knew how to smile or say good morning. How hard is that? The food is very good it comes out quickly, it's hot and delicious. Most of the staff are really friendly. Today however it seemed like the guy running the line really didn't want to be there. If you like mexican food, this is the place. It's busy and they have to move the people through the line, so be ready with your order. Just wish I didn't walk away feeling like the guy with the sour face behind the counter was thinking "it's just a taco" when his co-worker over charged me. Went back today 8-14-24. Ordered what used to be my favorite - quesadilla de maiz. The corn tortilla used to be made fresh - the texture was wonderful. The freshly cooked masa flour reminded me of a tamale. Now it's cooked days ahead? Smaller, stale texture, hard to cut. Ruined it for me. I asked for additional condiments, the kid behind the counter ignored me. Finally got a side of pico de gallo, no flavor, no seasoning or lime juice, bland and boring. Used to love this place, what happened? Almost $30 for what turned out to be two tacos and a diet coke. Sad. We have so few decent restaurants in Medford. This place used to be the only place downtown worth frequenting. How far you have fallen Tenoch. 3.5 stars Was curious about this place after seeing a few Yelpers mention it as their "go-to Mexican place." My "go-to Mexican place" in the sad ethnic food desert that is New England (most "Mexican" places here are actually Salvadorean, they just use the "Mexican" label because it's the only one all the gringos recognize) so far has been Taqueria El Amigo which is actually run by actual Mexican folks---but it's a bit of a drive to get to Waltham and sometimes is packed with way more folks than its tiny dining area and kitchen can handle. A distant second has been Anna's Taqueria (founded by a Japanese-American) at their multiple locations mainly for the price to food ratio and generally decent quality/service...certainly a far better alternative to the craptastic Chipotle chain. The main thing this place has over the other 2 is that you can get a beer here to go with the food. Just Corona (water) and Negro Modelo (somewhat decent), but better than nothing---this is the reason for the 1/2 star I'd add to this review which Yelp unfortunately does not allow. They use the same Subway-sandwich system as Anna's: you stand in line and then place your order to someone who puts your food together in front of you from a bunch of already-made ingredients, pay for it and either take it out or to your table in disposable containers and plastic utensils. This means you get your food fast (assuming it's not peak hours with a big line) but the food is room temp or at best, barely warm. Service vibe is fairly indifferent/cold, as seems the norm in New England although it's a bit worse here than say, Anna's Taqueria or Taco Loco. So I can totally relate to the reviews complaining about rude/lazy workers here. Actual food quality is also about average. I was ecstatic that they have chicharron as one of their protein options, but it was quite tough and bland..."bland" describes everything I had there, although I wonder if this is true at other locations not just this white-bread Medford one. What really stood out in terms of hopelessly-bland and generally-appalling however, was the "salsa" that came with our chips...looked and tasted like cubed tomatoes drowned in ketchup and a couple of token green flecks of what I'm guessing was supposed to stand in for cilantro but also had no flavor at all. It would NOT be an exaggeration to say that I've had better tasting "salsa" out of a jar from the non-refrigerated section of supermarkets. Yet the chips were among the best I've ever had here! Next time I come here I will order the chips with guac instead of that atrocious pseudo-salsa. And maybe stick to the tacos and burritos...assuming that it really is impossible to screw up guac, tacos, and burritos as one would think/hope. But this being New England, who knows really? Better keep my fingers crossed, LOL Thank god for the Negro Modelo! read more

We were in the Medford area and wifey had never tried so this was a must although she went against my advice and didn't get their torta and got the quesadilla. Generous portion of fish wrapped in 2 corn tortillas, with onions, cilantro, topped with roja and verde sauces - flavors were average. After 100 trips, I figure I owe this place a review. Tenoch keeps me fed regularly. You cannot get a bad sandwich there. Every single torta they have is packed with flavor and thoughtfully built. I opt most often for a plato, so I can divide it in half and make a couple meals out of it. Do your best to look at the menu ahead of time, so that the line doesn't form behind you while you stare at your options. If you're in there without a "first time reader" in front of you, you can be in and out in five minutes or less. read more
