Came here on a Saturday evening and the place was decently busy, but we were lucky enough to get a table for two without waiting for long and without a reservation. We got one of their high tops in a back room that had great decor and wasn't too tight; overall, comfy vibes. The menu had a good mix of food and drinks; when we came, they didn't have their liquor license yet so everything was non alcoholic, but I could already tell their bartenders were pretty skilled just by their mocktails - great flavor. We got an app as well as their dish for two people, all plenty of food. The volcano was a huge amount of food and did not disappoint. While their app had good flavor, I honestly would only return for the volcano - huge, tasty, and just great value. Service was also pretty solid throughout the night. Overall, could not recommend Tulum more. Nice spot to grab a drink or enjoy a good dinner - the only con is that you kind of need a car to get here, but other than that, yummy food and a great dinner! Can't wait to come back to try their alcoholic drinks!

We got takeout here one night while staying in the neighborhood. We weren't expecting much since our decision to eat here was based entirely on being able to walk here. It was a great surprise! The food was really good. We ordered the street tacos, a huge burrito and the street corn and shared everything. We were stuffed! Although we didn't need it, there is a decent sized parking g lot here. Give it a try!

Super mediocre Mexican food. They defiantly try to make it fancier by decorating the interior the way they did and changing up the plating into something more aesthetic and upscale. However, to pay the prices we did for what we got it was not totally worth it. The Mangonada with tequila was amazing and I loved the shrimp de casa. But the Birria was subpar and was served with a tiny little cup of consome and the flautas were drier than I would have liked

Nice spot, parking seems a tad limited in the immediate vicinity but we copped a spot across the street. The vibe in there is small and cute. Def enjoyed our experience. Our mango nada drinks made by our waitress was on point, good blend tasty and the chamoy straws was yummy especially when cold soaked in the drink. We ordered two straws to go haha i think it was like $4 each. Firstly the shaved street corn was good, i wish it had a bit more heat would have been nice but that's just me. Use them plantain chips to scoop it up. The barria tacos were yummy i would def come back just for that. You get 3 tacos and barria sauce dip on the side (probably ask for extra sauce next time). The burrito Maya was a large portion, so def filling for 2 people sharing. For me it wasn't my favorite but would get again if in the mood for burrito. The churros were a yummy ending to the meal. Came out hot and with the ice cream. Definitely a good cap to the dinner. There was a mixup with our checks; mixed up with another table, but our waitress was super nice and the manager / owner rectified it before we left. Great service. Will be back for more mangonadas, barria tacos and looking to try the chorizo and Chicharron ceviche

The ambiance here is amazing. The restaurant is cozy and a reservation via Yelp is a must during dinner time. They really went all out with the decorations. The salsa was okay, not as good as other places, it's missing something. The burrito on the other hand is amazing. There's a generous portion of meat and really great flavor. This is a great addition and you can't go wrong with their extensive menu.

We stopped in last night for the first time for an early dinner. It happened to be a Wednesday, which is half price margaritas, yay! So of course we both tried the house Margarita, which was delicious. Extra points for having tajin as an option for the glass rim.For starters we had the Queso Fundido with chorizo. Our entrées were the Chilies Rellenos and Camaron Street Tacos. Everything was absolutely phenomenal! The perfect flavorful food for a cold December night. Our entire experience from start to finish was wonderful. Great service, cozy and inviting atmosphere, absolutely amazing food and drinks. We'll be back.

Excellent and delicious Mexican food - and a welcomed addition to the area. Amazing pozole in particular. This is on par with similar spots you'll find out in California. Friendly service, and a really cool remodel to the building. Place is gorgeous.

I recently went into the newly opened Tulum @tulum_somerville restaurant, nestled in the vibrant heart of East Somerville at 3 Washington St, Somerville, MA 02143. This gem is a fresh addition to the locale, and while securing a liquor license in Massachusetts is notoriously challenging, Tulum creatively circumvents this with an array of stunning mocktails. Their basil watermelon mocktail was a refreshing delight, scoring a perfect 10/10, while the tajin and mango mocktail, with its tangy zest, was a solid 8/10. If you're a fan of tajin, their signature tajin stick is a must-try! Appetizer-wise, we indulged in their shaved street corn, a tasteful twist on the classic with less mayo, more lime juice, tajin, and queso fresco, earning it an 8/10. Accompanied by flimsy yet tasty plantain chips, this dish is a fantastic choice for those who prefer their corn with a tangy kick. The chicken nachos were another hit, lavishly topped with guacamole and jalapeños, each bite packed with flavor and well-cooked chicken, also scoring an 8/10. For main dishes we tried the cochinita pibil. This dish had slow-cooked pork served on a banana leaf, was succulent and rich in flavor, a hearty 8/10. The chiles rellenos, however, were a mixed bag for me, reminiscent of pizza sauce and cheese, landing at a 5/10. It might just boil down to personal taste. Dessert was the crowning glory of our meal. The flan de mama was exceptionally creamy and rich, easily one of the best flans I've ever savored, a well-deserved 10/10. And the churros with ice cream? Heavenly warm with a scrumptious filling, a definite 9/10. It's great to have a new Mexican cuisine hotspot nearby! I'm eagerly looking forward to my next visit, with the fajitas and mole high on my list. Food: 8/10 Affordability: 8/10 Ambiance: 8/10 Tulum restaurant is a vibrant new addition to East Somerville, promising an unforgettable dining experience with its delicious offerings and warm ambiance. Can't wait to return!

My mom and I had been wanting to try Tulum for a while, and on a whim, we decided to see if we could snag a reservation. While already in the area, we called, and the receptionist mentioned that if we could arrive in five minutes, they'd have a table for us. We made it on time, and when we walked in, the receptionist greeted us. She told us we'd be seated upstairs and that we had exactly one hour to eat. Once other parties arrived, we were told we could finish our drinks downstairs at the bar. We agreed to the time frame, and I have to say--she was very strict about sticking to it! From the moment we sat down, it was clear they were trying to get everything out quickly, and sure enough, they made sure we were done within that time frame. Although we felt a little rushed, the overall service was fair. Now, onto the food. We ordered the chips and salsa, and while the salsa seemed fresh, it was quite bland. Honestly, we'd recommend skipping it, especially with how quickly the food comes out and the almost $8 price tag (or $13 if you go for the guacamole). We weren't sure if the quick turnaround was because they wanted the table, despite there being 6 or 7 other tables available, or if it's just how they operate. However, we do recommend the street corn, which we'd give a 4/5--it was a standout! We also tried the margarita flight for about $26. The coconut margarita was a hit--5/5, as was the mango margarita--5/5. The strawberry margarita, on the other hand, lost points for flavor, so we'd rate it 3/5. The passionfruit margarita 0/5, extremely bitter. My mom ordered essentially sides for her meal. She had the shrimp from the appetizer section ($15.99 for Shrimp de la Casa) since the shrimp in the main menu was too spicy for her. She paired it with a side of rice and beans ($5.50), and with all came out to the portion sizes closely resembling that of a normal plated meal. She rated everything a 5/5 and was really glad that the waitress/receptionist recommended this alternative. I went for the Birria street tacos ($18.00), and I'd give them a 4/5. They were good, but not particularly memorable. I ordered them because the waitress recommended them, saying that many patrons specifically come for it. We really enjoyed the vibe, especially the quieter atmosphere upstairs compared to the downstairs area. The waitress did mention that they mainly seat couples upstairs, so if you make a reservation, just specify which area you'd prefer. A quick note for those considering accessibility--there are a few stairs at the front entrance, so if that's a concern, you might want to ask to be seated downstairs, because there are even more steps going up to the second floor. Overall, we had a good experience and would definitely return, but we'd make a reservation next time to avoid feeling rushed or pushed to hurry.

The staff are friendly and very accommodating. The vibes are super cool and the music they play will make you dance. The restaurant is nicely decorated. The food was absolutely delicious - flavorful and large portions. The drinks were cute and strong.

we went to Tulum in Somerville for #datenight I completely dropped the ball on taking pics of the #maincourse because it looked so good and I was starving thr #streetcorn was delicious and well presented the #margarita was a little lime heavy but the #frozenmangoneada was delicious I would definitely order it again the #churros took a while to come out but were definitely worth it the were hot fresh and had a great filling. the restaurant itself is much smaller than I expected so I would definitely recommend reservations. they have off street parking which was great. #dinner #Somerville #mexican

I had a great meal at Tulum last night ! They had the cutest menus I have seen and nice decor. We tried the shaved street corn, burrito maya, birria tacos, mangonada drink, and ended off with churro & ice cream. The birria tacos were spectacular and caught me by surprise because of how good they were. I typically try to avoid ordering birria tacos from restaurants since it tends to be disappointing, however, they definitely perfected their recipe for their birria tacos. They did not disappoint at all & didn't skimp on the meat either. The burrito was delicious and the sauce complimented it well. The street corn had great flavor and paired nice with the plantain chips. Overall, I really enjoyed everything we ordered and our serve was incredibly helpful, as well as nice. We sat upstairs, which had a darker atmosphere but super cute for dinner and they played great music. Parking is a little tricky since it's on a busy street. We were able to find parking across the street.

Highlight for me hot and well cooked beef, tender. - Birria chimichanga (2) this is hefty, i thought this was a good chimichanga, i would probably ask for extra sauce next go around, it got a bit dry without it. - carne asada enchiladas, the lady enjoyed this, carne was moist and tender. - pork belly & yuca loved the pork belly originally thought it was more like a chicharron dish but enjoyed this style , the yuca wasn't my jam. - tajin elote (2) love tajin elotes so no complaints! - churro espresso Great spot, great service.

Plus they had other options, including tostadas, bowls, tamales, burritos, you name it. When we arrived, there were people inside eating. We stopped to look at the menu before ordering, and were greeted by a very friendly man who made the experience more enjoyable. I ordered a tostada with steak, onions, cilantro, a little sour cream, green verde sauce, lettuce, and refried beans. It was my first time trying one so so was really excited. I also ordered two cheese pupusas, which I ended up taking to go with me. My boyfriend ordered a bowl with chicken and various toppings. My tostada was delicious. The crunchy tortilla paired with fresh steak and all the juices from the onion and cilantro paired so nicely together. The ingredients seemed very fresh. We were gonna take this to go, but we decided to dine in. The same gentleman ended up checking in on us half way through the meal to see how we were doing. I thought this was really nice. His name is Chef Noe and he was telling us that he is the head chef for this restaurant. He was glad we enjoyed our meal and it was a pleasure talking to him. Overall I think the spot is well placed as it is right near Leslie university in Harvard so I think it's a good spot for students to come or if you're local like us. It's quick but it has quality. Its fast food but it's fresh. That's what I liked about it. It's all prepared in house and the flavors are great. The decor is also cute inside, very colorful and I thought it was creative that they up-cycled Jarittos bottles into flower vases. Definitely check out the spot when you're in Cambridge and you won't be disappointed.

I really need to remember to look online before choosing my order in the future (or so I thought). While the tacos still look incredible (especially the birria ones), the torta was surprisingly great as well. The sandwich is jam packed with ingredients and really well balanced. The beef was juicy and tender, and the veggies added a really nice balance of spice (jalapenos), freshness (onions, lettuce, and tomatoes), and richness (cheese and avocadoes). The refried beans were a pleasant surprise as well, adding really good moisture and flavor to the overall bite. And including avocado on the torta for no extra cost really is what put this above and beyond to a 5/5 - the avocado was ripe and had just the right amount of it to add that rich and fatty element without being too slippery and making it hard to eat. The fries, on the other hand, were a bit soggy and thick for my liking. I had seen another photo on Yelp where they looked a lot crispier and were shaped differently, so not sure if I just got unlucky, but the sandwich more than made up for the fries in this case. I really can't say enough positive things about the torta. And even though the torta was fantastic and I gave it a 5/5, I definitely want to come back for those tacos. Three tacos plus rice for $18 is a pretty great deal, and the tacos really look incredible. My partner ordered a tongue, al pastor, and fish taco and while I didn't try them, they looked and smelled incredible. We will definitely be back!
