Bandeja Montanera
Mandy L.

Came here for dinner because there was a good amount of people inside. Super happy we went with the crowds Pros: - Mango agua fresca was a great portion size and extremely refreshing (not too diluted and not too sweet) - I usually go for steak tacos but shrimp was really fresh and paired nicely with the ripe avocados - Bandeja Montanera was delicious - all the different textures and spices worked really well together Cons: - Really tight space

I've always walked past this place in my neighborhood and it's consistently been busy with a mix of both locals and visitors alike. One evening I decided to give it a try. this is following a long and exercise field day so I really needed some thing to nourish all of those calories expended. I have the combination all included tacos platter and my friends had the meat platter and tostones chicken. The food is really feeling and hit the spot. If you're looking for some Mexican food this is a great spot to check out in Boston. The meat is less thin and grilled compared to a typical Carne Asada and gives off more of a steak vibe and it's great! Everyone around us was ordering the drinks and they looked massive with a capital M!

Food was average, the chips and salsa were very very disappointing! It was literally watery with no type of chunks in it! The chips seemed very generic like it came out of a bag they weren't warm, salty or anything. Best part of my meal was the rice and beans! Service was extremely slowwwwwww. Spent a long time waiting to be greeted and also to close the check. Not sure if I will be back due to the service being extremely slow.

Anytime I'm in the area I always enjoy a spectacular meal here! Fabulous food and service. You can't go wrong giving this place a try!!

I ordered a tipico montenera (mountain plate) with borracho beans and rice, fried ripe plantain, chicharron (crispy belly pork), and a slab of carne asada (steak), and salad. A thimble of salsa pulls all the elements together. Perfect with a lime margarita (on the rocks, not frozen, so you can really taste what you're drinking). The servers are effective but are not here to give you the warm fuzzies :P

Huge margaritas and guacamole. Great food. Nice outdoor space and indoors is thoughtfully decorated. Nice service. Down to earth and solid prices.

This places is 5 star for food quality. atmosphere and price. Margaritas Mango was great. I even had a sparrow joined me for dinner. The quantity was a lot. It is also a bonus if you can find a seat in their out door seating. Go early to get that outdoor seating. I ate a block away in another Tex Mex but can't compare with this place. I was visiting Boston for a meeting and this was a nice memory.

Always check your bill before you leave !! It states Tips are automatically added on tables of six or more. But we're only two people, yet it still asks us if we want to add more of a tip? Wasn't the 18% that was included enough ? Look at the bill

Had a decent experience at taco mex this weekend. It's right off the maverick t stop so the people watching from the outdoor seating is out of this world. The margs are good, I think on the rocks are better here than the frozen and I usually only drink frozen. The staff is really nice and the guac is also delicious and fresh!

We ordered a bunch of raw oysters, a lobster roll, a cioppino with lobster on top, and a burger (my husband wanted to try it). The oysters were delicious and the lobster on the roll and in the cioppino was excellent. My favorite dish was the cioppino - what a delicious variety of seafood and so filling too!!

We ended up going from Fenway Park to Neptune Oyster by taking the train. When we arrived, we saw there was a substantial line. We ended up waiting about 1 hour and 20 minutes. They make you stand in line outside the restaurant and have signs that say, "Please don't block the other business entrances" and "Please stand behind this sign." Meanwhile, I'm thinking this is 2026 and Yelp must have some sort of online or phone number check-in system where they could text you once your table is ready. But I think, selfishly enough, the restaurant does this so other people walking by notice the line, and it acts as good advertisement for them. Anyhow, we decided to try the lobster roll with fries, six oysters, the bluefin tuna crudo, and their "clam chowder." Yes, I put "clam chowder" in quotes because it was more of a soup than a traditional chowder. I could have gotten past the texture, but it had no flavor and, unfortunately, we had to send it back, which I don't think I've ever done at a restaurant before. The oysters and tuna were pretty good, and I enjoyed them. The lobster roll was also decent, but nothing that I would rave about. Maybe that's my fault because, again, they are not a lobster roll restaurant. It says it right in their name that they're an oyster restaurant, so partially my fault. I was guided by Yelp when I searched for lobster rolls and thought maybe they were known for them due to all the pictures posted on their Yelp page. Overall, I think it's a little overrated and not worth the wait and the $130 bill.

The combination of it being limited seating (it holds less than 20 people) and being a popular spot makes it quite hard to get in without a long wait, so I would recommend right when it opens. Food wise, we got the Squid Ink Pasta and Calamari. The calamari was the perfect combination of crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside, which I find a lot of restaurants don't do a great job of doing. The squid ink pasta was also delicious and on par with any quality Italian restaurants in NYC. I would come back again if I'm ever in the Boston area and want a nice Italian restaurant. Also this place is CASH ONLY so be prepared before coming.

We ordered mussels and calamari for an appetizer which they loved. We agreed to share and got my favorite, a full order of the black pasta Alfredo. They wanted to try the black pasta with the calamari (I forgot the name) and the monkfish. And of course, everyone liked the black pasta Alfredo the best. The black pasta with the chopped up calamari was good, but wasn't a wow. The monkfish was sweet. Kind of reminded me of caramel corn after taste. I will stick with the black pasta and Alfredo.

I've never been into cold mayo ones. This time we tried the cold mayo one and it was delicious. Changed my perspective about lobster rolls. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by live crabs on display, which definitely adds to the experience. That said, it was surprisingly warm inside, so we opted to sit outside where there were plenty of tables and a much more comfortable breeze. Taking a look at the menu, the lobster rolls were... pretty steep. We decided to share one and round it out with a few sides--clam chowder, potato salad, a jumbo crab cake, and 2 cans of soda. For everything we ordered, the total came out to around $90, which definitely made us pause for a moment. Overall, I'm glad we went this route of sharing a The lobster roll, while decent, didn't quite justify the ~$40 price tag for its size. It felt more like we were paying for the location and "Boston experience" than the flavor itself. The standouts for me were actually the sides--the crab cake was flavorful with a nice texture, and the clam chowder was rich, creamy, and comforting. All in all, it checked the "first lobster roll in Boston" box, but I was very happy we only ordered one to share. Sometimes the touristy spots are more about the experience than the wow factor--and this felt like one of those moments.
