Chocolate

This place is by far one of my favorite local breakfast places. It's Colombian arepas with breakfast foods like homemade country style cheese, sausage, pork belly, chicken, eggs. Whichever arepa you get accompanied by the protein of your choice it will come with a big bowl of hot chocolate either in milk or water. Or coffee. They have fruit milk shakes, but not your strawberry and banana but tropical fruit like mango and maracuya (passionfruit). I've tried their lunch dishes and they're alright but breakfast is where they are at! The staff is always friendly and accommodating. I've brought so many friends and family here in the past. They bring a homey and comforting vibe, they don't make you feel like you are asking for the world when you ask for something and they do it with such a smile. They will small talk with people they know. I keep coming back for the food and AMAZING customer service. These new high end restaurants can't train staff to be this great. Oh and did I mention the prices?!?!? Fill your tummy for $10 or less!

Shrimp Cream / Crema De Camarones

Food was hot and had flavor that left a lasting impression on the palate. I would go here again. Be prepared to speak in Spanish though - the effort is well worth the reward.

We went to Eastie for some authentic Columbian food, and Punto Rojo wowed us. I've never had it before, but the food was quite delicious. There isn't allot of parking unfortunately, but we were able to find some on Meridian a few steps away. It's a neighborhood establishment, and the waitresses speak mostly Spanish, but we were able to get recommendations and didn't really have much of a problem with communications. Claudia was great. We had the tostones with guac as a starter. They are basically smashed plantains, and went wonderfully with the house made fresh guacamole. The lomo salteado is a delicious sauced beef, and with the eggs, beans, salad and rice it was quite filling and the Punto Rojo was a great experience I plan on coming back to.

My delicious breakfast :)

Being only half Colombian, I have to rely on my mother and aunts to pick the "good" Colombian places in Boston, and this is it. This is my go to place when I want authentic Colombian food. Whether its breakfast or lunch or even dinner, I order the typical plate. It comes with rice, beans, steak, an egg and a giant arepa. My god its to die for. Also, without fail I need to order a giant Colombian hot chocolate, and an empanada. The bowl of hot chocolate reminds me of the kind that my mother makes for me. The empanada, my god where could you go wrong. Its filled with meat and potatoes and spices and deliciousness. I even can get my boyfriend, who doesn't like much ethnic food, to eat about 3 of them. This was the first place I went to when I came back from my adventures abroad. It feels like home. I will say, it is small, kind of hole in the wall, and the parking isn't the best. But If you can over look that for some delicious local and authentic food, this is it. My god, writing this makes me want to eat it now.

Ceviche tropical (7.5/10): very good. I liked the plantain chips as well Ceviche mixto (7.5/10): solid ceviche Arroz con Mariscos (6/10): pretty average as far as paellas go. Not too memorable, but not bad either. Mostly just rice. Also could use more socarrat. Lomo saltado (9/10): the steak was SUPER tender. The red onion and tomatoes were cooked well. Fries were decent as well Rincon Limeño is the best Peruvian food I've had in new england. I think it is significantly better than Celeste in Somerville and Los Andes in Providence. The service was also fantastic. We came 30 minutes before closing, but they were still so kind and didn't rush us at all.

Here are a few of the dishes that we've gotten over the last few visits: - Ceviche Mixto: great mix of seafood (white fish, calamari, and shrimp) and you can tune the amount of heat. The corn adds a nice chewy texture and is a nice contrast when the acidity might get a bit too much. - Jalea de Mariscos: crisply and well seasoned, there's something here for everyone because it's a combination of fried white fish, calamari, shrimp, and yucca. - Tallarines Verdes: pasta with a pesto made from questo blanco/fresco and spinach and basil, served with a steak on top. The steak is thin, so don't be expecting a specific temperature/cook on it, but it's super flavorful and juicy. The drinks are balanced and really tasty and refreshing, our favorites are the pisco sour, pisco mule, and anything with chicha!

The steak was cooked perfectly and it came with everything I was craving. Plus the refried beans, creama, eggs, plantains, chicharron, and warm tortilla--yum! The pupusa was different, as it's made with a different cheese here which the waitress did warn us. Because of this, it wasn't our favorite but still good. Overall this spot is popular in East Boston, I would definitely check it out! Also if you tell them it's your birthday they will sing to you and you get to wear the special hat :)

Chicharron was great. - Arepa: looks like a tortilla, so not the typical thick arepas I'm used to. So felt like I paid $8 just for a tortilla and small block of cheese - Tostones con guacamole: I prefer my tostones to be crispier, but they had great taste. - Cazuela de Mariscos: Great flavor. A Colombian breakfast felt like it would fit the bill. I showed up at 615am to find the doors still locked & nobody there. According to the store sign & Yelp, its supposed to open at 6am. I saw another place next door. La Abundancia. Yelped it, saw it was also Colombian. And open. It's a very small and unassuming spot. Nothing fancy about it. A handful of tables. There was a Spanish radio station playing. Lady at front said hello & handed me a menu. I did notice. Aside from one guy coming in for a coffee to go, I was the only customer there. Maybe Sunday early mornings are typically slow? I'm not sure. I chose the Calentado. Steak, egg, rice & beans. She asked if I wanted tomato & onions in the eggs. And corn arepa with cheese on side. I said yes to both. Added some hot sauce & it hit the spot. Next time, I would like to try some of that wonderful pork with the chicharrones attached to it. I was sad they did not have any guava pastries, roscones. Would have loved to take some to go. Still, I'm very satisfied to have found this place to dine.

My wife was getting out in Revere right when I arrived in Chelsea, and she wanted to get something to eat (btw, picky eater, no way she would eat here). Coming this far I just had to get something, even if it meant eating it when I got home. I wanted something authentic and delicious. I got a couple of pupusa's to go. They weren't great cold, once we had gotten home; however a few minutes in the toaster oven and we were back in business and they were delicious. A great snack before going to bed. I would have enjoyed them better fresh, but I enjoyed them just getting the chance to try it. The only other time I had gotten pupusa was at California Burrito in Nashua N.H., I don't find them too often. Oh, so the parking is limited in the neighborhood. However, the restaurant is clean and the colors used for the paint are bright and cheery.
