One of the best Mexican restaurants in the area. We decided to try this place before going for wicked showing at Capitol theater, and we were glad that we did! It was super crowded even though it was cold weekday night, and we ordered beef tongue burrito and mushroom quesadillas that night and they were delicious. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Then we ordered delivery since we really wanted to try their pupusas and other menus. Steak burrito: I think I prefer beef tongue one better, I could taste some rubbery texture on the meat with steak one. Birria tacos: good flavor, I think I wanna try fish next time. Vegetable quesadillas: The cheese in this thing is awesome. Churros: Nicely fried, good touch on stuffed condensed milk! Tres Leches: Perfectly moist tres leches, we're getting that again. Platanos Fritos: Plantains were good, but I think I prefer crunchier bites. Cheese / Zucchini / Chicken pupusas: you must get cheese, other ones were okay. It was also great that burrito/quesadillas came with chips + salsa! I think this would be our Mexican place to order on from now on, great addition to the neighborhood! read more

This place is SO GOOD! The staff is super nice as well and can accommodate changes if you don't like everything the dish comes with. My child loves it, hence why I keep going back. Mostly to get his Beef tongue quesadilla. I've refused to try it But he swears by it, and I can't argue with a teen. I like the yuca frita, though ...that's what I go for. Plus, always great customer services! They're so flexible in their service! One time, I placed an online pick-up order. Didn't realize t'was for the next day. Got there like 8 minutes to close. They didn't have the order...and weren't aware of it [that's how I found out, I placed the wrong date ]. Wow, this is the best Mexican I've had in all of New England. My wife had tacos; I had a burrito bowl. Everything is super fresh and totally delicious. Our plates were scraped clean! They have great smoothies and green juices too. The staff is friendly and helpful. Order and pay at the counter (like a deli), and then indoor and outdoor seating is available. We'll be back. I came here with low expectations, and I wasn't disappointed. Food I would give 3.5 to 4 out of 5: it's Salvadorean not Mexican, which I knew full well going in, but it was fresh and well made, and came in decent sized portions at reasonable prices. Very reasonable for Arlington, actually. What impressed me most was how nice the servers were, and how pleasant and welcoming the premises were---the place and the people working there have a warmth and friendliness that is unfortunately way too rare in cold cold New England where the vibe and the weather are often indistinguishable. Contrary to what some reviewers claimed, they do accept credit cards, I just tapped mine and presto. They have a rather unusual system where you pay AFTER getting your food and eating, rather than when you finish placing your order as happens at other "fast casual" places like Chipotle, Anna's, or Felipe's. The latter two are definitely more "Mexican" than Quilo's, but if you have never had *real* Mexican/Tex-Mex food (darn near impossible to find in the Northeast) you would never know the difference and will still enjoy your food and time spent there eating it. /smiles Will definitely be coming back to explore more of their menu! read more

Just opened! As of this review. Quilo's has tacos, burritos, pupusas and more! I tried the steak and tongue tacos and the traditional loroco pupusa and their horchata. Everything looks made to order even though some prepped items for expediting service. This fast casual service restaurant has limited seating and can be busy during peak times. I went there for the first time last week, and I will definitely be returning. The food was all excellent, and different from your run-of-the-mill taqueria. My daughter and I shared a burrito and a couple of different papusas (one bean & cheese, one chicken & cheese). We loved all of it. Thank you Jesus! Just what the area needed! I forgot to ask what country the owners are from but the food feels more like Salvadoran rather than Mexican but in a good way. It's nice to get something a bit different compared to other local taquerias so I definitely recommend checking them out. Wife and I were able to sample a large portion of their menu but they didn't have carnitas or pork as they're still in the early stages of opening. Must tries would be the Revuelta Pupusas, Chicharron, fish tacos and the beef tongue. We also tried chicken and steak tostadas, ceviche, birria, Horchata and Maranon drinks. The Maranon is the sleeper hit and I liked it much better than the Horchata. Very nice service, meats are cooked fresh instead of a steam table and their hot sauce is homemade. My only regret was that I couldn't eat more and need to come back instead. read more

Great addition to Arlington food options! We've tried the burritos, quesadillas, pupusas, and the tostadas and they are all fantastic. The steak is very tasty and our current favorite although we have not had a chance to try others enough. The chicharron and cheese pupusa is delicious, and comes with a crunchy side of cabbage slaw! The burritos and quesadillas come with side of chips and salsa. About 8-10 tables and decor is simple but comfortable. Some ordering kinks still being worked out, but nothing serious and the staff is very friendly and welcoming (give them a break and be patient). We will be visiting in a regular basis! I just had my worst restaurant experience at Quilos. I called in a takeout order at around 4:30, and was told it would take half an hour to be ready, which is shockingly long for a Taqueria before the dinner rush. I got there when the food was supposed to be ready and proceeded to wait for more than 30 minutes before the food was finally ready. Only 3 of the 9 items we ordered were correct, with several items missing. They got our order so wrong that half our group didn't have an entree to eat, so we ended up having to figure something else out for dinner The kicker: when I took a bite of the churros, one of the three items they didn't mess up or forget, I learned that it was so undercooked that it had raw batter in the middle. Fantastic pupusas and delicious tacos with fresh topping options. The pupusas are made to order so come hot (temperature wise) so they would probably travel very well as take out. Very friendly counter staff and ample seating in this taqueria as well. Flan was also a perfect texture. Definitely will return. Cafe style atmosphere, with a more simple decor. I am so excited to have Quilo's in our neighborhood! A Salvadoran restaurant, featuring pupusas, what a treat! I ordered and enjoyed a cheese, a bean and cheese, and a loroco pupusa, and they were all delicious. The little baggie of pickled cabbage reminds me of all the pupusa places I ever went to in San Francisco. As much as I loved the pupusas, I had a worse experience with the burrito I tried. Granted, I'm vegetarian so the review might not apply as well to others, but the "veggie burrito" was perplexing. I had no idea it would come with unusual (for a burrito) vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower. I like those vegetables, but I'm not expecting or looking for them in a burrito. I also thought it was weird that the burrito didn't have any cheese, and after looking back at the menu, it seems this is by design. They don't list cheese as an ingredient. In my opinion this place is awesome for pupusas, may be awesome for other things including meat burritos, but it's sadly underperforming in the veggie burrito department. Every taqueria in San Francisco (home of the taqueria burrito as we know it) knows that a "veggie burrito" is basically cheese, beans, rice, salsa/cilantro/whatever, avocado (if you're lucky) , and sour cream. Everything else is optional, and BROCCOLI is almost never on the menu. I look forward to enjoying many delicious pupusas here, but as a burrito lover at heart, I would really love to see Quilo's embrace a "veggie burrito" that doesn't take the "vegetables" so literally. read more

A restaurant open past 8:30p in walking distance. I'm so happy. They are new so some patience is needed as they work some kinks out, especially with ordering. Staff- kind and apologetic re: the wait, incorrect orders. The food is tasty so it's worth the line. Almost no line off-hours. I've been there an embarrassing number of times since they open. I've had tacos, taco salads, pupusas - all delicious. The churros have a vanilla filling and are made fresh to order. The smoothies are tasty as well. The lighting is much brighter than the previous restaurant which makes Quilos look inviting. read more

This is a cute place. I stumbled in opening day. The enthusiasm of everyone working there was off the charts. I don't know if this is a family restaurant, but I got a family vibe from the staff. I had an adobada burrito. I grew up in Las Vegas, and I haven't seen adobada on a menu around here outside of East Boston. It was a little bit subdued in terms of flavor (maybe they toned it down for an Arlington crowd?), but it was still enjoyable. I also appreciated that the burrito came with chips and some very nice salsa. Their menu has some things I wasn't expecting to see, like ceviche. Not off to a good start. We ordered takeout and when we brought the order home, half the items were missing (basic, obvious things like the tortillas and rice). Had to go back and ask for them but didn't have a receipt, which led to some questioning. (As if someone would stage that situation to what, get free rice? Ridiculous.) Not too happy. First time phone order for a medium burrito (mixed). Price was $14. which is a bit steep. To add guacamole was another $2. When I picked it up there was a little confusion but no problem because it seemed busy. The burrito itself was disappointing. Portion is small. There was no guacamole visible. If they added any it was about a teaspoon full. Taste was very salty. I actually did not finish it because of the saltiness. Bad marks for portion size, too much salt, no visible guacamole and price. I really wanted to like this place, given the reviews and it being brand new but my experience was lackluster. I had ordered a chicken burrito with everything and chipotle ranch sauce. It was disappointing. The rice was undercooked (very firm) and the chicken was boiled with no flavor. The condiments were almost non-existent to the point where it was pretty dry. OK, I've been here 4 times so far and have always opted for the fish tacos because they are soooo good. But last night I decided to branch out and chose the adobada pork taco salad. Mmmm, so glad I did--it was delicious, the toasted taco shell holding all the fixings perfect. I couldn't finish it last night so guess what? I had the leftovers or breakfast--still just as tasty. Wow! This is by far hands-down, the best Mexican restaurant in Arlington! Casual relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The service is great and the staff is very welcoming, and helpful. The food is outstanding! My absolute favorite dish is the Birria Tacos. These Birria tacos are perfectly cooked served with fresh cilantro, and delicate mild fresh onions, and a dipping sauce that is off the hook! You have to try them. They have a pretty diverse menu that offers lots of choices and the prices are right! This new Mexican restaurant also surprised me with an incredible selection of delicious desserts. The they offer three different dessert choices, each one generously proportioned and absolutely delicious. My favorite is the Tres Leches cake and the flan, (but I have not tried the tiramisu yet). I am so happy to have this new collection of up-and-coming restaurants in East Arlington! I don't think I will ever have to stop and get Mexican food in Somerville again as we have our own little East Arlington foodie Mecca. Wow! Move over chipotle! Check out the steak burrito! The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly! And a great cut! had him make me a sample plate for 10 dollars and he made me Yuca that tasted kind of like fries but he gave me a vinegar and cabbage mix to eat with and it was so fresh and delicious! The pico di gallon was unbelievably fresh and I'm a huge pico fan and this was the best I've had anywhere. Best Mexican restaurant in Boston. Period. read more

Have eaten here twice in the very small amount of time it's been open so far. It's been really nice. One time I got takeout and one time we ate in. It's a little slow, but I think that's probably growing pains and will resolve in the next few weeks. It's got a good vibe - small, cozy, fun. The staff are friendly.
