GOD BLESS AMERICA...and this sandwich!! Never have I ever had a better sub in my life. The bread,…read morethe meats, the toppings; everything tasted like the best of the best! Walking through the front door is like walking through a secret portal to Italy (I'm not kidding). The smells and sights of fresh meat hanging from the ceiling is what I imagine heaven to be like! I ordered the Italian sub. First of all, it is HUGE in both length and circumference. One sub can easily be split between two people. The bread-to-meat ratio is perfect. I could taste each individual ingredient with every bite, which is a unique experience that only happens when everything is fresh and flavorful as can be. I think this place just ruined subs for me because no other will come close to being THIS good. If I were on death row, this sandwich would be part of my last meal. I feel like I cannot adequately put into words just how amazing it is. Do yourself a favor and check this place out sooner than later! :)

I came for the much heralded Italian sandwich and it did not disappoint…read more Small, 2-room shop on Salem Street, right next to Bova's Bakery, good for Italian provisions and artful Italian sandwiches. As the name "Mercato" implies, it's not a restaurant, so no place to eat, no place to "do your business" after, and if you've made it to the north end, you already know there's no place to park. -- Italian Sandwich: Long, soft bread, kinda like the kind you had in your school cafeteria, only a million times softer, a million times more crackly, and a million times better. Setting the base are oil, balsamic vinegar, lettuce, tomato, pickles, hots, and provolone. Italian sandwiches usually come flat-stacked or in a C-shape. Here, it's a fluffy stack, with the VERY-thin-sliced-to-order meats-- prosciutto, mortadella, salami-- piled generously but delicately, like tissue paper. More oil and balsamic on the other side seals the deal. It's a glorious sandwich that'll fill you up with the first half, but you'll want to keep eating the second half, because it's so good. The deep flavors of the meats comes through, and that's soft, crunchy bread is a delight. Pro tip #1: Get it with a small side of pesto. Have some bites with, some bites without. Pro tip #2 (in more ways than one): Plan your restroom visit at the nearby Boston Public Market. Pro tip #3: Plan your eating near the Paul Revere statue on Hanover Street, at the basketball court down Stillman Street, or on the Greenway down Hanover Street.

They were also super nice to show me the bathroom behind the register when I asked to wash my hands after. Food 5/5 -Super beef three way, generous amount of thinly sliced medium rare tender roast beef on a sturdy but soft onion roll smothered in saucy mayo, bbq sauce and melted American cheese(I think). Just the perfect sandwich for lunch, no sides needed only a crispy cold pepsi and some privacy. This sandwich is so worth the mess it comes with, you can't eat this neatly, it deserves the respect of a full head dive and attention. This is the only roast beef sandwich I have ever tried in New England but it had me looking around for shop merch, I will be thinking about this sandwich... Ambiance 5/5 -Bright and open corner shop space looking out to a semi commercial/residential area, good amount of seats in the establishment. I walked in to a room full of blue collar workers eating lunch here and something told me I was in the right place for a good sandwich.

It comes in 3 sizes and I got the biggest one because it came on an onion bun. How could I say no to that? Look, I will prob be dreaming of this sandwich back home. Heck, I wish I had another one right now. I know y'all city slickers are used to places without restrooms, but it would have been nice to wash my hands after scarfing down this yummy albeit messy sandwich.
