Daigo is a favorite. No matter who's on the register at the Dekalb location, they're always a little rude. The quality of the food is always great though. read more

A dekalb market win. Hand rolls were so tasty. I got it to go and got the lunch special which I highly recommend. Really good quality fish and good fish and rice ratio. They do also have some bar seats to sit at too. Great service. read more

The concept of Daigo is a quick, convenient handball stand with fresh hand rolls by the sushi chef. I enjoyed the concept, and it satisfied my sushi craving during lunch. However, as far as convenience goes the quality of the sushi is sub-par and not worth the price (around $8-$10 for a single roll). The proportions were small - so I ordered two rolls and it was enough to satisfied my hunger that costed close to $20. I ordered this to go since I was running late heading back to work, along with several others that also ordered it in to go containers versus sitting at the bar stools next to the stand. The stand have high volume, which caused a longer wait time than I expected. Initially, there were only one sushi chef however once the line started getting longer a second support chef walked in. Overall, it is a good concept and worth trying once. read more

Fresh ingredients and satisfying service. Call me weird but I really enjoyed the standing bar settings, it gives me a real Tokyo vibe! As for the food, they were fresh and generous! I had so much fun eating there and I wish I can come here more often! read more

The hand rolls here are pretty good..at the least the shrimp rolls that I've eaten from here. They make it fresh on site and even cook it. The customer service was good enough for a take out restaurant. I'm looking forward to coming back here and try some more of the other rolls. I recommend this trying the rolls here. My shrimp rolls was very flavorful. read more

Confused as to whether these hand rolls are supposed to be like cylindrical or conical. I got a cone. But the rice was nice and soft, sushi tasted fresh, so win enough. The crab and avocado was yummy and soft. The spicy salmon wasn't too spicy but the fish was fresh. A bit pricier than I'd like. I feel like it's competing with the places that make Inari like YUBU. read more

If you want good quality hand rolls, this is the place to come to. I think I've tried pretty much every hand roll at this place and their seafood is always fresh + seaweed is crispy. You can order the regular hand rolls or ask for it cut, which I prefer. read more

I ordered delivery and live nearby, so it showed up very quickly. Now that I've seen the size of the handrolls, I'll definitely order more than three in the future. I was starving and thought (mistakenly) that the rolls were more substantial. Take the advice of your fellow Yelpers, and try the standout rolls -- the Toro, Spicy Tuna and Jumbo Shrimp (all handrolls) were great and I also really enjoyed the miso soup. Next time, I'm just going to order three more rolls! But I'm a fan of a decent sushi spot that's so close to home. read more

It's so many cool spots at dekalb market, and daigo, was I think one of the main spot that I waned to try (being big Japanese food lover). I ordered spicy salmon roll to go. Everything was ready in like 3 min. Roll was very fresh and it was perfect combination of rice and fish (more fish and less rice, how I like!). And I was really full and super satisfied only from one roll (even it wasn't that big like on their pictures). Can't wait to try all things from their menu. read more

Got the lunch special and chose the "cut rolls" instead of the hand rolls.. the rice was very very mushy and had no body to them and completely ruined the food overall.. the wasabi didn't even give the spice or kick at all was very mild.. Presentation and packaging was honestly the only good thing they had going for them.. I had fairly high expectations given the reviews and photos I've seen.. this was a bad first impression and will likely be my last unless I am in the area and just give it another chance for the hell of it. read more

Great quality. Our go-to takeout/quick eat sushi. The jumbo shrimp is the best in my opinion. They make the hand rolls fresh for you. A bit pricey, but worth it. Staff is great. They're also clean. They have lunch specials on weekdays that come with a free drink. read more

My friends & I decided on getting the snowcrab avacado rolls with cucumber-- basically a california roll with soy sauce & Miso Soup included. As we're all picky eaters, we weren't sure if we'd like anything we got but turns out we Loved it !! Definitely a good sushi place to go to if you want great quality, not so pricey sushi. Paid $13 for 10 cut up rolls, & an amazing Miso soup with a great wasabi. read more

I'm kind of impressed with the handrolls at Daigo. I've always detoured my way through Dekalb Market Hall to go to Trader Joe's but Daigo might just be the reason to make me make a pit stop each time (well...maybe only as an occasional treat because prices are a bit steep). Ordering and paying is simple as can be. You basically stand there and mark off on the simple order sheet what handrolls you want to eat and the chef makes them for you one at a time (he'll only give you your second one once he sees that you've finished your first). Once you've finished dining, you bring your order sheet to the cashier, pay, and go. The rice was soft, sweet, warm, and fluffy. The eel and avocado were super fresh. My only complaint is the seaweed; I wish it was a bit crispier/crunchier! FYI, they offer raw, cooked, and vegetarian handrolls! read more

Stopped by for a quick bite while I waited to meet up family for dinner. I just approached the counter, picked a few rolls to start, and was given some wasabi & ginger to begin the experience! I got the salmon and wood ear mushroom, spicy salmon, toro, and the seared salmon belly. Rice was flavored well in my opinion and they were attentive to give you your next roll. Definitely will go back if I need to satisfy a quick craving. read more

Been coming here since they opened, and they have consistently been amazing. When they first started it was all hand rolls, but now with cut rolls, and rice bowl options it's much easier to grab and go. I have my go to's, the crabmeat, spicy scallop, toro scallion, and ikura are the staples for me. I've tried all the rolls, and the special rice bowl, everything is amazing. They make it right in front of you and takes less than 5 mins for an order of 5-6 rolls. read more

The BEST handrolls I've ever had. With warm rice, crispy nori and fresh fish, Daigo is by far my favorite handroll spot in Brooklyn. Quick and easy service with welcoming workers. Not to mention their soy sauce that is prepared by the chefs themselves is the best soy sauce I've ever tasted. Hmm so yummy! 10/10 would recommend. read more

Found myself in the Dekalb Market Hall around 2pm. There so so many different food stands to choose from but Daigo was calling me name. I went with the special rice bowl that came with salmon, spicy tuna, avocado, scallop, shrimp, cucumber and tamago (fish eggs). The service was so quick (about 5 mins). Everything was so fresh, I ate every last bite up. In order to sit inside the market, (very very socially distant!!), you need to check in, get your temp and information taken. Felt very safe eating here. Will be back to try other stands! Everything looked so good. read more

There's a lot to like about Daigo's Handroll Bar. Let me break this down: Pros: -Delicious handrolls: good quality fish made to order, crisp seaweed, with well-proportioned rice quantities. More often than not the food is mouthwatering. -Variety: strong selection of 20 or so rolls. They offer all the classics, from spicy salmon to fatty tuna to eel avocado. -Efficient: this truly is a 'bar'. You come up to the standing counter, submit your order, and within minutes your food is placed in front of you with soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger in tow. Cons: -Poor value: after tax and tip we're nearing $10 per roll. I cringe knowing that I can get an entire sushi dinner at great restaurants in the area for the same price as two hand rolls from Daigo's. -Space: the bar fits about 8-10 people at a time. In the crowded chaos of Dekalb Market, be prepared to wait or come back later. All in all, Daigo's is done best when just getting one quick, tasty roll in the midst of other activities. read more

Stopped by Daigo for a quick lunch and WOW! The atmosphere of DeKalb Market is so cool! My daughter and I wanted to try the sushi and so glad we did. Sorry, we inhaled our rolls before pics. We got the lunch special with the Shrimp with Crunch roll and the Snow Crab Avocado rolls. They were so fresh and delicious! The service was very quick but the sushi was prepared well and it was really fantastic! It will definitely be another stop added for the future. Give them a try as you won't be disappointed. read more

This review is for their brick and mortar shop on Carroll and 4th in Gowanus. We had been craving sushi during COVID but weren't sure how much to trust the freshness of the fish at our regular spots. So, we stumbled upon Daigo and decided to try it. I was happy with the quality of the sushi but really think it's a little overpriced. The pictured box was around $24. The toro handroll was my favorite (also the most expensive protein they offer). Glad to support this restaurant and hope they do well! read more

I was actually surprised at how good this place was. My expectations were not super high, but I thought the sushi was really good and really flavorful. It's not cheap, but it's actually pretty reasonable for sushi. If you're at the food market, I think this a good option for you. There's plenty of seating at the place, but also elsewhere in the market for you to sit and enjoy. read more

Sublime handrolls that are made to order as you devour each one. Every roll I have tried is excellent and served with just the right seasoning and at the optimal temperature. read more

Absolutely one of the best sushi restaurants in New York. Specialty is hand rolls, which are made to order. The fish is deliciously fresh paired with the most amazing lightly seasoned Japanese rice and crispy seaweed wraps. Do not order to go! The best part is eating the fish with the crunchy seaweed right after it's wrapped. Seaweed gets soggy otherwise. Service is fast and friendly. Favorites are always the salmon avocado, the toro and uni when in season. Prices reasonable for quality. read more

I loved this hand roll spot. Let's talk about price... The prices for scallop, tuna, yellowtail, and roe are priced right for the quality and cut of fish. There is a bit of a surcharge for Toro and uni but that was well worth the money. The uni was very creamy, fresh, and from Japan, nice! The lunch specials are also a great value. Highly recommend. read more

Came here as a result of reading the article from the Times By Ligaya Mishan published July 26, 2018 "At Daigo Hand Roll Bar, Sushi Looks to Its Humble, Glorious Roots" The restaurant is located in the food court in the basement of DeKalb Market Hall in downtown Brooklyn. The chef Ishikura-san was not at the premise, the young working chef was not Japanese but made hand roll expeditiously. Uni $12 MP, Saba Gari and Yellowtail with roasted jalapeño $6.4, and Toro $9.9 were quite good. The jalapeño was not spicy at all, the chef should offer a more piquant option. The toro was chopped and of low grade. The Hokkaido scallop and the scorched eel with avocado $7.4 were average. The scallop did not taste as good as the one in Tokyo. The nori was excellent. The Handrolls had too much rice, even though the rice was well prepared. Will give another try if the chef Ishikura-san himself is present and makes the Handrolls. Incidentally the Katz Reuben here is not as good as the one in NYC. read more

Best hidden secret in DeKalb market! "hidden" because it's the smallest booth in the middle aisle between all the food stalls. Speedy, fresh, authentic handrolls. Please take into consideration when you read this that I am rating Daigo on the quality of their rolls, which was very good, and the selection, which was interesting. That being said, I got the lunch special of 3 rolls with miso soup or water (I took the water so I can't comment on the soup), and with tax and tip, my lunch was $22, which is pretty pricey for takeaway sushi in a food hall. In fairness, one of my rolls had a $1.50 up charge but still ... for that price, I could have had the Katz's corned beef and had lunch for 2 or 3 days, and it would have been equally delicious, albeit not nearly as healthy. read more

Unfriendly staff, expensive, small rolls. We got one sweet shrimp and one braised octopus. They were tasty but I was hoping for a whole lot more than 3 small bites for around $7 each. That plus the cold demeanor when ordering here, skip this place for others in the Dekalb market. read more

If you ever find yourself in downtown Brooklyn craving some sushi, do yourself a favor and make your way to the Daigo hand roll bar at the Dekalb Market Hall. Fresh delicious fish and inexpensive. So this place has officially spoiled me from eating sushi anywhere else in NYC. Even a broken ankle (and I live a pretty far walk away), and this place being standing-only, could not keep me away. I want to eat here so much that I have to restrict myself to the weekday lunch specials (kids, it ain't cheap), and I will plan my work-from-home schedule very much around being able to eat here. What makes it so good? The seaweed is top-notch; so crisp and delicate, even my mom who is super skeptical of pricey Asian food immediately commented on the quality. The rice is perfectly seasoned. The fish is as fresh as it gets - although I wouldn't come here and order spicy tuna or salmon and avocado (which are fine) - bc the less standard-fare rolls are sooooo good. The yellowtail, scallop, ikura, jumbo shrimp w crunch, salmon belly, and snow crab and avocado are beautifully, uniquely and tastefully prepared. If you are anywhere remotely in the area, and appreciate good sushi, you must come here. I'm a regular and have run into many others here. One woman even told me she gets off the subway midway through her commute home to stop for a bite. It's that good! read more

This place is AMAZING. I go here almost everytime I'm in Brooklyn. The service is great and friendly and you get your own little section at the standing bar area. The fish is so fresh! I've gotten many different things here and all were delicious - Salmon and avocado, scallop, eel and sweet shrimp. Its a little pricey for a hand roll, but I think it's well worth the price for the quality of the fish you get. We've taken different friends here and they all have fallen in love with this little sushi shack inside Dekalb Market too! read more
