The young hostess went to the other young hostess (Ali) and loudly said, "they want to move to the booth" and Ali replied with an annoyed sigh. We then waited for the booth to be cleaned off and the initial hostess said loudly, in front of us, to a family waiting after us, that a party right before them walked in and asked for the booth so they would now to wait. She then led us to our table. Overall, this put a sour taste in my mouth. No customer service, no manners. When I worked in a restaurant as a server, they would've been talked to about how to speak in front of customers- I was really put off. Moving on, our server was spectacular, the guy who maybe was the runner was spectacular, and they both made us feel very welcome on the establishment. The food was great and we were in & out in an hour. We don't come here that often, and we've normally waited for a table when we've come. It is a tight squeeze in there and the tables always feel sticky, but the food is so good & the servers are wonderful. I came in feeling irritated at the lack of people/customer skills the hostesses had, but left happy and full.

Everyone I have met here smiles a lot. They are enthusiastic about the food they serve. Do you want to have a bowl of soup for your side? No problem! The decor has a classic old-school diner vibe with black and white checkered floors and chrome accents, which I really liked. My only real complaint was the bar seating. If you're on the shorter side, the stools are not very comfortable. The seats are not very deep, there is no foot rail to rest your feet on, and since the stools are bolted to the floor, you cannot scoot in to get comfortable. The backs of my legs started going numb, so we moved to a table as soon as one opened up. Ironically, it was the table directly in front of that hot window. Overall, I'd definitely come back. Great food, excellent service, and those sorbet mimosas alone are worth the visit. Just be strategic about where you sit if you're visiting on a warm, sunny day.

My wife perused the drink menu and decided on an Old Fashioned. They do it correctly here, using a mixing glass to properly combine the ingredients before pouring it over a large cube of ice. She thoroughly enjoyed it. Little things like that get my attention, and it was an early indication that the rest of our evening was going to be memorable. We indulged heavily in the appetizers, starting with LeGrand's rendition of a Wedge Salad with bacon, cheddar, dill pickle ranch and fried pickles. The pickle influence was a welcome twist. Everything was fresh, delicious and incredibly well balanced, and the dressing complemented the ingredients perfectly. We really enjoyed this salad. Next up were the Smoked Wings, tallow fried and served with Vietnamese-style ranch, pickled vegetables and fish sauce caramel. This was an amazing dish. I generally like my wings spicy, but I didn't miss the heat at all with this version. They were perfectly crisp on the outside while remaining juicy inside, and the pickled root vegetables were a wonderful touch. My wife ordered the Berkshire Heritage Pork Chop from Twisted Willow Farms, served with garlic-fried Carolina rice, haricot vert and harissa carrot purée. I knew how good it was by the stingy offerings made by my wife. Just kidding, but she really did enjoy it very much. The pork chop was cooked perfectly, with the fat properly rendered and slightly crisp. Everything was beautifully seasoned, and all the components worked together exceptionally well. I opted for the LeGrand Burger: double patties, American cheese, pickled lettuce, jalapeño, griddled onion and roasted shallot mayo on a Big Marty bun. Every so often, I encounter a burger that requires nothing. Please bear in mind that I am a self-proclaimed Condiment King. I LOVE ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise on my burgers. I didn't even bother asking for anything extra to put on this wonderful creation. Everything was incredibly well balanced and delicious. If I have one complaint, it's that they don't offer French fries with the burger. But in retrospect, I didn't really miss them. And I love my fries (or, as my wife calls them, "ketchup conveyance vehicles"). This was probably the best burger I've ever eaten. Check out LeGrand Kitchen. So when I finally had a day off and some other business to tend to in Norfolk, it was the perfect excuse to finally try them. No Frill Bar and Grill has been open for nearly 30 years by Jerry Meltsner. Jerry's nephew Jon Kliner helps co-own and manage operations. It originally opened on Tidewater Drive, but the space didn't allow for much growth - 10 years later, he moved to a location off Colley Avenue and Spotswood Avenue. Growth continued, moving from counter service to table service. The second location, at 1620 Laskin Road in Virginia Beach, opened in 2005. The restaurant's longevity stems from quality, consistency, price, service, and staff who genuinely care about the business and serving the community. I asked the server for her opinion on two options - Salmon, Shrimp and grits won. The dish was incredible: lightly blackened salmon, for once blackened food that doesn't just taste like salt. I don't dine with the swine, so I asked for no andouille sausage. The sautéed shrimp, caramelized onions, tomatoes, and spinach simmered in Norfolk Canyon ale sauce over cheesy grits and Boursin lavash cracker. The cheesy grits were smooth, and the Boursin lavash cracker was a nice touch. The Boursin added extra creaminess to the meal. The cracker wasn't really a cracker - more like little toasted bread. After this first meal, I know two things for sure: 1. I definitely understand why it is such a local favorite, and 2. I will be back.

We stopped by this diner on a Sunday morning, and despite a few bumps along the way, it left us smiling and satisfied. When we arrived, we were told there'd be a 30-minute wait, which seemed odd since there were clearly some empty seats. But plot twist! We got called to our table in just 10 minutes--so no harm, no foul. The menu was exactly what you'd expect from a good diner: classic comfort food with a little extra flair. And the mimosas? Oh yes, they have a whole list of them! I tried the Nauticus Mimosa, and let me tell you--it was love at first sip. The staff was super friendly and clearly trying their best, but we did hit a couple of snags. My mimosa took a scenic route from the bar to my table, and there was a little mix-up with my main course. Luckily, both issues were fixed quickly, and the staff's cheerful attitude made it easy to forgive. Now, the food. *Chef's kiss.* The Nutella-stuffed French toast was fluffy, moist, and basically a hug on a plate. The Cheesecake French toast was good too, though the Nutella definitely stole the show. Bonus points for the kids' menu, which had plenty of fun combos to keep the little ones happy. I have been to many places that don't allow dogs but I have never been treated so disrespectfully by the staff as I was at this location. I ordered to go and they had me waiting on the street instead of their waiting area. I've been to many restaurants with my dog, that was definitely a first time being treated that way. Shredded hash browns grilled to the consistency of potato sticks - now that's crispy - with sauteed onions and green peppers chopped fine and bits of bacon and sausage throughout topped with two sunny-side eggs. The yolks once broken became this nice yellow sauce throughout this hash brown dish. This was an awesome breakfast for both us. We now have another breakfast place on Independence Blvd. to enjoy.

We noticed a sign that said they had outdoor seating available as well. When we entered we were greeted and told to sit where we wanted to. Our server Angel was extremely attentive. She answered questions and checked on us frequently. My boyfriend ordered the breakfast platter with toast. I ordered an omelette with a bagel. He said his food was delicious. Mine was incredible. The food tastes like the chef went to culinary school. From now on, every time my boyfriend has to have his car serviced at the dealership this is where we will go to for a bite of food. Anytime you have to have a microwave IN THE SITTING AREA to warm your food that JUST came out of the kitchen , that's a red flag, My order was simple--toast no butter. There are NO VEGAN OPTIONS on the menu, so I made do. What I received was toast slathered in butter. Did I eat? No. Am I still hungry? Yes. I had a lemon slice off the edge of my mom's water as my meal. In fairness to our waitress, we were a LARGE group of 14. To compile various meals of that magnitude is not easy. Too many items, however came out incomplete, wrong, cold, and tasteless. The grits--were like white, muddy water. And we had MORE than one order of them. How can you make grits taste like, well NOTHING!? They were tasteless and cold--and even the cheese on the grits did not improve the taste. The side of ham never actually appeared with the rest of the meal. Once my husband ate ALL of his meal, the ham finally arrived. The burger was good though, so in fairness, I should mention the good if I am going to talk about the bad. This will be our last visit. We have been coming here for YEARS, but the lack of quality of food and arrival time of our food to the table is not worth the money we paid. We will not return.

Service was pretty good, food was good, and the ambiance wasn't too bad. However, they started closing, and there was a nasty surprise in some of that slop too. It's really a shame when one of your favorites goes so far down the drain in just about every way. Now I'm gonna have to go deal with IHOP if I want eggs after midnight.
