legrand burger
Sarita R.

this place has been on my list to check out for a while now and i finally got the opportunity to indulge . i will start off with, the restaurant is a small, quaint place. but the vibes are there . i did find parking to be a little difficult, as it's really not much there onsite to park . when we walked in , we were immediately seated . the bar area was pretty packed . since we already knew what we wanted to order, we pretty much placed our orders immediately , and the food came out pretty quick . now, i've heard so many good things about their burger , & i will say ... it did not disappoint. i almost want to say it's an elevated version of a big mac , but ... that's really not doing it justice . i did ask to have the jalapeños on the side and i skipped on the onions , but i really didn't have to add anything additional to my burger . it was cooked to perfection. and i honestly didn't think i would eat the entire thing , but i fooled myself . it's honestly probably one of the top 5 best burgers ive had . i did end up ordering a drink , the smoke show, it wasn't the best drink ive had ... but i finished it. this is definitely a place i would return to check out other items on the menu .

Pork sisig
Romy C.

I'll start with our server Jenna, shes amazing the reason I'm giving 3 star. 1 the pork sisig is the first disappointment that I have. It didnt looks like sisig and didnt taste like sisig. Its more of korean bbq bulgogi but instead of korean sauce they put vinegar. I'll give 1 out of 5 2 the pork belly is okay more of fat than meat. 3 of t 3 the oysters, gosh didnt even put lime on the side. Taste is so so. 3 of 5 4 the lamb, the lamb is self is good, soft, tender even the beans have nice flavor. 4of 5 The place is nice and clean. Only problem is parking

This is a pork belly special Le Grand created from locally sourced Twisted Willow Farms paired with fresh yuca fries.

I've always been a fan of the exiting plates that come out of the Le Grand kitchen. This is their most recent beauty, a nice fried pork belly slice paired with fresh yuca fries. Service is always impeccable and a great environment to dine in.

Cheeseburger with a side of potatoes au gratin.

LeGrand's subtle exterior hides a real jewel. At the recommendation of a local, I stumbled upon LeGrand for the burger. The very next day, I was back for the the burger with a side of potatoes au gratin (dauphinoise), oysters Rockefeller, and the key lime pie. From the cocktails to menu, everything exceeded my expectations. Great service, friendly staff, and an eclectic menu featuring a lamb ragu, which I will be back for. Adam, the mixologist, currated an experience that is unlike any other eatery I've experienced in Norfolk.

I absolutely love the decor. We sat at the bar and had some amazing cocktails from the great bartender, they rotate but I had an "old fashioned gin" which was to die for as a gin lover. The food was so good I'll be back when we're on this side of town!

This is my favorite restaurant in all of Hampton Roads/VB/Tidewater area. You must go. At our second visit the food, service, and vibes were all immaculate. Their burgers are crave worthy. The portions are perfect and dishes are well seasoned and balanced. They take humble cabbage and turn it into my go-to appetizer. Everything we've tasted is elite, including the house and classic cocktails. The restaurant is small and intimate so reservations are recommended. Get the burger. Get a cocktail. DEF get the cornbread pudding dessert. Hell get anything, it all slaps. I'll be back! (Weekly)

Halibut with rice grits and winter squash, rack of lamb with French lentils and olives

Once again, the Le Grande team never disappoints!! We went in for their Valentine's Day menu and started with an insanely unique beef tartare, with fish sauce, cilantro and mint, crushed peanuts, and prawn crackers. It was awesome! Dinner was halibut and rack of lamb, both of which were so perfectly cooked. The portions are generous without sacrificing any flavor or technique. We wished we had room for their to die for cornbread pudding, but we were stuffed and happy. Probably my favorite spot in Norfolk!!

ABC license in hand brought a full house on Sat pm. Fortunately, they accommodated our party of 4 as a walk-in. Paper plane drink was sneaky good. Oysters, beet salad, and pimento apps were all 5/5, especially getting them fresh. Of course, my wife and I enjoyed burgers while friends opted for Halibut and Steak entrees, both "killer." The potato cake, served as a side with the steak, was mysteriously shaped but had an earthy, smokey flavor; texture was like tater tots. The meal didn't disappoint, neither did the service. Gender neutral restrooms in close proximity to our high top table. Also had a view into the kitchen and the bar. They were both jumping! FYI, oto park in their lot and neighboring law office or school lots. See you all next time!

Duck breast with roasted summer squash, crispy polenta, goat cheese, and blackberry demi glace
Zen X.

For the entree, I had the duck breast with roasted summer squash, crispy polenta, goat cheese, and blackberry demi-glace. For dessert I had cornbread pudding with toffee sauce, whipped cream, and candied pecans. The entree was great except some of the duck fat was chewy, but that's where all the flavor comes from! The dessert was interesting and different. It wasn't like pudding at all, but more like a sweet and soft corncake. Skip the steak and crème brûlée; you can get those anymore. Try the duck and cornbread pudding! They won't disappoint!

bread and butter!

this place surprised me in a multitude of ways. It felt like I was walking in to someone's grand living room and kitchen, and the ambience was elegant, but welcoming at the same time. The food is cooked right in front of you snd there are options for both vegetarians and vegans. This made me very happy because everyone told me they are only known for their burgers, but I got to ordered delicious bread, salad and roasted vegetables all of which came out amazing. Even their dessert was extraordinary. I wish they had more options for non-alcoholic drinks since I don't drink, but that was the only part of the meal that disappointed. Great service and will definitely be going back!

Absolutely the best spot for delicious food. It's my go to spot for date night. Highly recommend the burger, and anything with pork belly will leave you drooling for more!

Cornbread Pudding

Ever had a burger made from the gods? The burger was born deep from within the recesses of American Mythological Conquest. One which Steve from LeGrand valiantly returned from bearing the fruit of his conquest. Everything on the menu is fantabulous and Norfolk is lucky. Also, the cornbread pudding is straight from cornbread mythology as well.

Fresh catch of the day

I was pleasantly surprised to find a restaurant with such delicious food in the neighborhood! The ambiance is unassuming of the quality of food. Casual vibes, high standard dishes. The scallops and fresh catch of the day was phenomenal. Service wasn't memorable.

Incredible. I got the pork belly and it was amazing. It also has a very cool vibe. A little pricy but very much worth it.

It jiggled when I tapped it and the side salad tasted great with dill in it and it brightened up things. The combination of both was great. The crust on the quiche was nice as well. My spouse enjoyed their sandwich but didn't realize there was mustard so he ended up just using the chips to eat his egg and sausage. His egg was also fluffy. The patrons that came seemed friendly and you can tell who are locals since they greeted by name often. I love that this place is open. They also have local wine you can purchase. This was very special and unique my husband surprise me with this place for a date night and service was nice and pleasant. We did get there closer to there close time of the kitchen time but first walking in to start our date night we were please to have a handcrafted note to start the date night and have sweet note to take home to remember the night and celebrate us. Our service was very nice and very helpful of helping us decide to share an appetizer and an entrée, and both delivered in equally proportion. We start with truffle &cheese croquettes very rich and sauce that was perfect to pair well with richest and we also got the seafood pappardelle had both a nice kick to it with the various of seafood and vegetables mixed in to complement every bite and the portions for both dishes were good for if you wanna share or solo. And the I love how the service was engaging and making sure we enjoyed the night for what is it and that's always key to going to a new spot you want to continue to come back for more and more new things. She did mention more about what they have to offer in the evening time a chef table experience where they have the chef give a course menu and guide you through each dish and learn the ends and out and we definitely will try that out for the next visit. The vibe in the evening is nice and quiet and very relaxed atmosphere with nice glass art to view throughout the night and the cocktails were nice and smooth with them handcrafted everything and making it sure it's made to perfection. Every employee who passed by greeted us, which made the atmosphere feel especially welcoming. We started with the octopus, served with potato foam, pickled pear, and chorizo. For entrées, he ordered the duck and I had the pork bolognese. Both dishes were full of flavor and cooked perfectly. We also ordered drinks. I do wish they had come out a bit earlier so we could enjoy them sooner, but the selection was impressive. We chose the bartender's choice, which was a really fun experience. It was chocolate something but the flavor was just weird, texture was not great either. The restaurant, which is located in the heart of Granby Street's restaurant & theater row, has block walls giving the feel of a converted warehouse space. But it imbibes a beautiful combination retro and modern decor. It has the feel of a happy place. Downtown Norfolk Restaurant Week was the perfect time to try a new spot with my son visiting. He picked the restaurant. I'm so happy he chose Codex. Entering while my son drove to a parking garage, I was greeted by a smiling host who was very helpful with the door because of the strong cold winds blowing like a wind tunnel down Granby Street. Seating at a small table in the back near the bar was perfect. We were greeted by our server who was friendly and attentive to our every need. The restaurant week menu she brought looked as awesome as it was. When our drinks arrived my Vodka Martini glass took my breath away. It was served in a glass that was exactly like the stemware I inherited from my Mother & Aunt, the depression & WWII generation. They used that piece as a parfait glass. I mentioned it to my server, who indicated they had gotten them at a thrift store. So it was probably the same stemware. How awesome! My son ordered the Phony Negroni. We began with an addition to our menu choices: Oysters raw with citrus mignonette. We never dine without oysters if they're on the menu's. They were good & perfectly shucked. But I didn't like the taste of Maryland Oysters as much as our briny Virginia Oysters. I'm an Oyster snob. :) There were a number of appetizers that sounded appetizing. I was leaning towards the Roasted Cauliflower with vaduvan, garlic lime yogurt, mint, chilies, honey. After mentioning to the server the three I was considering, she said the Cauliflower was her favorite. It was an amazing combination of tastes. My son ordered the Mussels with tomatoes, chorizo, anaheim peppers, & focaccia. He loved it. The focaccia bread was huge! My entree was Scallops, pan seared with cauliflower puree, braised fennel, apple, sea trout caviar, and potato crisps. It was absolute perfection. A mixture of the ingredients, including the scallops, topped with the potato crisps was so much tastier than scallops presented atop the other items. My son had what they call the Visiting Fish, much more eye catching than Fish of the Day or Fresh Catch. His was Tuna served with kobucha polenta cake, jalapeno cream, burnt saybayon & confit leeks. We both chose the Olive Oil Cake with lemon curd for dessert. It was extremely good & didn't have an overly sweet taste, which was perfect. I'm not a fan of sweet desserts.
