The fried taro dumpling is a must get here! Hidden gem in the Lincoln park neighbourhood :) Only taking a star off because of a slightly disappointing salted egg yolk custard bun...a little too sweet and probably not made in house :( BBQ pork buns were solid though! and if you're feeling adventurous, give the honeycomb tripe a go - really good!

D Cuisine is a solid spot for dim sum if you're craving some bite-sized goodness without the trek all the way to Chinatown. I've been looking for a good dim sum spot not in Chinatown and this place definitely hits the mark. The dim sum selection is extensive...from steamed dumplings to crispy spring rolls, they've got all the classics and then some. I highly recommend the BBQ pork turnover, which was flaky and filled with just the right amount of sweetness and savory flavor. It's a puff pastry with bbq pork and this was my favorite out of all the dim sum dishes ordered. Their lunch special is a solid price (for today's standards). There's a specific section on the menu that list the dishes included with the lunch special and includes rice (except for noodle dishes), appetizer, and drink. The service was friendly and efficient. I'll definitely be coming back, especially since it's so much closer than heading all the way to Chinatown. If you're in the area, this is a good new dim sum spot to check out!

We came for dim sum but was pleasantly surprised to find they do a lunch special. We ordered: - Black Bean Sauce & Pepper Chicken - Congee w. Pork & Preserved Egg - Steamed Spare Ribs - Chiu Chow Dumplings - Crabmeat Wrap w. Seaweed The dim sum was good and I'm usually not a fan of congee, but this was pretty good. Definitely recommend coming in for lunch.

Decided to try this place out after hearing good things about their dim sum. Unfortunately, none of the dishes really stood out to me--though if I had to pick a favorite, it would be the steamed BBQ pork bun. It had a good amount of meat and was moist. We ordered a variety of items including dumplings, curry short ribs, chicken feet, and beef tripe. The service, however, was very slow. Despite the restaurant not being busy at the time, our server never checked on us--not even to take our order or bring the check. The pricing was fair, but given the overall experience, I think I'll stick to Chinatown for dim sum.

Good all around. Nice to have a neighborhood dim sum place. Added a photo of the hot & spicy chicken because there wasn't a photo I could see, and the menu had no description. It was basically sautéed chicken (no breading) with lots of garlic and onions. Wasn't spicy hot, more like spices of Five spice? We also like the orange chicken (wasn't too sweet) and the pan fried noodles.

Absolutely amazing dim sum spot in Lincoln park, reasonable prices, with very fast and friendly service. We got the salt and pepper shrimp (shell on) which was outstanding. The General Tsao was better than any other in the area. A common dish done very well. The dim som amazing. The egg custard buns were great for finishing out the meal! Hot and sweet! Nice clean modern finishes, I will be coming back for these shrimps

It's funny because I have lived within a 1 mile radius of both locations in the Chicagoland area... this is easily my go-to for dim sum. The food can't be beat, and it's so so good. GET THE PEAPOD TIPS!!

Great service. Easy to reserve and plenty of seating types for different group sizes. Great for large parties too. Food comes piping hot. They also have a rotating seasonal menu. Flavors are good and nothing is too salty or not salty enough. I really liked the noodle dishes we ordered. There were a couple dishes that I didn't expect to come out deep fried since the name was unclear if it was deep fried or stir fried. The West Lake Beef soup was a huge portion. Some people felt it had too much black pepper but I enjoyed it. A great place to come for large groups that want to share many dishes.

The food here was amazing, the amount you got for the price could not be beat. The staff here is also amazing, they were really considering to all my friends and I. We had to pop in and out throughout the lunch and they were kind to us every single time. The restaurants had a ton of seating for various sizes of parties. I would recommend stopping in here.

Food: Doesn't showcase any particular region's accent yet it can be homey enough for a quick dinner or takeout. Not too oily which is always appreciated in a Chinese restaurant. Ordered some dim sum, soup, fried rice, sautéed veggie and sautéed beef. My friend said the fried rice lacked flavor but it was ok for me, although not too many scallop. The soup was the best part for me. Sautéed veggies are expensive, more than meat Service: good and attentive! Loved the tea. Ambience: kind of like small mom and pop shop.

For I am not worthy enough to eat here. This dim sum place actually tops any other dim sum place that I have been to before. I went into this place with no expectations, especially no expectations for the dim sum, as it seems more like a Chinese take out place but boy oh boy..... The softest ribs I have ever eaten. I cannot say more for you must discover for yourself. Go along my friend and enjoy...

    Rahul N.

Dim sum here was really solid. The shrimp and chive dumplings had a ton of flavor, and the steamed buns were soft and filled with sweet BBQ pork. I appreciated how nothing tasted overly greasy. We ordered a bunch of small plates and everything came out pretty quickly. The restaurant had a clean and casual feel. Our server was polite and made sure our tea was always refilled. A good spot for a relaxed dim sum meal.

Be prepared to wait a little bit for a table, or share a big one with another party at peak times. Some favorites: beef cheong fun with egg, siu mai, Singapore noodle, xo rice noodle rolls, spare ribs, pork and century egg congee. All the food has been very solid. Inside is always bustling and can be a bit crowded. Service is pretty friendly as far as Chinatown goes, and very efficient. There's a guy who works there who I think is the manager or something, because he puts in 200x effort and is always hustling. When he's not around it feels like something is missing. Prices are very reasonable and we like ordering a lot here so that we have tasty leftovers for later. This place has quite a few big tables and is good for large groups. My only nits are that very occasionally a dish or teacup will have a dirty spot, and that the bubble tea here is kind of meh. I don't remember exactly which one I ordered, but it was a little watery and lacking in flavor. It's also probably tough since they're boxed in by boba places now. Pro tip: When you first get your table, they'll ask you what kind of tea you want. If you ignore them or don't know how to answer, the default is green tea. Another one is to come at off-peak times. Not only will you get a table faster, but I think they tweak their portion sizes depending on how crowded it is. Definitely will be back! And I recommend you visit too

Imperial is the same restaurant that operated as Cai before the pandemic. It still retains its…read moreChinese name, and the Chinese signage continues to bear the name "Cai." It had been 6 years since our last visit, just as the pandemic began. Before the pandemic, our extended family gathered here every Sunday for dim sum after my mother and sister attended church in Chinatown. We also celebrated many birthdays and Mother's Day with traditional Cantonese banquet dinners. My fondest memories were my milestone birthday and my husband's birthday, when we pre-ordered a live king crab prepared three ways, plus other banquet style dishes, for each celebration. The crab legs were perfectly deep-fried, the body was delicately steamed, and the remaining meat was stir-fried with e-fu noodles. The presentation was beautiful, and every dish showcased the freshness of the crab. (Please see my posted photos.) Around the time of the ownership change before the pandemic, the friendly and accommodating manager, Elaine, left the restaurant. I was delighted when my sister told me she had recently returned. On a recent Friday, my husband, our daughter and I brought an American friend to Imperial for dim sum. Elaine immediately recognized us and gave us a warm welcome. The restaurant was bright, clean, and beautifully decorated with elegant chandeliers, just as we remembered. We chose a table for 4 near the window, and the service was friendly and efficient throughout our meal. The 4 of us shared 12 dim sum dishes. We knew we had ordered more than we could finish, but everything looked too tempting to pass up. Our favorites included the Imperial Jumbo Shrimp Dumplings (Har Gow), which were filled with plump, fresh, and flavorful shrimp, and the Pan-Fried Turnip Cake, perfectly seared with a crisp exterior (some of the Hong Kong Cantonese restaurants don't even offer this dish, which requires more preparations).  Other highlights included Chicken Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf, Beef and Enoki Rice Crepes, Crispy Shrimp Rolls, Siu Mai, and Sweet Custard Rolls. Every dish was freshly prepared and delicious. Although our friend is very familiar with Asian cuisine, this was her first visit to Imperial. She was genuinely impressed by the quality and authenticity of the dim sum and said she already planned to return with her family. Most of the dim sum we ordered was in the $6.50 (medium) to $6.75 (large) range.  Elaine generously comped our tea and gave us a 10% loyalty discount on our overall bill. Our final bill came up to $78.29 before tip, and $93.68 after.  We were happy to treat our guest and also encouraged her to take home all the leftovers, that made her really happy. As a bonus, the restaurant offers discounted parking at the nearby Chinatown Parking Lot. By scanning the restaurant's QR code with the parking app, my husband reduced the parking fee from $14.99 to just $3 for nearly three hours. It was such a happy, relaxed, and delicious lunch from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm.  (Dim sum and the lunch menu are available until 3:30 p.m.)  After such a long hiatus, it was wonderful to return and find that Imperial continues to deliver the excellent food, warm hospitality, and welcoming ambiance that made Cai our family's favorite Cantonese restaurant. We are thrilled to be back.
