    Smashed eggplant and preserved egg
    Elvin C.

We had gone to the original back in Bridgeport on Halsted but that was years ago and I believe this menu is very different. We were able to park in front of the "coming soon" market, but once that opens again consider asking the restaurant if it is ok to park behind the building where I believe the rest of the businesses in the area share parking. Quiet lunch time and it was just us but that's fine with us. Went ahead and picked the three star rec items off the menu that were interesting to us: egg with mushrooms from Anhui and the smashed eggplant with preserved egg. About the eggplant preserved egg dish - though our server gave it a mashing after bringing it to the table, it might have been difficult since things tend to overflow. So take a bit to start, then give it another mashing after there's room to spare. Has a bit of spice (it must have warned on the menu), but it is great. The egg dish - the mushroooms have a very subtle flavor. It's a $23 entree...but at least it is a good size serving. Interested in bringing more folks to share dishes so that we can try other "starred" dishes on the menu.

Great new spot in the neighborhood. The food was incredibly flavorful and came out so fast. And the staff was very helpful with finding just the right items. We had the dumplings in chili oil, cucumbers and garlic, twice cooked pork and chicken with chili pepper. Each item was done perfectly. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves Szechuan and spicy Chinese food. And being within walking distance, this will become a neighborhood staple for us.

I finally got a chance to stop in and try this spot and wow!, now wish I had done so sooner. The food was absolutely amazing...I had dumplings in chili oil, clay pot fried rice, grilled ribs, szechwan string beans, orange chicken. And it was all top notch....I now have zero reason to travel to chinatown...This spot is better than any restaurant there and I've eaten at just about every spot in Chinatown and Asia on argyle. This is now my new fav spot for Asian food. I can't wait to go back and try more dishes here. Btw the iced passion fruit tea drink here is to die for.

Amazing Szechuan food. Very flavorful and great service. A little pricey at the individual dish level but well worth it. The Chili Pepper chicken was some of the best I have had. Lightly fried, intense spice level with great flavor. Dumplings in Chili oil were also great. Cute place inside. Not much has survived in this location so hoping they can.

    La Mom Braised Pork Belly

I am from Shanghai. So I am very picky about the Shanghainese food being offered in this country. La Mom Kitchen met my expectations. We ordered braised pork belly, wonton soup , shrimp, crisp beef steak, lionhead meatball and and a bunch of sweet buns. They were all so good I felt like I was eating back in Shanghai. Highly recommend this place. Will be back soon!

The ambience here is nice. It is kid-friendly but at least they are very well mannered (or their parents taught them very well how to behave in public space). The service is the best! The food is very good. We got the vegetables (we literally have been eating seafood or meat non-stop at that point), shredded beef, and fried rice. We got the larger portion of the fried rice and that is enough for us two. The veggies are prepared/trimmed so well so only the best part was used for the dish. Even the garlic was so good. I have to stop my spouse from eating it in case of gas/acid reflux at night (part of growing old). I love the chive and my husband love the beef, which is like perfect. I was going to get the peking duck or sweet and sour pork but hubby stopped me as we have been over-ordering a lot during the trip. The fried rice is perfect and not too oily. MingHin was packed, loud, and a little chaotic. Worth it. Dim sum is an experience as much as a meal and MingHin delivers on both fronts. We ordered more than we could keep track of. Soup dumplings that immediately became the kids' personal obsession. Shu mai that hit every time. BBQ pork buns in every form they offered because obviously. Chinese broccoli to balance out the indulgence. Everything was solid, fresh, and exactly what you want from a dim sum spread. The room was packed and buzzing but the service kept up impressively. Servers were constantly circling, clearing empty plates and dishes without missing a beat. Clean and attentive even at full capacity, which is no small thing. Fair warning if you are bringing little ones: this environment is a lot. The noise, the crowd, the overwhelming parade of food arriving at the table. It's crazy it's completely died down by the time we were finished with our meal. The service was great, the interior decor was beautiful and the staff was friendly. The dim sum offered for brunch was good as well but pricey. Especially since some dishes were only offered with two pieces. If you have a party of three then you're kind of forced into buying two of the same dishes. Which is strange. Traditionally most dim sum dishes have three pieces. Rarely see 2 pieces being offered especially for double the price. We ordered their Jiaozi, Char Sui Bao, crab Rangoon, chilly chilli noodles, and their Xiang long Bao. All were great. The chilly chilli noodles is served cold and was very flavorful. The Xiang Kong Bao was amazing. The potstickers was probably my favorite dish and it's mess up char Sui Bao. We were going to order wings but they had ran out I guess by 12pm on a Sunday. I was also going to order fried rice but it wasn't offered for brunch. That alone already reduces stress. There is also plenty of seating, so we did not feel rushed or cramped. The decor is a bit dated, but nothing deal-breaking. Unfortunately, the xiao long bao did not hit the mark. The skin was too thick, and the dumplings themselves were much larger than they should be . The potstickers had the same issue, with thick wrappers overpowering the filling. The spicy wontons were also disappointing. They were mostly wrapper with very little filling, and the spicy sauce was not spicy or flavorful. It just felt like the wontons were coated in oil. On the brighter side, the oxtail casserole was my favorite dish. The flavor was there and the oxtail was nice and tender. Just a heads up, it is quite salty, so it definitely needs to be eaten with rice. The beef noodles were good for me, but my husband thought the broth was a little too sour, which he did not enjoy. Lastly, they have soy milk, which always pairs well with Chinese breakfast-style food and was a nice touch. Overall, some hits and some misses. We ordered a lot, and the food came out slowly. There was plenty of leftovers for the local folks to have for future meal or two. 3 Shrimp Toast (6 pieces each) - $26.85 - greasy but good, with the shrimp paste being a little sweet (in a good way) Noodle in Black Bean Sauce ($12.50) - this is jja jang myeon, which two of us had the previous night. It was OK, not near the top of the best I've had. Ping's Noodle Soup ($15.50) - the other classic Chinese-Korean dish, this is jjampong, a dish I've had many times. While the portions were generous, the quality of all the food has gone way down. The special family recipe of thier shrimp dish Gan Pong is nothing but fried shrimp with dried chili peppers and no flavor. The Hunan spicy beef and chicken appeared to be all globs and sticky because of excessive and over use of corn starch used during the cooking process.
