What to say about D'Corazon in THE HEART of Denver? Hubs picked this because we both adore food traditionally originating South of the border. Ironically, though, I did not have the tacos.... i know, shocker, right? I opted for the carnitas (great flavor, though some of the pork was terribly dry) and a "skinny" margarita - which was delicious!!! My better half had a crispy relleno (tasty) and a cheese enchilada (which he says was among the best he's had). Evidently, people love the green chili here and there was a little on the carnitas plate, so i did get to taste it, thankfully. It's good..... but there's nothing super special about it. All in all - this place is tasty, but to call it one of the best mexican spots in Denver? That might be a bit of a stretch once you factor in parking, the wait (we were told 45 minutes, but we actually sat at the bar), and the noise level - maybe i'm getting old but it was nearly impossible to hear any conversation unless someone was yelling or leaning so close to your ear you could feel their breath. Technically, i give D'Corazon 3.5 stars, but rounded up because 3 seemed unfair. (any one that follows me knows that i usually round down....). As such, also one thumb up on this one.... Unless you go when it's not busy, you might just as well go elsewhere. read more

Had to try this spot because it is always crowded when we walk by! The Tex mex here is delicious. It's a fun and casual atmosphere with great prices. The green chile is perfect, the salsa and chips before your meal is authentic and spicy. Adobada marinated carne asada was very tender and flavorful. Prior to last night, I would have given D'Corazon 5 stars. I read through the recent reviews and see a few others had a similar experience. We showed up a little early, but our entire party was not there yet so they wouldn't seat us. Not a problem. My husband asks "can we wait at the bar"? She answers "yes". We sit at the bar. Order drinks. My husband gets up to get one of our friends that had arrived. The bartender tells me we can't hold seats. (a) my husband was gone 2 minutes, (b) there was NO ONE else at the bar. Say that to me when there is a line at the door and all the bar seats are full. Then our entire party arrives, 8 people. There isn't a table big enough. Our friends meet us at the bar. Everyone orders a drink. The same hostess that told us we could wait at the bar, tells us to get to-go glasses for our drinks and wait outside. It was raining. There is still NO LINE at the door. My husband says "No. Why?". She says, "we are not busy, we need you to move. You are blocking the staff." Why didn't you say that rather than ask us to stand outside in the rain? There is plenty of room for us to sit and squeeze in and get out of the way. Easy. All this happened in 30 mins!! It's not like we were at the bar an hour. The table was ready in 30 mins from the time our party showed! Plus we were all drinking!! Our bar tab was $100! It's not like we were keeping the lame bartender from making his money. It was the most disrespectful, ridiculous encounter. The staff is just trying to get everyone in and out, even when there is no one to get in and out. This restaurant has lost the love for their customers. Simply rude. There are so many other restaurant options, don't need to be treated like this for a sub par taco. read more

This place used to be located at 6th Ave and simms years ago and we loved it! But it closed up and we were super sad! We stopped here for dinner and it was nice enough to eat outside on their small patio. I'm pregnant so I didn't drink but my friend got the knockout margarita which she said was worth it. Once we got our drinks. We had to wait a while and our server just never came back - I think she forgot about us. We went in to tell them we were ready to order and after that, the service was good. We were seated pretty much right away and given chips and salsa right away, what a great start! We ordered a variety of things...I'll only speak to what I ordered. I ordered the fajita burrito and made it vegetarian. The server told us that the fajita burrito was the better option compared to the burrito plate because of the larger serving size. As of covid there's no more $3 house margarita with entree special unfortunately, but I can confidently report the food tastes just as good as it did before. This time I tried takeout including a house margarita, and they did give me a freshly made one upon arriving, to ensure the ice was not melted. The house margarita is as good as I remember as well, all freshly made and not very sweet at all but much stronger than most cocktails I could order at other places. This is still my favorite spot in the Denver area for mole and margaritas. The rice and beans too are better than even authentic hole in the wall places I'm a regular at. It is excessively loud inside of this restaurant. I could hardly hear across my own table, and the waitress couldn't hear me when she was right next to me. Granted, it was a Saturday at around 4pm. They put my party of four at a tall table that felt way too small for the number of people and size of the plates. I'm a Texan, so I take my Mexican food semi-seriously. I understand that this is Denver, but I feel like I would've had better luck at a Taco Bell. The tostadas were fine, but the cheese clearly came from a bag (as in, pre-shredded). Lettuce also seemed suspiciously bag-like, and the chicken was just pulled off a rotisserie. Chimichanga was okay. Meat tasted pre-packaged and unauthentic, but maybe that's a stylistic choice. Tamales were good but a little spicy. Can't dog them for that; they were flavorful. Redeeming parts of this meal included the rice & beans as well as the salsa. The salsa was spicy and fresh, and definitely some of the best I've had. Unfortunately, the chips and salsa didn't come out until after my drinks got here. The reviews claimed that the chips and salsa practically sat down with you, but they seemingly hit traffic. A couple was making out at the bar which was weird, but they can't help that. I've never quite understood the hype around D'Corazon, but the reviews speak for themselves. There are other places in town I've found to have more flavor and better quality - but it's not like D'Corazon is bad by any stretch of the imagination. They're good, and definitely worth a stop. They've got a wide menu, always packed tables, treat their staff incredibly well, and the food is always consistently solid. I'm a big fan of their carnitas, the spicy queso con carne, and Chile rellenos. Oh and with a pretty wide margarita selection you'll find something you love. Their rice and beans is a little below average to my taste, they feel exactly like anything you'd get at any other restaurant (maybe that's the point?) but at least you know you aren't getting anything worse than anywhere else. The owner was nice enough to walk me through the menu to help me make a decision. I decided to go with the burrito especial with carne asada. This dish comes out on a plate with a burrito topped with swimming in their sauce, sour cream, and guacamole. The meat was cooked perfectly, had a slight fried crunch outside with a soft tender inside, full of flavor. The blend of all the fixings made each bite so juicy and moist, had me cleaning up my plate, leaving nothing behind. Their salsa is addicting. Leaning towards the spicy side, paired with chips, had ordering an extra basket of chips and refill of salsa. Margaritas were under $4 with a purchase of a meal, and they were tasty and strong. Being from Texas we're pretty picky about our Mexican food. So when we travel out of state we rarely try Mexican food. However D'Corozon proved that you can have good Mexican food and salsa in Colorado. The mole enchiladas were some of the best I've had anywhere. The salsa was top notch, spicy and tasty.
