I heard that D'carlos had changed hands so I thought I would give it a try. I went for lunch by myself on a Saturday. The restaurant was slow so I sat in the bar area to eat. I find that a steakhouse should have great steaks and burgers. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries, when the ticket is for one person there is no reason for the food not to be hot!! The flavor of the food was lacking. This place could not even get to mediocre. I could have gone to Wendy's and paid half the price and gotten better food. Wow the waitresses are really rude! We came in on Halloween and granted, we were dressed a little riskay, the waitresses treated us like the utmost shit. It was extremely noticeable as well, they treated the other people around us reeeeeally well, but when it came to us, they were really short and Kurt. It's really sad honestly. Me and my family decided to make the trek to Ramona this weekend to visit one of our favorite restaurants. Haven't been to D'Carlos in years. First off the roads have been improved immensely making the trip more pleasant than we anticipated! D'Carlos had a recent renovation, everything looked fresh! We sat on the patio since we brought our well behaved pug! The patio is beautiful and the staff was very attentive as always. We started off with martinis and a couple of appetizers. The calamari and green beans were very good. Their ranch dressing is excellent. We had prime rib, strawberry salad, sirloin steak and shrimp scampi. Everything was delicious! Just like most restaurants these days, the prices have gone up and the quality has gone down. However, this is one of the nicest restaurants that Ramona has to offer, so it's still my go to place when family comes to town. The remodel is great, but they should have invested in providing food that doesn't look like its been made in a S&S Cafeteria or junky Vegas buffet. read more

Had lunch here with my mom and 2 children. The service was awful. We ordered right away and waited over 30 minutes for some sandwiches and chicken tenders. My son was not served with the rest of us ( a kid's hamburger meal) and he had to wait another 10 minutes for his food to come out! Finally got to try this place after driving by it dozens of times over the years. We arrived it was a full house, luckily I was able to find parking quickly.(someone left as I was pulling in). We didn't know what to expect, but if they were serving Prime Rib, that's all I was concerned about. We waited about 20 minutes before we were seated. The 13 oz large cut came with about 4 ounces of fat and gristle so its not really worth the price IMO. It didn't have much flavor and had to pepper it up a little. The sides were pretty good and sizable. My wife enjoyed her Chicken Parm and spaghetti. The place is a little noisy. They have far less expensive options on the menu I would prefer to try than ordering the Prime Rib again. read more

Amazing place, great atmosphere, best priced food in the area by far. Staff is very friendly and the stage and live music on the patio on Mondays is very nice. Love the BBQ Pork Shanks and Chicken Wings. They have flatbreads for picky little ones. Glad they are in Ramona. read more

I went to try the new breakfast menu. First off I would like to say that there was a 15 minute wait which is fine. Problem was I was a party of 2 and there was an open table for two during the entire duration of the wait. We had to wait for 2 parties of 5 to sit. Before we could be seated at the empty table. We are new to Ramona, and had my Birthday dinner tonight at D'Carlos, with my son and husband. We started off with the appetizer platter, and some Yummie sour dough bread and butter...The Platter came out fast and was hot and full of good things to eat! I ordered the medium sized Prime Rib, and a loaded baked potato.. The Prime Rib, was ordered medium rare and it was "Perfectly cooked" actually, my husband said it best.. It melts in your mouth...My son had the Ortega Burger, we enjoyed everything we ordered.. We are so happy to find a place other then fast food or Denny's that we can sit down to enjoy a meal in together in Ramona.. Instead of driving down the hill The service was great, all the girls were on it! D'Carlos, was clean and very pleasant.... We will be going back soon.... read more

Is This Place A Joke? My wife and I did not understand this place at all. We were looking for an upper scale restaurant in Ramona. ANYTHING. We had a lot of people recommend this place so gave it a shot. The food portions were small. The quality and flavor was weak and bland. The prices were OUTRAGEOUS! The service was an embarrassment as the wait staff proudly brought us our overpriced, microwave-style garbage. Are you a native from "down-the-hill"? Don't bother with this place like we did. Against my better judgement, I decided to give it another try after hearing they remodeled the place. I hoped the menu had been upgraded as well but it seemed the same to me. The decor was a whole lot nicer then what it was, and the remodel was much needed. The food was still utter crap. I started off with a ceasar salad. I've never seen a ceasar salad in a restaurant where the dressing was just poured on top and not mixed into the salad. With that being said, it was a salad and kinda hard to mess up. The dressing was definitely generic though. My girl order the fried shrimp plate. They were soggy, obviously out of a bag and not breaded In the restaurant. When she bite into the first one- massive amounts of steam came from the inside- indicating they were Microwaved. Nasty. I ordered the veal parmigiana. The veal obviously came out of a bag as well, and the sauce was freaking horrible. I honestly wouldn't have fed that, or my girls shrimp to my dog. The fresh bread while waiting for our meals was the only thing that was good, but come on- it's bread. Like the salad- how do you mess that up? If there's were a place D'Carlos would be it.... Service was crap as well and we sat at the bar! Completely outrageous. Being a Ramona Resident, your options are pretty slim- but I will for sure never step foot in this place again- not even just for a beer. A lot of native Ramonans rave about this place often(I'm not a native, just a resident). I'd venture to say those that do probably don't make it out of town too often as I've had better MRE'S in Afghanistan. Zero stars from this guy. read more

The decor is dark and crowded at times but the french onion soup more than makes up for it! The prime rib dip sandwich is great and the iced tea is huge. The food isn't bad at all, it's just not super memorable. I still eat here and will continue to do so. The newly remodeled bar is very nice and the bartender is even nicer. Yeeeeaaa, I don't know about this place. The place is somewhat divided into two sections, bar and restaurant. Because of this, I'll divide my review into two sections.There isn't a whole lot in Ramona (and we like it like this), so D'Carlos is good to visit to mix things up a bit, but this is about it. The restaurant side can get cramped and the food is adequate. The spaghetti always seems to be a little dry. The service is service. They bring your food and that's about it. I guess if you went here once a week you might get to know the waitresses, but not overly friendly. The bar, I like. Then again, I haven't really been to a bar I didn't like. The setting is comfortable and you feel like you have more space. If you go in when it's not so busy the bar tenders (usually women) are friendly and good to chat with. Summary: If you're going for the food, you'll leave full, but nothing amazing. If you just want to have drinks with friends and appetizers, then this is a great place. I wanted to go out for a steak dinner and last time we were there it was awesome. Maybe I should have Yelped that visit. But that was over a year ago. I ordered a 5oz Sirloin w veggies and baked potato and a house salad. House salad was only lettuce mostly iceberg w a few leafs of green leaf. The steak was very bland in taste ( I never use steak sauce, but I sure wished I did last night). Baked potato and veggies were fine. This is just a shame because my family and I like this place but it's really because of the staff and service we receive. So I just feel horrible doing this but I really hope the owner see's the review and will do something about it. The menu really needs a complete overhaul, for what we end up paying for our family of 4 to eat here it's just not worth it. The menu options are very dated and the recipes leave something to be desired. The food quality is poor and the flavor is so inconsistent. If it's not extremely bland then it's overly salty. The deserts are also not good on a few separate occasions we have order the eclairs or cheesecake for a Birthday or two and each time the flavor is bad- sour or nonexistent. We were all hoping after the Reopening of the Restaurant the food would have changed but it hasn't. So I hope the owners care about the food and customer feedback enough to do something about it. My family has decided not to return and I know our neighbors stopped coming here years ago for these very same reasons. Come on guys get it together! read more

This was my 2nd time at this restaurant. The first time was over priced and mediocre but I figured I would give it another shot. I ordered the seafood platter that included cod and shrimp. When it arrived there were 2 super small pieces of breaded fish that resembled frozen fish sticks and 4 breaded shrimp...for 16.50! The batter on the fish was hard and over cooked. When I broke it in half the size of the fish inside was as wide as the handle on my fork but half the length. I could buy bags of frozen fish sticks for the price of their 2 tiny pieces of fish and 4 shrimp and it just might taste better. Today was our third visit and nothing changed. $50 for my wife and I to get low-end diner quality food. My ribeye was unseasoned, undercooked, and a low quality cut full of fat and gristle. My wife's burger tasted like a grill that hadn't been cleaned in a while. The burger was $14, and they used American cheese. Seriously, American cheese. I'm giving this 1 star for service, thats about it. The place has potential, but it's dingey and run-down. The food is tasteless. Started off with calamari strips.... More like fish sticks! I had the Salmon, no flavor, just tasted like Salmon. The red "roasted potato's" were boiled, again no flavor and steam veggies could have had at least some salt and pepper. My husband had the Ribeye, it tasted like the grill, no seasoning and dry. He had the baked potato which was probably microwaved. I went for dinner with my family and was overcharged. When we brought it up to the wait staff, the manager was unavailable and the intoxicated bartender was unable to help rectify the situation. I have to drive back today to speak to the manager. We had a birthday dinner for my dad and brother. The Staff at D'Carlos went above and beyond to make the night great. Our waitress Rachael was awesome. Extra people kept getting added to our party and we needed a bigger table 2 times and they totally accommodated us with personalism and a wonderful attitude. I really did not leave that happy, the food was decent, however i was not happy with the price of it for the portion sizes that we received. At one time D' Carlo's was one of our favorite go to restaurants....very good food, steak, prime rib, salads....everything pretty spot on. But I'm sorry to say that the food quality has gone down over last couple years. The quality is just not present...it's almost like cafeteria grade now but pricier. Now steaks are routinely over-cooked or tough & soup or salad is not included with dinner yet prices are higher. I have no problem paying more but the quality has diminished, even salad dressings taste like bottled now....just not the good quality they once had....Last evening we tried again...my chicken was very dry & over-cooked. My husband ordered a lg salad for dinner & asked to have shrimp instead of the usual chicken breast..long story short, they substituted as he'd requested & we were charged an additional $11 for the shrimp. D'Carlos has the freshest salads, on a chilled plate and the ranch dressing is the best anywhere. Our kids drive an hour just to have the ranch. The Prime rib is always good, they make an excellent Philly cheesesteak and whatever soup is on the menu can always be counted on to be fresh and flavorful. It is not an upscale (uppity) steak house, but the staff is friendly and the service is good, and the place is quiet and comfortable - a very relaxed dining experience. read more
