The star of the show was definitely the chicken flauta! It had that perfect crunchy exterior and the chicken was juicy. I loved all the toppings on top that went with it to add to the flavor. The carne asada taco was solid as well. The tortilla tasted legit and the meat was seasoned well! I loved that they put guac on it. I'd say my least favorite was the beef taco. This place is absolute value! Lived in SD for 9 years definitely top favorite Mexican spot. Restaurant looks awesome interior is great simple style. The food is the best part. We were going through the Julian area from Palm Desert and we made it through the fall crowds to this delightful spot. The place was hopping yet we received our food quickly. I had the rolled tacos with chicken, guacamole and cheese. My husband had great huevos rancheros. My son really liked his carnitas burrito. Service is friendly and everyone is treated like family. My family and I are in Ramona for a soccer tournament. My son has a slight cold so before his second game of the day, I wanted him to have a soup for lunch. I ordered him the small albondigas soup and it was hooked up. Lots of meat and veggies. My son enjoyed the caldo and it def made him feel better. This was the 1st place I went out to eat when I moved to Ramona. My in-laws were trying to help start making Ramona home for me. We ordered the Large Deluxe nachos with carnitas. My brain usually doesn't make space for small details like food ordered yrs ago. The amount of carnitas on the nachos was legendary. I swore to everyone I could the entire a$$ of the pig was on those nachos. Great little family run authentic Mexican food. We stopped in for lunch and were greeted at the counter by a wonderful young lady who took our order. The food was delivered promptly and served hot and fresh. My wife had the chicken enchilada plate and I had the Chile relleno and chicken enchilada plate. Both were fantastic and so tasty. My family go to spot for quality, consistent flavorful food. I've been coming here since 1994 so I have tried pretty much everything on the menu I've only been disappointed with a couple of items that didn't have the usual consistency but that's not bad though that many years. Another thing that I think is funny is that I have to ask every single time for limes to go with the seafood tacos/burritos ect. They have told me that they are out or act put out about it. My go to has switched to the pollo asada burrito (grilled chicken). It is a large burrito for a great price. I am particualrly fond of the green salsa on top of it. My wife loves something called the AIDA burrito. I don't remeber what is in it, so just ask. This is a small business struggling to survive COVID. They have had to adjust their hours and made minimal price increases. I sure hope they can hang in there. read more

Went to La Cocina at lunchtime, and the food was really good. Ordered the dinner plate with rice and beans, and the beans were the best I have tasted in quite a while. The food was fresh and the tortillas soft and warm! The best thing was the service by those who took our order and waited on us. Friendly and helpful, and I so appreciated their making our lunch a really nice time. Busy place when stopped in for lunch.  Ordered 2 tj style tacos of carne asada and carnitas, 3 rolled tacos, and carne asada chips.  Chips and a 3 hot sauce tray are complimentary.  The sauces are decent. The rolled tacos are on the bigger side then I usually see.  They were really good.  The carne asada nachos are a good size and are really good.  Only down size was the cheese.  It reminded me of canned cheese.  Carnitas were a little dry.  Carne asada was good. Food is always amazing and I can never say anything bad about anything. The service is very fast. I could get my food less than 12 minutes with two kids and me and my wife. The ambience is very calming and I love the painted walls. There's no one yelling to get orders or that they got something wrong in their meal. Hailed as one of the best taco shops in Ramona, La Cocina does not disappoint. One of my favorite things to order here are the big, beautiful chimichangas. They are as big as my head! For $8.50 it's filled with a ton of shredded beef and cheese. After being fried it's topped with guac, sour cream, lettuce, pico, cheese, etc. I think the kitchen sink is somewhere in there too. It's a really good and huge meal, but I'm not gonna sugar coat it. The shredded beef is pretty bland. A lot of Mexican restaurants doctor up their shredded beef with onions, peppers, sometimes maters, etc. Here it's just plain beef. Another great thing to order here is the Carne Asada Quesadilla ($6.50). Sometimes I just like a simple CAQ. La Cocina packs a punch with theres... You won't be hungry for a while. It's made simply with a generous amount of good carne asada and a fairly conservative amount of cheese. Some places I go to the grease just streams out when you pick it up. All down your hands and arms and everything. Not here. This is a decent, no frills carne asada quesadilla served on a foam plate. You definitely cannot go wrong with their excellent machaca plate, served with rice & beans and warm tortillas for $8.50. It's a big league machaca plate! Definitely in the top 2 or 3 I've had in town. The service here is top-shelf and the place is run by a great family. Although you order at the counter, it feels like a sit down restaurant after that. This is my absolute go to place when I'm in Ramona. Living in San Diego there are so many Mexican food places that are great but this by far is my favorite!!!! This is such a cute family owned business with great service and delicious food. Juan is always so welcoming, friendly and provides great service!!! As for the food, my favorite plates are the two cheese enchilada special with rice and beans and the bean and cheese burrito. I've had many other options, which are all equally delicious but I tend to stick with my favs. I love the three different types of salsas they offer, especially the green sauce. The chips they serve when you order are always fresh with just the right amount of salt. My mouth waters just writing this review. Love this place!!!! read more

After a recent disappointment with the California Burrito at Lolitas in downtown SD, i was hesitant and hopeful ordering this again. La Cocina has revived my hope! Perfectly seasoned, perfectly ratioed meat to potatoes, pico di gallo and guacamole. i've seen some other yelper pictures about being "too much pico, etc" but maybe the chef was having a good day today because it was done right. My boyfriend enjoyed the breakfast burrito. Eggs, cheese, bacon or ham, potatoes and topped off with red salsa. The complimentary chips were something to be noted as well. Unlike other places, their chips had a deeper corn flavor. they were crisp and delicious but definitely different from the airy, crisp and oily chips I am used to getting at these types of establishments. They were even kind enough to refill our chip basket and give us more green salsa.. That green salsa is so good!
