Decent little eatery & one of only 3 restaurants closest to where we live if you're heading towards Julian or Ramona (though technically, Santa Ysabel extends going up to Julian, small area known as Wynola Flats has 2 restaurants & bakery on the border, other than desert, none of them have breakfast and this is where Farmhouse 78 covers it all. But be aware as most businesses out here, close early & extend 2 hours late Friday and Saturdays only. Now onto the good stuff! Breakfast is main event here on the weekends, and let me tell you will not be disappointed, but you do have to get here before they stop serving, and it is worth it! I had the biscuit, egg and gravy dish, and it was delicious! The baby cakes (which are mini cupcakes) are tasty, but not too sweet. For lunch, they have burgers sandwiches, salad, soup, etc.. And then there's also a supper menu which we haven't tried yet. But you do have to get here early if you come during the week It's busy on the weekends with locals and tourists, driving through on the weekends. They offer dessert, which is just a hard decision, because you have Julian Pies & Dudley's bakery across the way. It's a good little corner to make a pitstop anytime you feel hungry. And farmhouse. 78 offers a lot to fill you up.

We stopped here for breakfast before a day of off-roading at Anza Borrego. Excellent brunch fare and really generous portions!

We came to dine at the Farmhouse 78 around 11:15am on Sunday after the Santa Ysabel Hike. Walked in during rush hour and was greeted by the host and was immediately seated with menus! She was so nice, she fixed the bottom of the wobbly table leg. There happened to be several employees cleaning tables and refreshing ice tea refills but inconveniently only one waitress taking eleven or twelve table orders! Whoa! Not sure what was going on or why she was the only waitress but we were waiting for our order to be taken. The table next to us was waiting for a box Togo and another table asked for hot sauce. I think they were almost done with their meal 20mins when they asked the waitress again. She finally brought the bottle but didn't bother checking the bottle because it had no hot sauce in it. Empty! The table asking for the Togo box had to ask twice before she brought the box and bill! She finally came over to take our order and we asked her how her day was going and she said I am so tired and laughed. We have seen restaurants wars on cooking shows and the restaurant owner and chef say the number one thing you don't tell your customers is that you are tired. You always show customers your smiling face. Get this girl some help! Food came out cooked well and seasoned well. Turkey Club was delicious, bread itself was flat but if toasted more, and when eaten together tastes good. The Club could have went easy on the mayo. It was a bit overdressed in between the lettuce. Onion rings were an extra charge. Chocolate cookie was delicious.

BEST CARROT CAKE EVER!!!!

OMG!!!! Not only is this a beautiful drive to get here but everyone is so friendly. I have been here multiple times and I am never disappointed. On Wednesday, I decided to visit again and ordered the BBQ pulled pork sandwich. Holy crap, this I soooo good!!! Pricing is great considering how good the food is. Most importantly....the carrot cake. One slice is big enough to feed an army, not complaining of course. By far, one of the best carrot cakes I have ever had, aside from my own. Highly recommended this place. Everything on the menu is delicious!!!!

Visited 3/10/2025 My Visit to, Farmhouse 78 First this place is very clean and nice and lots of seating inside. Lots of parking next door to Don's Market Julian Pie and Dudley's Bakery. Also convenient if your heading up to Julian. The staff were extra nice and service was fast and courteous. We started with The Jumbo Chicken Wings, Naked with BBQ Sauce on the side. The wings were a pleasant surprise with a Great well seasoned Crispy Batter and nice and juicy tender and perfectly fried. 8 wings $17.00 A little pricy but a great Wing. Loretta ordered The House Chicken Pot Pie. $16.00 Different than we've had before Had a flavor like Broccoli Soup not Chicken Pot Pie Flavors. Not to my liking. I ordered The Farmhouse Cheeseburger, $19.00 Kind of overpriced for a cheeseburger but it was A decent burger with good flavor and cooked perfectly Medium Rare. Could have been bigger Juicy with a nice slaw on top. Includes a good sized order of tasty French fries . I would order again. All in all this place is a ok stop for a bite. A bit overpriced but to be expected for being a tourist Stop kind of place. I will be coming back for The Crispy Chicken Wings Soon. They were our Favorite plate of the night. Loved Them.

This was my first time in town and we came here for breakfast. My goodness the food was delicious! We were surprised it wasn't packed on a Saturday morning when we walked in. We were seated promptly by the very kind hostess. There was a beautiful piano in the restaurant that I wish someone was playing! We ordered The Farmer and the Classic Combo. The Farmer had a delicious and large home cooked buttermilk biscuit on top with a very good house made sausage gravy! It was a so good! And for the Classic Combo, I got sausage with Sunny Side Up eggs and an English muffin on the side. The sausages had great flavor and the hasbrowns were cooked so well! I also ordered a hot hocolate and it was quite large but also very delicious! When the server brought put our food she asked if we wanted yot sauce and I asked what kind they had and she named 3 and we asked for all three and she gave us an annoyed look that made us feel uncomfortable and I actually thought it was pretty rude.. she made us feel like she was fake nice to us the entire visit.. that was kind of weird but the hosted was genuinely sweet to us, she even gave us a refill on coffee and greated us even we left. The food is good, definitely worth a visit!

My half of the pulled pork sandwich and salad

We finally stopped here for a late lunch. We were the only people in the restaurant. So service was good and quick. Went with the pulled pork and fh salad. The salad was big but kinda dry. We asked for more dressing and they brought out a creamy something. It was supposed to be a vignette. The pulled pork sandwich Had a good amount of pork and very flavorful. We split this dish and there was plenty for two. Nice inside and clean. Plenty of parking outside.

Just wanna say I had one of the best meals I've had in a while with a group of friends here after a nice long hike at eagle rock. I got the champagne cream chicken (I think that's hat it was called) and it was absolutely delicious didn't know what to expect because I've never heard of champagne cream, but man was it good . The service was so great as well our server Cindy (if I'm remembering her name correctly) fully made sure we taken care of! She was so nice and was able to properly tell us all the details of the menu with ease. Thank you for the amazing time me and my friends didn't even expect!

Fiancé and I stopped by here first, as we were there for the pie next door. First off, the service is amazing, staff are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, making it so pleasant as soon as you enter. It's very clean, a beautiful open space and light. They weren't joking when they said everything is farm fresh! I ordered the Shrimp Po'Boy and boy oh boy was it delicious! My fiancé ordered the chicken fingers. Absolutely everything was perfect. The French fries: superb! Food is definitely chef's kiss. We shall return and try other things on the menu. Please visit this place whenever you come for pie, or just because, they are great!! Prime location and wonderful staff.

Great food and huge portions. The restaurant is very inviting and clean and service was very good too. When the platters arrived our whole group was just awe-struck with how much food they had, especially the ham steak. Worth the stop during our visit to Julian.

We were not disappointed at all. Upon arriving, there was a musician playing, and they did seat us off to the right so we could not see but could hear still. There is outdoor and indoor seating, but at the time we came it appeared that the outdoor was reserved for an event. We happily sat inside! Having met Jeremy's parents earlier in the day who also recommended his restaurant, and they were just lovely, we had hoped to possibly meet Jeremy too. I wanted to try everything, but we opt on getting a few dishes to share. Our son ordered the filet mignon and they were able to substitute mashed potatoes for fries. Amazing!! The mac & brisket appetizer appeared to be the highlight and specialty and we just had to order it. Every bite was cheeesy and delicious with the brisket very moist. We couldn't go without ordering the Brussels sprouts and it had a twist with ponzu sauce and pineapple. Definitely a different take and I thoroughly enjoyed the taste. Every bite was foodgasmic and I highly recommend!!! I knew coming here that some Yelpers have experienced wavering in quality, so glad we did not experience that at all. As of the date that we came, we understood that the restaurant had been listed for sale, not sure if Jeremy sold it yet or not. I hope not, we plan on coming back this summer!

I went with the Nickel Pickle burger that most seemed to like and I have to say was pretty damn good. Sitting on a bun that fit the burger well (sometimes the burger is too small for the bun an visa versa) built on a layer of pickles and nickel special sauce sits a quality burger patty topped with a slice of cheddar, tomato, and a bed of arugula or what appears to be a spring mix of lettuce. All in all it worked. While savoring each bite I washed it down with a Russian River Blind Pig. I was disappointed they were out of Pliny the Elder but BP is a good second choice. The beer list is legit by the way; local craft beers including Nickel Brewery in Julian well represented. I'll be back, maybe bring the family and give the menu a proper go.

The burgers were very tasty, the fries were excellent, and the relaxed atmosphere near the lake made for a really enjoyable stop. What made the visit especially memorable was our server, Will. After placing our order, I realized I had forgotten my wallet, which created a stressful moment as I tried to figure out where I might have left it. When I shared this with Will, he asked if I was married, which I shared that I am unfortunately going through a divorce. He responded with genuine empathy, sharing that he had also gone through difficult times himself. He suggested ways we could work out payment, encouraged me not to worry, and allowed us to continue enjoying our meal while I sorted it out. That level of compassion, kindness, and understanding made a real difference. I was able to arrange payment over the phone, my daughters avoided what could have felt like an embarrassing moment, and by the end what could have been an awkward moment turned into a positive memorable experience. Great food is always appreciated, but great service is what people remember -- and Will absolutely made this visit stand out. Highly appreciated.

The chicken is insanely crisp on the outside, juicy and clean on the inside--not greasy, not heavy, just done right. The kind of crunch that actually means something. The slaw brings freshness and balance, the bun is soft but holds up, and every bite feels intentional. But what really sets this place apart is the sourcing. Everything is local. You're not eating some mass-produced, freezer-to-fryer shortcut--you're eating ingredients that came from nearby farms, raised and prepared with care. That shows up in the flavor, the texture, and honestly how you feel after. It hits that rare sweet spot: indulgent, but still clean. Even the fries--simple, crispy, not drowning in oil--feel like they belong next to it, not just an afterthought. This is what food should be. Real ingredients, done well, no corners cut. Comfort food that doesn't leave you wrecked. Local. Thoughtful. Straight up dialed.
