Burger with bacon added and fries
Sara A.

My friend and I stopped in for lunch and both had burgers. I added bacon to mine which was an extra three dollars. Both of us really enjoyed the food, burger was great, fries were delicious too. My friend got the potato salad which was bomb. Service was friendly and fast, the restaurant was very clean spacious and well air-conditioned, which was nice on such a hot day. The portions were so big that I had half my food left over for dinner! The only thing I will say was a little bit pricey for something so simple with tax and tip. It was over $30 for my burger other than that we really did enjoy the time and the food They're located on the main road in their own shopping center with plenty of parking so it was really convenient to get in and out, and we didn't have to wait at all for a table.

Fish and chips and prime rib stroganoff

I took my boys to a late dinner on a Saturday night. We reviews theme prior to arriving at D'Carlos and got there at 8:20pm (they closed at 9). Quickly put in an order of potato skins and a few minutes later we put the rest of our order in. The bread and butter to start was perfect and when the potato skins came out, they were some of the best I've had. My prime rib stroganoff was outstanding and a huge portion, which made for a great lunch the next day. My boys got the fish and chips and it was just meh. I wouldn't order it again and they only ate a little and we ended up tossing the rest. What really stood out was the phenomenal service from our waitress Kaden. She was so kind and patience and made us feel very welcome even when showing up towards the end of the evening. We will definitely be back to try some other items on the menu! Thanks for the great dinner date with my boys!

The young hostess was very nice and smiles a lot. Our server came to take the order, deliver the food and bring the check. She never stopped by to check on us or offer refills. Wife had the prime rib. Cut was thick. She said it had good flavor. Grandson had Mac and cheese. I had the chicken Parmesan. Chicken was grilled chicken with a lot of cheese melted on it, very little sauce and a lot of spaghetti noodles. Wasn't that tasty. Would we come back? No. Prices are high, food wasn't that good and it is cold in here.

with some of the most expensive prices in the Ramona, this place can be a hit or miss. They have plenty of tables inside. They have a beautiful patio outside, and the coziest bar that actually has booths! The potato skins are so good (when they're actually cooked all the way through) I do warn about their salads though. Once and never again. The meat that came on it was sweating and looked like it came from a lunchbox pack. The cheese was a craft single cut into slices?? gross If you're looking for a good drink and an amazing conversation go and Sandy is working. She comes up with the most amazing drinks and is the most down-to-earth person. All in all, I love going to d'Carlos. You just have to know what to order and hope you're ordering it on the right night.

Been going to D'Carlos for 32 years for the Prime Rib. Treated myself after the Pandemic when they were up and running again, to a full cut of it. Service is still great. Blue Cheese Salad dressing (homemade) is still awesome. But the meat? Someone gave Chef a new toy, a sous vide bath, and he used it on the prime rib. Sous vide is wonderful, especially for poultry, pork and fish, but beef, like prime rib, rib eye, etc. should only ever be grilled. Sure, the meat comes out in a beautiful uniform pink from edge to edge and looks delicious, but the different method for thermal leaves the muscle fibers texture the consistency of smoked meat-great for BBQ sandwiches. Prime Rib loses it's juiciness and isn't supposed to be developings flakes (see pictures). The only beef that should enter a bath is a less tender cut like chuck steak which is then used in a stew or other similar dish. I haven't been back to D'Carlos since, til tonight. I was jonesing for prime rib, and too far away from Jimmy's Restaurant off of Mission Gorge (prime rib there is to die for and humongous portions of everything on the plate). I visited Ramona's Barn (no prime rib) and Up The Hill Grill (prime rib sammies only), so I finally went to D'Carlos. I asked waitress if she could check with chef that the prime rib was not sous vide. She said he offered to make Delmonico style for me, so I ordered the large cut. I should have realized immediately it was still sous vide, when the meat plate came out in about 7 minutes. Anyone who loves their steak knows that 7 minutes is about the length of time to cook one side of a steak perfectly before flipping over to another 7 minutes on the other side. What Chef had done was take a sous vide steak and maneuver it a few minutes on the grill on each side to partially caramelize the fatty edges. The first bites tasted good (nothing better than grilled and crusty prime edges), but as soon as the extremely thin crust (almost like painted on) was gone, I hit the sous vide layer, so mouthfeel and taste weren't that good. It wasn't inedible, but basically I paid 54 dollars for delicious blue cheese dressing. Again, service was great (my waitress and other staff were attentive) and their homemade blue cheese dressing still makes my mouth happy, but will someone take Chef's wand and waterbath away from him so he can't screw up the prime rib? Or make him take a cut of his sous vided prime rib down to Jimmy's/Mission Gorge, have him purchase the prime rib there, and then taste comparison both out in the parking lot so he will finally understand how he's abusing the meat? Thank you. Till then, when I'm on the prowl for prime rib, it's a long drive to Jimmy's in Mission Gorge, but that's were I'm going. Also, might mention that small, thin, oval plates (not the regular round ones used for the other diners who had the chicken parmesan) are not conducive to cutting and dipping one's prime rib. Not enough room for the cut, and the little sauce cups were angled sideways. And for gosh sakes, at least steam the rolls. They were like opening the package up at Staters and taking bites in the aisle. Cold and already hardening. C'mon D'Carlos. Your food used to be awesome, so what has happened? Now it's like eating gourmet food, but prepared in a school cafeteria, and yet you are charging premium prices. You need to fix your kitchen. I used to take whole groups to D'Carlos when they came up to Ramona. Now I would be embarrassed. So should be D'Carlos.

The French onion soup is exactly like it was made to be it is amazing as well as the server we had she was awesome, nice friendly and attentive. There is indoor, outdoor and bar seating all in a rustic cowboy ambiance.

That commitment to quality and sustainability is commendable and something more restaurants should strive for. The staff is knowledgeable, and it's refreshing to see a restaurant that cares about where its food comes from. Unfortunately, that attention to ingredient sourcing seems to stop when it comes to cooking oils. Many of the menu items are prepared with soybean oil, which was disappointing given the otherwise high-quality and health-conscious image of the restaurant. Soybean oil is highly processed and contains large amounts of omega-6 polyunsaturated fats. While omega-6 fats are essential in moderation, excessive consumption relative to omega-3 intake has been associated with increased inflammation in some research. Soybean oil is also more susceptible to oxidation when exposed to high cooking temperatures, potentially producing compounds that some studies suggest may contribute to oxidative stress. In addition, many health-conscious consumers actively avoid industrial seed oils such as soybean, corn, and canola oils in favor of alternatives like olive oil, avocado oil, butter, or tallow. I would gladly give Marinade on Main a higher rating if they aligned their cooking oils with the same local, high-quality standards they apply to the rest of their ingredients. Switching to avocado oil or olive oil or beef talo would be a welcome improvement and would better match the restaurant's otherwise impressive commitment to quality. * also loose the standard strip of high fructose sodas and provide more natural optikns of drinks ...

We escaped today from the flatlander norms of North County and ventured up a path (State Hwy 78) that we hadn't trekked for a number of years. I think this is the only town with a Bol Weevil hamburger joint. We initially sought after and found it. We just couldn't bring ourselves to having lunch there. Too many good spots up here in Ramona. Searching Yelp, we found this place and decided to try it based on the large menu. We had a couple of delicious sandwiches, but I could see as the plates came outta the kitchen, I should've ordered a burger. They really looked awesome, ; and quite the variety, vbut we were already elbows into our plates along with house-made offerings. We also had the excellent ranch dressing that was offered along with the good onion rings. There are plenty of things to look at inside and out, as there are very much a hodgepodge of collections over the years. This place will be our visiting spot next time. CritDicks

There was also a younger guy there who had his back to the door when someone came in did not greet him just told him to wait. Someone would be with him then left into the kitchen. He did come back out told the customer, sit anywhere. seriously disappointed, do better.

My husband and I were returning from a hiking weekend with our two doggies when we searched for a pet-friendly place to have lunch. Google suggested Farmhouse 78, and we are so glad it did. At first, I didn't notice the outdoor patio, so I went inside to ask. From the moment I walked through the door, every employee was incredibly friendly and welcoming. They made me feel valued as a customer and even offered to let us dine inside with our dogs. Out of respect for other guests, we chose to sit outside on their lovely patio. Everything about this place was wonderful--the cleanliness, the atmosphere, the service, and how quickly our food arrived. Most importantly, the food was absolutely delicious. My husband had the pork sandwich, and I ordered the cheeseburger with French fries. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and homemade. When I went inside to pay, I had the pleasure of meeting Cyndie at the register. I told her how impressed we were with our experience, and she was just as warm and friendly as everyone else we encountered. If you're visiting Santa Ysabel, do yourself a favor and stop by Farmhouse 78. Great food, wonderful people, and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be back!

I even brought friends who had never been here before, thinking it could become one of our regular stops when we're out hitting the trails. Instead, it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth... and not just from the food. Waitress: Where do I even start. She claimed she was hard of hearing--but her attitude spoke loud and clear. Tossing menus on the table, aggressively slamming salsa down, and getting snarky over being off because our party count was off by one person. Seriously? It took two seconds to adjust the table, but apparently that was just too much. Yes, she technically did her job... but with such a cold, unwelcoming, and rigid attitude that it made the whole experience uncomfortable. What really stood out? We were there first and ready to order, yet she chose to take care of every smaller table that came in after us. No communication, no "I'll be right with you," nothing. Just ignored. Basic courtesy clearly isn't part of the service here. And trust me--I used to be a waitress. I handled large parties all the time and actually communicated with my tables. It's not that hard. Honestly, if gratuity hadn't already been forced onto the bill, she would've gotten $0. The only pleasant person we encountered was the busser--quick, friendly, and actually seemed like he wanted to be there. Maybe swap their roles, because he outperformed her by a mile. Food: Let's talk about the food... if that's what we're calling it. Everything came out cold. Not "warm-ish," not "could be hotter"... just straight up cold. It felt like our plates were sitting under a heat lamp for way too long before making it to the table. One "white" friend asked to have her meal fixed--fine, no problem. But when another "Hispanic" friend asked the same thing? Suddenly there was attitude, menu slamming, and mumbling under her breath. So... what exactly was the difference? Why the inconsistency and hostility? If the kitchen is that backed up, maybe management should step in and help instead of letting food die in the window. Just a thought. Final Thoughts: This place had potential... but that waitress single-handedly ruined it. We'll be taking our group (and our money) elsewhere--Dudley's Bakery is looking like a much better option moving forward. I usually bring large groups out here, so this isn't a small loss. Unfortunately, if this is the level of service they're okay with, this place isn't going to improve anytime soon. At this point, it's less "Farmhouse charm" and more "junky barn energy."

The lighting could be better, but overall the atmosphere was calming and fit the theme of a poke joint. The staff were super friendly, professional, patient, and willing to help. Whenever I had a question, they answered it to the best of their abilities. Since this was my first time, they walked me through the ordering process. You grab a paper slip and highlight what you want in your poke bowl, this goes for the drinks as well. If you don't want to create your own bowl, you can select an option off of the menu as well. After highlighting what I wanted, I handed it back to the staff and they made sure everything on it was correct before proceeding to make it. Simple and effective, especially for someone like me who deals with anxiety, because I can just take my time and go off to the side. The time it took to make the dish was a bit long, but there were only two workers and the restaurant seems to be family owned. I didn't mind waiting. The poke bowl itself is the most visually appealing poke bowl I have seen so far in SD county. They offer quite a bit of protein and they don't hold back with making sure the container is packed. After shaking it up, it was time to dig in. The rice was cooked perfectly, wasn't mushy and it wasn't hard. The vegetables were fresh, especially the ginger. The sauces were a nice touch and brought everything together. Not one piece of the dish outshined the other, everything worked well together in flavor and texture. My only concern was the protein. About 1/4 of the fish was a bit chewy and had a weird taste, signifying that they weren't as fresh. The other 3/4 of the fish was tender and melted in my mouth as they offered great flavor. It's almost as if maybe older bits of fish were mixed with fresher bits. I didn't feel sick or anything, but it is something crucial that every fish spot needs to be careful with. My drink, Tiger Tea, was great. I purposely asked for 25% sweetness and I could taste the boldness of the tea. The cream, which I believe is coconut, added a nice smooth texture and it didn't overpower the flavor of the tea. It was refreshing, however I think a couple cubes of ice were needed to make the tea colder and keep it cold longer. Overall, Poké Oka may be small but they take pride in their food. The restaurant offers a great variety of dishes and the pricing is fair when it comes to poke. Poké Oka is definitely with other top poke joints in SD county. I will be coming back. To my knowledge, no military nor first responder discount offered.
