Fish and chips and prime rib stroganoff
Tiffany M.

I took my boys to a late dinner on a Saturday night. We reviews theme prior to arriving at D'Carlos and got there at 8:20pm (they closed at 9). Quickly put in an order of potato skins and a few minutes later we put the rest of our order in. The bread and butter to start was perfect and when the potato skins came out, they were some of the best I've had. My prime rib stroganoff was outstanding and a huge portion, which made for a great lunch the next day. My boys got the fish and chips and it was just meh. I wouldn't order it again and they only ate a little and we ended up tossing the rest. What really stood out was the phenomenal service from our waitress Kaden. She was so kind and patience and made us feel very welcome even when showing up towards the end of the evening. We will definitely be back to try some other items on the menu! Thanks for the great dinner date with my boys!

The young hostess was very nice and smiles a lot. Our server came to take the order, deliver the food and bring the check. She never stopped by to check on us or offer refills. Wife had the prime rib. Cut was thick. She said it had good flavor. Grandson had Mac and cheese. I had the chicken Parmesan. Chicken was grilled chicken with a lot of cheese melted on it, very little sauce and a lot of spaghetti noodles. Wasn't that tasty. Would we come back? No. Prices are high, food wasn't that good and it is cold in here.

with some of the most expensive prices in the Ramona, this place can be a hit or miss. They have plenty of tables inside. They have a beautiful patio outside, and the coziest bar that actually has booths! The potato skins are so good (when they're actually cooked all the way through) I do warn about their salads though. Once and never again. The meat that came on it was sweating and looked like it came from a lunchbox pack. The cheese was a craft single cut into slices?? gross If you're looking for a good drink and an amazing conversation go and Sandy is working. She comes up with the most amazing drinks and is the most down-to-earth person. All in all, I love going to d'Carlos. You just have to know what to order and hope you're ordering it on the right night.

Been going to D'Carlos for 32 years for the Prime Rib. Treated myself after the Pandemic when they were up and running again, to a full cut of it. Service is still great. Blue Cheese Salad dressing (homemade) is still awesome. But the meat? Someone gave Chef a new toy, a sous vide bath, and he used it on the prime rib. Sous vide is wonderful, especially for poultry, pork and fish, but beef, like prime rib, rib eye, etc. should only ever be grilled. Sure, the meat comes out in a beautiful uniform pink from edge to edge and looks delicious, but the different method for thermal leaves the muscle fibers texture the consistency of smoked meat-great for BBQ sandwiches. Prime Rib loses it's juiciness and isn't supposed to be developings flakes (see pictures). The only beef that should enter a bath is a less tender cut like chuck steak which is then used in a stew or other similar dish. I haven't been back to D'Carlos since, til tonight. I was jonesing for prime rib, and too far away from Jimmy's Restaurant off of Mission Gorge (prime rib there is to die for and humongous portions of everything on the plate). I visited Ramona's Barn (no prime rib) and Up The Hill Grill (prime rib sammies only), so I finally went to D'Carlos. I asked waitress if she could check with chef that the prime rib was not sous vide. She said he offered to make Delmonico style for me, so I ordered the large cut. I should have realized immediately it was still sous vide, when the meat plate came out in about 7 minutes. Anyone who loves their steak knows that 7 minutes is about the length of time to cook one side of a steak perfectly before flipping over to another 7 minutes on the other side. What Chef had done was take a sous vide steak and maneuver it a few minutes on the grill on each side to partially caramelize the fatty edges. The first bites tasted good (nothing better than grilled and crusty prime edges), but as soon as the extremely thin crust (almost like painted on) was gone, I hit the sous vide layer, so mouthfeel and taste weren't that good. It wasn't inedible, but basically I paid 54 dollars for delicious blue cheese dressing. Again, service was great (my waitress and other staff were attentive) and their homemade blue cheese dressing still makes my mouth happy, but will someone take Chef's wand and waterbath away from him so he can't screw up the prime rib? Or make him take a cut of his sous vided prime rib down to Jimmy's/Mission Gorge, have him purchase the prime rib there, and then taste comparison both out in the parking lot so he will finally understand how he's abusing the meat? Thank you. Till then, when I'm on the prowl for prime rib, it's a long drive to Jimmy's in Mission Gorge, but that's were I'm going. Also, might mention that small, thin, oval plates (not the regular round ones used for the other diners who had the chicken parmesan) are not conducive to cutting and dipping one's prime rib. Not enough room for the cut, and the little sauce cups were angled sideways. And for gosh sakes, at least steam the rolls. They were like opening the package up at Staters and taking bites in the aisle. Cold and already hardening. C'mon D'Carlos. Your food used to be awesome, so what has happened? Now it's like eating gourmet food, but prepared in a school cafeteria, and yet you are charging premium prices. You need to fix your kitchen. I used to take whole groups to D'Carlos when they came up to Ramona. Now I would be embarrassed. So should be D'Carlos.

Great local spot for groups and comfort food. Our kids like the fettuccini Alfredo so we split that between them.

The French onion soup is exactly like it was made to be it is amazing as well as the server we had she was awesome, nice friendly and attentive. There is indoor, outdoor and bar seating all in a rustic cowboy ambiance.

Clam Chowder Only on Friday

Visited 8/20/2022 Well it's been awhile since I've been here. Not a lot of changes. Nice and clean with very friendly service. The menu has changed slightly but for the most part only slightly higher prices like everywhere. Tried the Clam Chowder today and it was not bad. Lots of clams, Potatoes and other good stuff. Not bad at $6.95 for a large bowl. The Philly Sandwich was Outstanding in flavor and The Reuben Grill Sandwich was also good but a little greasy on the outside. Sadly The Thousand Island Dressing was spoiled and sour. To Bad as the sandwich was on point. Will try dinner sometime. This place is 3 1/2 Stars not quite 4 Still not bad for Ramona with so little sit down restaurants available.

Food is super expensive, service is pretty slow and when they took the sign down with the horses on it, it just killed everything.

The smaller indoor space and shaded patio have a modern rustic cozy vibe that fits Ramona perfectly. We were seated and ordered quickly despite it being busy, but the food took about 40 minutes, which felt excessive. Thankfully, everything was delicious! We had the pulled pork sandwich, mac and cheese, and chicken sandwich, all fresh and flavorful, with generous adult portions. Prices were fair overall, but the kids' meals cost almost as much as the adult meals with much smaller portions. Next time, I'd order an adult meal and take leftovers home. Definitely recommend for a delicious farm-to-table meal

Metal chairs and wooden booth/bench that lines the front and side of the restaurant. Pillows are spread across the booth/bench for those needing a little back support. We were seated quickly and our waitress addressed us promptly, which is much appreciated. I ordered the nonalcoholic blackberry mojito. It took all of my might not to drink it all at once. So refreshing, not overly sweet. We ordered the Brussel sprouts appetizer, which appeared faster than we had expected. Yummy I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with the fried chicken. He ordered the burger. Fettuccine light but with excellent flavor, the fried chicken was moist and not over coated. The burger was oozing with beef juices. Although his mashed potatoes were a bit dry, the gravy was very tasty. I'd say the atmosphere is casual, but not shorts and tank casual. Definitely not business casual or dressy. The staff were all so kind and checked in on us and attended to our needs when requested. Go in and check it out for yourself, you won't regret it. It's a great place but one drawback is the inside dining seating isn't comfortable for "lazy" dining (as you don't want to sit on the seats long)

I had been here once before and decided to have breakfast here. It was early, still dark when I happened to find street parking. There was a sign that said there was parking in the back but since I was alone I opted to park in the front. I walked in and was greeted by Nikki. She was friendly and very helpful. I decided to go with the Elevated Avo with Sourdough Toast w/ scrambled eggs and requested the feta cheese on the side. I also ordered to go a small order of biscuit and gravy for the next morning. I was not in the mood for cooking since I was going to be quite busy with my camping group. The Avo toast was delicious! I ordered a side of the red pickled onion that was on the toast to go as well! Put it on some salad! I had a cup of coffee to go along with my breakfast. The food and coffee was nice and hot for this perfect chilly morning. I felt cozy in the restaurant. Even though it was gloomy outside it was a bright atmosphere inside. I would definitively come back and enjoy another meal here. Great service, good food and close to camp!

The young lady server was reasonably friendly and helpful. Loved the new bar area. The vibe overall was clean, fresh, and inviting.

Now that we live in Ramona, we have been venturing out and trying the different eating establishments. This place is like Cheers, where everyone knows your name. It has a great vibe and decent prices. The plates are HUGE and definitely shareable. I have been here a few times now, and I always really like what I order, with one exception: I am not a fan of their biscuits. I have tried on a few occasions and they do not do it for me. Today's was really not palatable. You can tell it was overworked and not cooked properly. You could still taste raw flour. It stuck to the plate it was on; that's how poorly cooked it was. On the happy side, we had great breakfasts. I ordered something different today, their Au Gratin omelette. It tasted great, but did not taste anything like Au Gratin potatoes. I would order it again. We also had chicken-fried steak with gravy and a chorizo scramble. Both were tasty and super filling. I understand their cinnamon rolls are out of this world. Since I rarely eat sweet things, I have yet to take a bite. Hoping next time I go out with friends, someone orders one. There is outdoor seating, and the establishment is dog-friendly. So bring Fido along and enjoy a meal. *Please excuse the photo. I forgot to take one before I started eating my omelette. You can see how dry the biscuit was in the next photo.
