It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. First of. The silverware and cups were dirty and didn't seem to have been cleaned properly. The salt shaker was old since it was rocked up inside. The food was bland hence I had to add extra salt. The service was good that's why I gave it 3 stars instead of two. We sat out on the patio where there were many flies on our food. There was a dog with a patron and when it shaked the dirt off it's fur it created lots of dust particles that I'm sure landed on people food. The only thing good was the French Toasts. read more

A local recommended this place! Looks so cute and homey on the outside... it looked packed, but we were sat and attended right away! They work quick and in a great manner. We were iffy on going in because other local places weren't very accepting of outsiders/tourists. But the Cutthroat Cafe welcomed us warmly and made us feel at home. Everyone talked to us, gave us recommendations on what to do locally, gave us some history on the town, and helped us really enjoy our meal. The food was great!!! The cook (and person in charge i believe) made us Mickey Mouse pancakes once he found out we are from FL. He came out and greeted us soo kindly.. as well as every single person working there! Also, the green chile smother they put on the eggs is one of a kind. All in all, an amazing place and way to start your day when visiting or just passing by. This was our second stop at the cafe. The first time it took us about 2 hours to get our food and we said we'd never go back. We gave them another chance yesterday and it took us 1 hour and 45 minutes to get our mediocre meals. My husband's cheeseburger was about the size of a 50 cent piece. His burger was delivered first and he was finished before I got my salad and my son got his sandwich. The waitress at one point told us we had 10 minutes left before our food was served....we timed it, it was 25 minutes after she said 10. I see a lot of great reviews so perhaps breakfast is what you need to order but be prepared to not get anything done for the day. read more

It is not an eye catching place, as the facility is across the street. But the food and service is always great. It has a very warm personality to it that is very difficult to get and even harder to keep. I live up here and am VERY pleased this is only a 10-12 minute drive away! We were out for a little drive and found ourselves hungry...and in Bailey. We saw the Cutthroat Cafe and noticed that they had outdoor seating, which was what we were looking for since we had our dog with us. Things are different these days, so you are asked to read the menu before entering and order at the counter. They would then assign a table to ensure social distancing. It worked fine and we even bought T-shirts! Service was very friendly and on point, they even provided water and a bowl for the dogs that were on the patio. The food was excellent and portions plentiful. We both had the Longhorn and were both very happy with our meal. The place was also very clean, and all tables and chairs were thoroughly wiped down between customers. This is how it should be anyway, but these days it is especially important and seeing it was appreciated. Staff and customers were all wearing masks except when eating, so that was great as well. If you find yourself in Bailey, give this place a shot! Great food and even better people! read more

I came to Cut Throat Cafe to read a bit and enjoy some pie. The owner was yelling at one of his employees for a solid 10+ minutes in the middle of the cafe because the kid had bailed on a shift on their biggest day of the year. However, if you want to chew a 17-year-old kid out and treat him as a subhuman, please do it out back instead of displaying cruelty in front of the patrons. I wish that kid had stood up for himself and walked out. If I hadn't already ordered, I certainly would have. Which would have saved me from eating some pretty terrible pie. The only things saving this cafe from a one-star review are the friendly waitstaff, the fellow customers, and fish-joke decor. read more

This is an updated review. For those of you who haven't stopped there for lunch or dinner, I will definitely say it's worth your effort. Their "Longhorn Burger" is the burger which will make burger fans pant out its name at night. It's a burger smothered in their homemade green chili with lots of added cheese and onions. Sinfully delicious! This burger is the one reason why I don't complain if I miss their cutoff for breakfast. It's solidly good for a Southwestern burger connoisseur. If you are there early and wanting breakfast, you really can't go wrong with their breakfast menu. They serve it until noon during the week and 2pm on the weekends. So, why four stars and not 5? Well, while their breakfasts and Longhorn Burger are great, some of their other food is less so. I'm remarkably unaccustomed to chicken fried steak coming with anything other than homemade cream gravy. The brown gravy it comes with is "meh." Many of their other dishes are not as good as what I consider "home style" but it IS the joint for breakfasts, burgers and maybe a pie for dessert. It may not be fancy but is a good, friendly place that gets a solid 4 stars for having this quality in the mountains. read more

Ok so we got there after 2 hours in 285 traffic! Yuck! And I was so disappointed because we arrived there at 2:10pm and breakfast was over at 2pm. I asked the waitress to make sure and she said yes. then lo and behold, Chip's head (I think it was him) pops over the wall and says last call for breakfast! WAHOO! Breakfast is my fave! I was driving back to Denver from Breckinridge with my wife & 2 kids & as it was 2 PM & we hadn't had lunch we decided to stop & eat. The restaurant has a lot of covered outdoor seating, but as it was raining & windy we decided to eat inside. The diner had 2 other seated parties & was filling take out orders as well. The cafe looks like it used to be a home that has been converted to a diner. We were seated immediately by a very sweet young lady who told us it was her 2nd day on the job. We ordered "typical" diner food ( cheese burgers with fries, etc.) within 10 minutes after being seated. Our drinks came out within 5 minutes. We then proceeded to wait 45 minutes to get our food! Our waitress refilled my Coke 5 times & after 20 minutes I started asking her to check on the status of our order. When our food finally came out at 3 PM, after I asked for napkins & silverware, we were able to eat. The food was served hot, so it hadn't been made and then forgotten. The quality of everyone's dish was like you'd expect from a good diner. It just took forever to get it! read more

We took a roadtrip to Fairplay one Saturday morning and on our way back hit the Cut Throat Cafe for some lunch. I liked the simplicity of it - good location and also the option to have breakfast up to 2:00 PM on a Saturday is a good thing. One of the BEST grilled cheeses I have had in a long time. Gooey, cheesy, buttery goodness with crisp edges on the bread = BIG YUM! The french fries were also crisp and thinner than the usual fry. My husband rocked the fried chicken sandwich - 2 large chicken strips in a bun with lettuce, tomato, pickles and mayo. Looked really good! Service was also super chill and friendly. My daughter's name is Bailey, so we made an obligatory drive out to this town ONLY for the purchase of a "Bailey, Co." t-shirt and a couple cool photo ops with her in front of the city sign. so we were happy to wander into The Cut Throat Cafe and find yummy, home-made food at a super-reasonable price. Thick, juicy well-prepared burgers are the highlight here, as is the green-chili sauce that tops the open faced Longhorn Burger. really delicious and less than seven bucks. it's a no brainer. word at the counter was that breakfast is the main draw at cut throat, and as i recall, it's served all day--which is a bonus to any diner, in my mind. the desserts are all homemade and looked simply stellar, but we'd already gotten a craving for malt shakes from the little gift shop / soda shop across the alley, so we meandered over there and were happy with our chocolate malts. still, if i find myself in Bailey again, i'm going for the pie. thumbs up. read more

When you are here, Chip and his staff make you feel like family. The prices are amazing, and food is very good, and their green chili is some of the best in all of Colorado. The best part is they serve breakfast all day, and their breakfast is the best thing about this place. If you are passing through Baily, this is the place to eat. Or if you live in Baily as some of my family does, then this is where you go. While the food is very good, this is not a fancy gourmet restaurant, its more of a greasy spoon, but if you are in the mood for greasy spoon type food, the Cutthroat Cafe is heads and tails above the rest. read more

We're not cheating on our favorite waitress; we just ended up here instead;) It looks like a really old house that was converted into a diner, so the layout isn't exactly efficient; not a whole lot of elbow room. If you don't love noisy areas, don't sit at the bar. It's REAL loud. We eventually moved to another table-the main dining area is a bit more quiet. The waitress we had kinda reminded me of a girl-zombie, just blank. We split the chicken fried steak and eggs-were given the country fried chicken (not a horrible swap, but come on-that's not what I ordered). It's not bad, but if you're a huge fan of this dish like I am, it wasn't completely up to par. The eggs aren't bad, but not great, and the rest of the plate wasn't bad, but not great. They also charge for water....? I didn't think that was a thing, but OK. My husband liked the coffee, but I would've prefered it quite a bit stronger. One big thing-NO BOOZE. I couldn't even identify the cheap cut of meat on my plate. The hash browns were decent, not quite browned enough, though. They did get the toast right. All that being said, my buddy said his biscuits and gravy were good. The prices were astonishingly reasonable. The dining room was bustling with locals during our whole visit. Maybe it was just bad luck on my end, everyone else there seemed to be enjoying their food. If I were in the area again, I'd give it another shot. I wanted to love this place.
