My friend and I were heading towards the mountains and we were hungry. The first interesting-looking place we stopped at had closed (it was an odd time on a Sunday afternoon), so we decided to stop at the next interesting place. Otto's was it! The place is small and seemed perpetually busy, so it took a while to get our food. But, there are also lots of interesting things to look at, so it wasn't bad. And the staff was very friendly I ordered the South Carolina BBQ sandwich, and we split an enormous basket of sweet potato fries. We liked that there was frosting to dip them in. My sandwich was good and generous; I only ate half, which meant that I got to enjoy the other half at another time. At first, we were not very impressed with the fries, but we managed to eat them all, so I guess they actually were good! read more

Stopped in here because of the Yelp reviews. It was a good choice! It was super busy which meant that we had to wait a little longer for our food- 15-20 min. The guy behind the counter made sure to let folks know about the wait. Service was very friendly. Our sandwiches were delicious. We got the special and the original chicken sandwiches. Probably liked the special the best. There is only 1 restroom at this place and it was out at back of the building. Considering how busy it was there was a fairly long wait to use bathroom. Classic chicken sandwich was enormous! It was good, but a bit overcooked (dry) and the breading needed some seasoning (salt). I was envious of other orders coming from the kitchen, like the cheesesteaks and the loaded chicken sandwich. Oh well, next time. It's a small shop tucked off the side of the road next to the gas station and rustic furniture store. Blink and you will miss it. Outstanding chicken sandwiches in the mountains, dubbed America's highest fried chicken. I was on a men's trip and we were staying near Fairplay. We stopped here twice. Both times I ordered their Original Chicken sandwich. Each time we visited, it was busy. Limited parking, a line, sparse seating. The staff was friendly and attentive, personable and calm under pressure. The orders kept coming and they kept steady hands on the fryers pumping out consistently good food. This chicken sandwich was the best I've had. Large, all white meat, quality chicken. It was perfectly fried with a thinner breading. It didn't over power the meat but complemented it. The only topping this sandwich needs is pickles. They were thicker than normal, fresh, crunchy and juicy. The honey butter and fresh toasted bun rounded it all out. The side of fries were good too, crunchy and flavorful. If you're near Fairplay and looking for a good meal, go here. I'd go back. read more

Spectacular sandwiches at 9500 ft in the Rockies! We were staying near Fairplay for a few weeks this summer/fall and had seen Otto's but never actually stopped there. This time, we made plans to have one dinner there and it was absolutely worth it. I had the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich, all the way with their serrano slaw and blue cheese dressing and my wife had the Classic. The chicken is absolutely that - a fried whole chicken breast - no marinade, no special flavors - just chicken. No surprises, no "weird" tastes - and the menu is diverse enough that you can find something to match your tastes and appetite, from basic to "everything," as our order shows. There's no skimping on the toppings or flavors. The sweet potato fries were a very nice surprise - they were thicker cut vs. the thing, shoestring types you so often get elsewhere. They had a crisp outside, soft inside and kept their heat well. The hashbrown - both a side and a topping - was perfectly crisp. Otto's is a gem! Read their reviews about having a great pastrami sandwich. It was by far the best hot pastrami sandwich I've ever had! The bread was the perfect texture with melted Swiss, LOT of meat and a pickle. Classic! The service was excellent and took just a few minutes to make. It's an order-at-the-counter type of place with several tables to dine at and the people working there were very friendly. Their breakfast biscuit sandwich was one of the better breakfast sandwiches I've had. The biscuit was super flavorful and moist, didn't crumble apart when biting into it, and was perfectly stuffed with gooey cheddar cheese, fried egg, and crispy bacon. We came in the biggest snow storm of the year. We were welcomed warmly with some of the friendliest service I've had in a while. They had crayons and coloring sheets for the kids. The food was as wonderful as the service. The breakfast burrito was baller! Just a perfect stop! read more

My family and I recently stayed in Fairplay for a week. While there we dined at Otto's three times because it was so good. It is a cute little place with inside and outside seating and is dog friendly. If you get there and there is a line to order just be patient because it is worth the wait. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. Some of our families favorites were the BLT, grilled cheese, smashburger and the hot honey buffalo chicken. Every thing that we tried was good.
