I got a brat with onions and sauerkraut. It was good and paired well with my beer (forgot which one). I'd recommend it. The staff was great, answered questions, and made recommendations. The place was interesting with outdoor seating and several few rooms indoors (pool table, foosball table, back porch, restrooms, some living room type of area, a few TV's...). The only things we didn't like were tied to the random people there. The first was a person outside that we originally thought was going to solicit us for money while we were a captive audience there eating, but then just sat awkwardly near us and chatted with random passerbys; his two or three color dyed goatee looking like he just came from a college football game and attire reminiscent of Hugh Heffner with a mountain aura. He didn't even get a drink, he just walked up and sat around, then disappeared as magically as he appeared. Then there were a few patrons that were talking like they just came in to satisfy their case of the munchies. I was going to walk the downtown, but decided to keep on driving after this. Overall, I'd stop in again and just eat inside, probably a bit away from the bar. Everyone was super friendly, but I couldn't get over the general vibe of that time of day in the area. read more

Great little place. We've been next door for drinks in the past but decided to give this place a go and I'm so glad we did. Hoss was awesome, very welcoming and accommodating- he turned the Avs game on for us so we could watch it. Great prices on shots. 2 shots of Patron Silver were $16 total before tip. The facility itself was warm and full of history. It was a lot more quiet than its counterpart next store, which was great so we could hear the game commentary. This will be our new go to place in Fairplay. read more

Really enjoyed the stop on the way to Buena Vista with family of four, my husband and myself. It was pretty empty when we went, and my niece and nephew just had a blast, playing pool and eating some delicious bar food. We were served by the chef who takes a lot of pride in the food he makes, and as he should! It was delicious homemade with love. If you're looking for a spot to grab a bite, definitely stop through here. read more

Stopped because I wanted a Reuben. Another reviewer said they were good. I can't deny that it was. What was so inappropriate was the INTENTIONAL choice of music that was played while we ate our food. Let's just say it started with "I want to F you". I tried to ignore it but in hindsight I should have gotten up with my daughter and grandson and left. If you're coming after a hunting trip with a bunch of your bro's, fine. If you're a woman, stay away. read more

The service was awesome and certain foods were very good. One waitress busted it for our Family of 13...7 kids. Yes to Pizza, Reuben, Salads, Loaded Tots. No to chicken wings, which was popcorn chicken and hamburger was just average fast food. Good beer choices. read more

No one was interested in waiting on anyone not sitting at the bar. Three other parties entered when we did. Hubby even went over to bar to get the staff's attention- nothing. Noticed other groups were also not waited on. We left. Park Bar next door was happy to get our business. Wings there were juicy. Great view out back and hubby loved the beef stew in bread bowl special. Check Park Bar out. read more

We love a friendly pub and this one filled the bill. I needed gluten free and the two women sitting next to us were able to check out labels and helped us settle on nachos. When they arrived they didn't put on the 'stuff'. Two minutes later one of the women came back with all the toppings. And they were great! Plus my husband enjoyed his boneless wings. We've visited the restaurant three times within a month. First time we met John - GREAT GUY. He was the server and the people in the kitchen were great too! Had a Rueben (Yum!) and ...I can't remember the other dish we ordered ...but both were good and fairly priced. Second visit we met Tigger - GREAT GUY! He served us up a couple of personal pizzas and they were really good ...and can't beat the price! Third visit we met ...I don't know cause she was so rude, we weren't interested in talking with her. We sat outside because we had our pup and walked in to tell her we were there. She told us she was too busy to keep track of us outside so we'd have to let her know when we were ready to order ...huh?? When I went in to place our order, she and the other server were both on their phones ...too busy??? Anyhoo, tried to order a pizza 1/2 Hawaiian and the other half Pepperoni ...in previous visits we'd seen/heard 1/2 and 1/2 pizza orders but this woman was having nothing to do with it ...she said she couldn't do a pizza that way ...then why had we seen it done both times we'd been there previously??? okay, ordered a Hawaiian and Rueben ...we added on the Mozzy Sticks at $3 extra ...not worth the upcharge at all! The food here is great (except the mozzy sticks) and the prices are very reasonable. We'll definitely be back but hoping that we run into John or Tigger ...and not little miss rude! read more

In FairPlay we were just looking for a quick lunch. Our guide at Horseback riding recommended this place. We were surprised at how wonderful the food was. It looks like a burger place but the Reuben was great and the salads were fabulous! Great big salads for the money! The specials of fried cauliflower, cheese curds and jalapeños were just amazing. Would definitely recommend this place. The staff was charming. read more

We stayed in FairPlay as our "home base" while traveling the state on our honeymoon. Stopped in a few times. Tigger is a cool dude. And the locals are pretty awesome. 27 bucks gets you 2 drafts and angry orchard and a shot of whiskey. Not bad for a mountain town Would recommend and will stop again read more

The encounter started innocently enough, entering through the door to a man wearing the shirt of another restaurant. We weren't quite sure what to do, as it was unclear if this man worked there. Turns out he worked at this saloon. No worries, he took the lead in this delicate tango between barkeep and customer. Upon asking "Can we sit anywhere?", the gentleman replied "It's a bar.". Far enough, he had me there. Moving on to the menu, it's what you'd expect. Remember, you're in Fairplay, CO, so if you're looking for a Michelin star restaurant, I have to suggest that you adjust your expectations....significantly. As I'm an aficionado of all things tater tots, I couldn't resist. It's called the Platte River Saloon, so the tots are appropriately named River Tots. Get the pun? I sure did. While the tots hit the spot, I was off-put by the fact that they were served in a cereal bowl. But, I decided to take my own advice and remind myself that I'm in Fairplay, CO, so presentation isn't that important. I decided to pair this with an all time favorite, a Philly Cheesesteak. I mean, who can mess up a Philly. Well, Platte River Saloon, that's who. The meat looked like roast beef. As one who lived in Philly for a bit, I know that this is an abomination to all things cheesesteak. I will say that the water I drank was legit. As time went on through the meal, our server seemed to take a liking to us and was less prickly than in that first encounter. On balance, the tots were good, but the cheesesteak needs work. Looking back on this dining event, I probably should have selected the meatball sub, but I digress. read more

we needed to leave our home in Silverthorne while window installers were there so we went over Hoosier Pass to FairPlay for the afternoon. we decided to grab a late lunch here after reading the reviews and I'm glad we did. the customer service was great. Haus answered all of our questions about the menu and ever told us very interesting history regarding the building. Since I love to cook and try new recipes, Haus and I had a interesting conversation about fusion in our cooking. He brought me a sample of his baked beans and slaw and they were both amazing. It was an afternoon well spent with good conversation and food. we are definitely going to be going over the pass again to eat at this awesome saloon read more

The food here was okay. Pastrami sandwich was pretty good, Philly cheesesteak was average at best. The main reason for the low rating is the service. Our 3 sandwiches came pretty quickly, but the soup was missing. Someone politely asked about it and the waiter snapped at her about "having only 2 hands". Having been a waitress for several years, that's happened to me before. But I never would've spoken in that manner to a customer. It made for an uncomfortable meal, especially when the server would walk near us. read more

So, it's just our favorite place. Period. If you want a cold beer and delicious bar food, this is where you want to be. River tots and cheese curds are crunchy and delicious, their BLT and reuben are killer, and the pizza is pretty darn good too. Everyone that works here is awesome--best bartenders and kitchen staff around. We've been in at least a dozen times and it's been consistently great every time. read more

Waited for a prolonged period and had to get up to ask a waitress to take our order. The place has signage that brags about willfully not complying with health and safety measures. The food was bland and definitely not good enough to come again considering the risks. read more

This place is great to stop by for lunch. Filled with old me and old dogs telling great stories around the bar when I stopped by. Comfort food was filling and tasty and the beers were cold and cheap. The bar is well over 100 years old and cool. Nice little room with toys and tv for any kids in tow. read more

The food was fine, nothing special. My son had a personal 10" pizza that was good, my wrap was ok, not great. The service was sub marginal. It was not busy but they messed up orders and were not willing to correct their mistakes when the bill came. The bar had almost nothing left and instead of being apologetic or kind, they were snooty and rude to the point of being disrespectful. read more

Stopped there to meet with some friends. There was no wait and the waitress was really nice and quick. They don't have too many beers on tap but that's alright. The food was good and came quickly. Ate dinner here last night! The little waitress worked her butt off as the place was super busy! Food was ok. Husband had rib plate and it was "ok." I had the French dip and it was "ok!" But the southwest rolls were out of this world!!!! Drinks were cold!! Again, I'm giving this a 5 star bc the waitress was busting her butt and a younger tall dark haired gentleman from the kitchen was helping her out! Bathroom was clean! Will visit again! read more

TERRIBLE SERVICE!! When we walked in we were told we could have a seat wherever. We sat at a table for 20 minutes and finally walked out (not sure why we even waited that long). No one even acknowledged we were there once we sat down. They even watched us walk out and didn't try to apologize. There were a bunch of drunks at the bar otherwise they were not busy at all. This place gets a two star from me mainly because the jalapeño cheddar pretzel was delicious. However, I'm sure it was probably frozen too. There really isn't much of a menu so I gave up and ordered what was safe and that was chicken tenders. They cost $9. When they arrived and I took my first bite I was grossed out. They are processed Tyson chicken tenders. When I say processed I mean they are straight up spongy tenders. I couldn't stomach them. Be warned. read more

Finally, be aware that they add an automatic 3% "Kitchen and Brewer Appreciation" surcharge to the bill, on top of normal tax and tip. While the food was great, the unbundled charges for standard mixers, deceptive side options, and extra surcharges leave a bad taste. Food: Rueben was great. Husband wished for more sauce but I thought it was the perfect balance. Kiddo loved the broccoli and mac. Pro tip: Check your receipt (which we didn't get until *after* we cashed out). Server (who was great, by the way) came to our table in a break from his large table and announced our total so we didn't see the breakdown until the text receipt arrived.

For parking you can either park next-door at a closedown store or try and find street parking for Tuesday with the World Cup being on it was a little busy and the weather was so they had the sliding doors open and you could either choose to sit inside or outside on the patio. Since it was a nice light breezy 90° day most people chose to sit outside, so all the patio tables were taken. We were told we could sit anywhere and they brought us a menu as soon as we seated. Are we just walked away and brought us back two glasses and a big craft of water. She gave us a few minutes to look over the menu which I do appreciate. But when she came back, asked if we had any questions I asked her how big the kids tiny burger was she said it's like the size of a slider and it came with nothing on it, but you could add whatever you wanted. I ended up going with the tiny burger off of the kids menu adding mayonnaise, lettuce, onion, and the bacon marmalade. My coworker ordered the same and a shredding tots. Food came out in a respectable amount of time. It was hot and fresh. You can see right into the kitchen as it is an old food trailer that they have set up as the cooking area, which was really cool. The waitress was bringing out food for other patrons. We noticed the size of the burgers and we were glad that we got the tiny ones. first bite of the burger was absolutely fabulous. It was juicy just enough pink and the flavors with the bacon marmalade out of this world. I did try one of my coworkers shredding. They were fabulous also with just a hint of blue cheese mixed in with the potato. Definitely a must try and will be going back the next time. I am in town.
