We made last second stop for a late lunch at this cool little Mexican restaurant. Loved the Mexican music playing and the wait staff was great. The food was amazing and huge portions. I had to try the combo to experience a little variety which I would highly recommend. The salsa was a huge hit, the green was our favorite. Huge proportions, food is just OK imo. Got an Asada burrito, steak was pretty tough to chew unfortunately. GF got a bowl (!) of chicken tortilla soup, it must've been at least a quart and a half. The only reason to make the drive to Breckenridge from the Springs is to stop at Casa Sanchez on the way home. Last ski season, my cousin introduced me to this gem, and we've since converted several other friends. It's now a tradition: Ski all day, then reward ourselves with the best food, biggest portions, friendliest service, and most delicious margaritas on the drive back. From the outside of this converted old cabin featuring a handlebar mustache logo, you wouldn't expect a hot fireplace and the best margaritas in Colorado, but trust me, you will become a believer in no time. The chicken tortilla soup can feed a family of four easily. I recommend sharing dishes or going a la carte unless you want to take home leftovers (we always do, which suits us just fine). Don't forget to put in your coffee order before you leave, too (it's still quite a drive after a long day of skiing unless you're staying in Fairplay). Salud! read more

We were so excited to be passing by South Park where the town and buildings look just like they were from the TV show. When we saw this place we were like, "Ohhhh shaitttt, it's la Casa Bonita!" Traffic wasn't moving and one of us had to pee so this unceremonious visit didn't come with high expectation. This little restaurant was authentically Mexican, down to the waiter who spoke broken English and wore a shirt that said, "Kiss me I'm Mexican." Not sure if that line ever worked on anyone. We weren't even hungry but ordered a couple of popular dishes anyway. When the food came out, boy-o-boi were we surprised! The tacos were so flavorful without being overly seasoned. The Mexican rice was fluffy and well-cooked and the refried beans were nothing short of perfection. We especially love the ginormous carnitas dish. In fact, everything was ginormous at a reasonably cheap price. (Believe you me, this Texan know good and cheap Mexican food. LOL) Other pluses were the nice and clean bathrooms, no automatic 18%+ tip suggestion, and a nice dog-friendly patio with both covered and uncovered areas. Tried this place based on other reviews and so glad we did. We were staying just outside of Alma so a very short drive. The staff are very friendly. There is outdoor dining which looked nice but forgot our sweatshirts on the cooler night so ate inside. We had the pollo asado and pollo chipotle and both were delicious. What a find when we were out on the road. Small town but a great place to eat. It's old and small but the service was fantastic, the food was the same and even though it was old, it was clean. I had the Two Option Plate with a fried Chili Relleno with shredded beef & cheese and a Chimichanga with shredded beef. The Chimichanga was very good but was filled only with beef, lots of it. A good cheese sauce covered it with some veg on top. The fried Chili Relleno was the best I've ever eaten...anywhere. It was short and fat with a not too hot chili, wonderful, shredded beef in amazing, melted cheddar cheese. The batter was crispy and light, giving it a great texture contrast with the rich cheese and beef. The bite with the crispy chili, tender shredded beef and a smooth, rich, melted cheddar cheese was simply sinful. Do yourself a favor and stop in if you are passing through. I will say though, they give big portions and I should have only had the single choice option. read more

Wow - we were NOT expecting to have some of the best Mexican food we've had when we came here, but my dad said we had to try it. He was not lying! We had the mushroom appetizer, carnè asada burrito, a carnitas platter, the carnitas burrito, and a kids bean and cheese burrito. We also had margaritas which can come with a tajín rim. Everything was delish! Meats were tender and moist and everything was. VERY flavorful. The kids also had hot collates and my son said I had to make sure I let everyone know that they were also very tasty. Service was fast and excellent and the ambiance was perfect. It's been a long time since we stopped in Fairplay for anything, but thanks to sclerotic traffic, it was getting late and we were hungry. We drove through town, and saw Casa Sanchez, decided to check it out. From the outside, it's not fancy. From the inside, it's less fancy. The food, however, is something else. Portions are....generous. I had three carnitas tacos, despite being hungry, I could only eat two. I'm not exaggerating that there was more pork in ONE of those tacos, than there would be in three tacos in any of the Mexican restaurants at home. And they tasted awesome. Tender, moist pork. Beans and rice were delicious. Did I mention generous portions? My companion had carnitas burrito, it was massive, but so good she finished it. We'll definitely plan trips around returning, as the food is too good to pass up. read more

Went tonight, our first Mexican food in colorado and it was so bad we couldn't even eat it. Salt, pepper, garlic and paprika is how you season fajitas... also quesadillas should not have cheddar cheese .. white cheese, always. Even the salsa was bad and the chips had a burnt taste. Almost 100 bucks for 4 people for a meal we ate maybe 10% of... so many good reviews of this place must be from people who've never eaten south texas mexican food. read more

Food was fantastic and the service was fast and waiter was attentive Asked for a recommendation between two dishes. Went with the carnitas burrito and was not disappointed. The pork was tender and tasty. Husband had the carne asada tacos and they were flavorful as well. Salsas were so good we could have made a meal of the chips and salsa but glad we didn't because the entree was so awesome We will definitely will be making the drive back for truly great Mexican food. OMG - that's all I can say. I was NOT expecting such a delicious restaurant on our drive through Fairplay. The service was super fast, the food included GIANT portions for a great price, and everything was delicious. I particularly loved their salsa that comes with the chips, because it's not at all like salsa from a jar. The door was open and some flies were buzzing around, but that's to be expected in the summer. Will definitely be back! read more
