I have been a fan of Cafe Buchi since they opened in Leadville. Their lunch menu and drinks are fantastic. I tried breakfast last weekend and unfortunately it is not the same quality or service. The man who took our order seemed annoyed that we were there, our table waiter was very rude, ant one point when I looked him in the eye and raised my hand, he said "I can't help you". and the sandwiches were not of the same quality as their lunch menu. Stopped in for a bite to eat, and the food was pretty good. Not the best Cuban, but definitely worth a try. It is an order at the counter and they bring it to you type of place. Ordered a Pan Con Lecheon, and a dark and stormy. Both were tasty. Service was quick and efficient. There aren't any sides to order, so really all you get is a sandwich. The food is great and location is central and has lots of seating. Only issue is the pricing. I asked for an extra sauce and was charged $2 for a small amount. That seems excessive, I was expecting like fifty cents or less. If it really worth charging your customers that much for a small amount of sauce? Then it was $5 for a tiny amount of rice and beans, which is fairly inexpensive to make, so that didn't add up either. The plantains were $7 and came with no sauce, which is why I asked for some. The first time we stopped in here was a few years ago. We were impressed by the food (even though there only a few things on the menu) and the delicious Cuban coffee. Then it all went downhill from there . We stopped by with our 6# puppy intending to sit outside on their outside, uncovered area. I carried him up to the outside window to order and they went positively ballistic! Yelling at us that we can't have a dog, even outside, anywhere near the restaurant. Other guests also sitting outside questioned their reaction, but to avoid any more screaming we left. Next time I stopped by I ordered an egg & cheese sandwich, only to discover they charged $6.50 for gluten free bread. Sorry, but unless they're serving the world's best coffee & egg sandwiches, which they are not, there is no reason in the world to treat customers like that or overcharge for bread. First and foremost, it's an open patio spot and no dogs are allowed (service animal only). Like you lost me at outdoor seating + no dogs. Horrible business approach. I am a huge lover of Cuban food and what a pleasant surprise it was to stumble upon Buchi in little old Leadville. Cuban sandwiches are my favorite and I am a critic of them I suppose. They have the exact right kind of authentic bread you should use in a Cuban sandwich. The Cuban mix was made perfectly with all of the ingredients you should have on a Cuban. They didn't try to make it trendy- they made it authentic. Price is on point and the portion is substantial. I managed to finish the entire thing because it was so good, but could easily stretch it for two meals. Boyfriend got the Aye Conyo and enjoyed it as well. I would not consider if you are gluten-free. There is an option for a pork bowl that comes with pork, rice, and beans. I asked for a side of hot peppers and mustard, to replicate a sandwich I wished I could have eaten and was told (kinda rudely) that the kitchen doesn't allow add-ons. I didn't feel like spending 15 dollars on such a plain entree, so I just declined to order food at that point. We would have left but had already spent 15 minutes in line in the sun and the rest of my party can eat gluten, so I had a mojito and watched the rest of them enjoy their cuban sandwiches. Ordered $70 worth of food. Responded "Here" when asked if we were "here" or "to go". Person who took our order was rude. Made me feel like I was in bootcamp while ordering. They rushed us and were not friendly. I got a specialty coffee to enjoy in the restaurant. It was served in a paper cup. I asked them if I could get a ceramic cup for the drink. The bar has tons of them sitting out in and around the espresso machine. The guy that took my order came over and told me that we could not have a ceramic cup for our coffee. He said that they don't do that. I pointed to the bar and said, other people are enjoying their coffee in a coffee cup. He stormed off and said "whatever" to me and left me alone with no further help. For the next 20 minutes, I overheard him and the bar staff ridiculing me for asking for a cup for my coffee. They made such a big deal about a relatively small ask. At the end of the meal, I cleared my table and threw all of the trash in the designated area. There were not any busboy bins, so I took my coffee mug, plates, and silverware up to the bar. I asked the bartender "can I give these to you". The place was busy and I figured I would show them respect, despite the way they were behaving. The bartender promptly scolded me by saying "don't put those up here". He raised his voice. I asked him where I should put the dirty plates and utensils and he said "go put them back at your table". Terrible service!!! Disrespectful to customers. read more
