    Chili cheese fries
    Miranda E.

I was hoping that we'd love this place because we pass it often when we hike in the mountains. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to our dreams and expectations. We each got a cheeseburger and shared a strawberry shake and chili cheese fry, and my boyfriend tried the chili cheese dog. The burgers were decent, but the bread they were on couldn't withstand the liquid and it was a bit soggy, even though we ate our food right away. The fries were great, but they were about what you'd expect from fast food chili cheese fries. The shake was just okay. It was like a cold Nesquik strawberry milk. My boyfriend ate the dog with no complaints so I'm assuming that was okay as well. We both agreed that we would eat there again if we were starving, but it's probably better to just wait until you get to town.

Hamburgers are great! Perfect drive - through snack or meal. I had the plain cheeseburger, my son had the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger with grilled onions. Both were yummy!

It isn't great, but much better than Wendys or Quadoba. So, if you are desperate, this would be a good option.

Solid option for a quick grab and go meal. Burgers are good. Onion rings are damn near magical.

The only thing I didn't like as much was the hashbrowns, they were just okay. I also ordered the jalapeño bread French toast (recommended by our server). I love jalapeño flavor, but I remember thinking it sounded kind of weird for French toast... but I'm glad I tried it because it was so good. They make their breads in-house and I would definitely get that again. I also tried some of my friend's banana bread and that was really delicious too. Didn't get a chance to try these since we had to get to the hot springs soon so thought it's too much food to finish in time, but they had a French toast flight and a Benedict flight, which I've never seen before. Pretty cool, I love anything where you can try multiple flavors. Overall, would reccomend this brunch spot in Idaho Springs. Would come back!

It's a fun, cozy little place with a lot of hustle and bustle--you can tell it's a popular spot! The staff was friendly and working hard, keeping tables moving. The food was fantastic. Their breakfast menu is impressive, especially if you're an Eggs Benedict fan. I had the Brazilian Benedict, which was creative and delicious, and my wife loved her Pancake Flight--a fun way to try a few different kinds. They have over ten types of Benedicts, including a "Flight of the Benedicts" and a huge list of specialty omelets and creative pancakes. It's clear they focus on quality, using organic eggs and homemade English muffins. We really enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back next time we're passing through Idaho Springs.

Blackbird Cafe - Mountain Brunch & Lunch - Salmon avocado toast was amazing!! We couldn't pass up a side of buttermilk pancakes also. You've got to go if you're in the area!

Blackbird is cutesy and inviting with brightly painted exterior (featuring butterflies and sunflowers), cozy and wooded interior, with one hell of a Creekside view. The layout inside is a little awkward - and entrance is right near the kitchen. However, we maneuvered to a table in the corner near the window - with a nice, sunny view and was greeted by a friendly face who gave us a rundown of the specials and allowed us ample time to peruse the menu. We decided to sip on Arnold palmers and split The Rachel - essentially a Turkey Ruben with a side of fries and sweet potato fries - because two types of fries is always the right choice! Within about 10 minutes, our food arrived, which was just what the doctor ordered. Splitting the meal was perfect, as the sandwich was huge. Mom's fries were delicious while my sweet potato fries were a little burnt, but still yummy. Service was friendly, welcoming and accommodating to our lunch date. Pricing is on point and reasonable for a cute mountain town. I'd easily return!

The hash browns were spices and seasoned. The biscuits and gravy were $18.50. The gravy was thickened flour milk, with no salt or pepper, the blandest gravy I ever had. It did nothing to enhance the flavor of the biscuits. It just made them soggy. The price for the meal was hefty. Coffee was good. Hot chocolate was delicious. I consider Conifer a 'highway' town,' catered to those folks passing through on 285. I was disappointed.

We stopped here on the way back to Denver the day after a wedding, so you know we were in desperate need of the coffee / water combo immediately. After getting that out of the way, you have about a million various breakfast / lunch combos at your disposal. We all got breakfast because a great perk of this cafe is that many meals come with a pancake. The sweet and salty breakfast combo was ideal. Their skillet meals were fantastic. If you don't want gravy, you can switch it out for their green chilis. Matter of fact, you can substitute pretty much anything for whatever you want here. It's like the Substitution Cafe. I don't think I will ever be back here in my life because I don't live anywhere near here, but if you're deciding on a place to go for breakfast, check it out!!
