Love the vibes at Curio! Very spacious open seating area (with heat lamps if it's chilly) where you aren't forced to overhear the table next to you. I liked everything I ordered: shrimp grits (and I don't even usually like grits but these were really good and not greasy), cinnamon babka French toast (not just pretty to look at, also delicious), and fried pickles (first time having these anywhere and they were sooo good!). My boyfriend and I come here every weekend for their vegan Mac n cheese and chupacabra cocktail drink. Honestly the atmosphere here is so pleasant. Their live music and food presentation is beautiful. We always ask for julio , he takes very good care of us and we recently meet Adri , she is also very sweet. I honestly recommend this place for a date or just getting a bite and drinks with friends. It's very comfortable and chill. My boyfriend and I recently did their self service sit down and it's really great. You scan the QR code on the table and from there you place your order and anything you want and they'll bring it to you, basically very little contact with the waiters which is nice. Honestly is doesn't matter If you chose the self service or have them sit you down, they always make you feel very welcomed and are so kind. It took us a while to find a restaurant that my boyfriend and I both enjoyed and I'm glad to say that curio is the place to be! Stumbled upon Curio on a Saturday night after being treated rudely at another bar down the street. We heard the lively New Orleans Jazz music playing and took chance that Curio would have a table for our family party of six. They cheerfully accommodated us and every server and busboy we passed on our way to our table, greeted us with a warm, "Welcome!" Our server, Nick, was happy, friendly, and engaging! Two friends joined us later and were also graciously accommodated. It was fun to choose from the whimsical creative drink menu and we all loved our delicious cocktails! It's nice to find a happy, welcoming bar in the Mission, to have a good time. We will return! read more

Modern, upscale ambience that's suitable for a date with a loved one or a friend. This place is in the more expensive price range than other places to eat in Mission BUT they delivered to me the best fish and chips I have ever had before. Amazing little snacks -- had the vegan mac & cheese, tofu spring rolls, BBQ ribs, and the chicken strips. Waited for around 30 min in line but the wait was worth it. Meh is right. Better options abound. The drinks were excellent - Jackalope and Chupacabra. The beer can chicken's skin was like leather and totally inedible, but the meat fine. The sides were forgettable. The truffle parmesan steak fries were strong, but if that is your thing, rock on. Deviled eggs are a winner. The special fried mushroom sandwich was almost good, just too heavy on the pimento cheese. The service pleasant, but slow. Given the quality of food in the neighborhood, it is best to just skip Curio for food. The bar is lively and fun so, that is your way better bet. read more

I've been here twice since they opened, both times on a Sunday afternoon. Same server both times, same sub par experience. The first time we thought she may just be frazzled. The second time it was clear that she was on something. Me: Do you guys have gluten free buns for the burgers? Server: (blank stare) Huh?... Gluten free?... uh.... Me 30 minutes later (still without drinks): Hi, no one has taken our order yet, can we please order? Server: Can you hold on? (Walks away) We had missed drinks, missed food, food brought to the wrong table, messed up orders. The whole experience was a comedy of errors, the kicker of which was that since we were a party of 8, they had charged us a 20 percent service tip for the worst service I've ever had in SF in my last 20 years of dining out. We waited so long for anyone to even bring our drinks out that we had actually sent one in our party to go see how long the wait times were at several neighboring restaurants! Food and drinks were ok once they straightened out the incorrect orders, but not worth the frustration. I might consider coming back after scanning the patio to ensure different staff is working first. read more

Met friends here for Happy Hour; Ordered the deviled eggs (technically it was one egg cut in half) and they were decent. Seems they're trying too hard though with the chicharron and Chile oil as they didn't add to the flavor of the egg itself. Was good to try but probably wouldn't order them again. The hush puppies though were delish! We should've ordered two plates of those! The guys ordered the Green Flash DIPA and it was nice & hoppy. Us girls ordered a cocktail that was pretty good but my glass was given to me pretty much half full...shame on the bartender and the waitress for bringing it out like that and when I brought it up, there was no offer to take it back for a new one, etc. We sat out on the patio which was nice, until it got full. Once that happened, the chairs, dogs and customers made it very difficult to maneuver around. I looked around for some time before finding this place and it was definitely worth it. I got the everything bagel platter, or some jazz like that, and it was PHENOMENAL. I've had smoked salmon a million times before, but their stuff blew me the hell away. Service was quick and attentive as could be! The staff was also really cool and engaging. I got to know a few of them while I was there too, which is a big deal to me, considering how socially awkward I am. Everyone was so awesome though! I hit it off with Tristan and Carlos in particular (who both make an excellent long island iced tea). There was another bartender/supervisor named Daren (I believe) who makes drinks fast as hell and was entertaining to watch. Straight faced as he was, the dude has flair and charm! At some point I mentioned where I was from, and the general manager, Kyle, happened to be from the same city, which was pretty epic! We both knew specifically where the other came from, too! Not only did this place have amazing food and drink to satiate this traveler, but the staff was awesome and made me feel at home, Kyle in particular! My only regret was that I wasn't staying in San Francisco longer so that I could try more of the menu! I fully intend on going back when I'm back in the city! I hope to see some of the same friendly folk who made it such a good experience for me! I doubt they'll ever read this, but you guys alone made the trip with it! read more

So disappointed. I don't know what is worse ~ the food, the poor slow snarky service, or the false advertising ("Are you headed to one of the upcoming Peter Murphy shows? Stop on into our brand new restaurant Curio...Let the host know you're going to the show and they'll get you all set with wristbands, etc. And if you dine with us before doors you'll be given access to the venue a couple of minutes early to secure a prime spot for the show.") Since most come for the food, I'll start there...DON'T. I was starving, but not in the mood for anything in particular, so I asked the waiter which was better, the BBQ short ribs or the fish & chips. He said the short ribs, the most expensive thing on the menu at $29. The moment he set the meal on the table, I thought, "This is NOT a $29 meal!". There was a thin line of plain mashed potatoes (50 cents worth?)(possibly from a box/dehydrated? (not sure what they're called), from the way they stuck to the plate then released with a strange, stretchy, starchy quality.), a small line of 'Cole slaw' (50 cents?)(cabbage, cilantro, not much else. Had 1 bite.), and between the two, a bright red lump of tomato paste. After removing the 4-6 oz. of Hunt's tomato paste with a bit of chili powder added, I found a 2 1/2" x 3" piece of meat (maybe $3-4 worth, less due to age?). (If you didn't know, a dollar bill makes a great ruler as it's exactly 6"x 2 1/2"). Ever wonder why restaurant specials are usually heavily sauced? It's because the meat is a day or two old, and they are trying to hide any imperfections. You do not swamp a good piece of meat with such a thick layer of tomato paste that the diner can't even see it unless you're really trying to hide something. So when the waiter came to remove my plate, and he could see I only had two bites of the meat and didn't eat the Cole slaw, he asked if everything was okay. I told the waiter that it wasn't. He then told me that people like it 'that way" and snarkily told me that "maybe they do not have as refined a palette as you do." He never offered to get me something else, or even to maybe bring me a bowl of mashed potatoes (as they were at least edible) or a free dessert so I would not leave hungry. He did not even ask if I wanted to order dessert! I did ask for a refill on my Coke to fill me up a little. Not only did I have to ask 2 more times for it, I had to wait 10 minutes to get it and I was changed another $3. So, for $45 with tax and tip, I had a small helping of so-so mashed potatoes and 2 Cokes for dinner. Then, there is the only reason I ate at Curio. I was in San Francisco to see an orthopedic surgeon. I knew I could not attend a concert if I had to stand, but a friend had seen that Curio advertises that if you eat there prior to a show at The Chapel, you will be allowed entry a few minutes early, giving you a chance to grab one of the 20 or so seats upstairs. From their email, "And if you dine with us before doors you'll be given access to the venue a couple of minutes early to secure a prime spot for the show." I arrived at Curio around 5:30, wanting to guarantee I'd be one of the first to enter the venue. When I arrived at the restaurant, I told the hostess I was going to the show, and I again asked her about wristbands around 6:40. So, at around 6:45, two men from security came in, started on the far side of the room, and gave wristbands to 4 or 5 tables (never asking the hostess who arrived first), then moved on to the bar, where there were people going to the show who had walked in minutes prior. Then the security guys left, leaving the 4 tables at the front without wristbands. I flagged one of them down as he was leaving, and he said they'd be back. Finally at 6:57, a woman from the next table went to check out the situation. The 2 men were letting in people off the street through the bar (non-restaurant patrons) and the front/main door was already open, admitting patrons! This is false advertising! All of these 4 tables had only chosen to eat at Curio because they wanted early entry. Not giving the promised wristbands is a horrible way to treat customers! If I would have at least gotten a few minutes early entry so I could secure a seat, maybe a $45 bowl of mashed potatoes would have been worth it. As it stands, if I could give this restaurant ZERO STARS I would. read more

I had the French Omelette which was absolutely delicious perfectly portioned with brie cheese and dungeonesse crab, and split the hush puppies - incredibly good corn fritters. I see a few people complaining about small portion size, but I felt everything was reasonably portioned! These aren't massive diner-style 5-egg omelettes. They're certainly large but not enormous, and I like them that way and will definitely be returning! read more

We had a great experience here! We came for my husband's birthday with a group of 14 and the entire staff went above and beyond to make our dinner enjoyable. The hostess, waitress, and general manager (Kyle) were so hospitable and accommodating. They gave us a private room (which we didn't ask for) and Kyle came to personally introduce himself to us. Among our group, we got a ton of different items (mostly seafood) and the cocktails were delicious. Even if I hadn't liked the food (which we loved it!), I would be back just for the incredible service. read more

Today was one of those... Life is ALOT and I need a ME DAY. So after treating myself to a pedicure, I decided to try something new and stumbled into this swanky rustic restaurant. Upon entering, I decided to peruse the menu first to see if there was anything I liked.. BOOM! I saw the FISH AND CHIPS and I was sold. I took to the bar that had plenty of seating; however, it was a Sunday evening. The bartender handed me a menu and they had a nice selection of drink specials. They even had a "drink for a cause" type of deal.. it was called the Jackalope (I think), which was pretty cool. But I decided to keep it simple and ordered a nice white wine (Albarino) and the Fish and Chips. The fish was fresh and fried to my liking (golden brown and moist) and the various sauces that accompanied the dish were my favorite. I had an overall great experience! The hostess even walked over and wished me well by the end of my meal.. I thought that was a nice personal gesture. I look forward to my next visit with friends. :) read more

The food tasted okay, but was expensive, had small portions, and the service was beyond terrible. We went for SF restaurant week and mostly just ordered off the fixed menu, so we figured the staff would have been prepared to make those dishes. In the end we were stuck there for several hours. We had a reservation, were one of the first groups to arrive for the dinner service and ordered promptly while the restaurant was still empty. Apps showed up at a reasonable time, but the mains were all over the place. One guy at our table got his plate right after his app. The rest of us watched him eat. As he's eating the restaurant starts filling up. After about 45 minutes the staff assured us that the food was coming right out, meanwhile we watched all the tables around us get served first. More time goes by. They reiterate that it's literally coming out the door right now. More time goes by. One other guy at our table finally gets his food, incorrectly prepared (asked for rare, got well done, but he didn't dare send it back). The rest of us still waiting. When he's almost finished with his meal, the rest of our food finally comes out. My meal was way way smaller than I had expected for the price (it was a $17 sandwich that was smaller, had fewer toppings, and was crafted with less effort than a $5 Subway sandwich). They also forgot to bring my side. And then forgot to bring condiments. We had to ask the staff for the dessert to go because at this point I'd left my dog home alone for an unacceptable amount of time. We had to ask twice, and the server seemed confused about what we were asking. More and more time goes by while we wait for our final course and bill so we can get the hell out of there. I ended up walking out and just left the money with a friend because my dog couldn't wait anymore. I honestly can't recommend this place whatsoever because of this experience. I didn't get the impression that they care about their patrons, everyone was dismissive and gave no explanation for why we had to wait so long. Several times the staff seemed to be running away from us to not have to answer our questions. They *do* make good drinks, so that's what they should stick to. They don't have the management skills to run a proper restaurant. My table all agreed that this was the slowest service we've ever experienced in the city. read more

Warning- do not eat here. I'm doing people a favor. Dined tonight with a group of 8. We pretty much ordered everything on the menu and literally everything was bad--even the cocktails. I usually never give one star reviews but this place deserves it and I don't want people to experience what I went through. From the beginning I got bad vibes. The place was crowded(not sure why), and the hostess didn't greet us for a long time. From my experience, if I go to a restaurant and if it's busy, they usually talk to us and apologize for the wait but instead she ignored us and didn't help us for the longest time(this place needs to train their staffs better). Also our waiter was incompetent as well. We ordered our drinks and he didn't write any of it down and came back asking what we got. So that's the service part and it was bad- I usually write reviews off of food and not the service m because being Asian, a lot of mom and pop stores could be janky and have bad service but the food could be authentic and bomb af. From the cocktails, nothing stood out, the drink that I got was very bland and tasted like sink water. As for the food... nothing was good. Chicken wings were small, fried pickles were too salty, beef sandwich was soggy and the meat was super rough, chicken sandwich was gross- buns were not edible, burgers were very weak- again bad buns and poor meat quality, Brussels sprouts were over cooked, ahi poke was frozen and watery, fries were over cooked and super greasy. We really didn't enjoy our time here. If you live in the city and if you question my review, I would say go try it out yourself. But if you're visiting from a different city, do not waste your meal here. This place doesn't represent SF and there are a lot better places out here. If I could give this place less than 1 star I would. I'm an out-of-towner and I guess it shows. I went here for two drinks and decided to be polite and order a plate of french fries. The bartender (sandy blonde hair and beard) placed an order for two of them on my behalf. When the wait staff brought me two orders, I politely explained that I had ordered one. The wait staff told the bartender, but he still insisted on putting it on my tab. I subtracted his tip from the price of the extra order of fries (still over 20% tip) and left without making an issue. The entire night, the bartender was flirting with one of the patrons and all but ignored me and the other people at the bar (I only managed to place my orders because another, more helpful member of the staff was behind the bar for other reasons). I highly recommend that you avoid this place and try out any of the more welcoming places around Valencia Street (that is unless you're a female who doesn't mind getting hit on!) read more

Off to a great start. Similar to Vestry in appearance but cleaned up and 'designed' a bit better. Clearly a menu that is evolving, which our server informed us of, but solid starting point which they can grow from. Wine pours were good and well priced. I went all out and had the full lobster, which was served chilled with two side sauces, and they made me warm drawn butter per my request. At $45 it's a fair price for a beautiful delicacy that was cooked perfectly. No sides though, this is part of the Chilled Seafood/shellfish section of the menu. Partner had the Impossible Burger that was impossibly delicious, great use of toppings that ultimately had a western burger flavor from the fried onions and tomato jam. French fries really good but could be a bit crisper on the outside. Kale salad was a winner and lighter in flavor (in a good way) and huge volume. You get bang for your buck and the food was great. Going back for the Cajun Shrimp BLT and looking forward to brunch. read more

One of the most disappointing dining experiences I've ever had. To start, I ordered a double bourbon, neat w/ ice on the side. To call it a weak pour was a joke. The drink delivery person said that indeed it was a double. I took my glass to the bar and the bartender gave me an added shot. We ordered deep fried calamari. The body pieces were dime size. Crispy but small. I ordered 3 little neck clams. They were literally the size of a quarter. I've never seen any clam that small. Waitress never heard a complaint that I had. She just did her delivery of food and didn't care about any comments. I told her of all the failures when I was leaving and she did not seem to care at all. Never will return and I suggest that no one gives this failure of a restaurant any business at all ! Sorry I have to give even one star. Young inexperienced diners might not agree, but I've dined all over the world and this place should be ashamed of itself ! read more
