My mother in-law and I ended up coming here before going grocery shopping together. I thought it was just going to be a burger joint with limited options. I was dead wrong! I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich while my mother in-law, after a few minutes of deliberation, ordered a Reuben. She said the Reuben was beautiful and melted in your mouth, and my chicken sandwich was fantastic. We didn't order sides because we didn't know how big the portions were and wanted to try the frozen custard. The portions were perfect; you felt like you didn't gorge yourself, like you do when you go to a fast food place. Now I know this place was basically meant for you to be able to have a sandwich, split fries or cheese curds with your friend, have a regular size drink (it doesn't look like they carry larger sizes), and finish it off with a cup of custard. We tried the custard; my mother in-law got vanilla and I got the flavor of the day, raspberry cheesecake. It was smooth and beautiful, a perfect ending. Again, the portions were perfect. The servers and cashiers were very nice; they were polite and friendly, patient when my mother in-law worked to make a decision, and outright energetic. When we thanked them, they responded that it was their pleasure. When we went to leave, at least three people told us to have a great day and thank us for coming. My mother in-law had to use the restroom; I don't like to use bathrooms in fast food joints so I waited outside. She came out and told me it was really clean and had a bouquet of silk flowers on the counter between the sinks. What really impressed me was they have a drive through, which means that if my husband and I have to go get some fast food before leaving town, this will be the place we go. Even better, it appears they make their own root beer in addition to their own custard, which means my husband will be a happy man. All in all, I'm highly impressed and will definitely take my husband there, since we're always looking for restaurants with reasonable prices and portion sizes. read more

First time in. Huge menu. Ordered pastrami, kid's meal, & sourdough cheesburger. I had to remove the pastrami & blot it w/paper towel it was so greasy & by this time my bread was a gushy mess. Couldn't eat it. Fries were cold. Table was dirty. Which I don't get because there must have been 20 workers BEHIND the counter. Free custard comes with children's meal. My granddaughter was happy. I wasn't happy with the at least 3 tablespoons of candy heaped on it. I didn't let her finish it. We will not be returning. I can buy ice cream cheaper somewhere else. I thought it was classy that the Broadway location's marquee said " Welcome Freddy's" when their burger/custard competitor moved in a few blocks away. I have been to the Broadway store twice. The first time it was around chrismas a very busy, but it was good. The second time I went though drive through and they have a weird system of making you pull forward into a parking space and wait even though I ordered a simple burger. It wasn't as good the second time around and I haven't been back since. I just think they're unremarkable. read more

Best ice cream around! I had the pumpkin sundae and I wouldn't do that again but every other kind of sundae I have tried has been spot on. Met the owner and I like that he is around and watching what is happening, makes a difference I think. Food was Amazing especially there Fish meal! I'd give 5 stars but the younger wait staff were too busy talking to each other to bring out my family's food! Being from Wisconsin, it's so nice to finally have Culver's out here! The people who work here are so friendly and nice. Such a pleasant experience to walk in and be treated so kindly, and then have great food! I had the fish sandwich, which is the best of all Tucson!! Culvers is the best! The burgers are fresh, the chicken tenders are 'real' and there are other sandwiches when you want a little something new. The value is great, with the kids meals only 5 bucks, and after 10 you get one free. Thornydale especially has great deals, with bogo custard treats, $2 doubles, etc read more

Very different to my palette, and not something that appeals to me. When I was there they severely messed up my order (pickles, I am allergic to dill, made this clear and still got pickles... idiot workers) however, in the ensuing kerfuffle, the manager was very reasonable (even in the face of my self admitted hissy fit), and gave me several buy on get one meal tickets (or something like that) and an extra cheese curd. so overall, the managers are nice, the teenagers are incompetent, and the food is not for me. read more

I had never heard of Culver's, but I work with someone from Wisconsin and he could not say enough about it, so I was anxious to give it a try. It has just been open about a week. We drove by it on a Friday night, and the parking lot was completely full and the drive-thru had cars lined up all around the building. We decided to wait a day and give it another try. This time we went slightly before 5:00. The parking lot was crowded, but we were able to find a spot.. We went in, and there wasn't much of a line to order, but we could see that it would be a challenge to find a place to sit. We went up to the counter to order and found that they offer a variety of items. They are clearly a "hamburger joint", but they also offer fried chicken and fish, a variety of sandwiches, and salads, a variety of sides and ice cream confections. They also have a kid's meal on their menu. I found it a bit overwhelming as there were several people in line behind us, and I felt like I couldn't really take time to peruse the menu. My friend had told me he liked the burgers and he raved about the cheese curds (fried cheese balls), so I ordered a Wisconsin burger with the cheese curds on the side. My husband ordered the butter burger (which Culver's is known for) with fries on the side, and also an order of onion rings to share. Fortunately, as we walked away from the counter, someone was getting up, so we were able to snag a table. The Wisconsin burger was similar to a patty melt, but not quite as good. It came with swiss cheese and grilled onions, but no type of sauce on the bread. It was okay, but I wouldn't order it again. My husband did enjoy the butter burger (called that because it is on a butter bun). The butter curds were similar to fried cheese sticks. They were good, but didn't come with any kind of a sauce, which I think they needed. The fries were your standard fries, but the onion rings were good. I guess I must be the odd man out because I didn't feel that the burger or the cheese curds lived up to their hype. I saw many other people eating either ice cream cones or sundaes, and they looked really good. They offer a wide variety, including a "make your own" sundae. I will probably go back to give the ice cream a try, but I wouldn't make a special trip for the burger, especially until the crowds die down. read more

The menu at Culvers is extensive. They offer burgers, pot roast and shaved prime rib sandwiches with sides like fries, onion rings and Wisconsin cheese curds to name a few. I ordered a sourdough burger. The distinctive difference in their burgers is the meat. They buy high quality meat and smash each piece of meat while grilling. I ordered the 'single' patty and although it was very tasty, the patty was thin and flat due to the smashing. No problem though. Next time I will order a 'double'. For those of you that normally order a 'double', be sure to order a 'triple'. Their frozen custard is delicious! I had the butter pecan and chocolate. It's a refined upgrade from classic ice-cream. It's smooth and creamy with a kick of flavor. YUM! The owner Kyle Kolsrud walked around the restaurant and greeted all his guests. He filled us in on the history of the restaurant, the quality of the beef and cheese (authentic Wisconsin cheese, of course) and their unique cooking method. The restaurant is bright and open and has a great outdoor seating area. A great restaurant overall! read more

Good Food . . . but rude. The food was good but the service was rude. After feeling a "I am doing you a favor by being here" attitude from the person behind the counter-I asked the person who brought me my food if they had malt vinegar (willing to go get it myself) - she blew me off and pretended not to hear me and walked away. This is when your gut instinct tells you "I know darn well she heard me" - but I just let it go and walked to the counter to inquire there. Not being a tarter sauce guy i asked if I could have a couple more than the 4 packets for 3 fish she was offering me. To which she responded to me "You know I'll have to charge you for that" . . . so I settled for 4 packs and on the way back to my seat there is a whole pile of it at the condiments I didn't see before. I hanged my head and ate in a hurry. Before I could out of there I witnessed another customer politely asking for his tray back from an employee who had swiped it from in front of him as he was getting ketchup. He said "thank you" and she responded to him with "YEAH, HAVE FUN WITH THAT!" full of sarcasm and not in a good way. Three separate girls, same attitude. What a hens nest! The food is maybe a little pricy for what it is, but the food is good. read more

Most Culvers restaurants seem very inconsistant with there food portions. I had been to one location in Phoenix that I would rate very highly. Tucson's Thornydale location was a different story My husband ordered a ruebin sandwich that had about a tablespoon of sauerkraut and a slightly larger portion of the corned beef...very disappointing. Also 3 pot roast sandwiches arrived as follows; two with mediocre portions of meat, but the third left me wondering if Culvers had run out of pot roast. We ordered custard sundays and for the price, you would expect a decent serving. Scoops were like glorified table spoon size. I willingly payed a $1 extra for some pecans, although when served I was lucky to dig around and find three pieces. I think I may have had more banana pieces...4? My 2 scoop sunday was a very expensive ($5) disappointment. I should have stoped at the local grocery store on the way home for a half gallon of Haagen Daz and served the whole family a nice dessert I wonder if the restaurant hires anorexic staff to keep the food costs down. All in all this is an overpriced fast food restaurant that I will not frequent. read more

There is nothing that sucks more than coated pre made fries. You can tell they are not fresh potatoes. And when it comes to Americana burger and fries compromising the fries by pre made pre packaged crap that is coated makes in and out superior when it comes to the authenticity of the all American burger. After reading the reviews here and subsequently going to Culver's on Thornydale for an early lunch with my husband and a college buddy, I am less than impressed. I had a burger for lunch yesterday, so I wasn't really in the mood for a burger, but all the reviews say the burgers are what you get here, and that's what I did. I hadn't seen my friend in some time, and this is the place he recommended, so this is where we went! The menu is overwhelming, which in itself made me just want to go somewhere else. Having TOO many options is not always a good thing for a food place. I got the mushroom swiss butterburger and my husband got the sourdough melt. We got the cheese curds as well. I'm not quite sure how a melt or something called a "butterburger" can be bland, but my husband and I both had to shake salt on our flavorless, paper-thin patties. The buns were pretty tasty. I have nothing to go on when it comes to the cheese curds, as I have never been to Wisconsin and I am unfamiliar, but they were alright for chunks of cheese that are battered and fried. As a cheese curd noob, I would describe them like mini-mozzarella sticks with no sauce. Nothing to write home about. The boys opted out of custard and there were too many options for me to decide, so I opted for no custard at all. Oh, note to others, everyone says that two patties are standard at this place and a single is a special order. That is no longer the case. Most likely to cut on costs in this economy (just a guess) all of the burgers are featured with single and double prices on the menu. If I do go again, I'll try just the custard. As far as the non-dessert food goes, though, I'll skip this place and head to In-N-Out next time I want fast food burgers. read more

Our family 2 kids age 10 & 7 went in for a quick bite. I had the fish but found it was a little oily given that it's fried I knew it wasn't "health" food so... The fish was big pieces and flaky. My husband got a double cheese burger and seemed to enjoy it. Our favorite part of the meal was the sundaes made with Culver's custard. Next time I would order the burger. I did like the healthier options for the children's menu. Applesauce, milk etc. instead of fries and soda. read more

I have been to this location about 3 or 4 times, and the burgers have never disappointed, juicy and flavorful, and always fresh. But this time really stood out among the rest... Because they messed up my order. I'm serious. I ordered a cod sandwich, the three cheese bacon burger, and a double bacon butterburger. I got the food but neglected to check on it due to the screaming 7 month old in the backseat. To my dismay i opened the bag to find a fried chicken family dinner. I then call them, expecting the token "well, next time you come here we will give you your meal for free." Instead i spoke to Marty who completely made my day. Before i even introduced myself she was apologizing as she explained that she has been beating herself up over the mistake. She was very gracious and empathetic and offered me nearly anything I wanted, including free meals, or a stack of coupons. I didn't want to feel like i was cheating them, so i just suggested i come over with the meal i got and exchange it for the one i was supposed to get. She insisted i keep the meal i got (which was a major relief as my 2 year old was already munching on the dinner rolls) and she would personally make everything on my order fresh for me. I proceeded to go down there to find the food already there waiting for me. I took it home and i proceeded to have the BEST burger i ever had. It was obvious she took time to make sure my food was absolutely perfect. the burgers just melted in our mouths and the cod was very flaky and fresh. I have always considered myself a fan of Culver's, but these actions in turning a bad situation into a great one have made me a loyal customer for life. Be sure to try this place! read more

Basically your typical fast food place. I appreciate all of the food choices that they do have besides burgers. The customer service is so-so...not outstanding but not awful. If I'm in the area I might stop by but I don't go out of my way to eat here. Id say its worth at least going once if you've never been before. read more

Very disappointed! My wife wanted fried chicken and was told that it would take 15-20 minutes to cook, so she tried the fish meal. The fish was over cooked and oily and the bread roll was cold. Asked for another bread roll it was cold too. I tried the Deluxe butter burger there was nothing deluxe about it except lettuce on the Burger. No joke the McDouble is a better burger for a quarter of the price. Sorry but this is the last time we eat here. read more
