We were out of town for our nieces graduation from GCU. Found this place and it looked like a great place to hang out, have some food and drinks. Unfortunately this was a horrible experience. After being seated, we waited about 1/2 an hour before drinks were offered. We ordered drinks and they didn't show up for about 30 mins. Then we ordered food, this took about an hour and we ordered more drinks and again took forever. It was taking so long that we forgot what we ordered. If the drinks would have been flowing, it wouldn't have been that big of a problem. But everything took forever. Trying to find someone to help us is damn near impossible as they don't wear name tags and dress like everyone else that is there, unprofessional. I ordered their 36hr ribs that they raved about, but I'm sorry, they were dry and nothing to rave about. My wife ordered the Steak medium and it came out over cooked and dry. This does look like a cool place to chill but management needs to get everyone to step it up. I've been to other places in California that have a similar experience but ran a whole lot better. Such a shame. read more

Culinary Dropout - 36-Hour Pork Ribs - New American Near Me - Phoenix, Arizona

Excellent food, good service, but very noisy inside. We met friends for brunch, and while it was only half full, it was so loud that we could hardly hear our server describe the specials much less enjoy conversation. But the food was fantastic. I had the butternut squash salad and substituted romaine for the kale, my husband had the smokehouse hash. We both loved our meals as they were very interesting and would have them again. read more

First time here at the Culinary Dropout and the yard in Phoenix. We had a group here to celebrate my nieces graduation. This outdoor area is immense, with sections of sofas and chairs for groups. There's corn hole games and ping pong tables which made for a great time, the staff were super accommodating and friendly. They also have a great cocktails and appetizers, we didn't have dinner here but that food looked awesome. I can definitely recommend it for a special occasion or family function even date night! read more

Culinary Dropout - Standing in the yard looking towards the bar - New American Near Me - Phoenix, Arizona

This was my first time visiting any of the Culinary Dropout locations. I came here to celebrate a birthday and my senses were overwhelmed. I parked my car using the valet (no other good option) and walked in to locate my group. So many people, tables, games, and noise. Granted, we did come on a Saturday night so it's probably one of their busiest times. We started with their pierogis appetizer which was great. I ordered the "cheap house salad" and pretzels and fondue appetizer. I loved those little bites, and the cheese was good even the next day. The salad was okay, I would've preferred a different type of salad but in the same size that I got. Service was good when we got it, it took a while for our food to come out but the place was packed. The check was easily split and it was nice of our sever to pack our leftovers. I'd consider coming back for breakfast or lunch with a less drunk and noisy atmosphere. read more

I've been to multiple Culinary Dropout locations and have enjoyed every experience with this restaurant chain! First, an absolute MUST that you need to order is the pretzel balls and fondue. The cheesy provolone fondue is super yummy and stays warm at the table for your pretzel balls to be dipped and enjoyed! I've also had the fried chicken and biscuits, meatloaf, seasonal salads, and grilled cheese with yesterday's soup. There is something for everyone on their menu and I would doubt if anything would disappoint! Also, my husband and I prefer The Yard location over most due to the yard games available. I've also seen that the Scottsdale Quarter location has cornhole and a few games available. This just makes for a more memorable experience....and more time available to order additional drinks read more

Came here to celebrate my brothers birthday. Really like the place. Looks like a backyard type. Also it's outside but covered. There's also games that's connected to the yard. There is valet parking which is free. We ordered the nachos, pretzels & fondue, & wings. The nachos weren't special. It was okay. The pretzels & fondue was good. The wings were different then other wings but it was good. I ordered the 36 hr ribs and i changed the coleslaw for green beans which is an extra charge. They gave me my order without fries and asparagus instead. But after I told them they brought the fries and green beans. My brother likes his rainbow trout fish. My sister and brother got the grilled chicken sandwich it was okay cause they only finished half of it. My brother got the prime rib sandwich, it was okay but still hungry a bit after. We also got dessert but the s'mores one. Not impressed. Also the bathrooms are interesting there's a women's and a men's and but when u enter the sinks are for both and there's a separate door for the girls. read more

Food was great. Live music was a little loud for the group but I didn't mind cause I just took out my hearing aids. Service was ok for a busy night during a weekend. The overall experience was great and I would go back when I'm in town. read more

Meh. Originally, I was going to give this 1 star but the manager brought me back up to 3 stars. The highlights- cute ambiance and wide open area. They socially distanced and everyone was wearing the masks. The lows were the service was super slow at the start. It felt like they had more servers who flexed to come in later as we waited 20 minutes before we could order food... the coffee was gross. Don't order it, it was brought to the table cold but I drank it as coffee is coffee. The manager came out as my friends food was pretty unappetizing looking with the congealed gravy on the chicken... They remade his meal and his partners. I was impressed with the manager as you could tell she felt bad and wanted to make it right. The monkey break was a treat that she brought out to the table. I didn't want the calories but my group loved it. Overall, this culinary dropout didn't live up to the hype. We have been to other locations that seem to have their food quality together. This place has some opportunity for improvement. However, the manager is fabulous. She is going to Tucson so this will be a huge loss for this location. Wouldn't say I would be back to this location unless we were doing just drinks and games. read more

Celebrated a friends birthday tonight at the Dropout. The placed was packed. There were 16 of us sitting at the "lounge" area. We each ordered a plate. Most people got the chicken which was fried perfectly. Another friend got the turkey pastrami sandwich and loved it. We had 3 servers and they all did a great job getting our drinks out to us promptly and they were attentive. We played corn hole and ping pong. Over all a great night as usual at the Dropout. Oh yeah, please bring back the mussels to the menu. read more

This place is always so busy so we've tried to go a few times, but couldn't. Finally made it here a couple times! I love the vibe and the concept of this place. They have activities and great brunch on the weekends. It is more of a hangout spot than a place I would prefer to eat. The food was delicious both times I've gone, but a little pricy! Service was a little slow. The time between finishing my food/having the table cleared and then waiting for my check to be brought and then card ran was an extra 30 minutes which kinda sucked. But our server was very friendly! read more

Came with a friend and the environment inside is pretty cool. Screams hipster but our server Matt was super knowledgeable and made great recommendations. I'm not a fan of high chairs but the place has neat decor and it seem that they bands that come and play on the weekend. Only bad was that we ordered the pretzel balls and cheese but got our actual meal arrived first. As a matter of fact, our appetizer never made it to our table. Other than, super cool hangout spot! read more

This place has a lot to offer and works great for a big group- we really enjoyed the cornhole, ping pong tables, and general outdoor space. It's well lit, not overly loud, and spaced for just the right amount of movement and interaction. It's further from downtown than I usually venture, but for dinner and a full night out with a group, it was worth the trek. As a cocktail gal, I wouldn't come back just for drinks. For dinner, I ordered the pierogies, which were covered in a delicious, creamy, vinegary sauce and served with some veggies. It wasn't a huge portion but it was worth it and I'd go for it again if there weren't so many other appealing menu options. I was really disappointed that they were out of bread pudding, but friends and I shared the buttermilk pie instead and it was good. Fans of cheesecake with a fruity touch will love it. My one issue was service in the larger outdoor area. When I arrived, I met up with friends sitting by the bar and was told by staff that I couldn't bring food outside. I sat there for my dinner, but this restriction turned out to be inaccurate and another person served us dessert outside at the one area where our whole group could fit. It seemed a little understaffed at the beginning of the night but I appreciated the help in keeping my friends hydrated. read more

We were seated immediately. I had the fish and chips. The fish was hot and flaky. Definitely recommend!

My first time going to Culinary Dropout and it was worth the hype. I really did love the environment; everything was pleasing to the eye. The food was great! I order the chicken pesto pasta and it was very flavorful with the nacho appetizer. Very favorable! Our server was good and kept on checking up with our needs. Highly recommend going if you haven't tried it out yet read more

Went there on a Thursday evening around 5 pm, sat at booth with uncomfortable chair, asked to move to two different booths but were told they were reserved. Soup was lukewarm, chicken overcooked , biscuit cold and little gravy on potatoes. Waiter removed my son's plate before he was finished. The booth we wanted to move to originally sat empty whole time we were there. I am 65 years old and chair was very uncomfortable.I feel they should have placed us in booth we requested. Fried Chicken was not what I expected.Fish and Chips my son said was nothing special. The waiter was excellent though. You need to get more comfortable chairs. Also need to make your customers welcome. read more

Here's the deal. This place is great. Best meatloaf ever! Except now they're not serving the meatloaf the meatloaf is off the menu. It was the most incredible delicious meatloaf. It came over that way from California to specifically make a stop here for it and it was gone! The tragedy in which my belly felt empty was so disappointing. I even have friends who travels from out of country for this and they too were deprived of this fabulous meatloaf. I truly hope it goes back on the menu read more

This place is great for large parties and the food is good as well. I got the vegan curry and Brussel sprouts and my husband got the Korean ribs and French dip and we both really enjoyed our food. The curry is a little watery but had great flavor. It says it's spicy but I didn't think it was that spicy. read more

I gave this spot 5 stars for the gorgeous space outside and an opportunity to relax for Saturday brunch after a strenuous hike. They premix their cocktails, which didn't allow much wiggle room for substitutions, but they have so many to pick from that you're sure to find something to your liking. We ordered the whipped feta dip and it was ...incredible? We subbed ciabatta for their house-made chips to make it gluten-free and allergen-friendly. Honestly could have had another for my entree. We also tried the nachos (loved the cheese sauce!) and the southwest bowl (chipotle yogurt was a chef's kiss). There was lots of room for kids and families to play as well as open-seating at the outside bar. Can't wait to be back before the weather turns too hot to enjoy it! read more

I came here with a group from work after hearing it was a great place. Entering the restaurant was super confusing (it is the back of the building). The lay out is nice and spacious. We got the whipped feta dip which was fine. I ordered the crispy katsu chicken sandwich with house salad. The salad was fantastic! The chicken was good but I didn't like the sauce (too sweet). Our server was helpful overall. I don't know that I would come back here but maybe I didn't order the right stuff. read more

Came here for dinner a few weeks back. What I really like about this place is that is it spacious. Very easy to social distance while enjoying your meal. Had the harvest kale salad with chicken and soft pretzel with cheese fondue. Salad well seasoned, loved the tahini vinaigrette and the pine nuts. The pretzels were plenty enough to share, super soft, warm and the cheese sauce was awesome. Overall pretty satisfying meal! The whole menu looked good and I need to come back and try other dishes. read more

The best part about this place is the cool vibe and awesome hangout spot with friends or fam. The seating is comfortable, and the service is good. Great big indoor and outdoor open space. Lots of cool outdoor games like cornhole and ping-pong to play. This place is located inside The Yard and shares space with a pizza joint. The appetizers here are pretty good. We had the Gochujang brussels sprouts and soft pretzel & provolone fondue which were amazing. 4 stars. The entrees were not as big a hit as our appetizers. I been here before and the turkey pastrami was pretty good. This time I had the shaved prime rib dip. Not really all that good on flavor I thought. The dip was bland, and the prime rib wasn't all that flavorful. It could stand to be marinated in something to enhance the flavor. My wife had the beer-battered fish and chips, and her complaint was that it was too greasy. The kids had chicken strips which they finished, so that's always a plus. But the ranch, although good, was not the kind of each you would be used to. Very herbaceous, and the taste will stay in your mouth for several hours later. 3 stars. All in all, it's a fun place to come hang out and play, enjoy some appetizers and a few drinks. read more

I was here for lunch on Tuesday, sitting at the bar. Our bartender Autumn was the best I've had in a long time. Especially during a lunch shift. She never left a glass less than half empty. She made sure we felt like the only people there, even though we weren't. Expedited our service so we could make it back to work on time too. I'm not a review type person, but this time it needed to be said. She's a complete asset and a pleasure to see. Only reason we still frequent. read more

I seriously don't even know where to start! I'm visiting here from San Diego for my bachelorette weekend, and my girls and I decided to come here for dinner. We immediately got seated and drinks came quick. Appetizers came, and I kid you not this food was THE BEST FOOD I have ever had. This place is so cute and has tons of fun activities to do, you'll never find yourself bored! Lastly, our server Hailey was incredible! So kind, and very attentive. If you have the pleasure of having her as your server, you'll be so lucky!! I will definitely be back next time in Arizona She was truly a gem, and took our pictures with no hesitation! Loved this place for brunch! Easy to get seated, wonderful service from the hostess and waiter, and incredible food. It is so spacious and cozy, yet modern. Most importantly, every bite felt like it was carefully crafted and plated. Shared the below with my boyfriend and fell in love with every bite. Highly recommend all, especially the curry! Coffee (unlimited refills) Cheddar and potato pierogi Banana French toast Spicy vegan curry (added chicken to it) Southwest breakfast bowl (added carne asada) Monkey bread for dessert My boyfriend also got the Pistols at Dawn and Smashed Irishman cocktails and enjoyed them. He said they were surprisingly strong, and I liked tasting them, too! Whatever school they dropped out from, it's their loss! read more

This place was so cool! I wanted so badly to give a 5 star but there were just a couple of things that missed the mark.... it was SO CLOSE. We had an excellent server, Tucker. He was knowledgeable and was able to give amazing suggestions about the menu. He was friendly and he took great care of us. We went on a Friday evening and we got a table for 6 last minute with no wait which I feel like was such a win. The atmosphere is amazing! The live music was so good and the games were fun, even though we didn't play much had we had longer to be there we would have absolutely taken part of the fun. The food was tasty for sure, however, this is where the small misses started. The appetizer came out at the same time as our food, not the biggest deal, but we had hoped we could have snacked on the charcuterie before dinner. Then, the food came out a little more staggered than we would have hoped. The steak I ordered was cold. The flavors were good, just when it's cold it loses something. The sandwich my wife ordered seemed like it would be full of flavor based on the menu, but it was just so-so... again, not bad, just not as great as we would have hoped. The cocktails were good too, again, maybe nothing out of this world unique, but decent. Over all, I think we would definitely try again. Like I said, the atmosphere and the service really make this place great and the food has a ton of potential. read more

This place was really good. Came at a friend's recommendation and between 4 of us, we split: deviled eggs, brussel sprouts, buffalo chicken wings, pretzel bread and cheese dip, house potato chips. Good food and amazing service! I had the soup of the day, which was tomato bisque. (I was a bit disappointed they didn't have it every day) It was delicious, flavorful, and had a good texture without being too creamy. I also got the soft pretzels & fondue to share, and they were really good. I definitely recommend getting it if you have a group of multiple people. The atmosphere was also really nice, it's in a big open area with fans, a lot of trees surrounding it, string lights hanging from the ceiling and an area with multiple games, such as ping pong. We also had a really good server, he was very attentive throughout and nice. Overall would 100% recommend! read more

I really really wanted to like this place but let me tell you it was a let down. From the host who seemed like she didn't want to be there down to the food . The only good experienced we had here was our waitress. It was loud like extremely loud. It took over 30 minutes just to place my appetizer of how crazy busy it was. When we got our nachos (we had asked for chicken instead of the pork) -- the chicken was extremely cold, we had to get a new round. When we finally got our meals, I thought "hey this looks great" until I saw they added Tomatoes to the salad where I asked for no tomatoes, and the thing about me is I hate to waste food but that's what happen, so sad. The avocado was not ripe at all-- it was the hardest avocado I tasted. So sad I had to rate it so low but I was expecting much more. Sad, would not recommend. read more

Initial impression...looks like a great brunch spot, cool ambiance, very outdoors feel. Then, we sat down. A few issues, coffee not warm...but again, not really a breakfast joint. So, our issues were food related. Food delivery time was a little lengthy, although restaurant not very busy. I had to send my food item back Twice...first time it was incorrect, second time the entree was sitting in a pool of grease. The third time, well it was better. The manager, MK made the experience better by correcting the issues and bringing over an order of Monkey Bread at the end. The monkey bread elevated my review to 3 stars. I will come back here again and give this place a second chance, maybe it was just that the day I visited things were off. Our server was nice, I don't recall his name. Social distancing enforced, COVID safer precautions in effect. read more

Not impressed with the brunch or staff really for that matter. First impressions always count for me when it comes to restaurants. I was finishing up a Starbucks coffee and instead of a "Hi" I get greeted with a sour you can't bring in outside drinks from the Nazi hostess desk girl. Thinking no biggie, I just put in my vehicle. She was fixated on the cup, maybe she needed one. So I go back to walk in and didn't even get a polite "May I walk you to your table outside or help you find your party. Then ordered some brunch. I ordered the chicken eggs and biscuit. Egg were tiny, piece of chicken looked unappealing and the biscuit was rather small. The killer was when I took a bite, it burned. You know that slight burn when something is way over salted? Yeah this was that. Like dipped and soaked in salt. My friends daughter ordered a medium-well dome burger with no veggies and got a charred burger with pickles, tomatoes. Then it was cold out and we asked for the heat lamp to be turned on. Well the propane tank was empty so that was a process. Positive thing our waitress was nice. Lemon, lemon, lemon, this would be a place I would not come come back for anytime soon.
