Came here over the weekend for their Dine Out 2017 menu and had a fabulous time! I especially loved their Negroni with ancho chili (at first I thought they said anchovy and was still equally as excited). Appetizer Steelhead Trout - Loved the addition of the lychee! Albacore Tuna - So fresh, you can never really go wrong with albacore. Entrée #1 Pull Pork Taco - Tender and packed full of flavour. Roasted Cauliflower Taco - This was so good! It compares to Nuba's cauliflower. Entrée #2 Beef Steak - This was my favourite dish of the night. The meat was so tender and I loved how it was served on a warm potato and Caesar salad. Sabelfish - flakey and tender! Dessert Tres Leche Cake was tres bon. Chocolate brownie We sat at the bar and was very well taken care of all night. read more

Cuchillo - Dine Out 2017 - Latin American Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

Came her for Dine Out. Was definitely underwhelming. Ordered Brussels sprouts and guac to share. I had the prawn ceviche, pork taco, sablefish and chocolate mousse. The sprouts and guac were good. Avg pub food. The so-called ceviche lacked flavour, texture and value. There was no acidity, no punch. One 'prawn' split in half on top of a small scoop of mashed potato. Pork taco was good. Felt one note. Braised pork on top of refried beans. Sablefish was undercooked and bland. The crispy yucca tasted stale and over-seasoned. It laid on top of mashed potato and a 1-inch piece of romaine 'caesar'. The chocolate mousse with churro did not provide the cap to the end of the meal. The churro was stale and gummy. Should have been fried à la minuit. It felt like and after thought. The chocolate mousse was silky but the chili favour did not pair well with it. Felt more like a distraction or an attempt to 'elevate' it. The food was too starch heavy. Trying to bulk up the plate with no substance. However, the shining star of the night were the drinks and the atmosphere. The person who crafted the menu should be proud and boastful. It was delicious. Only miss was the drinks on the rocks were mostly ice in the glass. The space has a cool trendy bar vibe. Vibrant without being too noisy. The service was lack lustre. The server was distracted and inattentive. He was gone during out meal and another server checked on our table. The second server seemed more interested and helpful. Based in my experience tonight, I'd won't come back. The food for value isn't there. The service was mediocre. read more

A little weary of Dine Out by now, this was the only restaurant I tried during DOV this year. I can honestly say that I wasn't disappointed. There's no sign with the restaurant's name to be seen anywhere outside...just look for the skull. As you enter the restaurant, it is a large open space with with an open kitchen. Clean and spacious. My mescale cocktail (El Oscuro) was great. Not stingy on alcohol and delicious. I started with the trout ceviche which I found to be bright & zesty. I loved that they served it with crispy skin pieces. It added a nice crunch to the dish. The cucumbers and basil brought a very refreshing note to the dish. Second course was a taco. I had the pulled pork. It was one of the best tacos I ever had, but my wife thought the mole lamb taco that she had was the best. The meats in both were cooked until perfectly tender and the flavors were deep. The mango and papaya salsa in the pulled pork taco added a nice tangy touch. My entree consisted of a steak grilled and sliced to perfection, served on top of ceaser salad and mashed potatoes. The meat was well seasoned, but I thought that the ceaser salad was underwhelming and didn't pair well with the steak. My dessert was fantastic. The tres leche was light and not too sweet. I just wished that it was larger :) We will definitely be back to try their regular menu. And we're inspired to eat more Latin foods. read more

My first time here was for Dine Out so I can't comment on their regular menu. For Dine Out, they served 4 small tapas sized courses. They were small and not very filling; if I'd been hungrier I would've been disappointed. The selection was interesting and though good, not to my taste. I thought the ceviche was too sour and the flavours didn't combine well together, nor with the generous garnish of cilantro. The mole lamb tacos were fun, but I enjoyed the popcorn topping more than the rest of it; the sauce didn't stand out and I think meatballs are an odd shape for a taco (they don't really fill the shell). Third course was the beef chilaquiles which was literally on 2 tortilla chips. The meat was very tender and flavourful but I wish it came with more chips to pair with. And the dessert was not what I expected it to be... yes I had read the pumpkin seed part but I thought it would be more chocolate torte, a dense chocolate cake but it was more like eating a chocolate granola bar. I think some people will probably enjoy the food more than I did but it wasn't to my taste. The space itself is quite lovely and the service was very nice. read more

Came here for our first wedding anniversary. This was the fourth stop in our five stop food tour. We had only the tacos which were amazing. We had the pulled pork taco and also the pulled duck. So good but.. One less star because 6-7 bucks for a taco is kinda steep considering some other taco joints in Vancouver are around 2-3. However these were tasty hence the four stars. If they lowered the price I would come all the time and rate it a five star. If you do wanna eat tacos.. Like I said pulled pork and duck are the ones to get. read more

You just gotta go. Beautiful place with extremely flavourful food with very good quality. Please don't come here if you're on a budget. Beers are $7 (had the Negra Modelo). Two tacos are $10. Ceviche are at least $13. Mains start at $18. They are all perfect. Go for: beautiful food and decor, awesome service, dates Don't go for: budget eats, simple mexican food, some food can be messy to eat? (My friend told me this) read more

Cuchillo - My friend starting eating so I couldn't show you more. Duck taco on the left and the scallop ceviche on the right - Latin American Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

It's a long rectangular restaurant that has low lighting for some intimacy and sexy vibes. I mean, if you're two drinks deep your company will just start to look better as you order another of those delicious margaritas. We came in on a weeknight so I don't think a reservation is necessary. But, I did. I 'm not taking any chances. Weeknight seems to be sparse compared to a weekend. I can see this place being populated on a Friday/ Saturday night. The crew is warm and welcoming. They know what they are doing, what is in every food item in their menu. Am I impressed? Not quite. It's their job but they do it nicely so I am happy. We started with drinks and tuna ceviche. It is filling but not enough to satisfy a person's hunger. They bring in food on a timely manner. It's like perfection. The next entree came in after our last bite of the appetizers. We have tried the steak, bison and pork belly. It was good and filling. This is fun dining. I did not get any "rough" vibes on the neighborhood. There are a lot of people walking after we ate which is at around 10:30PM so I don't get where the other reviewers are coming from. It is on a decent part of town. read more

Last night we had my friends going away dinner here. We asked for them to serve us family style and just paid $35 each and let the kitchen decide. This idea is always daunting to me because I love trying everything but I am quite allergic to dairy and always struggle with being able to share dishes with friends. The waitress was very helpful she made sure the pick items with out dairy (which were absolutely fabulous) and if an item had dairy the kitchen made me my own individual portion. I would definitely highly recommend this restaurant for a date night or a large party of people. Service: Was a bit slow at times but the one on one customer experience was exceptional. Food: Delicious! I highly recommend the guacamole and chicken tacos. Drink: The cocktails are all amazing. If you don't end the night with a tequila flight then you aren't doing it right. Location: The outside is a little sketchy but once you are inside there is such a good vibe and tone set by the decor and staff that makes you want to drink, eat and have fun. read more

Interesting, but really hit or miss with the food. Sablefish on potato salad? Odd. Lamb meatballs with garlic popcorn? Experimental at best. Pulled pork tacos with pineapple chutney? Divine. Cuchillo is an interesting food experience. The food is not authentic by any means, but it is damn creative. The decor is great, service pleasant. Portions are small, the price a bit high, but you can't fault them on creativity. OK experience overall. Glad I came, but would rather go to the Mezcaleria to satisfy my Latin cravings. Worth a try at least once! read more

Friendly staff is meeting you with arrival, which already makes you feel comfortable and appreciated. I'm saying it because I noticed many restaurant's staff became snobby at some places. Doesn't make me feel like going there anymore. Nevertheless, the cocktails are handcrafted and taste really good! First dish I order was a Cali flower appetizer: OMG! Out of another world! Sooooo good. Made me speechless! Also ordered lamb tacos: was ok. Fish tacos - was ok too. Would definitely come back and get the cauliflower appetizer again! And try something else. read more

I have been going to Cuchillo for many years and thought highly of it. However, recently a friend and I decided to host a party in their event space in the basement. Initially things were going smoothly as we were able to go and set up prior to and were told by the owner that we could leave our things there until the next morning where we could help clean up and gather our stuff. Upon returning to the restaurant the next morning, we realize our neon signage was missing. I was the last person to leave the room, had turned off the signs and unplugged them from the wall before closing the door. I knew I didn't steal my own sign, so it had to be one of the only people that had access to the room after we left at midnight. After several back and forth messages, questioning whether one of our guests would have taken it, the owner finally agreed to ask his staff. He replied that they didn't take it. We asked him to check the cameras and he stated "it's out of view." Implying that the cameras don't point to the middle of the room, which we thought could not be true, nor could someone walk away with a large sign without ever being in camera view. After many more messages we were told that a staff member came forward and admitted to stealing it. It just so happened to be the same staff member that accepted payments all night that included auto-gratuity without telling people, thus allowing them to tip an additional 20+% on their bills. It wasn't until my last drink of the night when one of the guests called him out on it that he then admitted to it. This was also the same person who proceeded to guilt trip my friend into an additional $100 cash by saying "just so you know, all those tips are distributed to everyone in the restaurant." Needless to say, this really soiled our experience. We never received an apology, but rather a message that simply wrote "your sign is at the front desk for you to pick up." While picking up the sign, my friend was asked if she wanted a shot or a beer or wine. She thought that was a nice gesture and took them up on their offer as she had just spent thousands of dollars hosting a party with them. I guess, not surprisingly, the server promptly brought her glass of wine with the bill and proceeded to talk about what a great guy the person who stole from us was. After giving this restaurant frequent business over many years, this experience will make me never return or recommend this place to anyone. As a side note, prior to our party we went to the restaurant for dinner and drinks to meet the owner, talk logistics and see the room. While sitting at our table next to the wall, a large rat ran down the wall directly behind my back, running into the kitchen. Maybe we should have taken that as a sign... read more

We were there for Vancouver Eats. 40$ fixed price menu with 4 course, two options each. To start, they sat us next to the bathroom which was perpetually wafting the stench of urine. Between waves of piss-smell there was the unmistakable and strong smell of cannabis, likely coming in through the crack under the emergency exit (next to the bathroom door). The tables were cramped, seats uncomfortable. Chuchillo sells itself as a high end latin food place and i suppose that's what they do but it's to fine food as Pamper's Pull Ups are to underware. Waiting between courses must be like what leafs fans feel waiting to win the cup, ever hopeful but never seriously thinking it's going to happen. Maybe we eat too quickly but i feel like 20 minutes between courses is a bit long. Me: pork belly, pulled pork tacos, Argentine prawns, dolce leche something. Wife: pork belly, pulled pork tacos, bison rib mole, waffel something. About a tenth of an ounce of pork belly on cold mashed potatoes with a smoky spicy maple syrup. Enough to get a taste but to small to enjoy. Pulled pork belly tacos: tortilla was pretty slimy and broke apart; pork everywhere. Disapointed that the tortillas arent house made. Was made spicy for the sake of being spicy. Not great. Argentine prawns were pretty tasty, sitting on top of some sort of fried rice thing. Bison ribs were likely boiled and shredded rather than slow cooked to yumminess. The meat was basically flavourless relied too heavily on the mediocre mole. Sitting on a gooey, slimy, inedible tortilla. Further to this was the strange dollup of mashed sweet potato on the otherwise savory dish. Desert was fine for both of us but quickly and easily forgotten. I.e.: we don't remember what it was. Service was fine but slow. Margarita used bar mix lime. read more

Went back for DOV since we enjoyed it so much last year and albeit, we thought it was very good but not as stellar as last year. We felt it was due to the service as it does affect the dining experience. To our waiter's defense, it was very busy but our cocktails came out well after our appetizers and we had to ask for our cucumber water to be refilled through out. I ordered one of DOV special cocktails, El Sol Arbol as it had mezcal with orange juice, and spicy & refreshing (but it had too much ice). I was hoping to change up what I ordered for Dine Out from last year but with the exception of dessert, I ordered the exact same 3 courses, steelhead trout Ceviche, chicken tacos (2) and wild Argentine sea prawns with corn arepas for main (2) as I did last year. I tried to ask the waiter for his recommendations but it was of no use. The prawns were the star and just as amazing but the trout portion or perhaps the way it was served has changed from last year. The chicken tacos were good also. When I asked which dessert is preferred and which one was less sweet, I felt patronized as he said 'it's dessert, they're both sweet'. I replied last year my dessert was not that sweet. I got the avocado cheesecake presuming the tartness from the avo and lime would balance the sweetness but to call it cheesecake would be a stretch, and my least favorite item of the evening. I should have gone with the rice pudding as my friend got it, and it was much better. read more

Damn it, Cuchillo, your food is so good that I'm still dreaming about it a week later. Now, I'd heard great things about this place, but given that I'd had Mexican food for 2 meals the day before, I figured I should probably switch it up a bit. We attempted to go to a nearby restaurant, but the wait was half an hour and we wanted food NOW. So we took our bikes another few blocks, as Mary W. assured me she hadn't had to wait at Cuchillo before (it was also a Tuesday). Upon arrival I immediately loved the space. It's... upscale-casual, if that makes sense? I felt comfortable in my sun dress but if I wore jeans (never, they are the devil) or a cocktail dress I would have felt just as at home. They have a bunch of lucha libre wrestling posters at the entrance and a friendly host who directed us straight away to a cosy little table by the exposed brick wall. We cuddled in and ordered a couple of cocktails - mine was smooth and balanced, and all too easy drinking, and Mary's was smoky and delicious! We followed those up with a Mojito, and I grabbed one the same drink she got. While we enjoyed our drinks we ordered some appies - on the server's recommendation we got the chipotle salt dusted fry bread, the white bean parmesan fundido, and the blistered padron peppers. She suggested this combo because you can make PIZZA with it. She is a smart woman. I was totally crazy about everything I ate, and wolfed down so much delicious Mexi-pizza. It was quite salty, naturally - I would suggest salting the tortilla chips a little less as the queso fundido provides enough salt on its own. However, this did mean we drank a bunch of water, so that's good! We then ordered the octopus salad, and pulled pork tacos with mango papaya salsa - tell me you don't want to eat those things?? The octopus was a good combo of tender and chewy, and the potatoes and pea shoots really rounded it out. By the time the tacos arrived we were about to explode, so I need to try these again sometime! That said, I ate all of my taco and hot damn was it tender, well sauced, and tasty! The spicy chilis in the salsa perfectly balanced the sweetness of the bbq sauce. Service was great and we absolutely ate our faces off! Definitely somewhere I'll be coming back to time and again! read more

I love when a restaurant is new. Our server was so enthusiastic about the menu - even went as far as describing one of the dishes as sexy. All the staff we encountered were great. A fully satisfied table of 6 we were. Two vegans, a few gfs, & some carnivores. Most notable was that things had distinct flavours from a comparable choice at any other establishment. The hitch, not to be ignored, is the controversy of the particular location in Vancouver's downtown east side and how the community there feels about adding hip restaurant. read more

I came here with girlfriends for what was supposed to be a special birthday dinner, and while we enjoyed the food, we left there feeling disappointed in the off-putting service. Perhaps it was an off night. Initially, we were greeted by a hostess and a couple of servers. They each came by within seconds of each other to say hello, pour us water, let us know we can ask questions, etc. The stuff you'd expect. We asked about how much to order and many people the menu items would accommodate and they offered to create some dishes with 5 serving portions. We ordered our cocktails and I enjoyed a tequila flight. I've had one before at El Azteca which I think I enjoyed slightly more just because of the combination of tequilas I had there, but this was also pretty good. We ordered pork belly tacos, pulled duck tacos with crackling, pan-roasted hearts of palm, and the jicama and pear salad. As Cristina P pointed out, 15-20 minute waits in between dishes coming out was pretty bizarre, but overall the food was tasty. Not to mention, the one server went on break (or went home), and the other server said she was going to be taking over -- but we never really saw her again until we asked for the bill. Too bad because some of us would have ordered more cocktails. All of us would have liked more water. What had started out as attentive service spiraled downhill real fast which is the primary reason for my low review here. Sorry, but service matters as much as the food -- and when the food isn't well-timed in its preparation, that doesn't sway my review despite the bad service. I should mention it was a Sunday night and the place wasn't busy at all, so there's no excuse for it. read more

Went here on Friday night with a group of 8. The service was curt for the most part. The food we actually received was decent. We ordered an assortment of plates to share but one item, a trio of guacamoles never showed up. Since there were 8 of us and we had so many dishes coming at us we just forgot until the bill came. We paid our bills, then noticed we had been charged for, but did not receive our dish. The server essentially called us liars, saying she brought it, and it took three guests in our party to talk to both her and the supervisor to finally get them to admit it never came. At this point we have our coats on and are ready to leave and the offer was we could have the guac now or write our name down to get it on our next visit. As a group of 8, a trip back seemed unlikely, and we were leaving, so we no longer wanted the food. They also did not want to refund our cards since it was a busy Friday night and we had split the food 8 ways. The compromise was drinks that were equal in value to the dish. This worked out to 2 shots of tequila for our party of 8. We accepted anyway because we wanted to be on with our night. As we were leaving I went to the server to thank her for getting it "sorted," and to tell her the food was good. After I say that she turns to me and says "Don't yell at me" and walked away. I was certainly being kind and I was a little shocked at the response I got, especially when I was trying to thank her. The restaurant is about as loud as you would expect on a Friday night so I may have been speaking a little loud but it was in no way aggressive, quite the opposite in fact. Food 4 stars; service 1. read more

This place is so good. Cuchillo is a restaurant straight out of the food scene in Chicago (which is an awesome place by the way). Killer vibe, great food and edgy. Tip ... make a reservation. We came here without reservations on a late weekend evening (9pm) and we still waited over 40 minutes to grab a seat. I'll go through the various dishes that we ordered to keep it quick for those who are looking through the reviews on their phones at this very moment (I know we did!). 1. Sea Salt Dusted Fry Bread - yes GET THIS. This is so incredibly good. It may be the cheapest thing on the menu but don't let the price point deceive you. Just the right amount of salt, every bite was so soft and chewy. I might just go back and order this only. 2. House Guacamole / Chips - maybe Not a bad dish to order while you're all waiting for the other dishes to come in. The guacamole was quite good, and the chips were refillable. 3. Pork Belly - maybe I feel like this dish is a bit overhyped actually. It is good but is it amazing? I'll leave it up to your judgment. It's a decent size and comes in three pieces. 4. Steelhead Trout Cerviche - yes BC twist on the classic cerviche. My friend and I absolutely loved this. Every bite was a delicious concoction of different flavours. Very refreshing. Highly recommend. So would I go back? Definitely. But next time, with a reservation. read more

Very mediocre food. The cassava fries were actually quite bad. They had a very stale texture. The salad we ordered had roughly sliced asian pear, jicama and cucumber - just very, very plain. Would be nice for a group dinner if the food were bettet. read more

Visited for the first time and had a fantastic meal and cocktails. Started with tequila based cocktails and some of the best I have ever had! the server was friendly and casual and provided just the right amount of attention. We had him recommend the food so I am not entirely certain what we ate but I would eat it all again! Fantastic blend of flavours and textures. The one thing I do know is we had the steelhead ceviche and their, what I later learned, famous cornbread. We went later on a Tuesday night so easy to get in. And even though we were pretty much last ones in the restaurant, it never felt like the staff was trying to get us moving. Will absolutely go again and will try the flight of tequila! read more

I was here with a friend for the first time on the weekend, and we had an amazing meal. Read many 5 star reviews about this place so I was excited to try. We came a little before 7 and the place was a bit empty. We thought, oh, guess we didn't need to make a reservation. As the night went on, it got busier but I'm sure you'd still be able to have a seat. They have a rather large space. Good for groups. Many items on the menu sprung out to me as most of them have unusual ingredients that you would not normally see around. I'm always up to explore and tantalizing my taste buds. We started off with the Albacore Tuna Ceviche (3.5/5 - $15), in a tuna stack form. At the bottom was what tasted like potatoes, and some bacon bites (I assume). Not exactly sure what the bluish purple thing is since there's no prominent taste nor texture. It just blended in with the potatoes. I'd assume it's blue corn? In the middle are two tortilla chips and topped with two slices of tuna. The same layering is stacked on top. So you'd get more that what meets the eye. Tuna was good and I liked the textures in the different layers. But it's hard to eat them all in one bite and I think it's missing some umph. Maybe some spice or some citrus notes would help. We then decided to get two mains to start as they told us this restaurant is tapas style and order some more if we felt needed. But don't worry, two mains plus the ceviche filled us up pretty well. For mains we had: -Bison Short Rib (3.5/5 - $21): You get three pieces of these. Presentation was not the best. I think the plating was a bit sloppy and thought they would fix it before bringing it out. Especially in the dark lighting, this dish didn't look too appetizing. At the bottom, there was a biscuit of arepa I believe. I tasted cornmeal. On top was the short rib bone in. The meat around the bone was succulent but the rest was overly dry. There was also too much sauce which did not soak into the meat to give it flavour. I really liked the addition of the chimichurri and jalapeno on top. That gave the dish a refreshing kick after having a heavy bite of the arepa and prune jus. -Pan Roasted BC Sablefish (3.5/5 - $24): Initially I wanted to sub out the pana fritas for yuca fritas. I love yuca fritas but pana fritas just sounded like fries. Our server convinced me that the pana fritas were the perfect pairing for the sable fish. It's a bread-pudding like cake at the bottom and goes well with the coconut cream corn. Indeed it was. Loved the coconut cream corn. Loved the texture of the pana fritas but the sablefish needed a pinch more salt. Oh and of course there was black garlic was smeared on top of the creamed corn but there was no pungent taste. It was almost as if it wasn't there. Great for those who hate garlic breath but still want to be healthy through garlic consumption. Didn't see any drink that really excite me but one of our servers passively wanting me to order one so I succumbed and ordered the first drink on the menu with strawberry infused port (3/5 - $10?). I like port and wanted something fruity so I hoped this drink would do me well. It was ok. Not exactly what I wanted. No strong port flavour and the strawberry was very subtle. I did hinted that I wanted to customize my own cocktail but didn't get much of a response so I guess they don't that here? read more

This is my new favourite restaurant. Holy bananas this place is amazing! I had my 30th birthday dinner here and everyone loved it! They put together a menu for us (they know what is best so we left it to them) so we could share and sample a variety of options off the menu, at what we all deemed to be a very reasonable price per person. The restaurant has wonderful ambiance, a cool gastown vibe and most importantly, some of the best food I've ever had in my life. Latin American food is straight up sexy food, omg. The venue was perfect for our large group party and the service was amazing. Fantastic. A group of us went for a late nibble on Tuesday night. Long after the normal dinner rush. We had to wait for a table (good sign). We were seated at comfy banquet seating right up front, with ample space for all our group. The atmosphere is trendy, yet unique - which is what you want to stand apart from the crowd of formulaic eateries in Vancouver (you know the ones - can't tell apart which one you're in since the staff, furnishings, and decor are all the same). The nacho libre Mexican Wrestling vintage posters in the entry foyer were a nice touch. Communal tables are so European, and so cool, and we simply loved the Skulls motif throughout. And exposed brick that added a warmth (if you didn't fill yourself up with indulgences from the bar or kitchen yet). As for the food? You just have to go try it yourself. The kitchen works miracles. We weren't super hungry, but when we saw the pleasing presentation, we jumped to attention, and began feasting. Our appies were some tacos (pulled pork and lamb mole) - both excellent. The fresh, warm nachos were accompanied by a trio of salsas - each as delightful as the next. The rest of our meal just took it up a notch... Pork bellies (that's right, pork bellies) in a dish you could eat all day. Wow. You need to try that... And their Char Grilled Flat Iron Steak was amazing. Tender, juicy, and flavourful. Grilled just right - it melted in your mouth. We had some excellent margaritas and cocktails... My favourite? A blend of scotch, mescal, and some other fine ingredients, which I'll HAVE to go back for... The highlight of the night? Too numerous to mention... But the dessert, which spiced and sweetened Churros was killer. A must have. I might just go back for dessert alone! Very much recommend this great new establishment. As someone with years in the restaurant industry - and a picky palate - I have to say, places like this don't come along every day. You need to seek them out, and celebrate them, when you have a chance! read more

Man, this place is pretty awesome... Their pork belly is something I keep coming back for. And those tequila flights? Well, you might not remember how good they are if you go overboard, but they are pretty damn good. I have been to this place more than 5 times in the last 3-4 months and that says a lot about it. I like to try a lot of different things and Cuchillo gives you an opportunity to venture off the beaten path with their tapa style meals. It's not every day you run into a place where you can go with your boys for some awesome food and good drinks and then turn around and take your girl for a nice dinner. Cuchillo's is one of those places and I plan on coming back. read more

We went in and asked the server to just bring us food. We laid out the foods we didn't like and left ourselves trustingly in Cuchillo's hands. It was the best dining experience I've had in many years. Started off with the duck taquerias, followed by a chorizo and scallop dish that had creamed corn made in house. I was sold at that point, but my favorite dish came later in the form of an amazing jumbo prawn dish on beds of parmesan corn cakes (apologies to the chef if that's not totally accurate). We tried their pear mojito and the Dulce de lece too and both bore mention here. Overall atmosphere was very chill and we were greeted by the manager at one point. It's a cool room with black iron and nifty mosaics all over the place. Great experience and a cool place for a date or party. read more

Great food. Unique ambiance. Good service. The tacos were super yummy, especially the lamb and BBQ pork. My only complaints are the puny amount of tequila you get in a flight and some of the tables are squishy. I would definitely go back.... Again. read more

Cuchillo - Latin American Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

What a great find for wonderful Latin/Mexican fusion food in Vancouver. We came here based on an article on the best Latin tapas places in the city. http://www.vancouverisawesome.com/2016/03/07/hunting-down-latin-goodness/ We have been to the two other places on the list previously and were not completely impressed, so naturally we had to complete the list by visiting Cuhillo as well and I have to say this is by far the best one on the list. The drinks menu is impressive, with a great selection of cocktails and wine. I began my meal with a mojito which was delicious and beautifully presented as well. I believe we ordered the perfect amount of food for two people - an appetizer, tacos and a main. Started the meal with the tuna cerviche, which I would say is less of a cerviche and more of a slightly seared tuna on potatoes - delicious nevertheless with a great juxtaposition of texture and flavours. The second item was the duck tacos - oh my! Can't say I would usually order duck as tacos but the flavour was great and it was not overly fatty as that would be number one issue with ordering duck in restaurants as sometimes you take the first bite of your delicious meal and end up with a mouth full of duck fat :| Bison Short Rib was next on the list of our meal; the short ribs were tender and full of flavour and the meat fell right off the bone - love the tamales as a starch to accompany the meat, nice change from the usually potato. Overall I would say I was extremely impressed by my meal and cannot wait to add Cuhillo to our rotation of favourite restaurants in the city. Under $80 for 2 people with drinks and 3 dishes so the value of the meal is a positive point as well. read more

3 people looking to have a cocktail before a play around the corner, hostess won't seat us at empty tables even after we agree to pay for an appy (they were tables for 2). Also won't let us sit in 3 seats at the bar (would have required asking ONE person to shift over). Extremely disappointing service. When we asked her if there was anything nearby she pointed and said, "There's stuff down there I think." I would cheers to the hostess' incompetence but in ever got a cocktail... read more
