    Rainbow Cookies
    Peter D.

I'm not going to waste your time here: Cuccio's has the best rainbow cookies I've ever had. You may know them as tricolore (which would be incorrect because there are at least five colors on these things - maybe that's the secret). You may be skeptical. You may not even like Italian cookies; I don't, usually. But these are the truth. My neighbor knows a thing or two about a thing or two, and he brought these over to my place once...now every time I head down the Belt Parkway, I'm either getting these cookies, or thinking about getting these cookies. You should too. The sfogliatella are also awesome.

Great old school bakery, pastries are fresh and there is a wide selection of regular and mini size items. Only down side is that the place is cash only. Tried the chocolate cannoli, regular cannoli, lobster tail, and cheese cake slice. All were excellent.

I think I just found the best Italian bakery in New York City, and it is in the backyard of where I spent a good portion of my childhood. Hard to believe, I know. But here it is. Only a five minute walk from the Avenue X subway stop on the F train, Cuccio's might just be, "The One". All the bakery items have that deep, delicious taste, and a size of all their pastry items for all appetites, whether you like things small or large, decadent or rich, they have it. It will be hard to order just one item here. The rainbow cookies? Yep, they sell them, and they are terrific. The lobster tail? With French cream? You bet. Fruit tart? That is a bit dense, but the fruit is so fresh and beautifully layered, that they make the whole thing a mouthwatering experience. Even their black and white cookie is delicious. How about a jelly donut bursting with jelly? There are not many bakeries that do not anymore, but this one does! The girls who service you are cute and smart. They are patient and have that Brooklyn decisiveness they would make any future mother in-law squirm. Telling, huh? As for payment, cash only. Again, cash only. You have been warned... twice. I think it will be hard to top this one. I hope you will agree if you stop by.

Local mom and pop bakery in the forgotten part of Brooklyn, Cuccio's a no frills sweet shop that have everything for everyone. Place has been around since 1937 and it kinda shows, but that's the charm. You know what else is charming? The crazy 7-layer rainbow cookie! They're pretty good and so beautiful! Serious question though: at what point do you stop calling them a cookie and say they're cake?? They're essentially a cake that have been cut up into bits so you can hold between your fingers but hey, if they've always been called a cookie then carry on and shove em down my greedy mouth! Whenever I stop by an Italian bakery, I would always get two important items: the colorful morsels (rainbow cookie/cake) and the pignoli cookies (hello pine nut heaven). I walked away with those two bad boys as well as a few other things for the family and the price is just right. If I didn't live so far away I would surely be handing fistful of cash every weekend for their decadent desserts!

I come to this bakery often as it is a block away from my house. It's honestly a hit or miss. It use to be your friendly neighborhood bakery, but now it feel a little impersonal. I mostly come for the bread that is very fresh but tends to sell out quickly. I dont feel like they make enough during the day. The service is ok Nothing to rave about. I dont think they are nice or rude. Just kind of do their job and take the next customer. They have been open throughout the pandemic and I give them a lot of credit for that. And they are trying their best to enforce social distancing and masks.

Picked up a couple of cakes last night for my motherS birthday today. Opened up the box today to celebrate and saw mold on one of the strawberries. We have been Cuccios customers since 2000 and unfortunately this isn't the first time something like this has happened. If John is still the owner he needs to make sure his employees have better quality control over the cakes. When I worked here in the early 2000's we had similar problems due to negligence on our part but I would assume that this would have been corrected long ago. Definitely an unhappy experience. Also, the cakes were kept in the fridge overnight. The second cake was fine, however this one is all sorts of struggling.

Hire friendlier employees, no signs tell you where to stand. The girl doesn't talk at all. Great deserts! Not great service

The Boston cream had a rich, smooth filling with the perfect chocolate glaze, and the strawberry sprinkles donut was perfectly sweet and nostalgic. What makes this place special is that it's both affordable and consistently delicious! They have all the classic flavors but also some specialty donuts if you want to try something different. The old-school ambiance gives it a real Brooklyn charm, and it feels like stepping back in time. Just remember to bring cash because it's cash only; but it's absolutely worth it.

They were young, energetic, and a hard working bunch, Eastern European sounding . They are fierce in their added charges at the register- the likes of which I have never seen in the coffee shop/ donut world. First & Last visit. Too mich of a culture clash. How I was treated here would not fly or last One minute in North Shore Nassau -.But here in Brooklyn this is a bustling coffee & donut shop with all seats taken and a line for take out. Donuts & coffee both good - Good. Experience a no go. They were pre- occupied with added fees. it's all they mentioned with each donut picked. It went like this - "A dozen doughnuts please" and I began pointing at quite regular looking donuts (all in the same rows) or so I thought. " thats a dollar extra" ( boston creme) hm ok " thats a dollar extra" ( coconut creme) hm ok " thats a dollar extra" ( boston creme stick) hm ok " thats a dollar extra" ( french cruller white icing hm ok " thats a dollar extra" (french cruller chocolate icing) hm ok " Two small coffees also please " HM are those the small?? I kid you not they were TINY kid sized The cup size I have never seen before. They must special order them for samples or something. Ok so "They are wayyy too tiny so - medium please" Out came the typical small sized cup - Hmm so ok. Let's ring and go I'm thinking. Next the woman is struggling with a paper by the register trying to figure out the coat of this dozen donuts (plus five with her added $1's) - then more struggle and I said " it's a dozen plus $5" thats $29.50". "Oh no you don't have a dozen". Apparently the extra $5 disqualified my "dozen". I know what you're thinking but No- no special donuts from some other case - no coffee rolls etc - i'm a NY'er and know a donut from a special roll etc. You need to buy five more for a dozen. "Oh? No, I have a dozen and am paying you five up charges as you stated." Next thing she is ringing the donuts individually Plus the extra $5 Which makes NO sense. But gets her another added $5 or so. Why would they keep quoting me add ons to my dozen if no dozen existed once you added a Boston creme etc. She raced to the manager. The Brooklynites thought ne a mean old lady for saying you're overcharging me'. The manager flew over - a young man huffy and emphatic that the five very ordinary donuts that were $5 more converted my dozen to a different price per donut. Then they said something funny to me - "would you like me to take those out and give you regular donuts?". No. (See update for more) " No those are the ones I want " but you just over charged me - I'll take them. But you are overcharging me. Thank you. Holy mackerel - just glad to be on the way out WITH the donuts of course- I was not furious or anything- and the donuts were never at risk- I'd not walk out on the donuts - My advice is to be more transparent in pricing and not deem very basic donuts special donuts - making your customers feel ripped off.- Better just to charge more for the dozen. And.. like other shops put any supposed special donuts in a special donut area - like coffee rolls, big fritters etc. That's how it's Typically done. This is New York! You can't pull that here. This is a place where people pay $6 for a good cookie. They are not cheap. Don't be weird at the register. And those cups Come on - are you KIDding me - pun intended. I left holding on to my wallet a lot tighter. And that is not NYstyle. I felt like some war was on and was ready to start stacking change. I'm also half Italian! So for me - This was one weird cheapskate experience. So that's my review. --------------------Update - Follow up to reply ------------------------------- Hi Demetrios, Thank you for replying. I generally stay positive on reviews. Like I said it was the aggressive way I was treated that was the no go for me. What I left out of the review was worse! For instance - your counter person began reaching to open the box saying she was taking out donuts to replace them with others. She grabbed the box and actually began getting ready to fling donuts around. It was totally weird. Had she actually not stopped trying to untie when asked I would have not taken them. It weirded me out. You say you keep the business the same since 1993? Well where is the Jelly Stick? A New Yok classic. So much for keeping it the same. Its on the sign over the counter and you don't make them any more .. so It is Not the same as it once was. Got ya! jk. And no.. no no.. I am Never mean or rude... just willing to say something. Ok so the coffee.. if its really $1 I get it.. its a nice gesture to your customers... they had something like that in Montauk.. a tiny beer for $1 at a place called Liar's Saloon. So ok.... right on you. Update /3
