    Mouse droppings everywhere.
    Greg W.

After storing my belongings at this location for two years at considerable expense, I moved out recently only to find tons of mouse droppings and the corpses of three mice in my unit. The staff member I spoke with said that he would file a incident report and that I should look to the insurance policy I purchased from Cubesmart to get compensated for any damage to my property. He even mentioned that management at this location had been changed a year ago because they weren't doing proper pest control. I filed my claim, only to find out that Cubesmart's "protection" doesn't cover rodent damage of any kind. So I'm left picking up the cost of professionally cleaning my damaged upholstered furniture. I think it is completely unacceptable behavior for a company to claim to provide clean, controlled environments for the storage of belongings and then provide no compensation whatsoever to renters when they fail to live up to that promise.

    inspection expired 7 years ago

If you enjoy being trapped for hours in a pitch-black elevator with no ventilation or communication with the outside world, this is the place for you! That happened to me, and while the power outage was due to a storm, what happened before and after was pure negligence by Cubesmart. First of all, the elevator displayed an inspection certificate that expired seven years earlier. A nearby elevator had the certificate ripped off the wall. (See photos.) The emergency communication system, which is required by law, did not work. There was also no emergency phone number in the elevator. The only toilet in the building was out of order for days (see the photo). There were alarms and lights for failed fire pumps going for days (see photo). As other reviewers have pointed out, there is also a serious problem with rats and mice in the building. This, coupled with management that doesn't give a f*ck about customer safety is reason to go somewhere else to store your precious stuff. I have spent about $10,000 storing stuff at Cubesmart over the past four years, and have written positive reviews about another location, but this one is an awful place.

Clear rat droppings all over the ground
    R M.

Personally saw a rat inside my unit after visiting after 8 months, in addition to lots of rat droppings. Extremely frustrating, as I had been expecting a generally clean facility with robust pest control if required, after moving out of a pest-free 18th floor apartment. Am simply storing furniture, electronics, clothing and kitchenware inside the unit. Additionally, local or regional management failed to reply to my inquiry as promised, and had to leave the state to return to work. I am still left wondering what will be done to remedy the situation. The idea of rats rummaging through all my boxes and items sucks, to say the least. To top it off, prices have increased across the board as well. If I had any indication that this storage facility had pest issues, I would have never rented this storage unit.

UPDATED REVIEW FOLLOWING FEEDBACK FROM SROA: Their District…read moreTeam Lead, Jessica Weaver, gave me a call following their below response to discuss pricing and the facility. She did a very great job of working with me and helping lower the rate from the potential $337 increase from $259, to offering me a $175 rate for the troubles. I have agreed with this and after discussions with her I agreed to update my review with this feedback, but I did advise I was not able to move it to 5 stars due to the still constant issues with the grounds of the facility. But 5 star customer service for sure for following through quickly and giving me the rate offered. With facility improvement it will for sure be 5 stars, which I'll gladly update it to. I am leaving some of the original review just for background to see what the Team Lead helped with. Edited Original Review: Storage rate began 9/2022 at $61/m for first 3 month promo than went to $122. Increased to $197 in 2/2023, then $230 8/2023, then $259 6/2024. And before the assistance of the District Team Lead, it was going to jump to $337 starting 9/2025 (see new review above). The facility needs a lot of work on the grounds, especially the 10 foot long pothole. Pavement on the roads around the units are not fantastic and could be better, it is still not climate controlled or anything. I'm a retired and 100% disabled veteran and they don't even offer anything to help with the cost of these units to us. They only offer discounts for Active-Duty military.

There appears to be minimal security on this place so don't like coming here at night. Definitely wouldn't want extended hours here. The gate to let vehicles in and out is the only security on the property besides some barbed wire on the fencing and a couple video cameras that may or may not work. But most importantly, the staff are super rude. Arrived mid morning and couldn't get the door up that goes to the inside storage facilities. Even scraped my fingers trying to get the latch open. Went to get the property manager and was made to wait for several minutes while she went to do who knows what. There were no other customers on the property. She got the latch open, but didn't say anything just walked away before I could even get out of my vehicle. I would've thanked her for her help, but she walked away without even letting me know she had opened the latch. At first I thought maybe she was going to get tools but then I realized the bolt was moved. I came back this evening after dark and a car turns into the driveway in front of me but the pulls off to the side until I go past. Then this car pulls behind me at the gate, which is super sketchy, so that I have to open up the gate. I use the app to open the gate, but I don't want to let some unknown vehicle in after me. Especially one that's acting very suspicious. It's a deserted place and I'm concerned about my safety. Turns out it's the same employee. She comes up and identifies herself (the vehicle is not marked and she's wearing a winter coat so I don't see her lapel insignia right away but as soon as I realize it's an employee, I move forward so she can get in. No problem as long as I know it's an employee. This is also after office hours are long over so it being an employee is not who I'm expecting). But she then comes and asked my unit number to put in a complaint for me because I wouldn't let her in the gate. I did as soon as I realized she was an employee, but I'm sorry I don't want to let somebody I don't know into the property behind me without their own access code. That's a safety issue. All the other Public Storage say don't open the doors for others, don't let other people in--and this employee is upset because I don't wanna let some unknown car in behind me. Any complaint on me is unfounded, but I'm already going to look for a new place to rent. Also, the latch only fit a specific size of locks and I don't know if they'll let me trade for the locks I already have that have worked for every other Public Storage unit.

I worked with a different moving company 2 years ago that left me scarred for life with how rude and unprofessional they were. I ended up having to finish the job myself (moving my giant couch up four flights of stairs), so when I knew I was moving again, I did my due diligence and sought out a few quotes. Another company quoted me almost $800 and required a 3 hour minimum for the job!! $800 seemed steep and I knew the job wouldn't take that long... Along came Bookstore Movers who quoted me a reasonable $470 minimum for two hours of work and a maximum of $680 for 3.5 hours of work (price breakdown: $140 per hour with 2 hour min. plus a $190 truck fee). I received a quote within a few hours of requesting it. There was no deposit required and the date was booked. I received detailed emails leading up to the move about FAQs, tips for a seamless move, and the names of my crew including contact info for the crew lead. Abdul (crew lead), Niiwayo "Y.O", and Milly were SO fast and friendly. They wrapped every single item with care in drop cloths and got to moving immediately. Despite the 90 degree heat and a total of five flights of stairs, the job was finished in 2 hours. I was SO impressed. I was so traumatized by my last move that I literally had to walk away while they moved the couch in but before I knew it, I got a text from my boyfriend telling me they had fit it through the door and our living room was all set up. I was so relieved and happy to work with them. If and when we move again, (hopefully not anytime soon, lol), I will 100% be contacting Bookstore Movers... and you should too!

I submitted a move out in December but scheduled the actual move for Jan 3rd because I couldn't move out on New Years Eve. I thought surely I wouldn't be charged the full month if we only used 3 days in January. However on Jan 3rd, I received a charge of $460 for the full month of January. I called the office to confirm I would get a partial refund and was told "I can't prorate and we don't prorate". I explained we had been customers since 1985 and after some back and forth it was obvious they had no intent to refund or discount part of the month's charges. That means instead of paying $44.49 for 3 days of usage, we paid $153.33/day in January. Also, I and my family have rented units from public storage for 40 years. Sometimes we had 1 unit, others we had as many as 3 units but the money paid to Public Storage is roughly $200,000 over that 40 years. Rent has always gone up here an there but about 8 years, Public Storage started an obscene fee increase campaign which resulted in about $50/mo to $100/mo increases every year. My mom is retired and on a fixed income. As a result, we started spending every Christmas holiday purging things from our storage units. However, because city living is so tight we would always require some form of external storage. With the high costs of moving facilities we never had much choice but to accept the increases. A couple years ago, I learned Public Storage was charging new customers a quarter of the rent they had charged us for years. I periodically checked and new customer rates are still much much lower than existing customers. So as a big thank you to long term customers for spending so much, they give discounts to new customers and drain us financially. So now after 40 years, I'm done. I will NEVER RENT FROM PUBLIC STORAGE AGAIN, I'm moving my elderly mother out of the unit she just rented and I will make sure everybody in the U.S. learns of our experience and DON'T rent from them. Signed, VERY dissatisfied and customer never again!

What initially appears to be a reasonable monthly rate quickly turns into a classic bait-and-switch situation. Most people who rent a storage unit plan to keep it for several months or longer. However, after only about three months, the price of the unit increased by nearly 60%. That kind of sudden jump is something most customers would never reasonably budget for when signing up. To make matters worse, the company sends out a generic postcard apologizing for the "inconvenience" while claiming increased operational costs are being passed on to customers. In reality, it feels like a tactic used to lure customers in with a low introductory price and then dramatically raise the rate once your belongings are already locked inside. These types of excessive and unpredictable price increases are unacceptable for a service people rely on for stability and planning. If you are looking for storage in the Alexandria area, look elsewhere

They advertise that they have cameras, yet…read morethey do not have cameras located in any of the interior storage hallways, nor on the outside drive lanes. My unit was broken into, as well as several other units. The managers flatly refused to provide a copy of the incident report, or access to any supposed video surveillance so that I could complete a report to Alexandria PD. Additionally, the "insurance" that you are forced to pay for when renting a unit is a complete scam. They do not actually cover anything valuable. The facility has no security, anyone can just walk right into the storage buildings. My unit was clearly ransacked over a period of time, the lock broken off. The management put a plastic lock band on the door, but never once called or notified me that the lock was missing. When I discovered the lock gone and the unit broken into, the management lied directly to me about having checked and not noticed anything wrong. Would have left zero stars if I could. Do yourself a favor and don't take the risk of falling prey to this gang of thieves.
