FINALLY a new place opening up on South Side that ISN'T a yogurt place. After Yogurtland moved in, every new establishment in Berkeley has been a remake of it, with Pinkberry to open its doors soon. However, CREAM (Cookies Rule Everything Around Me...awesome acronym) is a concept out of the ordinary that I've only seen at UCLA. I love the fact that they have such a huge variety in cookies, and even more variety in ice cream. Although I do wish they had more flavors that appeal to my taste (such as blueberry or rocky road), they're here to cater to the greater UC Berkeley student community, and not just me. I ordered a sandwich with a huge scoop of cherry vanilla ice cream in between two fresh out of the oven, moist, soft, and delicious rocky road cookies. Some people have complained that their cookies were too hard, but I guess it really depends on how long they've had them out for. Being a new place, I'm sure it's tough for them to predict how many cookies to make so that they don't dry up too fast, but they'll get the hang of it soon. Two things that I would complain about. First of all, everything was just too sweet for my taste. Don't get me wrong; it was an amazing experience, but just such a huge sugar rush at one time. The other thing is the cashier was a bit clueless at times. I handed him $2, and he asked me for $.50. I thought it was because they were out of change, but he just happened to drop one of my dollars and insisted that it was my fault. Only after about a minute of assuring him that I paid $2, he looked on the ground and saw the other dollar. It happens from time to time, but his attitude was a bit defensive. If you have an event and want to order CREAM, prepared to be RIPPED OFF. I emailed in an order of 100+ cream sandwiches for pick up for a decal that I'm teaching at Cal. I was emailed back by a representative, "Tag", who took down my information. For 135 Cream sandwiches they were to charge $560 and a 6% charge on top of that. The Instore price that they charge for customers is $2 each. When I asked "Tag" why this was the case, she said that by me giving them business, they would have to take off 2 employees that could serve other customers. Tag clearly explained to me that the $4+ price for each cream sandwich THAT I WAS GOING TO PICK UP was because I would be an inconvenience to them because clearly I am not a customer because I am being charged a higher price. Cream, it does not take long to prepare ice cream sandwiches, I see you prepare one every 5 seconds. If "serving customers" was a problem, make my order after closing and freeze it (which you are doing anyway) and charge the $2 price (or even cheaper because its bulk). "Tag's" logic also does not make sense, if 100 people walked into the store at one time and bought the creamwiches, why should they get charged cheaper than me buying in bulk? The DOUBLE price that they charge is ridiculous and noone charges more expensive when purchasing in bulk. This practice is shady. Being from SoCal of course I would compare this to Diddy Riese. In my opinion, neither serve extraordinary cookies or ice cream. Cream has more unique ice cream flavors (rose water/pistachio, etc), but when I went I was served two UNfreshly baked cookies--AKA crunchy. I prefer the warm, soft, chewy cookie. There was no line so maybe that's why the cookies weren't as fresh, since they'd been sitting around until a customer comes. I remember the first time I went here; it was almost 3 years ago (or even longer?!) and the hype was REAL. The line was long, it wrapped around the building... But I mean, you can't go wrong with an ice cream cookie sandwich. The cookies were yummy and warm and the ice cream choices are unique. I used to get one white chocolate macadamia nut and one chocolate chip cookie with salted caramel ice cream. Now it looks like you can add your own toppings! However, if I'm in town, I don't go out of my way to get in line for CREAM. I feel that there are better dessert places out there. Plus, you could make this simple dessert at home. read more

The line here is always super long compared to the one in walnut creek. I stopped by here twice (both pretty late at night) and the line is always out the door and around the corner, but it goes by pretty quickly. I normally order the peanut butter cookie sandwich with vanilla ice cream, and of course, it is delicious! (How could you go wrong with delicious ice cream sandwiched between two warm cookies??) Two stars for the I've cream. But certainly didn't appreciate being told about "customers that don't tip" and being made to feel bad if I didn't give a tip. For the record I was going to tip anyway as I always do even WHEN NOT ASKED FOR ONE. Tips are for great customer service and that girl was just plain irritated to be at work and it was obvious. Try to understand that tips are not a part of your salary, but a treat if and when they come in. Maybe try a different type of a job? OMG WOW This place is awesome! Where was this place when I was still at Cal? It used to be a beard papa that didn't do so well. It's basically a make your own ice cream sandwich place. The man and woman who are working there are very cute and the guy making the sandwiches was very charismatic/funny. You basically pick your cookie, there's about 8 or so choices (I went with double chocolate) and then pick your ice cream which there was about 20 choices or so (I went with the strawberry cheesecake). The best part, only $1.50 for a sandwich wow! The sandwich was great, the cookies are fresh baked in the store and still warm which slowly melts the ice cream when sandwiched in between the cookies. The concept, the price, the TASTE, awesome. There is nothing bad to say about this place. Although with the college student price of $1.50 also means that it's prime spot for homeless. As the line went outside the door, a couple of homeless guys kept asking for change. You couldn't say no I don't have any because the place only takes cash. It's also a prime spot for them to get sandwiches as the homeless guy stood behind me in line and a little TOO close in my bubble. Other than that, no complaints, I highly recommend! read more
