We swung by on a Saturday night and found a loooooong line of CAL kids. Ugh. Luckily the line wasn't that slow. I had just enough time to read John B's review and was super excited to find the shelf of vegan cookies still full, including the snickerdoodles. They offer two types of vegan ice cream - mint chip and vanilla. I really, really wanted pumpkin but I'm glad I was still able to have a choice. Being from SoCal of course I would compare this to Diddy Riese. In my opinion, neither serve extraordinary cookies or ice cream. Cream has more unique ice cream flavors (rose water/pistachio, etc), but when I went I was served two UNfreshly baked cookies--AKA crunchy. I prefer the warm, soft, chewy cookie. There was no line so maybe that's why the cookies weren't as fresh, since they'd been sitting around until a customer comes. Good enough to give a 4.5 solid star rating after waiting over 30 minutes in line on a cold night. I'm a wimp when it is cold so this is saying a lot. Delicious, fresh, soft warm cookies and rich ice cream= A match made in heaven and only for $2.00! No matter the combo you choose it will all taste great and leave you in a sugar coma. FINALLY a new place opening up on South Side that ISN'T a yogurt place. After Yogurtland moved in, every new establishment in Berkeley has been a remake of it, with Pinkberry to open its doors soon. However, CREAM (Cookies Rule Everything Around Me...awesome acronym) is a concept out of the ordinary that I've only seen at UCLA. I love the fact that they have such a huge variety in cookies, and even more variety in ice cream. Although I do wish they had more flavors that appeal to my taste (such as blueberry or rocky road), they're here to cater to the greater UC Berkeley student community, and not just me. I ordered a sandwich with a huge scoop of cherry vanilla ice cream in between two fresh out of the oven, moist, soft, and delicious rocky road cookies. Some people have complained that their cookies were too hard, but I guess it really depends on how long they've had them out for. Being a new place, I'm sure it's tough for them to predict how many cookies to make so that they don't dry up too fast, but they'll get the hang of it soon. Two things that I would complain about. First of all, everything was just too sweet for my taste. Don't get me wrong; it was an amazing experience, but just such a huge sugar rush at one time. The other thing is the cashier was a bit clueless at times. I handed him $2, and he asked me for $.50. I thought it was because they were out of change, but he just happened to drop one of my dollars and insisted that it was my fault. Only after about a minute of assuring him that I paid $2, he looked on the ground and saw the other dollar. It happens from time to time, but his attitude was a bit defensive. Moving back to the Bay Area, I was a little bit too excited when I remembered Berkeley has a CREAM location. I could go on and on about how much I love this place. Their pricing is great. $3 for an ice cream sandwich. Which is even better when you consider the quality. They live up to the cream name with the creaminess of their ice cream; and their cookies are soft and delicious. Between the diverse offerings of cookie and ice cream flavors, plus the plethora of toppings, there are literal endless possibilities of what you can make here. And that's without even considering their other products like cronuts, milkshakes, and ice cream tacos. If you have an event and want to order CREAM, prepared to be RIPPED OFF. I emailed in an order of 100+ cream sandwiches for pick up for a decal that I'm teaching at Cal. I was emailed back by a representative, "Tag", who took down my information. For 135 Cream sandwiches they were to charge $560 and a 6% charge on top of that. The Instore price that they charge for customers is $2 each. When I asked "Tag" why this was the case, she said that by me giving them business, they would have to take off 2 employees that could serve other customers. Tag clearly explained to me that the $4+ price for each cream sandwich THAT I WAS GOING TO PICK UP was because I would be an inconvenience to them because clearly I am not a customer because I am being charged a higher price. Cream, it does not take long to prepare ice cream sandwiches, I see you prepare one every 5 seconds. If "serving customers" was a problem, make my order after closing and freeze it (which you are doing anyway) and charge the $2 price (or even cheaper because its bulk). "Tag's" logic also does not make sense, if 100 people walked into the store at one time and bought the creamwiches, why should they get charged cheaper than me buying in bulk? The DOUBLE price that they charge is ridiculous and noone charges more expensive when purchasing in bulk. This practice is shady. I came, I ate, I pondered. What was the hype all about? Did I miss something? Alas, I've once again been swayed by the high ratings on Yelp. I don't really understand what they hype is all about for CREAM. First of all, the cookies aren't anything special. If anything, they're especially hard. I'm not usually opposed to a crisp cookie, but in an ice cream sandwich, it just doesn't work. The zen art of ice cream sandwich making was just completely off. There was too much crunch to cream ratio. With one bite, the contents of my cold confection came oozing out. Which now leads me to the ice cream... For four stars, it wasn't anything noteworthy. Fresh cookies, soft or crispy.....you decide, but either way they are delicious! This time I ordered the turtle and double chocolate chip with It's a goody. I enjoyed it except for little bits of hardened toffee from the turtle cookie. But the cookie by itself is awesome! Just not meant to be with ice cream unless you have strong teeth or like it really crunchy. It's a good was so good! I also got the chocolate milk to go with my ice cream sandwich which was already filled with TONS of chocolate. I think I OD'ed on chocolate that day.....I couldn't finish my chocolate milk :( it was so good, but my body can only handle so much at once! But it was all worth it. 3.8 Stars! Wow! A little heaven in my mouth for $2! NO way! Yes way! *_~ Me- very happy ah! Fresh warm cookies with ice-cream. How can something so yummy be soOo bad for you?? Anyways, I really like the idea that we get to choose the cookies and ice-cream we want. When we got there, we were very lucky b/c there were only 3 customers in front of us, which gave us time to figure out what we wanted. By the time we order there was a long line around the corner. YIKES! Downside: You gotta eat your ice-cream sandwich fast before it melts! They charge $2.50 if you pay with credit card, which is still a very good price. First of i like Good Food, and let me tell you this that this was the best ice cream sandwich i have had in a long time. Me and a group of friends went there around 8pm, the service was great & very friendly. I ordered the Turtle cookie with vanilla cookies and cream ice cream. It was amazingly good, the cookie was soft and chewy, and the ice cream was full of flavor. Each bite i took, gave me visions of my childhood when sitting outside on a hot day eating ice cream. Also how can you beat the price $2, something this good and only for $2.......................it is definitely worth it................so i advise you that if you want a awesome ice cream sandwich go to CREAM and enjoy the day. read more

Cookies rule everything around me!!!( litterally this is a problem) lol I've been coming to this cream location for a few years now... They always have a line out the door even at 11 p.m. ... which I don't mind because they know how to get you in and out... So you're never waiting too long to get your cream choice. I usually go for the macadamia nut cookie with coconut ice cream... on my last visit they did not have coconut ice cream... So I decided to go with their toffee butterscotch ice cream with the macadamia nut cookie... Since I checked in with Yelp I was able to get a free topping...I went with the Butterfinger Boy oh boy oh boy.... I was actually surprised it was a great combination not too sweet... I must say that this is some genius and unique idea of a business and after passing it up so many times, I finally got to try my first bite of this praised ice cream sandwich. Now before ordering, the staff maintained a fun atmosphere by singing and dancing along to the good selection of music, which made me want to join them and it sure looked like they enjoyed their job. When I got my strawberry shortcake ice cream sandwiched between two chocolate turtle cookies, I was speechless. The guy at the cash register asked me how was it and all I could give him was a thumbs up. Turns out I had chocolate all over my face and my sister didn't bother to tell me until after that confrontation with the cashier, but the cookies were warm and gooey and delicious.
