Three of the machines didn't have any flavors, but they had my personal favorites: pineapple dolewhip and original tart. I also got the cookies and cream and dulce de leche, but they were too sweet for my liking. I don't need a marketing team to try and convince me otherwise. Real strawberries, no artificial colors, no artificial flavors, no high fructose corn syrup, nonfat, lowfat, gluten free, live and active cultures! These were all the terms I saw on the different fro-yo options. The more they try to come off as not that bad, the worst it looks. Like I enjoy skittles, but if they started bragging about how they are vegan and cholesterol free on their packaging, it'd be a little off-putting. This place is THE WORST. Has the WORST EMPLOYEES and the WORST customer service. One of the employees was a very RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL old lady. We came in and saw she had an attitude with her other coworker who was a nice gentleman. We grabbed 4 cups for the family and my brother filled his cup to the brim where it was almost spilling off the sides. As we were done with toppings and about to pay, my brother licks off his ice cream off the side so it doesn't spill and make a mess and the lady goes, " HEY, stop licking the sides , I saw you since you were filling it you've been licking it and that's NOT okay." My brother who is 15 replied nicely and told her he only licked the sides so it doesn't make a mess and she said no you aren't. I jumped in and told her she could be nicer about it and claimed she was even though everyone in there saw the way she yelled at this 15 year old boy. I told her to not talk to him and if she had anything to say she could take it up with me as he's only a child. The gentleman working alongside her was very kind and stated that my brother can grab a lid and that should help. I told her she could be nicer about it the same way her coworker was and then she said I can go ahead and kick you guys out. I told her no need since we didn't even want to purchase from you anyways. I forgot my phone inside and told my brother to grab it and she disgustingly tells him, "Came back to taste more flavors?." Funny how the two sides of the UC Berkeley campus have froyo options on opposite ends of the commercial spectrum. On the south side is longtime local favorite Yogurt Park with the can't-miss sugar-free option (review: http://bit.ly/34XbTMs), and on the north side is this outlet of a global chain with over 540 stores. Just this year I've seen Menchie's in faraway places like Detroit and Toronto, and the minute I walked into this shop, I could feel their corporate stamp. It's in their flavor-specific posters, their over-colorized furniture, and even their self-serve spigots. They're also reasonably priced at 62-cents per ounce. The challenge was that how long I pulled the handle was completely up to me, and of course I probably left it down about five seconds too long. Of course, the toppings bar was within my sight line as well. However, the real challenge was that they offer Dole Whip, my weakness. On my first visit, I mixed it with No Sugar Added Strawberry. Classic froyo spot with a good selection of flavors and toppings. Some of the toppings always look slightly suspicious though and you can't be too sure how long they've been there. Nonetheless, if you're there for the froyo itself it's great. I got the lemonade and pineapple which both tasted really fresh and sweet. I love menchies!! This has been the most organized and clean frozen yogurt shop I've gone to. Their yogurt is never runny or dripping from the machines. I haven't gone during peak hours, but I assume it isn't too bad since it's pretty spacious. My favorite flavors are coffee, chocolate and toffee. They also rotate through different flavors regularly. According to the owner, all the yogurt has no carbs or sugar. I always thought I loved Yogurt Land but menchies tops YL by 100%. From the outside looking in, it could be difficult to understand how being a tutti frutti head wouldn't impact a negative review for a top tier competitor. However, trust my word when I say this establishment is a disappointment. To start with, the flavor choice is limited and really catered to little children, not adults with a a fine palate. Flavors like chocoholic and birthday cake do not stimulate the senses of a seasoned froyo consumer. Additionally, topping options are limited. I do appreciate the fact that mochi is provided, so the rating gets a +0.5 for that. Now time for the penultimate part of the experience: payment. Not only was the worker on her phone the whole time, including when I went up to pay, she had the audacity to ask for a tip. If a negative tip option were available I'd give it. These are the types of jobs we need to automate and leave to robots. At least they'd be more personable.
