I needed a Starbucks Cake in the shape of a cup for a surprise birthday party in San Francisco. I recevied quotes from 11 places, 10 bakeries in SF and Debbie Does Cakes in Oakland. Even including additional cupcakes and delivery Debbie was the cheapest (and best). The Starbucks cake measured a whopping 1 foot tall and could easily have fed all 35 of my guests. Debbie was probably leaning toward the conservative side with portions and servings when telling me it was only suited for 20 people though. When you're in the market to purchase a custom made cake, your first priority is the aesthetics, second is taste. Fortunately you don't have to sacrifice either with one of Debbie's cakes. I requested Devil's foodcake with salted caramel buttercream and vanilla cupcakes with salted caramel frosting - both were delicious but if I only had to choose one it would be the devil's foodcake. I would warn it borders on the VERY sweet side if you eat it with the fondant. Debbie is just as sweet as her cakes, she was super accommodating to my needs by delivering the cake out of normal delivery hours. I would recommend contacting her as early as you can, her cakes are very labor intensive. I was told just the lid of the Stabucks cup took two weeks to perfect! Even the base the cake was on was painted fondant. Can you say attention to detail? It was a breeze setting everything up, all of it is done by email - communication and payment (Paypal). I ordered a cute fish cake, mounted on a board that read "finally hooked" for my husband on the night of our rehearsal dinner. So adorable! He loved it soo much!! We had so much cake from our traditional wedding cake that we didnt cut up and serve the computer cake. At the end of the night after reception was over, all the groomsmans dug into the computer cake with their hands and seriously, gobbled up the entire thing! As much as you might want to think fancy cakes like these wouldn't taste good because they are covered in fondant and blah blah... I am so happy that I found Debbie - boy does she do cakes!!! I had been planning my 30th Birthday since a few days after I turned 29. I found Debbie through Yelp, and then found her again with a Google Search. After seeing what she can do with cake, I knew she was the right person for the job. My birthday was a cruise on the SF Bay with a "Gilligan's Island Theme." Everyone showed up dressed as a character from the TV Series, and I was Gilligan! I discussed pricing with these couple options, and she told me that her first idea was the most intricate, and would in turn be the more expensive idea.... I decided to go with a less intricate idea (which looked VERY intricate after it was finished) that suited my needs. The final cake designs was: the white transistor radio from the show, a coconut cream pie, and a bamboo glass drink with an orchid floating in it. For effect, she put the 3 items on a bamboo tray made of fondant. BEAUTIFUL! No one could believe that it was a cake! It surpassed my wildest dreams! The "radio" was chocolate devil's food cake with chocolate filling, and the "pie" was also chocolate devil's food cake with mint cream filling. Both were delicious and moist - and I loved to twist of irony to have mint inside a "coconut cream pie." The results were awesome! We went to this restaurant called Stanford's in Walnut Creek and everyone (and I mean everyone) at the restaurant wanted to know who did the cake. It was 'THE' best cake the restaurant people have ever seen. Our waitress even asked for a piece of cake! That was strange, but we gave her one anyways. Before this weekend I had only seen pictures of edible works of art or watched television shows about super talented, over the top, limitless designer cakes. Who knew that Oakland had a star of their own named Debbie. When I was planning my husband's 40th birthday party I was determined to find the perfect cake to fit in with his Viva Las Vegas yacht party. I didn't have anything particular in mind, but in reading the other reviews I felt comfortable asking for Debbie's guidance. Totally worth it. What a keepsake. Come the day of the party, everything is set for delivery and paid in full. All that is left is to see the cake. Drum roll.... I wasn't actually present when it was delivered, but the staff on board knew that I needed an outlet close to the cake table and I'm sure were wondering why the odd request. When I boarded, they immediately brought me over to see how unbelievable it was. All I could do was smile from ear to ear. She communicates well and the delivery was a HUGE plus. Not only did the cake look awesome, but the cake was delicious too. I had the chocolate cake with the bavarian cream.. Yum yum~ Since we held my boyfriend's birthday dinner at a big resturaunt, when the cake came out, strangers even whipped out their camera/camera phones to take pictures of it!
