Natasha was responsive, receptive, and encouraging. By the end of our exchange, I felt totally comfortable squealing "I ordered a chocolate espresso cake because I didn't want anyone to think i'm boring, and um.... vanilla. But the fact is, i really LIKE vanilla so yes, vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream... is it too late to change?!" And it wasn't! As for the design, I dug deep and came up with four ideas, all of which she entertained, sent me a couple of sketches, picked one, kept working with me on specifics, and voila! Everyone loved it! Tried a sample of their cake at a Yelp event in Oakland. While it was beautifully decorated, I found the cake itself to be dry and way to light and airy. I saw they were cutting away the decorative outer shell and thought they were just wasting chocolate, so I asked to have a piece of the shell too. They were very nice and let me have it, but turns out the shell is kind of hard, I guess not really meant to be eaten. I would feel weird to serve a cake and just peel away and throw away the decorative layer. read more

So gorgeous I (almost) didn't want to cut into it! I got this book-shaped cake (see photo) as a surprise birthday gift last night. Natasha was awesome enough to deliver it to my house at 7:00 on a Saturday night, no small feat of service as far as I'm concerned. The attention to detail in this cake was amazing, from the detail in delineating pages, to the spine, to the ribbon. This is all the more impressive in light of the fact that they'd never done a cake in the shape of a book before. So often it seems like in elaborately decorated cakes that taste goes by the wayside. After so many searches. I ran into Natasha website whatthecake. They were able to make the perfect sport theme cake for my son's 1st bday cake for a reasonable price. The flavors were delicious too. We had ordered a three tier cake with an additional 4' smash cake. Flavors were red velvet, mocha, and strawberry filling which was a hit to everyone. No leftovers to take home. Terrible service! BAD BUSINESS!! It takes her more then a day to respond. We had everything planned out for the cake from the sketch to the flavor. I was about to send her the deposit for the cake through PayPal after she answered one of my questions. I sent her that email on Jan 5 at 9:08am. However, she responds to me on Jan 6 at 7:17pm saying "I assumed that my email from Dec 18th in which I had outlined what each price range offers (to details like numbers of flowers, or leaves or torches on the cake) plus my sketch made it easy. I'm sorry that you didn't find it clear enough. As I've predicted your spot has been filled this afternoon by another client who paid a deposit. Sorry it didn't work out. I even re read the email over again twice to see where she outlined the price. Maybe this could have worked out if she would have responded in time. Natasha's cakes are creative, reasonably priced, and, unlike most fancy cakes, DELICIOUS! She is able to create some outrageous designs - one of her cakes was an architect's drawing board, complete with pencils, ruler, and a half-finished blueprint drawn precisely on fondant. Also, it was chcolate. Working with Natasha to plan my cake was wonderful. She was able to meet my special requirements and create something that delighted my guests and disappeared very quickly. At first it was a slow start because she miss my email. Once she reply from than on it was easy process. The cake was wonderful and the taste of it was really good. I have try many cakes with fondant on it and is always too sweet or thick with too much royal icing in it. If it was up to me alone, I'd have settled for a plain vanilla and butter cream frosting. But thanks to Natasha and her superb palate, she came up with an idea for a mojito cake that had dried mint in the batter and a mango butter cream frosting- DELICIOUS! She can pretty much "build" anything you ask for and the flavors of her cakes are yummy! I had a "censured design" fresh strawberry cake for my bachelorette party which was just AMAZING: moist, fun, and delicious! Then I asked her if she could make a living room cake (I'm into Interior Design stuff!!!) and the cake was breathtaking: it had so much details (a sofa, an ottoman, a rug, and a faux finish for the walls!!!!) And it gets better... it was very carefully put together and once more so good! That time I had the rum/banana filling flavor. People that usually don't like banana cakes told me at the party that they loved this one! As soon as I saw the cakes on Natasha's website and read her bio I knew she was the right person to make my cake and I was right. I emailed her with my idea and she responded quickly with some sketches. When I picked up my cake, I was completely stunned. A beautiful "Blood and Roses" themed cake in the shape of a Rickenbacker guitar body which an incredible glow. It was spectacular! Natasha got all the details right - strings, pickups, knobs and the signature "R" was perfect. Not to mention the intricate red roses and dripping blood. It completely exceeded my expectations and was by far the most beautiful cake I had ever seen. When I brought the cake out at my party everyone was wowed and brought out cameras to take photos.
