I used Havana Catering for the first time for my baby shower this past weekend and had a really great experience. I had heard of them before because a friend used them for their wedding, and since I plan events for a living, I've worked with a lot of caterers. For my own event though, price mattered a lot, but I still wanted really good food. After reaching out to a bunch of places, I went with Havana because I had tried their food before and their pricing was very reasonable. We ordered full trays of adobo chicken, lechon roasted pork, crispy tofu, paella, sofrito rice, black beans, corn, poblano mac and cheese, and plantains. I did bring in one dish from another restaurant, Jamaican oxtail, just because I know my guests are big foodies. The biggest hits from Havana were definitely the poblano mac and cheese, lechon, and the paella. Honestly, the mac and cheese was the standout. Everyone kept going back for it and I wish I had ordered an extra tray. What really stood out to me though was the delivery experience. The driver called me ahead of time, brought everything in, and set it all up. He opened the trays with gloves, added sauces, arranged everything nicely, and even put out utensils and labels. I've had plenty of catering deliveries before and this was easily one of the best. He was just genuinely kind and went above and beyond, and it made a big difference. My team and I have gone to Havana in Walnut Creek multiple times for dinner and we loved the food so much we used Havana Catering in Martinez to cater for our company event. With only a week's notice, they were able to accommodate our event without any issue. The food came 30 mins early which gave us enough time to prepare the lunch area for 70 people. From the time of order to food drop off, they were super nice, friendly, and accommodating. They helped bring the food up even though we had enough people to do it. All the food were prepped as if we were getting it fresh dining in at the restaurant. Every dish was cooked perfectly and packed tons of flavor. The price was pretty reasonable as well. Hands down, the chimichurri skirt steak was my favorite paired with the sofrito rice and the boniato mash. The plantain crusted cod was really good with the cuban corn saute. I apologize because I really thought the other reviews were probably people who were paid to say all these mumbo jumbo about how good this place is. I thought they were clowns. Nope I was the clown. I can admit it. I should have never doubted these people. Nor should I have doubted Klowie when she walked me through what I would need for my order. We recently help a birthday party for 60 people. Food arrived and was set up hot and ready to go. We opted for the chafing dishes (recyclable) which kept everything heated for several hours. The server (Evan) was very helpful and courteous. The presentation looked great. People expressed over and over how much they liked the food - the variety, the flavors, the uniqueness. We had two meat dishes - plantain-crusted chicken and flank steak with chimichurri sauce. Both were excellent but the steak was off the chart good. We also had cauliflower with that same chimichurri sauce, corn salsa, twice-fried plantains with pineapple salsa, a mango salad which with a dressing that was marvelous, poblano mac&cheese - a crowd hot as well, and plantain chips and rice. All of it was just great. All labeled with the entirety of ingredients. People are still commenting days afterwards. I had mini Cuban sandos, three kinds of salad, both plantain and mojo chicken, and both churros and flan. They showed up right on time to deliver and everything was packaged nicely to present. The pickup was so easy and efficient. I showed up earlier than my pickup time because I didn't want to be late, and they had all my food ready and loaded into my trunk for me. I was handed a copy of the receipt so I could easily check the items and sauces. Most of the food was still warm when I got home. We did have to reheat the crispy mojo chicken because it got a little bit soggy by the time we ate. I love the attention to detail where they gave me labels for all the dishes, and those tell me which sauce is served with what dish. I ordered the 2 tapas 2 entrees with side and salad for 10 people. The food was reasonably priced, good portions, and I liked the variety of flavors and textures. Since it was our first time catering from Havana, I picked a little of everything to try. There's so many other things on the menu that sounded good. I look forward to trying their empanadas and ceviche. My favorite thing we got were the crispy mojo chicken, skewers, and mango spinach salad. My husband liked the Lechon roast pork the most, but it's not the Lechon I am used to, this Lechon is more like pulled pork. Each dish came with generous portions of sauce, which I really liked. We love sauces and I use them on other dishes at home after we finished the catered food. We were not fans of their sofrito rice, it was on the dry side.
