Aloha Catering has some great reviews, which is what initially drew us to them. Unfortunately, our experience with Richard was challenging--as others have also mentioned. We submitted a catering quote request, and to our surprise, Richard called to discuss it. Unfortunately, the call was not the kind of interaction you'd hope for when trying to plan an event. It left us wondering--why is Richard the one calling back customers instead of Minh? I'm writing this in the hopes that Minh will reach out to me directly with a contact number so we can move forward and work with Aloha Catering. Aloha Catering was everything that we needed and hoped for!!!! Aloha Catering was the greatest help at our mother's Celebration of Life! Especially in these events, you never want to have any problems. Well, Aloha Catering did an awesome job and we never had to worry about anything! Everything we expected, and being brought up on Hawaiian food, we know what Hawaiian is supposed to taste like....exactly what we were served! I love that Richard and Minh are such perfectionists! I saw the review about the form and how rigid he is about making sure you have the form clearly accessible when you initially talk to him some people may find that rude but I feel it's the only effective way to be on the "same page", I can't imagine reviewing a document on a device you're talking on efficiently. I hired Aloha Catering for my daughter's surprise baby shower. The set up was extremely efficient and went smoothly. They took care of everything from start to finish. The food was delicious, tasty and moist, fresh and so much! Not sure if we were small eaters but we had to ask everyone to take food home and still had a lot left over. Menu included chicken, kalua pig and cabbage, chicken long rice,fruit and veggie salad, veggie stir fry, Mac salad and an amazing banana cake. Rice too of course. More than enough of everything and no one went home hungry!! Considering all that and the wonderful service, the price was extremely reasonable and beat many other catering companies significantly. If you have the opportunity Aloha Catering will not disappoint. Richard may come across a little gruff but that's old school Hawaii with standards from a guy that's worked hard all his life and has experience. Minh will smooth things over and between the two of them, make your catering experience something you'll be proud of to have chosen Aloha Catering. Aloha Catering did a wonderful job for a party I threw recently. We had the full Hukilau Luau and everyone loved it! There was plenty of food, and our guests loved it! The set up looked very nice. Richard and Minh were willing to change the set up to accommodate our venue and kept the food beautiful, plentiful and hot. I completely agree with Rumi's review of Jan. 15, 2025. Emailed AC and the owner Richard responded with an emailing laying out the quote as expected. Then he called to go over what was emailed. I emailed back saying we were discussing quote with my team. ZERO stars if I could. Like some similar reviews, Richard called to discuss about the attached quote. In my case, he never sent the attachment and was accusing me that I am not reading the right email. He also then says that my MacBook and his Windows computer were not a match. He kept saying that we cannot work together if I cannot read it correctly. I had to cut his call short after 10 minutes because he is an absolute rude owner. I would never want him to organize my event. Attached are images of my email which obviously has no attachment or a link to the spreadsheet and his wording is rude as well in general. I told him I work with computers so I know how to read emails because he was putting the blame all on me, the customer! He took that as an offense and sounded like he wanted to challenge me because I am younger than him and I should know how to find this "attachment" that he sent. He says he is 81 years old, in that case you should retire and live a happier life than to ruin people's day with your attitude and manner. He arrived early to the event and set up the Hawaiian buffet by providing serving utensils and chafing dishes. Food items that needed to stay hot had heating elements and items that needed to stay cold had ice packs. Richard thought of everything! And he is just an overall great guy! Richard was extremely rude to our team and mansplained how we should be running our business and how great his business if because of his expertise. I haven't even been able to use Aloha's Catering service, but Richard has already impressed me with his amazing customer service. I had put in an inquiry very late for an event were having next week. Aloha is already booked for that date and Richard kindly let me know that via email. I responded to him thanking him and letting him know I understand and hope to be able to use them in the future. I have used Aloha Catering for my wedding, my mom's 70th Birthday and my daughter's 1st Birthday Luau. Richard has always been so generous and accommodating. We had tasted other Bay Area caterers that said they specialized in Hawaiian style and plate lunch style food. By far Aloha Catering was the best and closest to authentic that we tasted. This is so late in coming but in my defense there wasn't Yelp when Richard catered our Silver Anniversary party. Richard told us he'd handle the food and anything else we wanted him to handle. We rented the venue and the food was there like clockwork. The buffets were immaculate, beautiful and bountiful. His workers were efficient and basically invisible (that's a trick) everything was constantly full and the food was GREAT!!! For an authentic luau you can't beat Aloha Catering. In response to the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Northern Japan, a group of concerned citizens from the Bay Area's Hawaiian and Asian American communities have organized Kōkua Japan San Francisco, a fund raising concert in Japantown's Peace Plaza from 10 AM. to 6 PM. Saturday, April 2, 2011. "Kōkua" means "help" in Hawaiian. The event raised over $20,000 in Donations to the Northern Japan Earthquake Relief Fund. Aloha Catering donated all the food prep, cooking, delivering, serving to over 250 performers and volunteers for this event. They came to my daughters school event at Pacific Point Christian Schools. They had 3 lines so it wouldn't be a hold up for people to wait. They had Kalua Pig(tender), Chicken Teriyaki (very very tasty, would love to have more, sauce is excellent over the rice), Garden Salad, Fresh Fruits (strawberries, cantaloupe, watermelon, pineapple), Steamed Rice, Banana Cake (cream cheese frosting, moist light banana flavor). The school said this was the only authentic Hawaiian food around. The theme of the event was Hawaiian, but due to the weather, they had to reschedule the hula dancers and jump houses. There are several Hawaiian restaurants in the Bay Area, but Aloha is the most authentic! The kahlua pork is served just right and most dishes come with lomi lomi, macaroni salad, rice and haupia. This restaurant also supports local Hawaiian culture, so if you're lucky you may see a local band playing Hawaiian tunes or some dancers from a local halau! They also cater events, from small office parties to full-blown luaus! UPDATE: The restaurant closed down sometime in 2005 since the strip mall is undergoing construction. We provided the place for a small family and friends party this summer at our house and while we weren't responsible for hiring Aloha Catering, we highly recommend their food and staff. I worked with Richard in September, planning my mom's 60th birthday party. It was going to be the event of the decade for my family. Richard organized everything: catering for 100 friends and family from Aloha Catering, Polynesian dancers, bartender, DJ, lights, your name it! Unfortunately, my grandmother suffered a massive stroke during our party planning and we were forced to cancel my mother's birthday party. I work for Fremont Christian School and was tasked with helping plan our first annual Luau fundraiser held at the end of Sept. 2014. I was the person who took care of all catering and party rental arrangements and worked very closely with Richard over a 3 month period. His was the only company in the Bay area I could find who caters Hawaiian food on a large scale, and I didn't know him prior to planning our event. We ended up having over 400 attendees, and the event was a HUGE success, in large part due to Richard's expertise and guidance. This man knows catering and I found him to be easy to work with, generous with his time and talents, and very reliable. The food was ONO (delicious, and I was born and raised in Honolulu) and fairly priced. Richard's experience helped us to save money, have little wastage, and therefore raise more money. Even though I am a strong logistical planner, I had never planned a luau. Richard was very proactive in providing extremely helpful information that I didn't know to ask for throughout our planning time.
