Aloha Catering has some great reviews, which is what initially drew us to them. Unfortunately, our experience with Richard was challenging--as others have also mentioned. We submitted a catering quote request, and to our surprise, Richard called to discuss it. Unfortunately, the call was not the kind of interaction you'd hope for when trying to plan an event. It left us wondering--why is Richard the one calling back customers instead of Minh? I'm writing this in the hopes that Minh will reach out to me directly with a contact number so we can move forward and work with Aloha Catering. Otherwise, we'll need to start exploring other catering options. I will update this review once I hear back from Minh. read more

Great service. Great food. Very friendly and helpful. Detailed when going over the contract. Would definately hire them again.

I love that Richard and Minh are such perfectionists! I saw the review about the form and how rigid he is about making sure you have the form clearly accessible when you initially talk to him some people may find that rude but I feel it's the only effective way to be on the "same page", I can't imagine reviewing a document on a device you're talking on efficiently. I hired Aloha Catering for my daughter's surprise baby shower. The set up was extremely efficient and went smoothly. They took care of everything from start to finish. The food was delicious, tasty and moist, fresh and so much! Not sure if we were small eaters but we had to ask everyone to take food home and still had a lot left over. Menu included chicken, kalua pig and cabbage, chicken long rice, fruit and veggie salad, veggie stir fry, Mac salad and an amazing banana cake. Rice too of course. More than enough of everything and no one went home hungry!! Considering all that and the wonderful service, the price was extremely reasonable and beat many other catering companies significantly. If you have the opportunity Aloha Catering will not disappoint. Richard may come across a little gruff but that's old school Hawaii with standards from a guy that's worked hard all his life and has experience. Minh will smooth things over and between the two of them, make your catering experience something you'll be proud of to have chosen Aloha Catering. Not a sales speech, just coming from a girl from Hawaii that understands the service industry and loves the local food!! read more

Aloha Catering was everything that we needed and hoped for!!!! Aloha Catering was the greatest help at our mother's Celebration of Life! Especially in these events, you never want to have any problems. Well, Aloha Catering did an awesome job and we never had to worry about anything! When the party arrived, Aloha Catering was ready for the guests to line up and eat! The food was awesome! Everything we expected, and being brought up on Hawaiian food, we know what Hawaiian is supposed to taste like....exactly what we were served! Again, Richard, thank you for the great service and the great food! Even though we had way more people than expected, you never ran out of food and we never paid a penny more than agreed on! Thank you again! Mahalo, as they would say in Hawaii.... Aloha! read more

Aloha Catering did a wonderful job for a party I threw recently. We had the full Hukilau Luau and everyone loved it! There was plenty of food, and our guests loved it! The set up looked very nice. Richard and Minh were willing to change the set up to accommodate our venue and kept the food beautiful, plentiful and hot. I completely agree with Rumi's review of Jan. 15, 2025. Richard will email you all the details and options, then he will call you and go over everything. Yes, he's old school, but he is very straightforward and honest, no hidden charges or surprises! The prices are very good too. For Hawaiian catering you can't beat it! i highly recommend. read more

Richard was friendly, reliable, helpful and food was delicious! Everyone at our party was raving about the food. We got the Ohana #2 package. Everyone loved the food and was beyond satisfied. We wished we lived back in the Bay Area to have Richard cater all of our events. We definitely will be back soon! read more

Emailed AC and the owner Richard responded with an emailing laying out the quote as expected. Then he called to go over what was emailed. I emailed back saying we were discussing quote with my team. I finally got back to him but the date we were asking for was already booked. He was very helpful and kind on the phone. Their prices are reasonably and menu looks delicious. The reviews helped too. read more

Mahalo to Richard for a preparing and delivering such a delicious luau for my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. Richard is responsive on both email and phone. He arrived early to the event and set up the Hawaiian buffet by providing serving utensils and chafing dishes. Food items that needed to stay hot had heating elements and items that needed to stay cold had ice packs. Richard thought of everything! And he is just an overall great guy! We ordered the Hukilau Luau menu and all of the items were amazing: Kalua Pig, Chicken Teriyaki, Stir Fry Vegetables, Lomi lomi Salmon, Garden Salad, Fresh Fruits, Sweet Potato, Steamed Rice, and Banana Cake! I was simply getting a quote and the director Richard, was extremely rude and unprofessional. The whole conversation did not go well. He said he's 80 years old and bragging about how smart he is and how he pays his IT big money to create spreadsheets of quotes. Apparently my computer is faulty according to him. We were just not on the same page. He was not hearing me. He was extremely rude and I am literally in tears because of how uncomfortable he made me feel just from our conversation. This was my experience with him and it's unfortunate because I was really looking forward to having this catering for my wedding. I'd give no stars but I guess I have to give one... read more

ZERO stars if I could. Like some similar reviews, Richard called to discuss about the attached quote. In my case, he never sent the attachment and was accusing me that I am not reading the right email. He also then says that my MacBook and his Windows computer were not a match. He kept saying that we cannot work together if I cannot read it correctly. I had to cut his call short after 10 minutes because he is an absolute rude owner. I would never want him to organize my event. Attached are images of my email which obviously has no attachment or a link to the spreadsheet and his wording is rude as well in general. I told him I work with computers so I know how to read emails because he was putting the blame all on me, the customer! He took that as an offense and sounded like he wanted to challenge me because I am younger than him and I should know how to find this "attachment" that he sent. He says he is 81 years old, in that case you should retire and live a happier life than to ruin people's day with your attitude and manner. Anyway, he is lucky I held my anger because anybody would've cussed him out. AVOID!! read more

Just like the other reviewer, we also reached out to request for quote for a corporate catering order. Richard was extremely rude to our team and mansplained how we should be running our business and how great his business if because of his expertise. He spoke over our team and refused to let us get a word in. This conversation of him lecturing us lasted about 30 minutes until we just hung up on him. I would not recommend working with Aloha Catering. We dodge a bullet on this one. Cant imagine the logistical nightmare if we decided to proceed. read more

Richard is so awesome and made me feel like I'm family to him. He executed a perfect luau feast for my daughter's wedding in Santa Cruz, California. All the guests were raving about the food including from the most picky eaters! Richard is kind, professional, caring and most importantly, loving . Thank you Richard for all your recommendations and the perfect luau wedding feast! We love the POG, too. P. S. The mango was delicious! read more

Richard and his staff were amazing. We had a Hawaiian theme first birthday party for our daughter. The food was so tasty and delicious we felt like we were in Hawaii. All we needed was the Ocean vibes. We decided to go with the Ohana 2 menu. The chicken teriyaki was well marinated and super tender. The delivery was right on time and well put together. Our guests were amazed on how good the food was. We look forward in using Aloha Catering for our future events. read more

Richard has catering dialed in! He was amazing to work with, excellent food, on time delivery. We had a great experience and highly recommend Aloha Catering. Definitely keeping aloha catering noted as our number one go to for every event. read more

I haven't even been able to use Aloha's Catering service, but Richard has already impressed me with his amazing customer service. I had put in an inquiry very late for an event were having next week. Aloha is already booked for that date and Richard kindly let me know that via email. I responded to him thanking him and letting him know I understand and hope to be able to use them in the future. To my surprise Richard lets me know he will try to accommodate us, and see what he can do to help us with our event. I find out that our budget might be a bit too low to even use their service, but I was pleasantly surprised by Richard's willingness to still help us! Thank you Richard, and I hope to be able to use your services and try your food soon! read more

I have used Aloha Catering for my wedding, my mom's 70th Birthday and my daughter's 1st Birthday Luau. Richard has always been so generous and accommodating. We had tasted other Bay Area caterers that said they specialized in Hawaiian style and plate lunch style food. By far Aloha Catering was the best and closest to authentic that we tasted. The food is excellent! And Richard provides plenty!! We recently ordered the hukilau delivery. Our favorites: Kalua pig (provided cabbage on the side and was moist and flavorful) Chicken teriyaki- ono sauce and chicken sooo tender Lomi salmon - nice chunks of salmon and not overly salted Moist Banana cake Chicken long rice - wonderful fresh ginger included We have ordered other things in past like added kal bi, lumpia (all very good) Richard provides a hearty local Hawaiian style buffet that satisfied all our guests and we received lots of compliments on the food Aloha Catering provided during and after our parties! Definitely would use again!! read more

This is so late in coming but in my defense there wasn't Yelp when Richard catered our Silver Anniversary party. Richard told us he'd handle the food and anything else we wanted him to handle. We rented the venue and the food was there like clockwork. The buffets were immaculate, beautiful and bountiful. His workers were efficient and basically invisible (that's a trick) everything was constantly full and the food was GREAT!!! For an authentic luau you can't beat Aloha Catering. Aloha Catering is "Da Best"!!! Much Aloha (love) and Mahalo (thanks) for making our reconfirmation ceremony and silver anniversary so wonderful. read more

In response to the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Northern Japan, a group of concerned citizens from the Bay Area's Hawaiian and Asian American communities have organized Kōkua Japan San Francisco, a fund raising concert in Japantown's Peace Plaza from 10 AM. to 6 PM. Saturday, April 2, 2011. "Kōkua" means "help" in Hawaiian. The event raised over $20,000 in Donations to the Northern Japan Earthquake Relief Fund. Aloha Catering donated all the food prep, cooking, delivering, serving to over 250 performers and volunteers for this event. Uncle Richard and Auntie overwhelmed us with their "Kokua" and all the love and Aloha they served that day. The food was so "Ono" and much appreciated. Exceptional local food, always served with Aloha, by Aloha Catering. read more

They came to my daughters school event at Pacific Point Christian Schools. They had 3 lines so it wouldn't be a hold up for people to wait. They had Kalua Pig(tender), Chicken Teriyaki (very very tasty, would love to have more, sauce is excellent over the rice), Garden Salad, Fresh Fruits (strawberries, cantaloupe, watermelon, pineapple), Steamed Rice, Banana Cake (cream cheese frosting, moist light banana flavor). The school said this was the only authentic Hawaiian food around. The theme of the event was Hawaiian, but due to the weather, they had to reschedule the hula dancers and jump houses. But the caterers still came out! Yum!!! read more

There are several Hawaiian restaurants in the Bay Area, but Aloha is the most authentic! The kahlua pork is served just right and most dishes come with lomi lomi, macaroni salad, rice and haupia. This restaurant also supports local Hawaiian culture, so if you're lucky you may see a local band playing Hawaiian tunes or some dancers from a local halau! They also cater events, from small office parties to full-blown luaus! UPDATE: The restaurant closed down sometime in 2005 since the strip mall is undergoing construction. But catering is still available on their website (or call). http://www.alohafamilyrestaurant.com/ read more

The flavors are authentic and the portions are comparable to the huge ones you get on the island. However, how does one justify paying about $12 for a plate lunch when on the island, it goes for between $5-$8? read more

We had 105 people at our house for a wedding reception. Aloha catering took care of the tables, chairs, linens, china, flat ware, last minute umbrellas and the food. OMG the food!!! Myself and several other people that attended have been to a few of the Hawaiian islands and numerous Luaus. Aloha Catering was much better food. The staff was on time and professional. I couldn't be more pleased with Aloha catering. Thank you Richard and staff for a wonderful party. all 100+ guests were very pleased. read more

We provided the place for a small family and friends party this summer at our house and while we weren't responsible for hiring Aloha Catering, we highly recommend their food and staff. All of their food was fresh, well prepared and had great taste. The sliced sweet potatoes were something I'd not had before...not overdone and mushy, not underdone, but just right. Their staff arrived on time and was professional and unobtrusive yet kept the buffet table stocked, cleand and in order. I'd definitely use them again for a future event. read more

Uncle Richard and his crew catered our sons wedding this past spring. The food and service were amazing. This is really authentic Hawaiian food that was truly outstanding. We had eight Hawaiians attending the wedding who said the food was just as good as anything they could get in Hawaii. He brings lots of extra food and the pricing is excellent. Nobody else can compare for Hawaiian food in the bay area read more

We called on Aloha Catering for our company Luau in July for lunch catering of 300 people. Business owner, Richard Nashiro, and his team exceeded our expectations from start to finish. Not only were they prompt, professional and accommodating, but their food was truly authentic Hawaiian and delicious. Hawaiian décor and tiki bar was perfect! The food was enough to feed everyone, especially the additional people that joined in on the fun. Everyone left satisfied. I worked with Richard in September, planning my mom's 60th birthday party. It was going to be the event of the decade for my family. Richard organized everything: catering for 100 friends and family from Aloha Catering, Polynesian dancers, bartender, DJ, lights, your name it! Unfortunately, my grandmother suffered a massive stroke during our party planning and we were forced to cancel my mother's birthday party. When I called Richard to tell him the news, he was so companionate. He simple said "Don't worry about anything. Just go be with your family. I will take care of it." It brought my mom to tears when I told her that. It was heartbreaking to me to cancel her party, but I am forever thankful to Richard for his kindness and generosity that he showed my family during a truly sad time. Thank you Richard! read more

We hired Aloha Catering to provide the food for our 200+ person outdoor wedding this past May 2014 at a children's campground, and they did a great job! Richard is super responsive, and the food was amazing. We had a lot of uber foodie types at our wedding, so the quality of the food was important to us. The setting was casual, and our budget tight, so we needed to find an affordable option. Aloha Catering was exactly what we were looking for. The catering is no frills, but the kahlua pork and the teriyaki chicken won raves. Plus, Richard was dependable and efficient. I recommend Aloha without hesitation to anyone looking for a casual and affordable, yet delicious, option for catering. read more

We hired Aloha Catering for a party for 75 and everyone loved the food, including friends and family from Hawaii. My family is picky about food being too salty, but the kahlua pork and teriyaki chicken were great. I liked the banana cake too. Everything was professionally done, and Richard was very helpful. My only disappointment was that there were no leftovers -- friends and family cleaned out the food, which shows how much they liked it! read more

I work for Fremont Christian School and was tasked with helping plan our first annual Luau fundraiser held at the end of Sept. 2014. I was the person who took care of all catering and party rental arrangements and worked very closely with Richard over a 3 month period. His was the only company in the Bay area I could find who caters Hawaiian food on a large scale, and I didn't know him prior to planning our event. We ended up having over 400 attendees, and the event was a HUGE success, in large part due to Richard's expertise and guidance. This man knows catering and I found him to be easy to work with, generous with his time and talents, and very reliable. The food was ONO (delicious, and I was born and raised in Honolulu) and fairly priced. Richard's experience helped us to save money, have little wastage, and therefore raise more money. Even though I am a strong logistical planner, I had never planned a luau. Richard was very proactive in providing extremely helpful information that I didn't know to ask for throughout our planning time. We WILL be using Aloha Catering for this annual event as long as they are in business. If you are considering Aloha Catering and wish to speak with me about additional details of my experience, ask Richard for my number, I will be happy to speak with you.
