This review is very belated. We had Talaveras Tacos cater an event for ~70 people at a park last summer. They were wonderful to work with, from start to finish: very responsive to our initial inquiries, pricing was as expected, and the team showed up on time and was ready to serve food on time. They also packed up the leftovers before they left so that latecomers could still eat. My only critique was that the elotes didn't look like the pic on Yelp. But everything was delicious, and people were going back for more! read more

We hired Talavera Tacos for our baby shower this past weekend based on glowing recommendations from friends and family. While the food eventually arrived, the experience leading up to and during the event was fraught with unnecessary stress. Initial communication was great, but it trailed off as we got closer to the date. Despite their "quick response" phone number, my calls and texts went completely ignored. To make matters worse, the voicemail changed from a personal greeting to a generic one 72 hours before my event, leaving me terrified that we had been scammed. We increased our headcount from 65 to 75 a week prior. After being told this was fine, I was sent an incorrect invoice that ignored the new guest count and asked for a second $300 deposit I had already paid. It took multiple follow-up emails just to get a confirmation on the final numbers. On the day of, the staff arrived promptly and set up on time. However, only 30 minutes into service--with only 30 of our 75 guests fed--they completely ran out of cilantro, onions, and grilled peppers. When I followed up the next day, they claimed they prepared for "70 guests." Even if that were true, it wasn't the 75 we paid for, and it certainly doesn't explain running out of basic toppings after 30 people. I'm incredibly glad we didn't use them for our wedding last year as originally planned. It's disappointing when the service doesn't match the reputation. 2 stars for due prompt service and the guests that got all the food really enjoyed the steak & shrimp. read more

Talavera tacos catered a company event and it was an absolute hit! I'm happy my company decided to support a local business for a work event. They were easy to commute with and coordinate with especially with set up. They were able to stay a couple hours which was helpful to make sure everyone had to chance to get lunch some folks couldn't come right away. The tacos were cooked fresh on the grill, so they were hot! The al pastor was seasoned well, hit the spot! I should've gotten more. The provided nicely organized chopped veggies for the tacos, salsas, chips, and rice & beans. The rice was okay, the tacos were good! They also provided three different drinks with lots of ice to keep them refreshing and cold! Towards the end of lunch, they also provided churros- this hit the spot. They were soft, delicious! This review is long overdue, but I couldn't forgive myself if I didn't highlight how amazing the onsite team was. We had a housewarming party last month and the last thing I wanted to worry about was cooking for 70-90 people. I reached out to Talaveras and luckily they were available for the weekend I needed them. Communication with the coordinating team was done electronically, which was fine, but I would've preferred at least one phone call to discuss a few questions and get a sense of what to expect since I had never worked with them before. Regardless, the communication was clear. Now, let's talk about the food and the onsite team. Vadhir, Eddie and Gabriel were our crew for the day. The communication ahead of their arrival and throughout their time with us was excellent. I was beyond scattered when they arrived, but they came in and quickly setup shop and offered great suggestions for managing the service flow. Then they proceeded to turn out food that our guests are STILL raving about. We ordered the standard taco menu minus the pork and also added on some agua frescas. The meats were seasoned to perfection and the sides were absolutely delicious and clearly made with the same care as the main ingredients. At the end of their service, they packaged up the remaining food and drinks and we ate through the night. They were a hit and of definitely hire them again. I wish I'd taken pictures. Talaveras Tacos is a must have for your next large party! I first learned about them 4 years ago during my fiance's graduation party and decided to hire them again on 4/19/25 to celebrate our engagement. They were very professional and responsive which helped with the planning expressing clear expectations of what space is required and indicated where they can be flexible. All of the tacos were made to order for each of our guests and the salsa/condiments were fresh which made the whole experince super legit! Definitely a fan of the grilled onions and serrano peppers because they were straight fire. Their colorful decor and table cloths was very eye-cathing and really made their branding stand out. They came prepared with their own tables, plates, utensils, and serving ware to get the party started. We also ordered their horchata and watermelon agua fresca which was refreshing on a warm day. By the end of the event, Eddie & Rich packed away all of the food and even dropped it off in a designated spot in our home which was nice. And when we couldn't finish the horchata/agua fresca they let us "borrow" their XL jugs/containers for the rest of the event as long as we returned it back to them later that weekend. I booked them 4 months in advance and requested chicken, beef and shrimp. They stated they would arrive 1.5 hours before service started. Well, apparently someone didn't get the memo because they arrived 45 minutes late, which meant the food wasn't ready at the requested time. Also, they were serving chicken, beef and pork but no shrimp. Thankfully, I kept all the emails and showed them my order. They did contact someone who came by with the shrimp but by the time the shrimp were cooked, the party was starting to wrap up. The food was good but I was disappointed in the service. read more

They catered a wedding I attended this past weekend. I am symptomatic celiac (diagnosed about 4 years ago) and while they assured the bride their food provided for the event was all 100% gluten free I double checked with them the day of. They assured me the food was safe from cross contact and completely gluten free. However I had a gluten flare up that started about an hour or two after eating their tacos, beans, rice, and guacamole and have been violently ill all weekend. If you have guests with severe allergies, make sure they are bringing their own food to your event. The tacos were absolutely delicious, I just wish someone had been honest with me about the likelihood of gluten actually being in their food. I found Talavera Tacos through Yelp as I wanted to host a catered lunch event at my work. Viet was extremely patient and great to work with as we had to work through some hoops with the building landlord. He also was able to work with the budget I had and it was more than enough food for our employees. Viet also was able to have his staff prep and cook all the food in advance, since we couldn't have it cooked onsite, which made the serving process quick and efficient for the hungry staff. Jose and Luis were great, they worked so hard to set up and serve us chicken, asada, pastor, and veggie tacos. The pastor and asada tacos were definitely my favorite. The rice and beans were also a hit, loved the accompaniment of grilled onions and jalapenos. I only had their creamy orange salsa and it was perfect. The watermelon agua fresca was also so refreshing and I may have had 3 cups of it! Everything was absolutely delicious! We wanted to order taco for our farewell to a beloved teacher. Yelp sent my request to several vendors. Talavera was the most prompt and professional in giving me quotes. Price wise, they were all similar so I went ahead with Talavera. Everyone loved the food! They provided tables, decor, utensils and plates. We just have to show up. One thing I would request from Talavera is NOT to use styrofoam plate. Not environmentally friendly at all. Jose was the cook and server, friendly, efficient, and knew what he was doing. Anthony was very professional and organized in helping prepare the catering service with only 24 hours notice. They had great communication from the start, were quick to respond, and answered all my questions promptly. They also accommodated my many requests to adjust the menu. First off I was so scared to hire them based off a few reviews for their response rate. I spoke to Anthony and he gave me much reassurance I was in good hands. 1. I received my invoice within a few hours of speaking with him. (He did miss giving me the prices for smaller parties, no biggie he 100% made up for that lack of communication.) 2. It was hard to get in contact with them prior to my party. I requested a quote on here in order to know when to contact them after several emails, and texts with no response. After they responded on here I figured it would be a good time to give a call which worked. They're busy, you have to catch them when they're not super busy. 3. Jose catered our event and was so friendly, super amazing. OMG, I cannot express how kind, and professional, yet personable they are. Oh man, they were so pleasant. They wrapped our food at the end. The REAL DEAL. Catered a party at my cousin's in Oakland. I think they didn't want to come so far - I'm unclear if it was in their service region or not. They did get stuck in traffic and were delayed an hour because of it. Of course not their fault... but also it did NOT matter. They arrived and got straight to work setting up in no time, with great attitudes. They brought their equipment onto a little patio, and it was nice to not have to accommodate a large loud, generator blazing truck out on her hilly street, plus there was no need to warn neighbors. They brought a medium-sized but robust dark steel taco grill station which looked perfectly in place on the patio. And yes the most delicious taco bar I've had in a long time, and I've eaten about 50,000 tacos. The "Eddie's Quesadillas" are out of this world. Not quire a birria, not just a taco needing a little more juice, it was heaven. Such pros. Such yum. Zero hesitation to recommend for a top-notch and elegant food station in the backyard. Taco 'bout a great caterer! :) Found Talavera Tacos at a friend's event at their home. We were served tacos and quesadillas offered with chicken or al pastor. My personal fave was the al pastor - the marinade was delicious! The salsa bar table allowed you to add more flavor to your meal with things like lime, radishes, onions, etc. As a spice lover, I loved their roasted jalapeños and orange sauce which added a great kick. The watermelon fresca was also super refreshing considering what a hot day it was.
