The Heirloom Chef - Caterers Near Me - Oakland, California

The Heirloom Chef was exactly what we were looking for. As 2 working parents with a full family, we needed help with healthy foods made at home, so we could shift away from ordering out as much as we were. The weekly program was perfect. Shout out to Chef Will for creating absolutely delicious food and being extremely friendly. read more

My wife and I celebrated our 8th anniversary recently and instead of going out to dinner at some stuffy restaurant we hired heirloom to cater our dinner. Chef Jacquie was phenomenal. We had a great time. She showed up on time, was accommodating. Really professional. Very friendly. At the end of everything she left the kitchen. Very clean and us. Very happy with the service. read more

To say that our event blew everyone away would be an understatement. Chef Lexa and Chef River were punctual, professional, pleasant, and wonderful to be around. Each dish was lovingly and expertly timed and crafted. The food was exquisite. I had a friend tell me that the meal was one of the top 5 she has had in her entire life (and I very much agree)! Chef Lexa was able to juggle the preparation time such that the appetizers showed up at a perfect pace. When we had to shift to buffet style due to lack of space at our tables she was able to switch that in real time with little to no effort. And the FOOD. Everything was just so good! Each dish was a perfect blend of California fresh and seasonal with a bit of fancy flair. Folks are still raving about the caviar and pea toasts. Thank you, thank you to Chef Lexa and Chef River, we want to hire you all from every event we ever host from here on out. read more

A lovely experience from end to end. We hired Heirloom Chef for a private dinner to celebrate my parent's 70th, and Chef Anna surpassed our expectations. In planning the event, Emily was communicative and dedicated to creating a customized vegetarian experience. Chef Anna and her warm personality were a welcome addition to our home, and the food was perfection. I look forward to hiring them for a future event. read more

We had the pleasure to have the Heirloom Kitchen for our micro wedding in Point Reyes (21 guests). Chef Victor and Chef Ashley exceeded our expectations with outstanding food that was super delicious, perfectly presented and on time! Victor and Ashely worked super professional and cleaned up everything so so well. All guests were soo delighted by this culinary experience. The set up worked flawless with owner Erika, who was very responsive and send very good instructions prior the event. We were even able to customize our menu. All in one it was super easy and professional. I highly recommend the Heirloom!!! read more

After researching caterers on Yelp we selected The Heirloom Chef for the consistently great ratings and the photos of their food and we were thrilled with the choice! The booking and menu selection with Chef Erika (owner) was really simple and quick and Chef Jeanelle and Chef Dan created and served a late winter dinner for my sister's birthday that every guest was thrilled with (especially the b'day girl). Their options are not plain or boring but full of flavor, sometimes a bit unusual, and always presented with flair. If you are throwing a party and in need of a top quality caterer, look no further. I have done all the research and calling around for you (you're so welcome!) and now you can just hit them up to see if they are available on your date and go from there. A wonderfully run business and GREAT food, which is the most important part of all. read more

@theheirloomchef wayyy exceeded our expectations, thanks to the creativity, fun, professionalism, and courtesies of Chef Antonio and Chef Anna. Un millón de gracias, @ant_worm and Anna. read more

We worked with Chef Dan for several months after our second child was born. Dan worked within our very specific dietary constraints (my husband and I have some food sensitivities) and managed to come up with a lot of very delicious menus that felt healthy and flavorful. Chef Dan was also very responsive to feedback. My (very picky eater) husband even expanded his palate while working with Chef Dan. We really enjoyed the healthy and amazing meals he prepared and would use this service again. read more

The chefs are wonderful and the food is fantastic. They really take into account any health or dietary restrictions and really work on making it as easy as possible. Really enjoyed having a chef come to the home and cook here and they clean and also you get to review the menu before hand. read more

The Heirloom Chef team is AMAZING! This is the second year that we have used them and we just ADORE the team! My husband is the cook in our family. For his birthday last year, I wanted to surprise him with something different instead of the usual going out to dinner. I found The Heirloom Chef on Yelp and thought I would give them a try. The concept was simple, they were basically our own PERSONAL chef for an evening... they would come to our place and cook this phenomenal meal for us. My husband enjoyed his gift last year so much, that this year, he put in his request to have them come over again! Chef Erika (from 2019) and Chef Emily (from 2020) were wonderful! The Heirloom Chef team is so easy to work with. There is a seasonal menu that you can select from or you can work with them to tweak it depending on your dietary requirements. The chef will buy the groceries, prep and make a full course meal from scratch -- appetizer, salad, main course and dessert! While our personal chef cooked, hubby and I sat around, listened to music and sipped wine while we waited to be served -- how decadent! This is the best part -- they did ALL the clean up... Wait?? What??!! Yup! They clean up, pack the dishwater, put away the leftovers in the fridge and broom sweep the kitchen -- they are like kitchen fairies with their magic wands! Hubby and I wholeheartedly recommend them! He is already hinting that they are on his birthday wish list again for next year! read more

We've now done two dinners with them and got Chef Victor both times and it was INCREDIBLE. Great food, very communicative team and flexible. Definitely will be repeating!!! read more

We discovered The Heirloom Chef at a friend's Christmas Party in Dec 2021. Our friend had The Heirloom Chef cater a full sit down dinner at her house and the food was simply, mind-blowingingly delicious. I then contacted the company for a weekly dinner delivery service and we have been getting food prepared by Chef Dan for a few months now. Every week, there is a new menu and he is so creative and collaborative with our family's requests and preferences. Besides the convenience of having our week's meals already in our fridge by Monday evening each week, our family gets to try dishes and flavors that we normally would not take care to prepare at home ourselves. We love The Heirloom Chef and would highly recommend to busy families who want to eat healthy but delicious food. read more

We had wonderful experience with Chef Anna who prepared food for our family every week for about a year. We loved her thoughtful and creative menu selections that were quite versatile! She took the utmost precautious when covid hit which made us feel safe continuing service when we needed it most. We're very grateful for Anna and will miss her dearly now that we are moving out of state. Working with the entire Heirloom team has been a great experience and I highly recommend their services! read more

I had a great experience with Heirloom Chef. Chefs Dan, Victor and Ashley all worked with great creativity to acommodate dietary restrictions I had to adopt due to a health condition. I was amazed at the delicious food they were able to create with just fish and plants (no meat, dairy, sugar or carbs). Their dependable support and the consistent, professionalism of owner Erika Minkowsky helped me through some extremely tough times. The money I spent for the service was completely worth it and helped me to regain my health. read more

We've worked with Heirloom Chef for a few years now, both event catering (many times) and weekly meal prep, and have zero complaints! We're currently working with Chef Sofiya and truly don't have enough good things to say about her! The entire Heirloom team is the epitome of professional, not only while in client's homes, but generally in the way that they communicate and operate. I've found other services to lack the ease that Heirloom provides with payment and general event / account management. Chef Erika (owner) has really gotten things down to a tee. We've had positive experiences with all of the chefs and find that they are timely, communicative, take feedback extremely well (which is big for our house with dietary restrictions & semi-picky eaters), and above all, are genuine great cooks. Sofiya, Erika, and our previous chefs have always gone above and beyond to meet our needs and do a great job of handling slightly more complex arrangements, coordinating with our family and an executive support team with ease. Heirloom is our go to and we recommend them to all of our friends. If you're on the fence about trying, please do! Thank as always Heirloom! :) read more

If you're looking for a private chef in the city for your next event, I HIGHLY recommend the heirloom chef. I recently hosted a team event, and they were so kind and accommodating. I utilized The Heirloom Chef; Chef Maggie and some of her helpers for around a year on a weekly basis and had a great experience. She was able to craft great menus around my strict anti-inflammatory diet without taking the "Joy" out of eating the meals. Maggie truly cares for the quality of the food, the health and quality of life of the people she prepares it for. read more

Chef Maggie has a great team! I have had the pleasure of working with most of the crew but this review is specifically for chef Emily. She is incredibly talented, funny and kind. She has been an absolute pleasure to work with as she's customized meals for me following a very restricted medical diet. She is great at taking a meal I love and adapting it so it is compliant with the diet and, most importantly, delicious. Her cooking skills are impressive and her knowledge about different cuisines is, as well. She's friendly and professional. Thanks, chef Maggie and chef Emily! I couldn't have asked for a better experience with a personal chef! read more

We really loved Maggie and Heirloom Chef! Maggie was available for a last-minute surprise birthday dinner from my brother a few weeks back. Communication with Maggie - even on a last minute basis - was seamless and fun. Coming up with the menu together was a breeze. Maggie arrived early and with fresh, beautiful flowers for our table - such a sweet touch! She was composed and professional, but very sweet. It was great to just leave the kitchen to her, and enjoy time in the backyard with cocktails, when I would normally be slaving over an oven. The results were delicious: Maggie prepared a beautiful meal - appetizers that we basically licked the bowl of, yummy salads, a main course that was to die for, and a beautiful cheesecake that she hand-selected for the birthday boy. My kitchen was spotless when she left. I totally loved the experience and wouldn't hesitate at all to hire Heirloom Chef again! read more

Chef Maggie came to our home and prepared an incredible four course dinner for my wife and I as we celebrated our wedding anniversary. Since we were unable to leave the house to celebrate this year, we thought a private chef would be something fun to try. Chef Maggie worked with me in advance on the menu and delivered an amazing dining experience. Having Chef Maggie in our home provided the flexibility we needed to manage our newborn while still getting a special high-end restaurant meal. We also learned a few things from her on the cooking side. I highly recommend Chef Maggie and cannot wait to bring her back! read more

I had oral surgery several months ago, and though I had intended to prepare my own food after the surgery, it became apparent to me rather quickly that I was in no shape to be handling knives or heat-producing appliances. Chef Maggie came to my apartment where I gave her the rundown of the ingredients I had on-hand, and also showed her the recipes I had planned for myself prior to surgery. She decided that I needed more protein for recovery, and we agreed on a few additional ingredients that she promptly ran out to retrieve. She listened to my concerns regarding flavor and nutrition, and was able to use the recipes I had planned as a base, then added her own touch to cater them to my needs and tastes. The soups were delicious! She gave me three options, as I had requested, and I was covered for the week. It was really nice not to have to figure out what I was going to eat each day, or do any preparation or shopping - I just opened the fridge and my meals were there! read more

Dinner last night was superb!! We were incredibly impressed with how well the food was prepared, the exquisite taste as well as how clean the kitchen was when we got home. I loved the salmon and broccoli and the mocha creme was delicious!! I absolutely love that vegetables and high fiber foods are part of nearly every meal. I never eat vegetables (generally because they don't usually taste good), but the fact that Chef Maggie is including them in all the main meals and makes them they taste wonderful is absolutely awesome!! read more

We used Chef Maggie for my husbands 40th birthday dinner and she exceeded our expectations, both with the quality of the food and service! For starters, we rented a home in Napa (where the kitchen and tools were unknown until the day before), luckily they had mostly everything she needed but Maggie was incredibly flexible with the situation. My goal was to have an intimate "adult only" meal, but given that we had 4 families (with 10 children total), I knew the logistics were going to be a challenge (we fed the kids separately and put on a movie during our meal). Maggie was not only extremely understanding (and not scared off when I mentioned children present!... we obviously kept the kids out of the kitchen), given that movie room was adjacent to the kitchen, but at one point during the meal, her assistant even walked a child out to us who needed help (we were dining al fresco). We had a 4-course meal, they not only helped us set the table, had beautiful plating, attentive service but most importantly, the food was beyond amazing! She truly delivered on providing a restaurant quality meal/experience within the comforts of a private home. To top it all off, she left the kitchen/space cleaner than it was before she arrived! We loved the experience and look forward to using Chef Maggie again! read more

Maggie is the best! We have her cook twice a month and she's always coming up with new, delicious meals that help me stay focused on health goals. Sugar free, gluten free, dairy, vegan...whatever your needs are, Maggie can meet them. We always have a soup, salad, and two other dishes. Usually proteins. I really really like not having to as I call it 'worry about feeding myself'. Usually keeps me from ordering in or eating out. Maggie has a great attitude, she's fun and creative. Totally recommend. read more

I gave Heirloom Chef a try. I asked for meals for 1 (even though I have a toddler) but they 'pushed' me into the family meal plan. I figured I would see what food volume was like so I went with it. Then, they added numerous random charges such as a trip , containers, special meal (vegetarian), etc. I thought I'd pay about $500/week but instead it was nearly $1000 due to the additional charges (and my containers didn't arrive before first deliver so never got them - and didn't continue past first delivery). And to top it all off, I had nearly half of the food leftover (of the recommended family plan) which went into the compost. I'm sure there are other much better chef services available... read more

Chef Anna has been cooking for me while I'm on the Candida diet. I have multiple food intolerances and can be a challenge to cook for. I look forward to her delivery every week. Thanks, Chef Anna! read more

We hired The Heirloom Chef / Chef Maggie for my boyfriend's annual birthday dinner and couldn't have been happier. This event has been held at same restaurant in Berkeley for the past several years with increasing disappointing results so I suggested hosting the event (I was going to cook but thought better of it). Maggie was great! We had a couple of consultations via phone and she was very responsive and we came up with a lovely menu for the evening. Maggie arrived to our home right on time; the food was fresh, the presentation beautiful and she was gracious to all of our guests! Maggie made the first event hosted in our new home truly memorable and we look forward to having her back for the event this year! read more

We hired Chef Erika, last minute, for my mom's 50th birthday dinner. My family has a ton of food allergies and my mom specifically has an allergy to all nuts, dairy (not goat or sheep dairy tho), sulfates, gluten (celiac) and eggs. While my sister and I are both celiac, I am allergic to goat/sheep dairy and soy. She had a task on her hands to keep track of everything. The food was very good and no complaints. However, there are few complaints that we do have. First off, the chef and her worker were 2 hours late than when she said she was going to arrive. She did not seem to use a cutting board for anything she was cutting with a knife and cut directly on the granite counter top, which we never do at our home, and put raw meat/fish on the counter and not seem to clean up after that. Which is concerning for food safety (no one got sick, so yay!). We typically clean up our oven right away and my mom is OCD, so when something spills in the oven, we wipe it down and clean it right away after cooling. However, there was something spilled when the Chef left. She also put away some dirty dishes, and overall just was not the cleanest. Besides the issues above, it was absolutely wonderful having a chef come over to cook dinner for my mom's birthday and we would recommend. read more

I hired Maggie for a special birthday dinner event for a small group of friends. Cliff Notes: It was a fantastic experience - highly, highly recommend her! A few more details for those curious. I found her web site and then read up on her right here on Yelp. I contacted her and we connected shortly thereafter. I went through the ideas I had for the dinner and she was very engaging. The birthday girl (my wife) loves tapas/small plates and Maggie came up with a variety of options to choose from. The presentation, service and most importantly, the food was superb! I look forward to the next event where we may be able to utilize her amazing service. read more

I can't believe I have a personal chef. I never thought I would get to a place in my life where I would have someone take over my kitchen and make meals that are conducive to my strict dietary restrictions, and also meet my expectations in flavor and creativity. Maggie has been amazing to work with on many levels. Her ability to accommodate my needs is impressive. From Paleo to low carb diet planning etc. she makes it all taste so good you never feel deprived! I am so particular about flavor and seasoning, that I was worried I would spend money having someone cook for me, and not be satisfied. That is not the case. My expectations were far exceeded. I cannot wait to have Maggie back on the regular! She makes my healthy lifestyle diet so easy to follow! read more
