We worked with Chef Dan for several months after our second child was born. Dan worked within our very specific dietary constraints (my husband and I have some food sensitivities) and managed to come up with a lot of very delicious menus that felt healthy and flavorful. For his birthday last year, I wanted to surprise him with something different instead of the usual going out to dinner. I found The Heirloom Chef on Yelp and thought I would give them a try. The concept was simple, they were basically our own PERSONAL chef for an evening... they would come to our place and cook this phenomenal meal for us. My husband enjoyed his gift last year so much, that this year, he put in his request to have them come over again! Chef Erika (from 2019) and Chef Emily (from 2020) were wonderful! The Heirloom Chef team is so easy to work with. There is a seasonal menu that you can select from or you can work with them to tweak it depending on your dietary requirements. The chef will buy the groceries, prep and make a full course meal from scratch -- appetizer, salad, main course and dessert! While our personal chef cooked, hubby and I sat around, listened to music and sipped wine while we waited to be served -- how decadent! This is the best part -- they did ALL the clean up... Wait?? What??!! Yup! They clean up, pack the dishwater, put away the leftovers in the fridge and broom sweep the kitchen -- they are like kitchen fairies with their magic wands! Our friend had The Heirloom Chef cater a full sit down dinner at her house and the food was simply, mind-blowingingly delicious. I then contacted the company for a weekly dinner delivery service and we have been getting food prepared by Chef Dan for a few months now. Every week, there is a new menu and he is so creative and collaborative with our family's requests and preferences. We've worked with Heirloom Chef for a few years now, both event catering (many times) and weekly meal prep, and have zero complaints! We're currently working with Chef Sofiya and truly don't have enough good things to say about her! The entire Heirloom team is the epitome of professional, not only while in client's homes, but generally in the way that they communicate and operate. I've found other services to lack the ease that Heirloom provides with payment and general event / account management. Chef Erika (owner) has really gotten things down to a tee. We've had positive experiences with all of the chefs and find that they are timely, communicative, take feedback extremely well (which is big for our house with dietary restrictions & semi-picky eaters), and above all, are genuine great cooks. We really loved Maggie and Heirloom Chef! Maggie was available for a last-minute surprise birthday dinner from my brother a few weeks back. Communication with Maggie - even on a last minute basis - was seamless and fun. Coming up with the menu together was a breeze. I had oral surgery several months ago, and though I had intended to prepare my own food after the surgery, it became apparent to me rather quickly that I was in no shape to be handling knives or heat-producing appliances. Chef Maggie came to my apartment where I gave her the rundown of the ingredients I had on-hand, and also showed her the recipes I had planned for myself prior to surgery. She decided that I needed more protein for recovery, and we agreed on a few additional ingredients that she promptly ran out to retrieve. She listened to my concerns regarding flavor and nutrition, and was able to use the recipes I had planned as a base, then added her own touch to cater them to my needs and tastes. The soups were delicious! She gave me three options, as I had requested, and I was covered for the week. We used Chef Maggie for my husbands 40th birthday dinner and she exceeded our expectations, both with the quality of the food and service! For starters, we rented a home in Napa (where the kitchen and tools were unknown until the day before), luckily they had mostly everything she needed but Maggie was incredibly flexible with the situation. My goal was to have an intimate "adult only" meal, but given that we had 4 families (with 10 children total), I knew the logistics were going to be a challenge (we fed the kids separately and put on a movie during our meal). Maggie was not only extremely understanding (and not scared off when I mentioned children present!... we obviously kept the kids out of the kitchen), given that movie room was adjacent to the kitchen, but at one point during the meal, her assistant even walked a child out to us who needed help (we were dining al fresco). We had a 4-course meal, they not only helped us set the table, had beautiful plating, attentive service but most importantly, the food was beyond amazing! She truly delivered on providing a restaurant quality meal/experience within the comforts of a private home. To top it all off, she left the kitchen/space cleaner than it was before she arrived! I gave Heirloom Chef a try. I asked for meals for 1 (even though I have a toddler) but they 'pushed' me into the family meal plan. I figured I would see what food volume was like so I went with it. Then, they added numerous random charges such as a trip , containers, special meal (vegetarian), etc. I thought I'd pay about $500/week but instead it was nearly $1000 due to the additional charges (and my containers didn't arrive before first deliver so never got them - and didn't continue past first delivery). And to top it all off, I had nearly half of the food leftover (of the recommended family plan) which went into the compost. I'm sure there are other much better chef services available... read more

We hired Chef Erika, last minute, for my mom's 50th birthday dinner. My family has a ton of food allergies and my mom specifically has an allergy to all nuts, dairy (not goat or sheep dairy tho), sulfates, gluten (celiac) and eggs. While my sister and I are both celiac, I am allergic to goat/sheep dairy and soy. She had a task on her hands to keep track of everything. The food was very good and no complaints. However, there are few complaints that we do have. First off, the chef and her worker were 2 hours late than when she said she was going to arrive. She did not seem to use a cutting board for anything she was cutting with a knife and cut directly on the granite counter top, which we never do at our home, and put raw meat/fish on the counter and not seem to clean up after that. Which is concerning for food safety (no one got sick, so yay!). We typically clean up our oven right away and my mom is OCD, so when something spills in the oven, we wipe it down and clean it right away after cooling. However, there was something spilled when the Chef left. She also put away some dirty dishes, and overall just was not the cleanest. Besides the issues above, it was absolutely wonderful having a chef come over to cook dinner for my mom's birthday and we would recommend. read more
