Natalie was recommended to us from another vendor in Kitchener Oakland and we could not have had a better experience with Natty Cakes for our wedding. Our goal was to do two cakes, one small "cutting cake" and 1-2 larger sheet cakes to have pre cut and plated for our guests for practicality purposes. Natalie was on board with this idea from the get-go, one of our favorite activities from our wedding planning was the day my wife and I came to Natalie's shop to do our cake tasting. We had such a hard time narrowing down our selection since everything we tasted was DELICIOUS. My wife and I have similar taste in that we love balanced desserts, we don't like super sugary or overly sweet desserts and quite frankly aren't the biggest cake eaters, but we devoured every last bite of the samples Natalie gave us. Our cutting cake was a Victoria sponge with raspberry preserves with a buttercream frosting that was out of this world. The sheet cake we wanted was actually a Mexican tres leches cake, Natalie informed us she had never had one before, but that she was on board to experiment and try to figure it out. Natalie texted us one day saying she thought her experiment had turned out well, but wanted to see our opinion. We happily obliged and headed back to Kitchener for round 2 of our tasting to try Natalie's take on a tres leches cake. She NAILED IT! Seriously, it was so good we almost didn't believe that she had never made one before. On our wedding day our guests were delighted to hear we were having tres leches and we received tons of compliments on the amazing cakes! To top it off, Natalie opts to use as many natural and local ingredients as she can (how cool is that??) and told us that it would probably be a bad idea to save our wedding topper in the freezer for a year. We ended up eating/passing our cutting cake out to our guests, and on our one year anniversary Natalie remade us a mini version of our cake (which was equally amazing). We were looking for a two tier wedding cake for 60 people with strict dietary restrictions (gluten free and lactose free). We saw on her instagram that she made a gluten free cake and also a lactose free cake for two separate occasion and immediately contacted her to see if she could do a gluten free and lactose free wedding cake. She quickly responded that she hadn't before but was incredibly excited to experiment. She worked with us to understand the flavors we wanted to try and how we wanted the cake to look. We sent her some cakes we liked on Pinterest and she made suggestions as to how she'd approach the design and the different types of tools and ingredients she's going to test with to get the result we're looking for that was still within our budget. It took 2-3 days via email to lock down the flavors we wanted to try and set up a cake tasting the following 2 weeks.
