Venus is a treasure and her cakes are magnificent. For our wedding, the most important thing for us was to have a cake that tasted at least as good as it looked. Our tasting was a blast, we got to sample a half dozen flavor combinations from Venus's wide assortment of bright and exotic offerings, while getting to know Venus, hearing fun stories, and learning that she grows her own passionfruit! Who doesn't want that in a baker? With multiple great flavors to choose from, we ultimately fell in love with a lemon + thyme cake with passionfruit curd and cream cheese buttercream. We had a very rough idea of what we wanted it to look like, a modern design with flecks of colors and rice paper flowers, and with just a vague description and a couple reference photos, Venus executed it perfectly. Venus is the sweetest! I actually found her on Yelp through Asian Pearl Fremont's page. I saw a picture of her desserts and knew I needed to book her for my wedding! La Vie Douce Design has a website that's really easy to use. They have pictures and menus of all the desserts and cakes they make and even make custom orders as well. We had a tasting appointment but found out we were double booked. Venus realized this and actually offered to drop off all the desserts to us at our home almost 30 miles away! We were glad we were able to enjoy all the desserts at home for the next couple of days and loved everything we tried! We ended up ordering 120 different treats from tartlettes to strawberry mouse and tiramisu verrines. There was a wedding cake design that I LOVED and Venus was able to replicate it exactly! I was so in love with the cake (and didn't realize how huge it was!) Thank you so much for your patience and kindness! We had the best wedding cake I've ever had at our wedding. It was really important to us that the wedding cake actually tasted good as well as looked good. Venus creates beautiful unique flavors, and really caters to Asian palettes. The cake tasting was so much fun; some of the best cupcakes I've ever had. We settled on vanilla sponge with Earl Grey butter cream and milk tea custard dollops. Our guests LOVED our cake, and many guests went back for second and third slices. OMG! The decorated cake and desserts were as cute as they can be. It was my granddaughter's birthday party and as usual, my daughter-in-law does parties first class. She said the desserts were priced very fairly, especially considering what I took to make them. The ladies from La Vie Douce Design delivered the desserts in a timely manner and set everything up. Being that it was a Woodland's theme, the desserts were placed on big chunks of wood with doilies. The 2 tier cake was delightful with the fondant animals. Panna Cotta was delicious! Just looking through the past cake and dessert arrangements done by Venus it was easy to see why she is the best at what she does. Offers a variety of dessert options and flavors. For our wedding we did macaroons, mini cupcakes, panna cotta, and a small wedding cake. I think that the price also fits the bill! We were able to rent out the dessert platters and stands (since I was not planning to purchase ones myself) and it was perfect to have that option. Venus makes the most delicious desserts! Our wedding planner had recommended her when we had mentioned we were looking for Asian-inspired flavors. We ended up ordering a small 20 serving cake just for decoration/ cake cutting, and a spread of macarons, verrines, and panna cotta as a dessert buffet. I'd say that communication was hit or miss as we tried to also order desserts for my bridal shower, but she never responded to that request. Our wedding planner introduced us to Venus. And boy, Venus is so popular. I'm so glad we reached out to her months in advance. Even though she makes cakes/desserts for multiple weddings per week, she knows when she has too much on her plate because she wants to make sure each couple/ party is well taken care of. I love how her style is less sweet (for all my Asian family members) and how detailed she is with her work. We initially met at her studio to pick up our cake and dessert tasting boxes. I thought it would be a 5-minute appointment, but my husband and I had a great talk with Venus. She is very knowledgeable, you can ask her about the different clients she has had and how she tailored it. She also knows a lot about the different venues and even brought up little details to consider on our wedding day that never crossed our minds. She did mention that she might be cutting back on the number of clients so my biggest advice is to book her ASAP. Her cake/desserts were a big hit at our wedding! I highly recommend! read more

We found Venus on Yelp and trusted her with our wedding cake and desserts. After some initial meeting and tastings, Venus was able to turn my dream cake into reality. I wanted a very design forward cake that had clean lines and a monochromatic look. With a few photos she was able to create my perfect cake, down to the placement of the flowers. Not to mention, all of her flavors are AMAZING. we went with an earl grey tea cake with mango Buttercream. Never have I had such a light and flavorful buttercream. It was almost like a mango mousse. There were also bits of tea, flecked in the cake to amplify the tea flavor -- delicious. She makes all of her flavors by hand using real ingredients, no artificial flavors, so everything comes out delicious and fresh. She also made a few desserts for us: Mango Coco-Cotta, and a couple specialty macarons. We asked her to make blueberry green tea and peach black tea macarons, inspired by the drinks we got on out first date. Everyone said the desserts and cake were the best part of their meal. The entire dessert table was wiped out in minutes. Venus is very personable and knowledgable. She was also very punctual and professional. When it comes down to it, taste is key and we honestly have never had flavors as true and powerful as she was able to infuse into her desserts. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Venus was the first dessert sample I tried that I truly loved! My husband and I had been searching for samples from a few different places for at least a month before we found Venus, and so far all the desserts I'd tried elsewhere were very lacking in taste and quality. As a HUGE dessert person, I knew my wedding had to have top tier desserts. And though a little pricier than we would've normally gone with, both my husband and I loved ALL the samples she provided for our cake tasting and her prices were worth the quality of the desserts. Our guests loved the cake and desserts she provided, so I'm very glad we went with her business! The cake was also beautiful, and we were so grateful to have her work with us to find the right size for our wedding size and budget. Communication was a little slow at the beginning, which is to be expected from small and busy businesses, so I would recommend contacting Venus early to get everything in order. But she made sure to get in touch with us on time to finalize things before the wedding and was accommodating of some of our changes with the quantity we needed. We'll definitely be ordering from her again (especially because I didn't get to try the nutella cake again after our wedding and I'm VERY sad about that) and I look forward to the other desserts we get to try from her! My first experience was taking the cake baking class with Venus, loved her enthusiasm and passion about baking, then my experience went from regular bday cake orders to asking her to design my wedding dessert table. Oh my, all the items on the wedding dessert table were gone under 5 mins (no kidding!) All the guests were asking me which bakery were the desserts from and praising they taste as good as they look! I don't know why it took me so long to order desserts from this place, and I'm sorry that I didn't do it sooner! What comes out of the La Vie Douce Design kitchen is MAGIC!!! :) My experience with Venus was wonderful and she definitely delivered on her deliciously famous macarons! I needed some for my sister's bridal shower and I figured that I would try my luck with her and I'm glad I did. Not only did she make delicious treats that all of the guests at the bridal shower were raving about, but she was also helpful in answering my questions and giving me advice on what I should order and how much to order to make the event enjoyable ...and also to go with the New Orleans/Mardi Gras color theme. The pricing is also reasonable, so that's a plus because you get a bang for your buck. If you want delicious desserts and fantastic service, I recommend calling Venus up now. Like right now. I can't stop talking about how great the macarons are and I kind of want to make up a fake event just so I can order more of those things. They're like little pillows of heaven. read more

I was recommended La Vie Douce by my wedding planner to find some elegant custom macarons for my engagement party. Venus was very helpful in giving me the options and we ended up ordering 2 dozen metallic and 1 dozen navy blue, custom with painted stars for $26 each. When we picked them up, there were several issues. The silver macarons had silver dust falling off of them (they had not been shaken off) and completely coated our fingers while eating - not okay for a party with guests in cocktail attire. The gold macarons did not have this issue so the explanation we received about the falloff being due to the metallic color was confusing to me as this issue did not occur with the gold macarons. Some of the silver macarons were also not set properly and were completely off center (see pictures). The blue with the painted stars simply looked like a child had drawn on them, and not well. Our guests even made similar remarks. We actually ended up turning those upside down so guests wouldn't be able to see them so easily. The coffee macaron tasted good, but the raspberry somehow tasted like strawberry cream cheese and we weren't super impressed with the Meyer lemon either. Their website showed some cute, custom animal shaped macarons and I had flagged them for future use for my baby shower if I liked their work, but after my experience with Venus, I will be finding another company. When I expressed my concerns, Venus discounted the macarons to $22 a piece and while I appreciate her doing something to fix the problem, it was still completely overpriced and unprofessional for the amount we payed. In my opinion, we should not have been charged for the blue macarons at all. She told me that she had thought we wanted a more childlike, storybook kind of style for the custom macarons, but we were never asked what style we wanted and it was our engagement party, not a child's birthday. She stated that the responsibility was "half hers" and as a customer who received sub-par work, I did not appreciate the implication that I was half responsible for the sloppy product I received. I do not make macarons and had assumed that a reputable vendor would produce professional quality work in all aspects from communication to execution. I would not expect misshapen, sloppy stars and off center macarons for a childlike interpretation either - the fact is that it was not just a misunderstanding of what style I wanted, it was poor quality, unprofessional work and the taste was not great either. I would have been happy to receive well executed hand drawn stars but that is not the product I was given. I will not be ordering from here again and have advised my wedding planner to take them off of their list of recommended vendors. UPDATE: I had previously mistyped the cost as being $36 discounted to $32, I have corrected it to reflect the correct price as $26 discounted to $22 read more

We had La Vie Douce do the bulk of our desserts for our wedding dessert table. So much of our wedding focused on being non-traditional, but we knew that food was really important to us. We've both spent many years in the restaurant and bar industries, so we focused a lot on the food, bar, and entertainment of our wedding day. Venus is so sweet, just like the desserts. She set up a tasting box for us, worked with us the whole process on what could be done and which ideas were better for our dessert table vision. And there is so much cool variety in her catalogue - all of it so beautifully hand crafted and decorated. And she does a great job providing traditional options and specialty flavors you won't find anywhere else, especially those that bring in traditional east Asian elements. The highlight, though, and a big part of why we chose Venus in the first place - she made macarons in the shape of Totoro! My Neighbor Totoro was a big piece of childhood for both the bride and groom, and being able to surprise our guests with these adorable, delicious treats meant the world to us. read more

This past Saturday August 5th I had ordered two shooters one was lychee and the other one was coconut mango Sago a dozen of mini eclair a dozen of duck macaroons and a dozen of baby blue macaroon and it was all incredible. Three words describe the overwhelming tide of joy as I bit into my first macaron from La Vie Douce: OH. MY. GOD. I was extremely fortunate enough to have a great friend purchase a dozen of macarons for my birthday. Let me preface this review that I do consider myself a bit of a macaron fiend; I adore macarons and will go to great lengths to try them from every place possible. I've had them in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco, New York (which were allegedly flown in fresh from Paris). I've eaten every flavor from a macaron shop if I like them. I will drop a ludicrous amount of money for a dozen macarons. As such, I like to think that I can separate the tasty macarons from the terrible. I've become wary of trying new macarons since I'm convinced only a few places can make them right. But WOW, these macarons - they just became my new favorite. I had a box of half a dozen of matcha macarons and half a dozen of rose macarons. I killed it all by myself within a few days. The macaron itself is rather large, especially compared to other places. Venus somehow got the texture of such a large macaron down pat - the cookie was crispy and chewy, and the gamache/buttercream bursted with such flavor with every bite! The matcha flavor was strong and it was as if I was eating green tea in macaron form. I was in heaven. As for the rose macaron: I don't like rose flavored things, but boy, has Venus changed my mind. The macaron was very delicious and the rose flavor was sweet but not overly so. There was even a gummy in the center, which meshed well with the macaron. After I tried these two flavors, I have a very strong urge to purchase a dozen of several other flavors all for myself. The prices by the dozen are very reasonable - I think they compute out to be between $1.50 - $2.00 per macaron! An EXTREMELY reasonable price for the quality and freshness you get from these macarons. This just might be my new favorite macaron place. I've had the pleasure of sampling many of their desserts: cakes, macaroons, verrines, panna cotta, etc. Everything is always delicious, moist and never over-sweet. Recently, I ordered two dozen macaroons from them: one dozen chocolate and another dozen earl grey. I picked them up and was given many detailed instructions on how to store and eat them appropriately ("Treat them like a small baby! Macaroons are fragile!"). I shared them with my coworkers and I knew that I had turned at least two of them over to the dark side. Last I had heard, they were discussing how much they wanted to order! The chocolate macaroon isn't over-sweet and the earl grey is made with crushed tea leaves, giving it a genuine tea taste. The macaroons were light, flaky and practically melted in your mouth. Absolutely amazing and my mouth is watering just sitting here and thinking about them. Order from La Vie Douce Design and you won't be disappointed! During our wedding process we went through four cake vendors. My wife and I first decided on using a prefer vendor of our venue, but it seems like the vendor we first contracted with was uninterested and a bit rude; so, we decided to end the contract. When we met with Venus at our tasting, we both felt welcome. After taking a few bites of the different flavors of the cake, we were both sold. Honestly neither of us enjoy sweet, but the flavors was so delicious that we both wanted to take second bites. During the wedding, we did notice imperfection on our cake as it was a bit shorter than what we discussed it, but Venus was very honest and told our event coordinator that she is going to refund part of the contract fee. We also order lots of little sweets and dessert items from Venus, but my wife and I never got it taste as it was all gone when guest was allowed to get to it. From what we heard from the guests, both the cake and the little sweet/dessert items was the best they have ever tasted at a wedding. We would totally hire Venus again when I need another special cake or sweet for our next event. read more

I ordered two birthday fondant cakes for my sons' birthday from La Vie Douce Design. Both cakes were gorgeous! Not only did the cakes look cute, they were delicious. The first one was Cars theme and my sons were all over the McQueen and Mater. The cars were made with rice crispy inside and they looked just like the real McQueen and Mater. Even the guests were crazy over the cake and they were nonstop taking pictures. I think La Vie Douce Design makes the best macaroons. I have not tried any macaroons that are as good as the ones they make. It's big, looks very nice, and has a lot of varieties... but most importantly, it tastes darn good. The price is considered cheap when you look at the size of the macaroon comparing to those outside the stores. I highly recommend people to order desserts from them.
