I picked up cupcakes from Cupcakin' Bake Shop for my wife's birthday, and they were absolutely amazing. I got the Cookies n Cream, Dirty South, Lemon Cream Pie, and Key Lime Pie, and I was able to try each one, every single flavor was delicious. These are probably the best cupcakes I've ever had. They were incredibly moist, rich, and full of flavor, not overly sweet, and clearly made with care. Each cupcake stood out in its own way, and none of them disappointed. I'd definitely be back and highly recommend this place if you're looking for top-tier cupcakes.
This is why people stop buying their cupcakes out and choose to make stuff at home. This place really knows how to disappoint! And I find it amazing because a substandard shop around the corner is selling crap and while these people have a much better product with much more flavor, they never seem to have it in stock. I go in and I see that they have cupcakes and I'm looking for a gluten-free cupcake. Whatever the flavor they have if it's gluten-free, I will take it. I have absolutely no idea why they don't have these cupcakes. A couple of times I showed up close to closing and they didn't have the cupcakes and I understand that you know they may have sold out. But I've been there 10 minutes after opening, a half hour after opening, an hour or two after opening and no cupcakes. I have been there in the middle of the day and no cupcakes! The people do have plenty of excuses. There is the time I went there and now I do not have cupcakes. I was ignored the whole time I was waiting. There was a time I went there and the person who was supposed to be working was in the bathroom probably taking the dump because there's a sign on the door saying that they were in the restroom. I waited longer than I should have for that to find out there were no gluten-free cupcakes. This was 1/2 hour into their shift and when I went in there, they already did not have any gluten-free cupcakes. Here's the problem, don't advertise if you have something if you don't have it on a regular basis. You go to the website they show you the muffins there's always a gluten-free flavor. The last four times I've been there they have not had gluten-free cupcakes. I don't know why. I came by in the morning to get some cupcakes and they didn't have them. And if they run out of cupcakes that early that means they're not making enough. But clearly they do not care and now I no longer care. This place is nice and clean and it has a great ambience, and they have a lot of cute things to buy. But I did not come by for any of that stuff. I came by for a gluten-free cupcake and on that small ass they didn't even bother to have any. Today, I was told that they may have a day old cupcake in the back. Of course they didn't have one because that makes no sense. They had all the old stuff out waiting and for some reason, I'm supposed to think that their day old sitting in the back. I do not know why these people do not have enough product, I really don't, but I'm done I'm making my cupcakes at home.!!! Normally, I came by here once or twice a month for a cupcake when I was in the area. Now all I've gotten on the times I've been here is disappointment. Going from Richmond to Berkeley for that level of disappointment is not worth my time. It is not worth yours either.
When I get a sweet tooth, I like to stop by here every once in a while,the cupcakes are good. The staff are always friendly. I was surprised to see they had oatmeal raisin cookies.
Although it's a cupcake bakery, the underdog is their cookies!!! It was huge and under $3! I regret not getting more. They only had two flavors: chocolate chip (though it was more like sea salt chocolate) and oatmeal raisin. I just got the chocolate chip and wish I got the other one. I like how they have mini cupcakes and regular size cupcakes. Not sure how often (if at all) their flavors change but a good selection of classics like red velvet and vanilla. They also had a vegan chocolate banana option. I would drive all the way to Berkeley just for the cookies. Don't sleep on them.
This bakery makes the bomb mini cupcakes. We enjoyed all of these as our dessert for a birthday dinner party. I have to say, without a doubt, it was a huge success. Everyone could not stop talking about how moist and delicious every beautiful little cupcake was a delicious adventure ooooh picking out the next flavor trying one little one and then trying another little one while there was a whole Lotta love for a lot of little cupcakes. Service was easy, and the staff was great, but those cupcakes OMG I can't take it LOL, well, yes, I could eat some more. Lmbo, it is the perfect treat, and the best part is they're small enough that you want to keep trying different flavors, when you're all done, I can tell you without fear. LOVE the cupcakes here! Whenever I need birthday cakes, I will get these cupcakes-no need to slice and deal with plates! Plus, we get a variety so everyone can taste different flavors. Our household there is a divide between chocolate and vanilla cake! Mini cupcakes are the best-they look like the standard cupcakes. Mini=less calories, right???!!!
I always love Cupcakin'. I particularly like this location because this part of Shattuck is less chaotic than Telegraph up by Cal. They also have a small parking lot exclusively for customers which I just found out after my umpteenth visit. LOL! I purchased the Crème Brûlée cupcake for a friend who reviewed the crème brûlée topping as "not too sweet" and noted that the sugar still had a bit of crisp to it. The frosting on the Lemon Blackberry cupcake is sooooo delicious, but I was disappointed but the innards due to an absence of any blackberry filling. And then when I got to the BOTTOM of the cupcake, I found a flattened blackberry in the center. I suppose they get an A for effort on that one... As for the Key Lime Pie and Vanilla Salted Caramel cupcakes, I've had them multiple times before and they're so tasty. They're really good at what they do here. Unfortunately, if you don't get there early, you won't get to grab any of the limited/exclusive flavors they sometimes have; I missed out on the latest Banana Pudding cupcake and it still keeps me up at night... Ultimately, I don't have the heart to rate any less than 5 stars. Their cupcakes are so delicious, soft, and moist every time. One of my dessert pet peeves is dry cake--I can't stand a dry or underdressed cake. Cupcakin' makes sure I don't have to suffer. Even when they're sold out of my favorites, I'm leaving with something!
For the past 30 years, I have apparently been training for a very specific title: cupcake connoisseur. I have eaten cupcakes at birthdays, bakeries, weddings, office parties, and during many completely justifiable "I deserve a cupcake today" moments. After three decades of very serious and dedicated research, I can confidently say that the cupcakes at Cupcakin' are the best I have ever had. First, the texture is perfect. They are incredibly moist without being heavy, which is a balance that many cupcakes try to achieve but rarely do. Every bite tastes fresh, soft, and somehow stays just as good from the first bite to the last. The flavors are also fantastic. Cupcakin' clearly understands that cupcakes should be fun. The flavors are unique, creative, and thoughtfully put together instead of just being overly sweet. Each one feels like it was designed to actually taste interesting. And the display is a solid 10 out of 10. Walking up to the case feels like looking at a little gallery of edible art. The cupcakes look just as impressive as they taste. After 30 years of cupcake "research," I can confidently say Cupcakin' has set the bar very high. If you like cupcakes even a little bit, this place is absolutely worth it.
The cupcakes are so good. I've had some normal size and recently got a few of the minis and they are all great. They're moist and also look appetizing.
Really good cupcakes with interesting flavours/mash ups, like key lime pie. The "2 day olds" are a great value (2.25$) if you don't mind - I couldn't tell the difference, to be honest. I wish we had one in NY!
Tasty desserts with quick service! There are always a lot of options and everything. have had as been super moist and flavorful. Salted caramel chocolate and bourbon passion fruit are some of my go to flavors. It's a bit pricey for cupcakes, so that why I give it a 4/5. For people interested in TooGoodToGo, do not come here. The cupcakes tasted like they were a week old. So dry and the frosting was hard as a rock. Stick to just buying from the store itself!!

A perfect sweet treat! They have so many fun and unique flavors to try, along with some classics. They also have mini cupcakes if you want to get smaller portions to try more flavors. Not dry at all, perfect frosting to cake ratio, and super friendly workers! This place is so absolutely delicious that it is dangerous! read more

Great food/baked goods, great customer service, in a quaint ambiance is how I can describe my favorite cupcake bakery! I walked in as soon as they opened, and secured my favorite flavors, and a new one. First, the Dubai Chocolate cupcake is prepared perfectly. The pistachio cream inside of a rich chocolate cupcake, with a combination of pistachio and chocolate on top with candied pistachios to finish it off. Every bite is heavenly! I also tried the Lemon Blackberry cupcake, which is a flavor of the month. I love new and exciting flavors, this one was pretty good. I would've preferred a lemon blueberry (which I would love to see on the menu regularly) but this was good nonetheless. Another favorite is the Chocolate Salted Caramel cupcake. The salted caramel is well pronounced and compliments the light, airy chocolate cupcake. I highly recommend what I believe is the "BEST CUPCAKES IN AMERICA"!! read more

As much as I am a fan of Cupcakin, today was not a very pleasant one. I stopped by to get cupcakes and there was a sign posted on the door, locked door by the way. That they were sold out--yo there were still cupcakes on display. I attempted to make a phone call and much to my disgust, there was an outgoing voice message. Was quite disappointed that a human being could not be bothered to pick it up. When I walked by the door again, the sign said, sold out closed early. They were closing two hours before the official closing time. Guess they were short staffed. Next time, if you're closing early, could you please put the cupcakes that are on display away? You were not sold out. Very deceptive of you all. Will try again another time, and I hope they will be open as stated on their business hours. read more

Fantastic Cupcakes! I had the mini strawberry and mini key lime pie. The frosting was the highlight of the cupcakes for me as well as the mini crust for the key lime pie cupcake. I really need to try the vanilla as it sounds amazing! As for the service, I had it catered so I did not interact much with the store itself this time, however, it was packaged incredibly neatly and well, so it was a plus for me! However, it's best to eat it quick as the frosting falls off often times. I definitely need to go to one of the stores in Berkeley to try it out for certain as they have great deals from yesterday's bakes and I heard that there's a great selection. read more

***Woman-owned, minority owned bake shop in Berkeley (opened 2014)*** I mean I love this little shop. Clean, spacious, merch/retail to purchase and decadent cupcakes. I hate stale, hard feeling cupcakes but these are moist and fluffy. Interestingly the flavors and consistency are similar to Love at First Bite located in the gourmet ghetto, Berkeley but not owned by the same group. I came in for a Too Good To Go order and it was such a cute lil bakery , they handed me two boxes, one large and one smaller . I asked her do I choose she said they both were mine and I couldn't believe it ! It was the best experience so far and well worth over the $6 I spent. The cupcakes taste so fresh and delightful. I needed a variety of cupcakes for my daughter's birthday. Something simple for my little one and a few with different flavors for everyone else. After searching around I decided on Cupcakin' Bake Shop and was on the hunt on which location to visit during my short lunch break. Fortunately, this location has easy street parking at 10 (when they open) and I was able to run in, order, and run out. The place is clean with a TON of variety. I wanted to order the mini cupcakes for extra variety but opted on getting regular sized ones since they didn't have a small box for the mini cupcakes. For my order of 6 mini cupcakes they'd be placed in a regular box without the cupcake holders and I didn't want to risk ruining them. The service was nice and they had a few stationary items for parties located in the corner - however, limited. The cashier said that they expect a delivery of more birthday sparklers in the near future since they were out of the number 4. The cupcakes were delicious, moist, and full of flavor. Not overwhelmingly sweet and the texture was perfect. It really made my little girl's night. read more

My first time going to the actual shop and let me tell you It's Freaking Amazing!!!!! Love the decorative style. Cool vibe , service was on point . I spent $$ but it was worth it. This location is the original place but they're located in Oakland and Walnut Creek. I will be back and can't wait til the next time. Haven't been here in a while so after a rough day I decided get a treat. Came in and was greeted right away by the young lady behind the counter. The store is nicely decorated. Everything looked so good I didn't know what you were pick. I decided to try the chocolate chip cookie it was very good. I had the key lime mini cupcake for the first time. It was so delicious. I regret not buying a full sized one or two. I also tried the salted caramel mini it was also very good I should have gone regular size on that too. I tried a bite of the carrot it was just as good as I remembered. I will definitely be back for more full sized cupcakes. read more
