Main cake and groom's cake for a Victorian Goth wedding.

Our wedding occurred 2 days ago. We asked Natalia to make a 3 tiered gluten free vanilla lemon lavender cake as our main cake and a chocolate Andes mint cake for the groom's cake. We had approximately 106 guests at our wedding. Natalia is very professional and accommodating to our unusual cake requests. These cakes were for a Victorian Gothic themed wedding. After the wedding several guests told me both cakes were delicious. One guest told me it was the best cake she ever tasted. I totally agree with her. Not only did these cakes surpass our expectations on taste, but, also were decorated beautifully. We had gone to 3 cake tastings before meeting with Natalia. We had even gone to the most highly rated San Francisco cake makers on Yelp. They did not even come close to how delicious these cakes were. I am so happy we chose Barr Necessities. Thanks Natalia!

I LOVE THIS STORE SO MUCH!!!…read more It's so lovingly & carefully curated with yummy items. I come in every week or so to check out new items. Great selection of gourmet goodies-- I regular go in for snacks, cooking sauces from around the world, ice cream, canned drinks, honey & condiments. Appreciate they have plenty of vegan options. They also have a good selection of wines. The owners & staff are super friendly. They love to chat & answer any questions you have. It's a small but mighty space. Very clean & cheerful (not sure how else to describe it? I always smile when I enter!) SHOP LOCAL AND SUPPORT OUR WONDERFUL SMALL BUSINESSES

Starting with an arresting blow-up of Italian movie star Monica Vitti behind the checkout, it's a visually pleasing emporium because it's not overcrowded with idiosyncratic products. The wine collection is particularly interesting with labels unknown to me. I've been tempted by the delectables in the Grab & Go section, but I've demurred for the sake of discretion. In fact, having almost no knowledge of any of these products, I only recently bought something here because I want to support them. I got a box of Rooibos tea and a jar of Hawaiian masala (Photo 10). I look forward to buying more in the future, though one thought I had was that this store would benefit from samples. On a previous visit, there was a bakery pop-up in front (Photo 8), and I think more of that activity could encourage more in-store traffic. It'll be interesting to see how this business evolves. This is my second most favorite farmers market. My most favorite farmers market is the Larkspur…read moreFarmers market which has more organic vegetables and fruit. The reason I come to this one more often is because it's closer to me in the East Bay. They don't have a lot of organic produce and the prices for all the produce is a bit high for what it is. There's a lot of different pastry booths and there's a Semi Freddy's Cafe close by. The Frog Hollow farm has great fruit and pretty good simple pastries. They also offer their fruit preserves on a discount that is much cheaper than in stores or online. Their apricot preserves is one of their best ones and has the least amount of sugar. I come here quite often to get lunch on the weekends. There's also a really nice rotisserie chicken truck that makes amazing rotisserie chicken for about $17 and they also have rotisserie duck and rotisserie pork. They have a lot of roasted vegetables that can come with their rotisserie meat but unfortunately, all their potatoes and vegetables are covered with animal grease so it is not for people watching their cholesterol. It's easy to pick up a whole rotisserie chicken for a lovely Sunday meal and have leftovers for work for a few days. It's better than any rotisserie chicken from the supermarket but will cost about twice as much. However, you get to see them roast your chicken so you know it's very fresh and the skin is crisp.

I bought some farm fresh eggs that were absolutely delicious and the pastries here ... so many varieties and they have music here as well. This is definitely a place to experience.!!!

Most recently I finally was able to give them a try. So glad we did! We came around lunch time and sat at a booth. There were other worker bees grabbing a quick lunch. The service was quick, efficient and friendly, and we ordered the French onion soup to start, and split the fried chicken sandwich and Philly cheesesteak sandwich. The sandwiches come with a side, so one plate we did fries with a house-made aioli and the other plate, their quinoa kale salad. Delicious. Such hearty portions! The bread is so fresh, the meat juicy and ample, and flavors just right. We also ordered beer on tap, shoutout to Oakland United, and tried their house-made hot sauce that they also sell by the bottle. Would love to come back to try brunch here too. I also saw a patron ordering the quinoa kale salad with fried chicken, and yes, that's the vibe! Pricing is fair for the quality and quantity, and street parking available (although the restaurant is located at the bottom of Solano where it tends to be a bit more busy). Women-owned biz, and they also were on Check Please! Bay Area.
